Wow you guys have been busy.

Reflexology - was great last time, I have a freind who does it, it was weird when she said that she could feel the baby down in my instep. Still ended up with a section but my feet felt good.

I too have the cropped maternity jeans in blue and very comfortable they are too.

Ernest - glad you have got yourself booked into a hospital, must be a relief.

Went shopping this afternoon and now exhausted, we have bitten the bullet and going to start potty training DD from tomorrow afternoon, weather is good over the weekend so lots of time in the garden, no nursery on Monday and lots of support from them when she goes again on Tuesday.

Gemma - your mother sounds lovely, my niece is a very young single mum too and has done a fantastic job bringing up her 2 girls who are georgeous.

Relocating to manchester - that sucks.

And to all those not yet able to enjoy the sunshine, I hope it lasts until you manage to get onto ML

systemsaddict · 08/05/2008 19:56

Hi mellymell, v. stressful time for you to get news like that but to reassure you, I work in the academic world and there are loads of people who manage with long-distance or weekly-commute relationships. Sure it's not ideal but it's not the kiss of death either, and trains between Manchester and London are normally pretty good. Any way he could arrange to work 4 days rather than 5 up there, do some from home, whatever?

In the longer term the North West is a lovely area to live in - Manchester and Liverpool are great for urban lifestyle and shopping, the Lakes and Dales great for walking and rural stuff, lots of hidden gems round here, lifestyle cheaper than London, and communications great with rest of country. So do think about it!

makecakesnotwar · 08/05/2008 20:15

Meant to say about raspberry leaf tea that a lady in my NCT class was told that tea was less effective than tablets and capsules....

ErnestTheBavarian · 08/05/2008 20:24

I'm not booked in to anmything yet! Yikes, I meerly have an appointment to go along and talk to some unknown person next Friday, when hopefully, they will be able to book me in, give me a definite date and actaully speak to me. Am rather terrified to be 36 weeks pg with no hospital organised.

Am trying to sort out a baby monitor. The bt one seems to get great reviews, but of course I can't get that. Does anyone havve any tips or suggestions of what to look out for.

Will be off to find Ikea tomorrow to get some curtain material. etc.

upsidedown cake - sympathies re mice. 2nd blocking any holes, get the council and and put all food in sealable containers.

Mellymel, it would be good if your dh could at least wangle 4 days a week and work from home one. I must say I found it really horrible and difficult, especially a bad surprise as I went into it so positively - I thought it was a great solution to our family situation and am pretty independant etc, but it was hard, and it did put a strain on our relationship. It was hard to find time for just us two, we didn't get the chance to talk, it was all a big strain. Hope you can work it out. I'll speak in more detail another time if you want, or CAT me.

My body sems to have decided it's pg . feet suddenly swollen, and skin al of a sudden really white, dry and flakey, all on legs and feet and hands. yuk

char478 · 08/05/2008 20:33

Hi all. Can I join this group? Am new to site but am due 08/06. Have ds1 (2yrs 9mths) and ds2 (14 months).

Upsidedowncake · 08/05/2008 21:31

Welcome CHar. Wow! Lots of LOs already! Tell us some more about yourself. Where are you based? Are you sahm or do you work?

bitofadramaqueen · 08/05/2008 21:32

welcome char!

makecakes I was doing some research on raspberry leaf tea the other day as there seems to be some very confusing advice about when you should/shouldn't take it and a few websites definitely said the tea (as long at was proper leaf tea) was better than the capsules.

josey - I'll be avoiding crops and skirts all summer long I think. While examining my cankles earlier I realised that my calves have reached shocking dimensions. I really hope that I have the energy for some exercise this summer. My exercise free existence of the last year has really taken its toll .

Sorry your body finally succumbing to some rubbish pregnancy symptoms ernest.

Feeling a bit fed up and miserable tonight so think I will go before I spread any doom and gloom.

OP posts:
katyjo · 08/05/2008 22:35

I agree with you Josey raspberry leaf tea tastes much better cold, I keep brewing it and forgetting about it, but prefer it that way.

