I wonder how quickly we'll get through this thread?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
debinaustria · 13/05/2008 18:03

My name is Deb and I am addicted to Mumsnet - there I've admitted it.

Had a crap nights sleep last night, too hot, too noisy, too much weeing and all of us sleeping in one room. Have not allowed myself any naps today so I should be comatosed by bedtime.

Had a lovely day - tennis(watched boys and dh), swimming, walk to park, big ice cream sundae, now escaped on here whilst boys watch tv and dh is in the bath, then we#re off into dinner

Paro - glad you're Ok

Makecakes - best of luck for tomorrow, looking forward to hearing from you when you come back out and can't wait to see your baby photos

Everyone else hope you're OK

mellymell · 13/05/2008 18:17

My name is Mellymell and I am also addicted to Mumsnet. I could stop my addiction anytime (sniff), but am staying online to support the June thread (sniff). MM reaches for her mouse to refresh the screen.

Have my 36/37 week scan tomorrow. Just have a feeling that they are going to try and persuade me to get things moving in week 38. Am keen to keep all things medical away from me till at least week 39 when I will do everything to get things going naturally (raspberry leaf capsules, pineapple and reflexology sessions at the ready). Am determined that they don't muck me around like last time. [determined, chin jutting - think Clint Eastwood - emoticon]

Am having to do a bit of work at home, so obviously I am posting here instead of concentrating! However, it's so civilised working from home - am sitting on my exercise ball with the radio on and the window open wtih the summer breeze blowing in - very .

katyjo · 13/05/2008 18:46

Hi everyone,

Still waiting for something to start happening. I'm pretty sure baby has dropped and I still think I am getting mild contractions, but maybe just bh, who knows!!

So we are g43 maybe we'll have these lo on the same day! My dh is desperate to start pat leave as well, and plus I think he feels even more helpless than I do!

Good luck for tomorrow makecakes, it can sometimes go really smoothly being induced so don't worry too much. I am very jealous you'll get to meet your little one very soon.

PearTart · 13/05/2008 19:23

Ooooh, exciting Makecakes- hope it all goes well!

Katyjo- I thought you were next- must be so frustrating with all the BH...

Needahand- sorry you had such a bad experience and hope you can rest now.

GreenFairy- WTF is your MW on?? Making love whilst in labour- my mind is boggling. Don't know who'd need the G&A more!!

splodgesmum · 13/05/2008 19:24

systemsaddict, totally agree with you on the guilt trip - but it doesn't just stop at the door of the labour suite does it?

was out with a couple of friends this afternoon who have young babies and we were all saying that we are so overwhelmed with advice and information at every turn nowadays that the whole thing feels overwhelming - whether it be pain relief in labour, breast feeding or what nappies to use. My head is exploding!

As for labour, I'm also a first-timer and have no idea how I'm going to feel, so while I have asked not to have too much intervention too quickly I'm not going to beat myself up if I need an epidural - the only thing that matters to me is that my LO is born safely . .

splodgesmum · 13/05/2008 19:29

Paro, good to hear from you and that your BP is down - although bed rest for 4 weeks doesn't sound fun .

Needahand, sorry holiday was so hard and things are so stressful with you at the moment.

cakes, good luck x

Just watching the news about China and all those lost children. Feeling very .

aberdeenhiker · 13/05/2008 19:29

GreenFairy - my DH asked for sex last time while I was in early labour. It really wasn't appealing though so I said no! This time we're both a bit keen to try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible before labour starts - as the enforced break after felt like a long time. (And then I'd had stitches so it was sore for a while).

Lorettah · 13/05/2008 19:31

What a day, my feet have swollen up to be at least double the size & my toes look like cocktail sausages!!!

God I really can't wait to finish wk, I really wish I'd finished earlier hey ho the week will be over soon. At least I've got Friday to look forward to - my 36 / 37 wk scan to see where placenta is hopefully it's moved up the uterus wall....

PearTart · 13/05/2008 19:32

Too true Splodgesmum! How you give birth is not always within your control- that's the reason there are so many people trained to help when help is needed. It's more important to have a healthy birth than the ideal of a natural/ water/ home birth (delete as necessary).
There are good births and I consider myself lucky to have had a good experience. But one type of birth shouldn't be seen as a higher form than another.

Whatever way it happens a woman who becomes a mummy is a star and should have a big medal and take no crap from anyone. so there!

