901 messages already, I am so not going to have my baby on this thread! Wonder if we will hear from Paro soon...

Could anyone give me raspberry leaf tea advice? When are you supposed to start drinking it and what is it supposed to do? Have decided I am fed up with being fed up and need to do something positive to counter aches/pains and general late pg blues.

ktpie · 29/05/2008 19:17

GF - I'd agree with you about freecycle, we got rid of our old oven (the mucky one!) on it and loads of other stuff. Never actually got anything from there, everything goes really fast on ours.
We are with you on the never wash the car thing too, what else is rain for!

Essie - that made me laugh about you not looking at July, don't they induce you once you are two weeks overdue? You would think he would know that!
Hope the Tesco bras turn out OK. I got a pack of two nighties there for a fiver yesterday to stick in my hospital bag, and they had some black pyjamas that looked like they would do for hospital as well which were also a fiver, but not in my size typically.

LauraT · 29/05/2008 19:24

can't remember who asked, but after the first 20 minutes, which I thought were lame, Indy was great fun and a nice light relief night out. definately 3 or 4 stars from me!

I saw the nursing bras in Tesco too, but they don't do my size they never do my bra size in bargain places

aberdeenhiker · 29/05/2008 19:25

raspberry leaf tea is from anytime after 36 weeks, I heard that you should start with one cup a day and then at 38 weeks go to 3-4 cups. It does increase my braxton-hicks - not that they need any encouragement these days... but I'm not sure if the tea is supposed to induce labour, just tone your uterus...

poppy34 · 29/05/2008 20:07

wow can hardly keep up. I'm on raspberry leaf capsules - 3 a day.. will wait and see if they work.

fingers crossed but think may actually have finsihed up all my works so can properly rest.

thanks for update on indiana jones LauraT -we're off on saturday. it was my favourite thing when I was a kid so really looking forward to it.

PregnantPenguin · 29/05/2008 20:31

*Sybil - It'll be over soon! I've been on a couple of cups of RLT for a couple of weeks now. Think now I'm 38 weeks I'll be increasing it to 4 cups a day. It's just to tone the uterus for stronger and hopefully more effective contractions, if I ever get any!

*Laura - Off to Bravissimo tomorrow, I must be mad, it's in Covent Garden! Then maybe John Lewis if I'm still not convinced. Thinking about this has mad me realise how saggy my boobs are in my current bras so got to get decent ones for next 6ms or so. Your thread was v useful Essie, thank you.

*Needahand - Your post was lovely, esp the cuddles! I'm washing more than before already, I don't fit into enough clothes for it to be a weekly chore nowdays.

*Ernest - What a horrible experience you had with DS1. Perhaps hosps were nicer when our parents/their parents used to stay in for 2 weeks.

*Essie - If you're going into labour I want to too! We're due the same day. Hope the pains subside or turn into something real soon.

*KTpie - LOL at your power cut! Unfortunately despite the reasons for going, I was in the antenatal clinic this morning. Did nip into the colonoscopy bit for a few mins and woman was lovely.

*Greenfairy - Diagnosis was via palpatation, not scan, but two people in hosp did it - and after bl00dy consultant, I just wanted to get out of there. My GP confirmed the same, so fingers crossed they were right...
The in laws thing does seem a bit much TBH.

*Poppy - Great that you can finally rest.

Essie3 · 29/05/2008 21:49

PP yes, I'm watching you closely too! It's also your first isn't it? Also in Wimbledon - I'm Tooting (when in London). We're twin pregnancies or something! I don't know about real labour - I have waves of pain (not agonising) in my lower back, the fanjo pain thing, but no show or anything obvious, and can't get a clear answer on whether his head is engaged.
Sybil my herbalist told me that RLT is for toning the uterus and making contractions more effective, but not for inducing. I've been taking my 'womb tea' (from the herbalist RLT and other stuff - it looks like loft lagging!!) twice a day for the last 2 weeks, but considering increasing it, although it's not too nice. She also refused to give me herbs to bring on labour - they're apparently much the same herbs as would have been traditionally used for abortion. I suppose it makes sense.

Right, back to Britain's Got Talent. (Subtitled 'and Essie has no brain or taste or dignity'.)

Essie3 · 29/05/2008 21:54

PregnantPenguin just saw your post on the other thread. So freaky - I'm also having a boy. Just imagine if I was in Tooting as well! So weird!

bitofadramaqueen · 29/05/2008 22:08

Hi everyone,

Just back from very lovely day out in Bravissimo. Very tired, so just skimmed the last three pages from today to check I hadn't missed any births.

