We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

OP posts:

PregnantPenguin · 19/05/2008 12:04

Bu99er it Ernest - you're giving him another child - what more does the man want?

ErnestTheBavarian · 19/05/2008 12:06

exactly. pitty it didn't come today. then problem solved. sat here with ice cubes wrapped in dish cloth pressed to my belly wondering wtf I'm going to do groan.

PregnantPenguin · 19/05/2008 12:09

Seriously, how about booking a babysitter and a night in a good hotel for the two of you? Even if it is for 6 months time....you're both going to need it! And you can book it all online today?

systemsaddict · 19/05/2008 12:11

Absolutely agree with PP, plus everything you've done in the past few weeks to get the family moved while heavily pregnant should count for a lot too!! You've done amazing things recently Ernest and if your dh fixates on a present over all that he needs a reality check. If your rash was stress-related it wouldn't be a surprise after everything you've dealt with recently. (have you tried an oats bath by the way? this works wonders on itching - put oats in a sock, run a coolish bath over the sock, the milky oat water is very soothing.)

Don't know what your budget is for a present, but one year we got my Dad a row of vines in a vineyard from Wineshare www.wineshare.co.uk/, he loved it and Mum and Dad used it as excuses for trips to France, and you get to buy your own wines ... and you could do it online so no more dashing about!

needahand · 19/05/2008 12:16

Oh my god, so much drama happening over the weekend. I hope you are all ok.

ernest did the hospital tell you the results about your rash?

ErnestTheBavarian · 19/05/2008 12:17

I'll look into that, ta. something 'virtual' would be good. hotel would be lovely, but I don't know anybody here, and no baby sitter or anything. don't even know the names of shops or where they are - had tghought of something bike related but can't find a bike shop and dunno what the names of sports shops are, or where to find one close by. Am starting to feel bloody resentful about it. I was ok he didn't get me pressie ( tho to be fair he had just got me an iPhone and he did get me a posh box of choccies) but I wouldn've got him eh sat nav, if he didn't just bloody go out and buy i for himself. Am going to be bad mother and leave ds3 to watch tv or something and go to be before I cry.

aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 12:23

online bike shop heaven for guys - wiggle.co.uk. I got DH vouchers from there for his birthday and he was so happy. I think they'll deliver to you too!!!!

aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 12:24

oh - and please call the doctor about your rash! I'm worried about you!

PearTart · 19/05/2008 12:39

Poor you Ernest - you've got a lot on your plate What with rash and all. See if you can get something off internet and leave it at that. My fave ideas- stunt-kite/ DInghy or windsurfing lesson/ cricket match ticket.

To all the lovely mums-to-be with DH/ DP bellyaches- thanks for support, we'll get through this (with clear instructions PP! )

SA- also asking baby2 to arrive in a neat 4-hour window when DD1 is in nursery- so that'll be on a Wed or Fri between 8.30 and 12 then...
Perhaps I can use Rolf's logic of not getting bag ready until then...

Essie pants v useful-at least DH can't complain that he buys them himself!

Thanks for Creme egg DQ. V nice indeed and can eat it all myself now DD having a nap. Also at stupid cyclist. Doesn't help those of us that aren't so nippy on a bike.

UDC how's your DS?

aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 12:48

needahand - I feel the same way as you to about the GBS - it may be overkill but once we know about it, it's hard not to play it safe. And because the NHS policies on GBS seem very inconsistent, I feel that I need to be on the safe side...

katyjo · 19/05/2008 12:59

Hi everyone

Still here! I have decided it must all be in my head as still nothing happening, but only 10 days until due date so it can't be too long now anyway.

udc it's my 2nd ds is 2, so I should really know what to look for, but last time I was induced as waters had broken so I don't know what early labour is like.

Essie if you think the baby is moving less and you are worried phone the hospital, that's what they are there for and they won't have a go at you at all.

gf sorry the ecv was painful, and didn't manage to turn little one fingers crossed for acupunture and very exciting about show and dilation.

ernest really sorry your suffering, I have an itchy belly too but just due to stretching and stretch marks .

Really hoping for some news from g43 makecakes and gemma hope you ladies are all ok.

sophiewd · 19/05/2008 12:59

Ernest - you need to go back to a Dcotor.

DQ - hope you are not too shaky, that is apalling.

Well to add to the drama, have just been to My mothers with DD to drop of some drying and to see her and just as we were about to leave two police cars turned up, seems that DD had managed to press one of th panic buttons that link them to the police station

bitofadramaqueen · 19/05/2008 13:08

Thanks for support everyone!

