LOL Sazzles, I'm sure s/he could do with taking down a peg or two.

This week's top tip for hospital bags: Stick a brand new toothbrush and toothpaste in your shopping trolley and bung them straight into your bag when you get home.

Asked DS what we should call the new baby and he, in a rare moment of conversational sociability, delightedly cried 'Rocketboy!' Not totally unexpected given his rocketship obsession but rather cute I thought. Henceforth, this bump is to be known as such .

pertelote · 22/05/2008 19:51

Hi all. Hurrah for the classical name Oopsacoconut! And I'm guessing the opera was the Monteverdi, love it. We have been playing with the idea of Poppy too as we're pretty sure Bump was conceived on Remembrance Sunday but we are still at the stage of throwing everything into the ring rather than making an actual decision!

I sympathise with the public transport woes. On the tube I generally get a seat straightaway about 80% of the time - but if I don't I get so ! Once or twice another woman has made someone get up for me which tickles me - one just waved her hand under a guy's nose to get his attention and pointed at my bump until he got the message . It's funny, I've done the same in the past but I've never yet been brave enough to ask on my own behalf. It was the bus that wound me up today, though, the driver didn't stop at my stop so I had twice as far to walk home! There were loads of us ringing the bell, asking him to stop etc but he was oblivious. Luckily I find that just as little things like that upset me terribly these days, little things like a sit down with a good book and a cup of tea, watching the baby kick, cheer me up again wonderfully!

TwilightSurfer · 22/05/2008 20:42

Pregnancy1 this is going to sound "off the wall" BUT check the iron levels in any and all available children's CHEWABLE vitamins before suffering through what you've been prescribed. For example (in the US) CHILDRENS FLINTSTONES COMPLETE contains 18mg per tablet which (in the US) is 100% of the daily recommended. Take two and you're getting twice the amount. Since the vitamins are chewable they are "water-soluble" which makes them easier to digest and less likely to cause a system back-up. I'm 37 and have been taking childrens chewables for my entire life. All my doctors have approved although a few had to exam them first....only to be amazed that they contain everything an adult needs daily. They are also less expensive and TASTY.

Great choice of name oopsacoconut (can't remember if I said that already). DP surprised me the other day by coming out with Alexei as a possible - I like it, so it's on the list as well. He was less impressed with my suggestion of Joseph

dizzydixies · 22/05/2008 22:35

dancerandprancer I passed whale weeks ago, am now on full blown blimp mode

buckets am LOVING rocketboy

the toothbrush/paste thing is a good idea but remember superdrug/tesco etc are doing the wee travel bottles of stuff too

take cheapy flip flops for wearing in ward showers AND a toilet bag with a hanging bit so you can put your shampoo etc in it for in the shower and you won't have to bend to reach it

LadyOfWaffle · 22/05/2008 22:41

Evening all! A few quiet moments to catch up, feeling abit too agitated (sp?) to sleep (it's early for me anyway but it feels really late because DH had to go to bed straight away as he is getting up at 2.50 am to go to work) While I catch up hopefully someone around the same due date has written how far gone they are -I have totally lost track, stab in the dark i'd say I am 29 weeks tomorrow (??). I really honestly cannot believe how fast this has flown by, I am still not packed, the baby things are dotted around the garage, my mums house and who knows where else but I can't get ready because of all the building work [moan][moan] Only 11 weeks left - that is so scary!

LadyOfWaffle · 22/05/2008 23:17

Phew, caught up on today anyway

Whoever is ironing duvets is bonkers - mine has only just been washed today in who knows how long - am treating myself to a new one (and non pancake pillows ) when this stupid house is done. Unless you meant duvet covers? In which case you are still bonkers

Sarahnh - DS has given up his naps too (most days) - it's great when it works as he is conked out at 6.30 ish, but then up at 6 ish, but I think it's better than him not going to bed until 10pm (like tonight as he fell asleep in the car earlier!) and waking at 9ish. It's such hard going at the mo. getting his sleep sorted - I have been waffling on about it since thread no.1 I think! DH has taken to snoring aswell - he used to occasionally, now he does it every night, and even worse he groans alot. Usually he just needs to adjust his position, but my word it's annoying. For sore hips try a bump band thing, they do actually take the pressure off quite well. I can't wear mine because it makes my maternity trousers fall down even more so than they do now! As for hunger - last pregnancy I was eating so so much, well, eating less but twice as often. And I'd need maybe 2 snacks a night! This time it's not so bad for some reason, maybe it kicks in abit later.

SKYTV - DS measured small last time but was fine in the scans. Well, he came out a little small at 6lbs6, but I was lagging quite a few weeks measurement wise. This time I go from looking bigger when baby is more curled (I think) to looking smaller when baby must be more spread out - so I guess my measurements will depend on babys position more than anything at the next appointment Our sonographer did the same last time aswell, said something like "ok, I'll measure her something or other now" - DH missed it ( I think , or he is doing the same as me) so I am keeping quiet about it so at least he gets a suprise. I do think they must use it generally though, it's hard to say " ok, i'll measure its x,y,z now" without sounding abit... clinical (?). That's what I am telling myself anyway! I am convinced though (even from before) it's a girl this time.

