I wonder how quickly we'll get through this thread?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
debinaustria · 09/05/2008 09:15

With ds1 I took some brand new slippers into hospital and I couldn't get them on my feet .

Lol Ernest - I think it's Rolf that should be having the Fango package not me!!

LauraT · 09/05/2008 09:21

for some reason the strange filters that apply to NHS computers won't let me read page 14 of this thread... hope I haven't missed anything exciting, was there any news from Neenz?

Hooray it's friday, and last night I slept through for 7.5 hours! so pleased and refreshed!

Off to stay with parents this weekend as DH is -pissing- -off- going on an essential work trip to Sweden and leaving me all alone, looking forward to some quality Mum bonding time!

mellymell · 09/05/2008 09:23

Morning.

It is official - this is the loveliest discussion board on the net. Thanks for all the sympathy and support - you have all really cheered me up with ref the Manchester posting.

DH is a bit more chipper now as well, now that we've discussed it properly. In a weird way, he can pretty much dicatate the type of job he does up there and has gone back wtih a number of 'demands' including working the 5th day from home which would be great.

He doesn't get paternity leave becuase he hasn't been there long enough, so will probably take some annual leave. He enjoyed the bonding time so much with DS that he wanted to repeat it with the new babe.

Now, enough of my moaning. It's my last day of work (in the office - still have another 2 days of work but can do from home). At the end of today, I am going to brush the dust of work off my feet and walk away without a backwards look. ha ha [in the style of a pirate scorning landlubbers ].

Have parents staying with me at the moment - realised I didn't put any soap in their bathroom, no towels or flowers to make their room nice. Am such a bad hostess! Left for work as they were settling down for breakfast with DS - was rather a sweet family setting!

Oh god, must start the raspberry leaf tea thing, but it tastes horrible. Capsules, definitely the way to go. And looking forward to my reflexology on the w/end, although the practitioner will have strict instructions that I don't want anything induced for at least 3 weeks so I get full pay (holiday leave) for as long as possible!

Enough of my drivel. Have lovely mornings all.

makecakesnotwar · 09/05/2008 09:38

Ernest- probably too late, but I have the Avent/Philips moinitor....I seem to remember they have Philips in Germany.

Rolf- good luck with the garlic- I had a friend who had to go to the doctor twice to have tampons removed when we were at uni...odd shaped vagina apparently, so they kept getting lost (sorry...tmi??)

I have a pair of linen trousers from Blooming Marvellous I bought on EBay. They look like a rag the moment I wear them but are so light and comfy I just don't care!!

Treated myself to Weleda Rose Shower Creme yesterday when in pharmacy...just used it and it's heavenly- I feel and smell lovely. Totally recommend it.

Rolf · 09/05/2008 09:39

Right, I'm assuming it fell out in the night. I mentioned it to a GP friend on the school run and once she'd stopped laughing she agreed that gravity was on my side.

Ernest - think using the whole bulb would be a great idea if there was going to be a next time, but there isn't .

Mellymell - glad you're feeling better about your DH's job. Are they going to provide accommodation in Manchester? There are LOADS of fancy-schmancy 2-bed flats so you and the children could sometimes go up with him.

I'm going with 2 friends to an NCT coffee morning. One of the friends is about the same stage of pregnancy as me, the other is about 13 weeks. I made no effort whatsoever when I had DD to make new friends - didn't feel the need tbh - but I think this time it might be nice to try harder. I've always met really nice people at NCT things (I did with the boys anyway) but the few people I've met here seem really boring . I'm hoping that partiular cohort has moved on and been replaced with people who appreciate garlic/fanjo dilemmas and smutty jokes about natural ways of inducing labour

Laura - no news from Neenz. Can't wait to hear from her.

whinegums · 09/05/2008 09:42

Morning all! Rolf - good lord woman, I have just snorted my breakfast over the keyboard at your garlic antics. Good luck with that one, wherever it may be!!

Sun not quite out yet in Glasgow, but think it's on the way. At home this morning as I've got a lunchtime appointment with the dental hygienist again - not pleasant, but prevention better than cure, etc.

Mellymell, that's a bugger for your DH's pat leave, but good he can take hols. Enjoy your last day. Counting down to mine.

What are the benefits of reflexology? Have read other postings about it kick starting labour if overdue, but is it worth going for a session anyway? I was going to book in to the osteopath as well - had a car accident a few years ago and used to go quite regularly, thought it might be worth a visit to check alignment and get straightened out a bit.

Laura, NHS filters, how strange. No news from Neenz yet.

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 10:00

Mellymell -glad you're feeling better about dh's job, I was going to suggest that he tried for a 4 day week, and you've mentioned it.Wouldn't worry about the lack of soap/flowers/towels for your parents they have a bed and your ds to entertain them.

