We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

AH, did you get the link for the belt?

Anyone got any ideas for new thread name? My brain is more sponge than usual so all I can come up with is:

Due June 08: nests are being made, eggs are slowly starting to hatch, nerves are being frayed!

But that's probably a little negative - sorry! Still very aware that I'm a very long way down the list!

aberdeenhiker · 30/05/2008 08:50

spongebrain - yes I did... I haven't ordered one yet because I was thinking of calling for a physio appt today but maybe I should just get a belt and be done with it...

and I like the thread title! Nerves are very frayed over here!

spongebrainbigpants · 30/05/2008 08:59

I'm glad it's not just me with frayed nerves!

May be worth just ordering the belt - or you may find LO arrives before it does!

I'm thinking of ordering myself a trampoline today and bouncing up and down all day every day in the hope of hurrying LO along - does this work?!

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 09:20

Ernest, bought and paid for. My email is burngatefarm at googlemail dot com. When I get them will send straight away to you.

LauraT · 30/05/2008 09:26

morning!

Dramaqueen one can really have a lovely day out in Bravissimo in Glasgow can't one!

I got a phone call from the pram centre yesterday and my pram and car seat are all ready for collection... thinking that collecting them will make it all seem a bit more real and a bit less like I'm just playing at being pregnant and the game will stop soon!

Has anyone else found (particularly 1st timers) that they are suddenyl in huge emand for socialising in their last few weeks? I've never had such a full diary. Am slightly concerned that everyone wants to see me now so that they never have to see me again once baby is born! Mind you I now have four weddings to go to before baby is four months old, with the first on July 31st. At least that one is nearby though, the second one is 6th Sept and near Poole and the last one is in Ireland. oh well, should be interesting!

How little work do you think I can get away with doing today? I only have today and Monday left at work and if I do any report dictation I won't be able to check it by the time it's been typed and so on, so really I would just be making work for someone else if I actively do anything today... perhaps I shall just sit around and look slightly uncomfortable to put off any questions about what I'm actually doing???

1 more day of May and we're actually in the month our babies are due!! new thread title should surely include this somewhere??

Due June 08: s**t it IS June, and I still haven't packed my hospital bag...

LauraT · 30/05/2008 09:29

Sophiewd - have just realised that your farm is one of the ones on the list of accomodation we have been sent for the wedding we are going to on 6th September - and after perusing the list I gave it's name to DH along with 2 others to try and book over the next few days!!! it looks lovely! how random is that???

PregnantPenguin · 30/05/2008 09:35

Just a quickie - got to go out (to Bravissimo DQ, hopefully not for the whole day tho ), but my MN addiction made me logon before I did!

Sending virtual hobnobs to everyone who's not feeling too happy this morning (just had a couple with my morning tea, after a very healthy fruit salad for breakfast, opps!).

Another negative name suggestion: June is here, so where are the bloomin' babies!!!???

PregnantPenguin · 30/05/2008 09:40

Just saw TV ad - Sainsburys is doing half price baby toiletries again....

spongebrainbigpants · 30/05/2008 09:41

How about:

June is here, some of the eggs are hatched and nerves are beginning to fray for those left behind!

PP, thanks for the virtual hobnobs, I had already had some Ferro Rocher left over from a dinner party a couple of nights ago - how's that for a healthy breakfast!

whinegums · 30/05/2008 09:42

Morning all, sorry to hear about ongoing woes.

Laura - you are officially allowed to do NOTHING on your last day! And it would be just not on to make work for someone else by doing anything. Get the hob nobs out and the kettle on.

I don't want to wind anyone up, but I'm sort of enjoying this last bit (although might feel differently in a few weeks time). Still have the unrealness thing going on. Must try and make an effort today to nest/pack bag/etc.

Just wanted to say I thought I was very brave at dentist yesterday - didn't run away, and even she said she was surprised that I made the appointment. I really was that scared. And of course in the end it wasn't too bad. Feeling a bit sore today, but nothing major. As I feel pretty much the same about giving birth (don't want to do it, it will be shit) hopefully I'll have an equally positive outcome! Low expectations are a good strategy...

Spongebrain - love the idea of you going hell for leather on a trampoline. Who knows if it will speed things up, but it might be fun to try.

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 09:48

Excellent Laura, we still have rooms, large ones and all baby equipment and do babysitting as well.

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 09:53

Even if not with us do it sooner rather than later as B&B#s get booked up pretty quickly around here.

bitofadramaqueen · 30/05/2008 10:05

Morning all, I've had a lie in today so clearly my day out in bravissimo tired me out .

Am in a bit of a strop because the weather forecast all week had yesterday as a bit so-so in Glasgow and super sunny in Fife. We wanted to have a day at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum one day and a day at the seaside in Fife the other, so of course we went to Glagow yesterday (which turned into a scorcher of a day) and have woken up today and it's p'ing it down, with no sign of any let up. Grrrrr

DH has suggested the Indiana Jones film but Edinburgh kids dont have school on a Fri afternoon so suspect the cinema might be full of brats other people's DC.

Ernest glad someone is sorting out your mesh bag. That reminds me that I only got one and should get another. Also realised that I still haven't bought a curtain rail for LO's room. Monday is definitely a day to make a list of everything I still need I think!

Laura - dont do any work!!! Do things like tidying out your desk, clearing emails etc. I left all that to the last minute and ended up bringing home bags of crap to sort out (which is all still in bags ).

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions for a rainy afternoon, point them in my direction please...

PiggyPenguin · 30/05/2008 10:12

Thanks for the raspberry leaf tea advice everyone, I think I'll try to get out to get some today. Wonder if they do it at Tescos as then I can look at cheapo maternity bras too...