I had a bra fitting in bravissimo and would absolutely recommend everyone getting a fitting there! Nursing bras have loads of extra hooks so any that you buy pre-birth should fit on the loosest hook and you should have a bit of spare room in your cup size. Also, the NCT offer fitting sessions and they are pretty expert in letting you know what size you'll need post birth (and they'll exchange any you buy no hassle if the size isn't quite right). Like someone said, even if you dont buy from Bravissimo/NCT they are definitely the experts. From my own experience M&S and John Lewis can be hit and miss depending on the fitter.

I bought one nursing bra today and will buy another (cheaper) one to tide me over for the first few weeks. Wont uy any more until I see how I get on with bf and how my shape pans out.

Right, enough about bras - I'm off to watch heroes and have a creme egg. I think we're going to need another thread title tomorrow!

(Oh, wont be about too much either - me and DH having another day out, this time to the seaside for famous fish and chips!).

bitofadramaqueen · 29/05/2008 22:09

Wont be about too much tomorrow I meant to say!

bitofadramaqueen · 29/05/2008 22:10

Oh, and I wasn't really back from lovely day out in Bravissimo, I was in Glasgow Am clearly too tired!

Rolf · 30/05/2008 03:24

I'm a left-hander born in February so hopefully still part of the gang!

Another MW came today to see if she could work out where the baby is. She's also pretty sure it's head down and engaged - sure enough to think that I don't need to have a scan . Apparently the reason I'm difficult to palpate is becuase my stomach muscles are so crap. I'd have thought that would make it easier but she said something about them all being in a heap at the bottom of my bump . She reckoned I'll need surgery afterwards to fix them (but maybe I'll get a tummy tuck as well!).

We were sure on Wednesday that the baby was coming. I felt very pre-menstrual with a "band" of achiness around my bump and lower back that lasted all day. The doula came round and wouldn't let me go out on my own. Nothing much on Thursday which was good as it was DS2's party, and I woke up about an hour ago with contractions that were bad enough to keep me awake, so I got up and wrapped DS2's present (his birthday is today). They've stopped now.

Sympathies to those with builders in - we have them here too. The contents of the attic are strewn all over the house and, more annoyingly, DH keeps wanting me to come up to the attic to talk about partitions and bookcases and as I have no spacial sense whatsoever, I have little to add. I'm also insisting that he deals with the builder - I have too much of a placenta brain to be coherent - and DH is getting stressed about it.

Mellymell - Happy birthday

Ernest - know what you mean about girls' names. We still don't have one and there are loads of boys' names that we love. At DS2's party yesterday I was looking at DS2 with his friends and thinking how lovely little boys are. DH and I are rather scared of girls. Obviously we love our DD madly but trying to imagine her at a party with girly friends made us very queasy! We need to ease ourselves into the world of girls!

PearTart - that's very sad about your parents. I'm sorry.

Neenz - glad Esther is feeding better. So long as she's putting on weight and seems ok, she's fine IMO. The weight-gain charts are pretty contentious (there's lots of threads about them here) as they are not really geared to breastfeeding.

My children are having a lovely time with their grandparents, and it is so helpful having them around, but the children are being quite obnoxious. DS1 is being v cocky and is full of testostrone. DS2 is being over-excited and silly. DD is being a cow and telling tales on everyone! I think the return to school routine will be a good thing.

Right, must try to get some sleep.

spongebrainbigpants · 30/05/2008 06:35

Good morning everyone - well, should have been a good morning but I have had absolutely no sleep and just feel like sitting here crying .

This area is plagued by power cuts at the moment and yesterday was the worst yet - power went off at 5pm, we went out for a meal with the NCT group at 7pm still no power, came home at 11pm, still no power. Power came back on at 5am this morning! I was sleeping on the sofa bed in the lounge last night cos we're having our bedroom carpets fitted this morning, and the electricity workmen were working right outside my window all night. To top it off, I had terrible indigestion, kept on moving to try and relieve it and cracked my pelvis really badly so am now in a whole load of pain.

Sorry for the moan, just sooooo tired and feeling very sorry for myself. Not helped by the fact that most of my NCT friends are about to give birth and I'm not even 37 weeks yet. Moan over.

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 07:29

Morning all .

Spongebrain - can you get some sleep today at all?

Well it is groundhog day again here, breakfast, bank, shopping, ironing, but the sun is out so it makes it better. Feel tired but had a long morning out with DD yesterday adn had RL book club last night, so a quiet weekend before freinds arrive on Sunday (him definitely her maybe), but did have a chat with him and he said that seh would be extatic to be asked to be GM to very happy parents to be here. OK bacon time.

ErnestTheBavarian · 30/05/2008 07:50

Morning all.

Sponge, I can really empathise. It's a really stupid twist of nature that the last couple of weeks or so before birth are so shit, so you go into it feeling like shit. Surely it would make more sense that we automatically hibernate for 2 weeks so build up our sleep reserves? I have whizzed through this pg, but since this demon rash started I am really ticking off the days (and at the same time living in fear of popping early, as my Plan Zee (Plankton - you seen the spongebob film I take it?) is very tenuous to say the least. Basically, I'll be up shit creek without a paddle if I don't hang on.