Laura - a long sleep makes all the difference doesn't it.

Makecakes - apart from smelling lovely - how are you feeling?

Rolf - fingers crossed that the group has people like us in it!!

Upsidedowncake · 09/05/2008 10:04

Good morning

Rolf, that is hilarious! I'm sure it must have fallen out - have you told your DH? Perhaps he can have a look with a torch ...? (Sorry)

Tick injections - is that to prevent Lyme disease? How horrid!

Mellymel, glad that you are feeling better about the Manchester thing, and I'm really pleased that he can work at home on Fridays. That will make such a difference. Us Londoners will be here to support you if you need us. Where do you live?

Aberdeen, I'm the same as you with swelling in the heat. I've put on 2 pounds in the last 48 hours, and it can be entirely attributed to water.

Laura, sorry that your DH is abandoning you and going to Sweden for a jolly.

aberdeenhiker · 09/05/2008 10:10

upsidedowncake - thank you for confirming my body hasn't decided to blimp up permanently. A bit of water retention I can handle. (And my feet did fit my shoes again after I had DS).

DS got a tick stuck in his head last summer when hiking/playing with DH one day in the countryside. It was horrid to remove and we were very worried about lyme disease but he never seemed to have any symptoms. Is this what the vaccine is for? If so, I wish we could get it here...

mellymell · 09/05/2008 10:34

Rolf - what about adding some minced beef, tomatos and you could have an entire meal gently cooked in your fanjo - now that would get the medical community talking .

Last day at work today (hums happily) - still can't be bothered to do anything, but must sort out desk, clients etc. Expect to hear from me in 5 mins when I get bored of being sensible!

josey · 09/05/2008 10:36

Rolf PMSL that is soo funny you are very brave admitting it to someone in RL on the school run though doc or no doc

I used the raspleaf tablets 1st time round had a 3.5hour labour 2nd time I used the tea, this time Im using them both as plan getting this child out with a quick fart warning on the tablets though they can constipate as they have quite high Iron level.

Debs think its part and parcel of linen, I end up looking like a lazy cow that cant find her Ironing board.

Ernest you are prob away now but I have TommyTippee monitors and they are fine it the one with the flip up night light.

Aberdeen, how lovely of your DH treating you to a P&T...dont worry about the swelling if you can still get everything on....I actually looked in Argos yesterday to see if I could get a cheap set of rings as I cant even get mine on my pinky.....plus my DH made a gagging sound and the start of my feet and ankles this morning...I have the white fat lumps going on.

Mellymel glad your feeling better today about things.

Gem...word of warning....keep a diary of all the awful things you x has done is doing and make your HV aware when DD is born...I have been through something simialr and wish I had done these things as it was the only thing that would have helped me in court, when he turned into a bigger prat!

You know I didnt sleep very well last night there was a man in my bed taking up my pillow space

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 10:44

LOL Mellymell

Apparently the ticks in the UK carry different diseases, and not all ticks carry a disease. The higher up you are the less ticks so we're not that concerned here but we do travel to lower lying places where they are more prevalent.

A friend we know who was walking in long grass in shorts got one on his testicle - ouch!!

Essie3 · 09/05/2008 11:21

Can't reply to everything (mainly because I'm laughing so hard at Rolf's garlic antics that I can't type properly).
GBS & Garlic, Vampires & Garlic...discuss!

Ikea - I always use Croydon because if you want the third world experience try Wednesbury (awful) and Warrington (died and went to hell). But the best times DH and I found were 11pm Valentine's Day, and FA cup final afternoon.

Mellymel - true what Rolf says, you could get visits up north. I get to go to London and do shopping and stuff but get to live on Anglesey (which is, incidentally, just over an hour from Manchester and has very beautiful beaches!)

Going to get ice cream now, and shopping later. For raspberry leaf tablets/tea - Josey, 3.5 hour labour with first - yes please!

whinegums · 09/05/2008 11:26

Bloomin heck Josey, 3.5 hours, maybe I can handle the vile taste after all. Ended up sticking a nice peppermint and liquorice teabag in with it and it wasn't too bad. Will get the capsules as well I think.

The fifth circle of Hell that is IKEA - I will only go after 6pm on a Monday or Tuesday evening, and it is just about bearable.

Debs - I know someone who got a tick on his knackers as well (in Scotland). Ouch indeed!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/05/2008 11:31

Is it me, or are all the UK Ikea stores in need of a makeover? I used to shop in the Warrington one many, many, many years ago and it was fine then but doesn't sound like it is now! The Edinburgh one is looking really tatty and the cafe is a bit icky. I used to quite happily have a wee bite to eat in there to break up a long shopping stint but I wouldn't even sit down in there now!