Shazza - don't worry about speaking up on the train - I wish I had your balls! I am still reeling from a 3 odd hour train journey to Wales when I was 39 weeks pregnant with DS - it coincided with everyone being unleashed from Crufts and the train was packed with people and their dogs but not one person offered me their seat - they just sat and looked at me sat in the corridor on the floor for 3 hours. Ooooh, I can't even catch a glimpse of Crufts on TV now without growling.

Buckets - you're right about sobbing fits, I keep bursting into tears at the mo., or even worse - snapping. I never ever snap and I have done at least 5 times this pregnancy. I think it's tiredness more than anything though (she says while mumsnetting at 11pm!) Love Rocketboy by the way! I tried to explain to DS (2.2) by pointing at my tummy and saying "baby", but he just starting pulling up my top and saying "gone!?" with a puzzled look on his face! Obviously abit young to understand, but very cute!

Pregnancy1 - poor you on iron tablets. TBH after last time (was on max. dose after giving birth to DS) I don't think I could touch them with a barge pole - when I finally did poo it was forest green (sorry TMI!) [boak] but on the other hand it did shoot my iron levels up so I could actually walk a few meters without passing out! MW suggested Guinness (great to have an excuse!) so I drank about 1/2 pint - pint a day and ate tons of spinach and drank tons of orange juice which was alot nicer than the tablets I know I'll have to go through the same this time, I always seem to get aneamic (sp?) very quickly. Funny you were craving citrus though, last time I wasn't but this time I really really am! DH wanted a takeaway tonight but I can't stomach crap at the moment - all I wanted was a bowl of melon, pineapple, orange etc. I was getting through tons of orange juice aswell but have to cut back as DS has started to learn all about "Juice!" and tries to get into the fridge

Cyteen - I love Alexei - is it for a boy? I always liked it for a boy but a good friend has recently named her daughter it so had to cross it off the list. Love Joseph too

pregnancy1 · 23/05/2008 08:45

Morning everyone,

Glad it's not just me who gets overly upset by tiny things. There is a temp in our office who is doing my nut in.... we have a coat stand with 8 prongs on which to hang your coat. I get in first and am the only one with a coat up on the stand and every morning she comes in and puts her coat on the same prong. it's so silly but it drives me mad - when I go to lunch I have to take her coat off before I can get to mine despite there being 7 other empty prongs. She then does it again after lunch so I have to move hers again when I go home. grrrr. I can't believe it annoys me so

Had a thought for hospital bags - Clarins are giving away free trial sizes of most of their products so I was going to go and get little bottles of all my regular moisturisers/facewash etc for my bag. They're only tiny, but should do a day or 2. They are doing it at all the major dept stores and Boots etc (I even got a set for my mum - asking for products for a woman in her late 50s).

pregnancy1 · 23/05/2008 08:48

OH MY GAWD. She's just done it again.... of all the coat stands in all the world.....

Buckets · 23/05/2008 09:47

Just move hers on to an opposite prong next time you go past it. So she has to look a bit harder to find hers and might get the message to see that someone has actually moved hers (well, you never know ).

Cake sale at school today!!! Fingers crossed DS falls asleep on the way to pick up DD so I can hide the pushchair in the loos and make a run for the cakes (BIG Blue-cross-sale-type scrum). Daft really because I donated a lovely home-made almond cake for it this mornign - might as well have saved myself the hassle and eaten that! Last time I only managed to nab a crappy Tesco budget sponge, bah.

cyteen · 23/05/2008 10:07

LOW, hello! Good to hear from you. Yes, Alexei would be for a boy in our case - I do like it a lot, so it's a strong contender. I really like Joseph but DP's not so keen, think he thinks it's a bit blah. He suggested Sebastian as well which is alright but secretly I think it's a bit poncey for us

I must apologise, but I'm really laughing at the specificity of your forest green poo! Did you get the Dulux colour chart out to compare?

pregnancy1 - what a freak! That would drive me mad as well, why, why, WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY? Just throw her coat on the floor and blame your hormones

I'm so shattered today - the walk into work from our new place is taking its toll, although we have found a nice quieter route for part of it, which is better (less main road action). Got to go back to the old house to pick up my cake tins this afternoon, so I can make banana cake for my antenatal classes tomorrow. For some reason I feel compelled to show off my baking skillz - can't believe the competitive motherhood gene is kicking in this early!

oopsacoconut · 23/05/2008 10:25

Pregnancy1 - why not start a game - put yours on a different peg everyday and see if she follows if she does move hers to the furthest peg from your and see if she gets the hint!

LOW - your poo story has made me decide not to see the m/w about my inability to walk up the stairs without sounding like an asthmatic ant carrying heavy shopping - will wait until next routine appointment.

Went to see local nursery shop about mountain buggy packages and they never returned our calls so DH's dad went in today and complained about their customer service and got us a 30% discount on anything we order from them in the next 6 months

Our NCT classes start on the 2nd June 3 hours every monday for 4 weeks.