PearTart · 13/05/2008 19:35

DD is in bed now- just read her the "Pants" book. It goes "Small Pants, Big Pants, Giant Frilly Pig Pants..."

just thought I'd share that!

systemsaddict · 13/05/2008 20:22

Good luck makecakes, can't wait to hear!!

Needahand so sorry to hear your worries with SIL continued and a crap holiday on top . I hope you can now get lots of rest to recover and find ways of treating yourself to make up for the holiday disappointment!

alipalli just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't having a pop at you with my rant! It sounds like you have absolutely the right attitude, I was more worried about you having been made to worry about the pethidine thing. We had a similar experience with a really lovely midwife for our antenatal and breastfeeding classes, who I got a lot of support from in breastfeeding afterwards; but on the actual birth she was pretty negative about most possible interventions, which scared us off a lot of the things which proved both necessary and helpful in the event.

splodgesmum completely with you on the advice - the only thing I have learned about parenting is that there is no right way to do it! There is just the way that you, your family and your LO find your way to, that suits your circumstances and character. Sure information is helpful, and I have read piles of stuff on feeding and sleep in particular, having had some issues with both; but the most helpful thing that anyone can tell you is to have confidence you'll find your own way, however lost you might feel at some points getting there!

I have in my hospital bag both Big Pants and Giant Frilly Pig Pants

splodgesmum · 13/05/2008 20:37

Peartart, what are 'small' pants - forgotten those days!!!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 13/05/2008 20:37

needahand, sorry you had such a crap sounding holiday. At least your dh was brave enough to call it off too, and not stuck it out till the bitter end.

AH my Q was re sizing. According to the charts, for some I'm size 2 & others I'm size 3, so unsure which to get. I also read (on Amazon I think) a few people saying if in doubt go for the size smaller. As I'm ordering from UK to Germany, I can't really faff about trial and error style, so wondered what you thought on this. Of course, all these measurements are based on pre preg, and I'll basically gradually (hopefilly) be shrinking, so...? Ta if you can help. If it helps you in a past life (ie 9 months ago) I was 5'2", 59 kilos, bra size B

Ta

bitofadramaqueen · 13/05/2008 21:16

Sytemaddict - loved your post. At our ante-natal class (the NHS one) the other week the MW was a bit like 'well, if you really really feel like you need an epidural...' like it was a really bad thing, but on the other hand she was raving about pethidine because she had it and loved it. We should just be given unbiased advice about the different options. Even my mum commented when I mentioned epidural 'well, hopefully you wont need one of those'.

For me personally, I'd rather have an epidural than pethidine (actually, I think its diamorphine in my hospital) but I think that everyone's views/preferences need to be respected by medical staff/family/friends. It's ridiculous that women are made to feel bad if they dont go for a totally natural birth. Oops, sorry, didn't mean to rant!!!! .

Have just had a very entertaining time trying the new baby carrier on DH. We got a babybjorn synergy as a gift (sorry, I know some people anti-babybjorn) and it was very funny seeing DH getting all tangled up in it .

OP posts:
splodgesmum · 13/05/2008 21:29

DQ, out of interest why are some people anti-babybjorn? I am v keen on getting some kind of sling and have been offered a babybjorn on loan and heard good things - interested to hear the other side?

On a different note, SPD suffers have any of you found that your other joints are starting to 'crack' now? Every time I use my arms for weight bearing or reach behind me to get something my shoulders/elbows/wrists make alarming cracking noises, like my pelvis but without the pain .

Is this due to the relaxin too or am I officially falling apart?!

goingfor3 · 13/05/2008 21:30

splodgesmum I really liked my babybjorn. It's not meant to be great for the baies hips as it doesn't have a bucket seat. DD2 was in her most days up to 6 months and walked at 9 months so she didn't have any sort of problems!!!

josey · 13/05/2008 21:41

Just popping in to say hello....DH has been keeping me busy with things that we need to get organised....looks like he will be away again next week for 7days so Im getting twitchy at the thought.

Really fed up and want things to be over with as Im just feeling so rubbish but want baby to stay put as long as....just no pleasing.

The water I have is shocking...I dont seem to be able to pee properly then when I have been lying down in the evening and go for a pee I cant stop its very weird. Not sleeping well lo's bum is under my ribs and when I wake my hands are like claws and I have to massage my fingers to open them...yep falling to bits.