Thanks for sharing your garlic story Rolf - absolutely hilarious (although mabye not for you!).

Rasperry tea - what't the general view on when to start taking it? Very confused with all the mixed advice out there.

So much has been posted the last couple of days so sorry to hear of anyone having any tough times.

I've decided to be a bit more cheery today than I was last night. I should count my blessings and stop being so moany. I am a bit p'd off that DH has to go to London for work for two nights about 10 days before my due date but that's clearly not as bad as what some of you are dealing with! He also gets 2 weeks full paid paternity and 2 weeks holiday when the LO arrives so I am very lucky.

Anyway, back to work for now - 2 weeks to go and its starting to drag!

LauraT · 09/05/2008 11:42

Am slowly cooking to death at work, might bring in a thermometer to see how hot it actually is in my office, surely there's an upper limit to what's acceptable? Ice lolly stocks replenished at the shop, but even that isn't helping! Why do they never turn off the heating in hospitals?

I am sure that the high temperatures are why the NHS is so inefficient...

IKEA Glasgow isn't too bad in terms of shabbiness (would you agree whinegums?) However, it is hellish in terms of number of people there and their ability to walk incredibly slowly in front of you while blocking the entire aisle/exit route. We once went on a Sunday afternoon. Never again.

goingfor3 · 09/05/2008 11:43

Morning ladies,

I saw the midwife this morning as she thinks my stomach cramps, backache and lack of appetite could be early labour which is very exciting!!!!! I may go out and get some pineapples to help things get moving. She did say it could still go on for three weeks but the babies head is very low so it's seems unlikely. I must make more of an effort to drink more though as my urine was very concentrated and will try to eat too as I had ketones due to not eating.

LauraT · 09/05/2008 11:45

wow that's exciting g43! maybe you'll be next (assuming that that is where Neenez has gone!)

mellymell · 09/05/2008 11:54

Oh my goodness, the creme eggs are starting to hatch.

Good luck g42 and hopefully we will hear from Neenz soon.

aberdeenhiker · 09/05/2008 11:58

g43 - just checked the list - you're 37 weeks already so I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are in early labour!

I'm definitely way more uncomfortable this week than last week but if it's my body getting ready for labour I'm all for it, unless it plans to get ready for the next 5 weeks!

Lorettah · 09/05/2008 12:01

Morning - ish!

I've read Raspberry tea can be taken from 37 weeks. I've also read that the tea is better than capsules but if the tea tastes rank then capsules might be the best way to go.

I think I'm going to give it a go and see what its like!

Only one week left now in work I can't wait, although I've got loads of building work on my house that's still been done - hopefully the builders wil be out next week - fingers crossed!

xxgemmalou22xx · 09/05/2008 12:09

josey i have already done that i been keeping a pregnancy diary and wrote all about it in there and i have texts off him being a idiot and one he put that because my dates were two days out he thinks the baby wasnt his at that point i just got my period date wrong which was what threw it out so i have all the proof here. I even have texts off his girlfriend giving me abuse and saying hes her babies dad not mine. I have done a edited version for my baby to read where i am not running him down but i got it in my diary so i will never forget it! I am going to contact the CSA when shes born i aint letting him get away with it. Thanks for the tip though it is very wise to do that x

ktpie · 09/05/2008 12:15

G43 - how exciting! Am a bit concerned about early labour going on for 3 weeks!

Lorettah - good luck with the builders, hope they are out on time.

One of my managers has put off checking through a document for me until now, then he will want to go through it with me before I go this afternoon, typical (he has had 2 weeks to do this and has just been pissing about as usual). Luckily my other manager (who I actually report to) knows what is going on and is expecting him to finish off the document himself, as far as she is concerned I have done my bit. Could be an interesting afternoon!

sophiewd · 09/05/2008 12:29

G43 - fingers crossed, keep us updated

bitofadramaqueen · 09/05/2008 12:29

Fingers crossed G43. Keep us updated on your progress. I hope all is going ok with Neenz - its been a couple of days since her last post I think. It's making me very excited hearing about all this hatching. I want to be next! Well, actually, I'm only 34 weeks so I dont want to hatch for at least another 3 weeks but you know what I mean .

Laura - is the Glasgow one (relatively) newish? You'll have all the scruffiness to come! Luckily we live very near Ikea Edinburgh so its easy for us to pop down in the evenings when its quieter. DH might divorce me if I tried to take him at the weekend.

Aberdeen - I'm feeling more uncomfortable now too. I've definitely perfected that pregnancy waddle and I could literally feel my bump stretching last night. The LO was also clearly lying with all its weight on one side which made the stretching worse - I kept trying to (gently) push it over a bit.

ktpie - bloody managers. Try and hide from him till the end of the day, that'll teach him!