Supposed to be baking for school cake sale today for my little charges but took the day off as i just cannot function on 4 hours sleep and working 56 hours in a row.

Going to sleep now.

oopsacoconut · 23/05/2008 10:27

Forgot to say Cyteen love the name Alexei and Joseph strangely DH didn't like Joseph either.

poppysocks · 23/05/2008 10:54

Blimey this thread moves fast! It's taken me two sittings to catch up! Glad all is well though (barring some spontaneous tears and rude tube travellers).

Glad (in the nicest possible way...) that others are feeling like beached whales too. CANNOT believe how enormous I am and feel. Def. having to sit forward to take a good big breath every 5 mins or so as everything's so squished. I think being on hols has made me notice it more as I'm not so busy. Not helped by my dear old Granny asking when the baby's due and on my saying August, she replied "Really? You are awfully big darling. Are you sure?" Grrr.

Having a lovely hol though. So nice to have time to just lie still and feel and see the baby thump. DD has too and is mystified and addicted in equal measure and now wants to get at the bump at every available opportunity!

cyteen · 23/05/2008 11:13

Ooh, you're on holiday poppysocks - x 1000! Glad you're relaxing though. Lately people have been asking me how far along I am and looking shocked when I say I'm 26 weeks, so maybe I'm more massive than I thought. Am feeling a bit ungainly and can't really bend forward to tie my shoelaces too well anymore, plus am starting to get out of breath even when lying down - the shame

pregnancy1 · 23/05/2008 11:22

Oh yes, me too. If one more person asks me when I'm leaving and looks shocked when I let them know that I'm only 27 weeks (plus 6, but obv no-one who's not pregnant cares about the plus 6)..... I'm wearing a H&M maternity shirt in my usual size (m) and it's straining at the seams! All my other maternity stuff is fine, but this shirt is making me feel like a right heff.
I can't remember the last time I felt comfortable near my feet - went for a pedicure a couple of weeks ago when it was warm enough to wear flip flops. Asked DH to paint my toenails for me and he suggested I get them done!

Ah, can't wait for 3 days off....

Anyone got any fab plans for the BH w/e?

cyteen · 23/05/2008 11:28

BH weekend plans: antenatal classes 10-4 Sat and Sun, with Highway Code revision and more moving of stuff between houses fitted around them

I will be so glad when May is over! What are you up to pg1?

LadyOfWaffle · 23/05/2008 11:54

Pregnancy1 - try and get a sample bottle of their err... no idea what it is, but it is pale greeny blue and when you put it on your legs it tingles. I had some last time and it was heaven.

All these cake sales, I remember when I was younger I made a cake and spend hours sculpting icing swans and then crying because they only put £3 on it (I was about 8!)

I hope my story isn't going to cause a big anaemia epidemic!

VintageGardenia · 23/05/2008 12:15

Ooo we don't get bank hol in Ireland till the following weekend!

I keep being embarrassed when people ask how long I have left, I think they are expecting me to say "Oh about 5 days" because when I say another two months their jaws fall slack and their eyes drift over my vast bulk.

Woman at work said to me about my hospital notes "Oh you know they make most of it up, half the things they write down they make up."

I said "What, you mean even my pulse or the baby's feeding etc" and she said "Yes, they don't check the baby half the time so they just make it up." I was a bit but luckily it was in my half hour of "up" rather than my 23.5 hours of sob-on-demand.

Saw fab play this week, The Seafarer, premiering here at mo, it's by Conor McPherson. Getting my arts fixes while I can!

VintageGardenia · 23/05/2008 12:16

Sorry that notes story was pretty dull actually.

Buckets · 23/05/2008 13:02

DH is seeing Paul Weller at Hammersmith tonight, won't be back until lunch tomorrow (taking the car.) I have volunteered him and my dad to to take our huge amounts of crap to the dump in the afternoon (in 2 cars probably) so I will be stuck with the kids and no car again most of tomorrow. I NEEEEEEEED to get my eyebrows done and look for wedding shoes/hat/handbag and buy some birthday presents for DD (she's 5 on Tues while we're camping.) Tues is also our 8th wedding anniversary so it would be nice to at least buy some fancy chocolate to share with for DH.

pregnancy1 · 23/05/2008 13:07

Oh VG, I love Conor McPherson plays (he did the Weir and a couple of others didn't he? Might just be pregnancy jelly brain if I've got that completely wrong)- will watch out for that. Thanks!

Cyteen - v impressed with the ante-natal classes, our NHS ones don't start until the week after next and then our NCT ones a couple of weeks later. I'm going for a 4d scan tomorrow - so excited. Bringing mum and dad too. We're then going shopping - plan to order lots of stuff for baby. Picked it all out ages ago, but have been waiting until week 28 (tomorrow) so I can order it for delivery at week 36. eeeeek (little squeal of excitement).

Right, off to meetings for the rest of the afternoon, so have great weekends if I don't pop on over the w/e. xxx

oopsacoconut · 23/05/2008 19:21

Just a quickie to say - have you seen there's a Feb 2009 thread already

have a fab bank holiday weekend.