Ernest - it's kind of cheating, but I'd be tempted to tell your DH that you were planning on buying satnav, but he went out and bought it leaving you with no time to come up with something else and write him an IOU for a present of his choice. You've far too much to deal with today without the stress of that. You can always wrap the IOU with a bottle of beer/box of chocs or something so that he has something to open.

OMG - the LO is sooooooo wriggly today. Desperately need some peace so I can get on with work . (would only be complaining if it was too quiet).

Sophie is it bad of me to LOL at your DDs escapade?

Rolf · 19/05/2008 13:31

My reflexology was lovely - I feel much better now. The therapist doesn't think I have long to go at all . Isn't it the case that women whose husbands are away in the army etc somehow hold off going into labour until their DHs are home? I'm sure someone in that situation told me that the midwives at her military hospital had seen that a lot. Anyway, I'm hoping it applies to doulas and in-laws too. Will imagine them all in flak jackets...

I think I've been getting fretful at all the things I need to get done when all I really want/need to do is focus on the last stage of pregnancy and get nice and relaxed. So, Ernest, I really do feel for you as you've had no chance to do that at all.

My DH likes book downloads from Audible. Don't know if that's your DH's cup of tea. He listens to them on his IPod with those fancy-schmancy headphones that cut out external noise. His best present ever was the year I bought myself lovely new underwear etc etc (I've just deleted what I initially typed!) . But if I tried that now I expect he would burst into tears and run screaming into the night...

Hope everyone is ok. Very shocked at the horrible cyclist.

sophiewd · 19/05/2008 13:45

ipod
weather station

sophiewd · 19/05/2008 13:46

laugh away DQ, we all did and as my Mum said at least they can find us

aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 13:49

ohh- my DH has a weather station in the back garden and loves it. He's always checking the weather and letting me know what's happening. sophie's got a great idea...

libralady · 19/05/2008 14:45

Oh my god Rolf! I've been reading your antics with the garlic pessary

DH just phoned so I mentioned the problem one of the 'girls' had had and he suggested putting a french stick up there for some garlic bread - Ha ha.

Right, back to catch up with the rest.

Upsidedowncake · 19/05/2008 15:10

O my goodness, you ladies have been very chatty.

Poor Ernest, I'm sure he will understand about the fact that you aren't quite in the state right now and he went and stole your blooming present idea! But online stuff sounds good too.

Sophie, ejoyed your DD story. SOunds the sort of thing that DS would do!

Peartart, thanks for asking about DS. He's very whingy today, looks like the readhead freckled kid in Mad and has thrown up. But apparently this should be the worst day. I've arranged a playdate for him on Wednesday with the family who gave him chicken pox, so that'll give him something to look forward to!

DQ< what an arse that cyclist was.

Needahand, how's yuor SIL?

Katyjo, I don't know what early labour feels like either as I was induced too, so can completely empathise. I've been having loads pf periody twinges and contractions but my doula says they are probably Braxton Hicks as they keep on stopping and I'm only 35 weeks, but you are 37 weeks, aren't you? (I am sTill resolutely not packing hospital bag!)

Kingston hospital phoned today saying that they were quiet and I could come on a visit. then, when I said that DS had chicken pox, they backtracked, worrying about cross-contamination and I can't go for another two weeks. I completely understand their POV but I was really looking forward to it.

These BH have made the whole thing feel much more real. OMG - I'm having a baby in 5 weeks, or 7 weeks, or 3 weeks or 6 weeks ... or tomorrow!

OP posts:
aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 15:45

katyjo - last time I didn't have all this false labour either - mine just started from nowhere really so this is suprising me too. I am really trying not to read too much into this and prepare myself to wait it out (2w3d to go for me so it could be a while!).

systemsaddict · 19/05/2008 15:57

I had one evening of what felt like 'proper' false labour more than 2 weeks ago now (pain deep in the back like bad period pains, too bad to do anything but breathe through it) and was convinced this was the start of it - but since then it's all disappeared again and I just get Braxton-Hicks, mainly in the evening and worse if I do too much. They have been bad enough that if it was first time round I'd have been on the phone to delivery suite several times by now, but all the pain is in the front and they're not regular contractions. V. annoying though as it stops me doing anything in the evenings - had to turn down a night out last week! I have nearly 2 weeks to go till due date (and it could be a lot longer I know) so am trying not to get excited at every twinge ... this is a difficult time though1

alipalli · 19/05/2008 16:12

Thank goodness I have had a day and a half of posts to catch up on as you have done a good job of distracting me for the last 40 mins.