I agree with Aberdeenhiker that we will all feel little more positive when we have a few more babies and can see the epxpectancy list going down a bit. I know it depresses the hell out of me to see how many people are going to get their little ones before me. Although obviously by the same token I am dreading someone after me on the list giving brth first - that would just be too demoralising!

LauraT · 30/05/2008 10:16

sophie will get DH on the case this weekend (no excuses allowed!)it's his friend's wedding so he's in charge of booking everything - I did the one in Ireland(which isn't until Oct and has been booked since March!)

DQ I would go with the cinema, once the film starts they'll all be quiet anyway! other option for a rainy afternoon is make the list you were going to make on Monday and go to the seaside on Monday!

Deb are you having your baby or just entertaining the MIL? you should really keep us up to date on this!

AH don't worry, there are a finite number of days left and one way or the other you'll get there. My DH's theory is that the last few weeks are full of discomfort and sleepless nights to give our bodies time to adjust to other sources of sleepless nights. I am now taking care to make sure that he is getting the practise of sleeplessness too by being very loud and sighing a lot when I can't get comfortable. I also steal his pillow from under his head when he's asleep. Is this mean?

Rolf · 30/05/2008 10:18

I'm so glad everyone else feels crap today (in a nice way!). After my hour or so of continuous period-type pain I gave birth to....violent diorrhea . Today I feel very queasy and exhausted and am desperate for some time on my own.

It's lovely having the children home from school, having the in-laws around (staying round the corner), the builders knocking down ceilings and out attic contents all over the house, but I am becoming quite keen on escaping to the hospital . I can't get into that pre-birth "zone" as I keep thinking of all the things I have to do before I can find the time to have a baby. DS2's party is over but it's his birthday today and I want him to feel special - so can't really hide all day.

Spongebrain - if your pelvic floor can cope with bouncing on a trampoline, I salute you!

Whinegums - well done on your bravery at the dentist.

Laura - enjoy your last couple of days at work. Of course you shouldn't do any work. You should mess around.

I discovered last night that DD had put her tea set and some facecloths down the loo (not the loo I had diarrhoa in thank goodness) so had to do a fish around the u-bend for tiny saucers. I've washed them all but don't think I'll be accepting any more "cups of tea" from her. Will save that for people who annoy me over the next few weeks, and I'm sure there will be plenty

Rolf · 30/05/2008 10:22

DS2's party was a trip to see the Indiana Jones film with his friends. DH and I missed whole chunks of it as we had to take various children on loo trips throughout the film (always the exciting bits). Honestly, as soon as one had finished and we'd returned to the auditorium, another would need to go .

spongebrainbigpants · 30/05/2008 10:23

Laura, love the idea of you stealing dh's pillow!

Rolf, this is my first baby so pelvic floor should be ok for bouncing on trampoline shouldn't it?! I won't do it after the birth I promise!

Lol at the idea of you giving tea to unwelcome visitors in tea cups that have been down the loo - how lovely!

I'm a novice here so may be asking a stupid question, but isn't violent diorrhea a sign of impending labour?

bitofadramaqueen · 30/05/2008 10:32

Rolf isn't a 'big clear out' a sign of imminent labour sometimes? Oh, have just read that spongebrain has said the same thing.

Thanks Laura we might just end up at cinema today. DH back at work next week so seaside today or not at all . He's been off this week so we could have some nice day trips on our own pre-baby and because we wont be going on holiday this summer. LOL at you stealing your DH's pillow!

Right must go and get some breakfast.

bitofadramaqueen · 30/05/2008 10:34

Oh, anyone know where I can get a tea strainer for my raspberry leaf tea? Had some for ages but still not started taking it yet. Had a look in debenhams the other day but they had some fancy expensive tea infuser thingy and I just want a very basic tea strainer.

whinegums · 30/05/2008 10:37

DQ - maybe you should head west again today, it's not scorchio here yet, but it's not raining and the sun is trying to get out. BBC weather forecasts are crap ime, but metcheck is pretty good, and you can get v specific with it.

Rolf - hope you feel better soon. All sounds a bit much round at yours - I think you need to escape (but maybe not to the hospital!)

Rolf · 30/05/2008 10:39

Whittards? they usually sell tea strainers. If you're near a Chinese supermarket they sell them too.

Yes about the "clear out" but I've been having "clear outs" for the last week or so . I'm sure it's all mechanical rather than a bug, iyswim - the baby pressing on my bowel I guess. Even if labour isn't imminent I guess all this is getting my body ready. I'm just getting sick of all the antitipation. I never thought I would look back with nostalgia to my pregnancy with DD when I knew from fairly early that I would be induced at 38 weeks.

LauraT · 30/05/2008 10:42

Rolf am stalking you from baby name thread... what is the name of the baby name book that had the helpful type list you posted? It sounds like the kind of book I need!

So far the no work plan is going well by the way ladies, please keep posting so I have something else to respond to

Rolf · 30/05/2008 10:50

Laura - it's called (cringingly) "The Brilliant Book of Baby Names" and has a vile picture on the front of a baby wearing sunglasses and a green boa. The authors are rather opinionated but the lists are useful. My favourite lists are "names that are classic but not boring" and "clunky but cool". If you want any more info let me know

Glad the not working is going well!

LauraT · 30/05/2008 10:55

that is a vile picture! found it on amazon. might get it this weekend, as our short lists are very short... i.e., one name long, and am panicking that I change my mind at the last minute and have no alternatives lined up. Also, if I have a book, perhaps DH will stop suggesting Gandalf and Gertrude and Teapot and any other random words that pop into his head...