Haven't even thought what I'm going to wear after pregnancy, having enough trouble working out what to wear now! feeling massive, everything looks massive, arms, cankles, face and bump of course!

xxgemmalou22xx · 08/05/2008 23:23

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 06:29

Morning everyone

No chance of me catching up and replying individually to all of yesterdays posts, so welcome Char, sorry about paternitly leave/relocation/mice/feet/ problems.

Yesterday was a busy day , I was happily painting outside then remembered we had appointments for tick injections(in some lower parts of Austria ticks carry a really horrible disease) - rthe advice is for all to have th injections but so far they're not on Austria's equivalent to National health - so it cost us a total of over £100 for the 4 of us yesterday and will be the same again to pay out when we go back for the 2nd appointment next month. My appointment is 3rd June and baby's due on 7th!

Then Boys were invited to play at a friends house, went at 2.00 and didn't get back here until 9.00, after their Mum decided to feed all of us ! So that was nice.

Today - more painting, washing and still not booked up for our break next week, after dh walked with me yesterday he thinks we need somewhere flat not hilly, and he wonders why pushchairs don't have the capability to convert into a wheelchair for heavily pregnant mums - he thought it would be quite easy to push me around next week instead!!!

Hope everyone else is OK, looks another lovely day here, is it still hot in the UK?

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 06:31

ps I have some linen trousers too but they look like a dishcloth after about 10 minutes of wearing them - is there any trick? My mat jeans are now too tight round the bump - think I'll be goig out wearing a quilt cover by the end of it!!

anyone heard from Neenz?

Rolf · 09/05/2008 06:42

I've lost the fucking garlic. shit shit shit shit

I'm never trying home remedies again - I'm so embarassed. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve calling the midwife and having her fishing around in my fanjo?

ErnestTheBavarian · 09/05/2008 07:39

oo, rolf, whereabouts have you lost that garlic

c'mon you lot, going out soon, monitor tips pls

welcome char

Talking of mice - my cat's just brought one back! Yuk. Luckily I spotted it, so she couldn't bring it in, then I interfered with nature by distracting her, thus letting said mouse escape, and then grabbed cat and she's now locked in, looking very crossly at me..

Deb - my boys got the Tick injections too - they had to have 3, is that the same for you? They only advised us to get the kids done tho, or rather I just got them done at the Kinderarzt, and din't think to ask about us grown ups. I thinks they only do it from age 6, so only ds1 & 2 done.

Anakin Skywalker Ghost (aka ds3) is unprotected, but I'm sure his light sabre, plus the force of course, will save him.

I am squeezed into a pair of sil white linen trousers, hoping to still look incredibly elegant when I go to impres all the international yummy mummies at the school later. But alas, I fear I will look like a huge fat beached wale in a dish cloth/shroud

Maybe I'll just avoid sitting all day?

Hope German Ikea is civilised like swiss one, and not as barbaric as I remember the croydon one.

Am how big my feet have suddenly swelled. I thought I'd got away with it. After ds1, and then ds2 I had to chuck out all of my shoes! And now I can only fit into 2 pairs, so praying it's not permanent this time, as it's a very expensive exercise, not to mention time consuming, to replace every item. I had some lovely little black ballet pumps with a white trim which look perfect with my swish white dishcloth linen trousers and black and white top, and I can't wear them.

Rolf · 09/05/2008 07:42

Don't know anything about monitors, sorry Ernest.

I'd been told by several people that a way of getting rid of GBS is for 3 nights to use a garlic pessary. You sew thread through a garlic clove (like a tampon) and insert it a couple of inches in your fanjo. The first night I did it was last night and now I can't find the thread or the garlic . It could have fallen out during one of my many trips to the loo but our bathroom light is broken so it was dark and I didn't see.

I feel like such a pillock.

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 08:02

Ernest - sorry don't have any idea about monitors, we have a very old one that we're going to use again. Ikea in Austria is very civilised and we have been to one near Munich which was busier but nowhere near UK Ikeas.
Good luck with the dishcloth linen trousers.