I went to a wedding dance sat night I had to buy shoes and I have gone from a 4 to a 6 and a half....DH got upset the other night when he saw a dent left in my leg as I was sitting curled up for a bit so getting loads of sympathy which is good.

I have read through the posts but cant remember what was what as there was so many so will just say love and hugs to you all xx

poppy34 · 13/05/2008 22:08

just popping in to see whats going on but can't keep up..josey sorry you're feeling rubbish. Am with you on the hurry up/don't hurry up dilemma. splodgesmum/systemaddict -really good posts for us first timers..

But most exciting news of the day (apart from fact managed to persuade my doctor that it would be quite nice to meet my midwife sometime before I'm fully dilated..) was that for all you creme egg starved people I saw a creme egg bar on sale in wh smiths today... there were quite lot of them so am assuming its not a seasonal thing.

Upsidedowncake · 13/05/2008 22:35

Needahand, I'm sorry that you had such a rotten holiday, and that things were so difficult with your SIL. Someone once said to my re my mother that it's not selfish to focus on your own family instead of the person who is ill all the time, especially when they don't want to be helped. I hope things calm down soon for her though.

Makecakes, how are you doing?

Josey, sorry you're feeling rotten.

Babybjorns - DS had one and walked at 9 months too.

Mellymel, agree with you re working at home. It's the business and makes me think about going freelance after the LO is born ...!

I hope everyone has a good night.

xxgemmalou22xx · 14/05/2008 05:03

well its early morning and im awake again regular as clock work and the first thing i felt when i woke was a jab in the side off my baby! why are they always active when we are tired! lol i have woke up feeling a bit of pain in my stomach nothing too bad but it is uncomfortable i feel fragile today i dont think im going to be long before im pushing her out! i cant seem to get comfortable now either its so uncomfortable laying on my back i only find it just bareable on my right hand side now!

sophiewd · 14/05/2008 08:10

Morning all, just waiting for guests to come down. I ahve to apologise but I go to bed and then I sleep all night. I did last time aswell, sorry for everyone who doesn't. Well its a nother nice day here, so will do a spot of gardening, waiting for the rain to arrive tomorrow.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/05/2008 08:29

Hi everyone,

Splodge - it is something to do with hips I think. I've also known lots of people who are happy with them hence we went for one. I think I've picked up on some anti-babybjorn opinions around MN somewhere (like most things, slings seem to bring out strong opinions in some quarters). Thankfully, its all nice and non-judgey on this thread .

The synergy is quite soft and light. Thankfully purchased by a very generous relative as its very ££££.

needahand - so sorry to hear about your rubbish holiday. Hope you enjoyed some time off and nice weather when you got home.

makecakes I've only been skimming the last couple of days - what's your latest update?

On day off today (loving this part-time working!!) so off to the shops. Wish me luck in finding some suitable stuff to see me through to the end of pregnancy and beyond...

OP posts:
aberdeenhiker · 14/05/2008 08:46

ernest - I would order your prepregnancy size definitely - when the babies are first born they are so tiny that the fact we're bigger probably doesn't matter.

If you are ordering one of the two-sided reversible ones, I'd probably go for the size 3, as I found they stretched less. Otherwise,a size 2 should be fine. I'm a size 3, I'm 5'5", (I was) 61 kgs, and a 36B, and it fits me perfectly. It sounds like you might be a bit smaller, especially if your bra size is less than a 36, so then the size 2 should work.

Note that they do feel tight when you first put the baby in, but one that's too big is uncomfortable! I hope this helps!

aberdeenhiker · 14/05/2008 08:50

josey - can't believe your DH is gone again for another 7 days! Is he local/not offshore this time?

The whole peeing thing could be because the baby's head is blocking your bladder when you stand up and then maybe when you lie down it gets out of the way... I'm also finding that sometimes I can't pee when I think I should be able to.

makecakesnotwar · 14/05/2008 09:30

MOrning all-

I am literally twiddling my thumbs now...bag packed, husband prepped, just counting the hours until admission tonight. Had a lovely meal last night with my lovely husband- we stayed up for ages because neither of us could get to sleep, but did eventually. Will try to nap today too, as I've heard that sleep is the one thing you really need! I might even be getting a little nervous...

Debs & Mel- I am also a mn addict. I have been for over a year. I can't help myself. Its almost real life to me...

Splodge- my bones have been cracking for weeks, especially my hips and pelvis when I turn over in bed...they also make this revolting bone scraping noise. Grrr.