Warning - extended moan about trivial subject coming up... Currently wondering why my cleaner has not materialised this afternoon. She is meant to come once a fortnight for 3 hours at 2pm on a Monday. As I was always at work I could never tell exactly how much cleaning was going on, but would get home at about 6pm to a pleasing smell of bleach, and a much cleaner house, but IMO not a sparklingly clean house. 2 weeks ago I was out when she came but wrote her a note explaining that I would be on ML, and a baby is due in June etc, so she does know that. Today, I spent an hour or two tidying up the tip that is the house so that she can have a decent crack at cleaning everything, but she is currently an hour and a half late, and no phone call to say she is ill or not coming. It's getting to the point where she is so late that I am assuming she wont be coming at all, I certainly hope that she hasn't been paid for 3 hours work each time and has been getting away with an hour and a half.

Feel better for writing that down. I realise that I am extremely lucky to have a cleaner at all, and I certainly don't want to sack her when the baby is due in under two weeks!

Ernest you sound so stressed, and not surprisingly either. Depending on what you DH is like I would suggest getting him vouchers for a sports massage. I got something similar for my DH a few years ago and although it challenged his British prudishness he liked the idea lots. Also you can do it over the phone with the yellow pages so less stress for you.

Sorry to hear about everyone's DH/DP arguments. We are doing okay here, but are both getting a bored of the limited things I can do. I went for a little walk yesterday whilst DH went for a run in the opposite direction and met up 3/4 of the way round. All in all I was out for 50 mins, but it made my SPD flare up something rotten. Moral of the story - lie on the sofa eating biscuits. This is what I have been doing recently (quite diligently) but I caught sight of my thighs when I got into bed last night and was horrified. Lots of empathy to those of you having fat days.

Very amused about the ironing debate. We iron on a "need to iron" basis only. DH works in an office with a dress down policy, that means he looks like a complete scruff all the time. To distinguish between his work clothes and his weekend clothes he puts on his ripped jeans on Sats/Suns! I just iron the odd top when essential. Since starting ML it has not been essential.

Debs it was lovely to see my friend's baby, but despite my substantial girth I don't quite relate her baby to me having one of those any day now. I was putting baby sheets away in a drawer this morning and got quite alarmed wondering what I was going to do with all this baby stuff.

We had a "proper" baby name conversation yesterday, with shortlists and everything. Nathaniel made the shortlist (!) but I now think there are other names that go better with our surname. We will be fine if it is a boy and agreed on at 5 names that we both liked. Girl's names are proving harder: there is one "maybe" so we are going to have to try again.

So pleased to hear that someone else has caravanningparents. I do too. They are currently toddling around Northern Spain, and then coming back to the UK, dropping in to see me at the end of this week (my birthday), before going back to their home. They are then returning for an undisclosed period of time once the baby arrives....

Finally I saw in the horoscopes that it is a fullmoon tomorrow. Isn't this when lots of babies make an appearance ?

Sorry for the long post. Cleaner now over 2 hours late. She must be ill!

needahand · 19/05/2008 16:12

Ucake SIl has been getting slightly better for the past three days, thanks for asking. It seems that she starts to accept that she has a problem and needs to take a treatment. She seemed to be listening to the suggestion that she needs to go to a special clinic to rest/deal with her depression for a few weeks which would in any event be a much nicer environment that the hospital wing she is in. Fingers' cross this behaviour continues and that she can get the treatment she needs. DH has also decided to shield me from it all and only give me relevant information as it was stressing me up too much and taking too much of my energy, which I suppose is good.

Your poor DS, chickenpox is a bummer for active kids isn't it. I hope he feels better soon. Have you tried piriton suspension, I was told to give that to DD when she had it and it really helped.

Still no news from Makescakes, Gemma or GF

debinaustria · 19/05/2008 16:24

Needahand - glad things are looking brighter for your sil

debinaustria · 19/05/2008 16:28

Warning TMI alert

I have a different complaint about my dh - I'm still having to beat him off with a stick.
The bigger I get -and I am big, the more he wants me. It's very flattering I know, I just don't understand it. Anyone else with an exciteable dh? Maybe he's begun to remember what it's like with a newborn baby in the bedroom!!

Deb skulks away quite embarassed now!!