Rolf, I don't know what to suggest re the garlic, sounds like it may have just slipped out in the night!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 09/05/2008 08:03

rolf, Rolf well, if you go to the midwives or docs, at least it'll given them a great anecdote they can use, for literlly years to come SOrry, not helpful. It almost certainly has just dropped out, if that's any concellation. Maybe this will shake the medical establishment enough to realise they need to review their GBS policy?

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 08:17

Rolf - surely after having 3 children - how are you expected to keep a tiny garlic clove up there overnight, you probably just coughed it out!! Sorry that is a bit cheeky!!

Rolf · 09/05/2008 08:24

Deb and Ernest - I love it how the other mothers of 3 have the same reaction about the holding capacity of my fanjo . I think you're probably right. I'll have a bath and see if that flushes anything out. Otherwise I don't think I can face calling the midwife as she knows me well enough to laugh at me.

ErnestTheBavarian · 09/05/2008 08:32

Try the whole bulb next time?

poppy34 · 09/05/2008 08:34

wow - you don't look for a few days and sooo many posts I can't keep up.

rolf - rofl re teh garlic, I am sure its fallen out rather than being a source of likely embarassment to you on next m/w visit.

Ernest good luck in ikea.. was pleasantly surprised at how nice French one was - brent park one no better than croydon.. I've never been there where there isn't some incident round the tills about dodgy cards or people trying to pay in used notes.

Not much to tell - having a day's holiday today which is just as well as done in - 2 weeks before I pack in work and suddenly very busy. Shame its not quite so nice today -maybe it will cheer up later. Am compiling my list of bits to get for my hospital bag - will be scouring the old threads for the ideas on that

debinaustria · 09/05/2008 08:43

the word fanjo in German obviously means something different.scroll down the page to the bottom.

ErnestTheBavarian · 09/05/2008 08:52

c'mon deb, be honest, you're going for the fanjo package, aren't you

Fanjo is a brand of shower gel etc in switzerland if that helps?

Off to ikea now tschüss

aberdeenhiker · 09/05/2008 08:55

rolf - surely you could find it if it was still in there... am laughing with you on this one!

I've sent DH to get raspberry leaf tea today (he works in the city centre) and he surprised me buy buying us a Phil&Ted buggy yesterday. It's a bit of a relief to think that I don't have to manage with just a buggy board.

I'd better be swelling up, although my shoes and my rings still seem to fit, as my weight is jumping up a pound every other day! I'm seriously not eating enough food to justify that - and even though I'm thirsty and drinking tons of water, I'm hardly peeing so it must just be absorbed right?

ktpie · 09/05/2008 09:00

Morning everyone, Debs - just been having a chuckle at that website, I wonder what they are trying to say?

Rolf - good luck with the garlic, hope it shows up sometime soon.

Josey - I have the same linen trousers from Next, am wearing them now, had the foresight to buy them back at easter so have already had quite a bit of wear out of them.

I've also invested a couple of quid in some summer maternity dresses from ebay (surprise surprise), one arrived yesterday, not sure I would be seen out of the house in it but it will be great for sitting around in the garden sweltering.

Have fun in Ikea Ernest, we live about 5 mins away from our local one so we always pick strange times to go when it's nice and quiet. Otherwise DH has no time for dawdlers in Ikea and rams the trolley into anyone who dares to slow down in his way, I spend my time apologising to everyone so best for both of us to go when it's quiet!

My DH is getting one week of paternity on full pay and could have taken another week on statutary but has loads of holiday left so is just going for the one week.

My last day at work today! Feeling very cheerful!

Right will stop rambling now!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/05/2008 09:03

Morning all. Nearly the weekend thankfully! Its nice here in Edinburgh today.

Ordered some linen trousers from mamas and papas last night to cheer myself up - chocolate brown ones though, not brave enough for white!

Desperately hoping that my feet swelling isn't permanent - I have a LOT of shoes!!!! They've usually gone down again by the morning though so feeling confident its temporary. Am currently ruining a pair of super cute pumps though as they are the only thing half way respectable that fits and I can wear to work.