WIll attempt again today to go to baby shop (went yesterday and got - a bra). I need a bouncy chair. For sure. Can't remember what features to look out for? Anyone got one they recommend & why?

Spophie, that's really kind. I can't remember how much they were (mesh bags?) I saw them on ebay, 2 for £5- That would be perfect, but I can't get onto UK ebay from here - automatically get re routed to German site. If anyone could help me out I am honest, honest And will send you a cheque. Still, I absolutely understand we've all got rather a lot on at the moment. I keep thinking I should really pull my finger out and go through the baby clothes, and maybe get them out of storage, and check if I need to buy anything.

OMG I forced myself to go throught the baby name book again last night, and the only girl's name I actively like, dh has vetoed. I really haven't heard one that I like. Seems a bit depressing to just pick any name for the sake of it and have to go through life with a name I don't like. Think it is symptomatic of my fears of having a girl at all. Really crossing everything for a boy. DOes that sound really bad? It's stressing me out a bit.

Sophie, bacon. sob.

PearTart · 30/05/2008 07:57

Morning Early Birds!

TMI warning...
Was in a bad mood y.day due to baby-induced constipation. I really wanted to go but there's a sodding great big baby's head in the way and nothing was coming. And didn't want to strain and cause haemorrhoids. Spent most of the day drinking water and eating fruit and (ahem) all OK now. (Top Tip- pint of lukewarm water first thing in am, drank in one go, promotes gastro-colic reflex)

Rolf- did you have heartburn? Posting at 3am. Your DC's sound like fun. Great news about baby's position- cheeky MW saying that about your muscles! What do they expect with a baby in there? (thanks for your comment re: parents, it sucks but I'm used to it now- it's just my reality)

Spongebrain- what a crap night, moan away. I wouldn't fancy the sofa-bed right now.

Sophie- Really glad your friend is happy to be asked to be GM.

BDQ- LOL at "lovely day out in Bravissimo" I think i've had one of those...

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 07:57

Ernest send me a link will order and send to you.

PearTart · 30/05/2008 08:00

Morning Ernest too!

I always manage to cross-post with you. We haven't officially gone through names yet- don't know where the time has gone.
Don't stress, it'll all change when your babe is born.

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 08:01

Are these them, If so will order today for you

here

spongebrainbigpants · 30/05/2008 08:11

Hi guys, sophie, yes will try and get some sleep today but expecting the carpet guy sometime between 8 and 1pm, and knowing my luck he'll turn up at 12.55pm! Will definitely have a sleep this afternoon though.

And good news about your friend - it's so hard dealing with friends who have fertility problems when you're pg, some of ours got it right and some of them got it catastrophically wrong. As others have said, I think it's just important to take the lead from her.

Ernest, good luck with the shopping!

Rolf, sorry to hear about the constipation - how awful .

Right, off to make a cup of tea and cheer myself up. Can't mope all day.

ErnestTheBavarian · 30/05/2008 08:13

Sophie, yes, I think that's spot on, would you really? You are an angel

PT, thanks, that's just the right thiing to say Now I just need a name. And some energy. And curtains in baby's room. And baby clothes. And a big house clean. And pack hospital bag and and and....

Deb, YOu didn't spontaneously combust on mil arrival? LO still in there?

sophiewd · 30/05/2008 08:19

Will get it sorted later today then.

PearTart · 30/05/2008 08:24

Ernest- may list-of-must-do's today includes hoovering out the car. That pre-baby essential!

ErnestTheBavarian · 30/05/2008 08:27

shite PT, you must be a to do list twin. snap. should've done it yesterday - after all my mum and sd will be using the car and it is ankle deep in cereal bar and rice cake debris.

And you're right, it IS essential. Just wondering if in this new house if the hoover will reach the garage. That's enough of a stumbling block for me.

aberdeenhiker · 30/05/2008 08:27

I've just made myself a cup of real tea, forget this raspberry leaf yuck! and am so glad I logged on to mumsnet. At first I thought I couldn't handle hearing everyone else get excited about having their babies, but actually there's so many people saying exactly what I feel, it's very reassurring! I totally didn't expect to still be pregnant right now, nor did everyone else, and with hip pain, so this is all very frustrating.

I'm hoping that when we start getting more babies on this list it might help actually, because right now I feel like this isn't going to result in a baby. I cuddle with DS and all I can think is "when will we get back to normal" and in my head, I'm thinking of a family of three. I just want my mobility back so I can be a good mum again rather than a odd-shaped lump that lies on the floor and has trouble getting up...
