cyteen · 08/05/2008 10:45

Hey girls, going to attempt to catch up - have been enjoying looking at everyone's wedding pictures and hearing about all the different ceremonies. I love weddings We're planning to get married at some point; DP already knows I will say yes, but is still insistent that he wants to ask me and take me by surprise, bless him.

miamla I am v impressed at your towering height. I come from a family of shorties (am taller than both my dad and my nan, at a staggering 5'4", lol) so my kid will probably be totally average, height-wise. Some tall friends of ours have a 6 month old girl who is very long - they keep having to cut the feet off her babygros so she can fit in them!

TS my best wishes to your family re. your gran's passing - I hope it is peaceful for everyone.

Hello again petit and pertelote

Enjoy your night out dizzy, and don't forget to laugh at all the drunk people.

IlanaK I am also v of your holiday and your new chair

Looks like it's my turn to worry today - I haven't felt the baby move this morning which is quite unusual as he generally can be relied upon to wake up and start kicking first thing in the morning. I tried resting my hot cup of tea on my belly earlier and had a prod of the bump, but no joy yet Am at work now and really not accomplishing anything. I rang my midwife who said that at 24 weeks the baby is still small enough that many movements can go undetected, and that they do also change their pattern as well, which has reassured my head but not my heart iyswim...she said to try the usual tricks (lie down, cold drink etc) and if I haven't felt anything by mid-afternoon to ring the community mw team.

Wake up baby!

TwilightSurfer · 08/05/2008 11:53

I think our babies are just playing hide-n-seek with us. Mine did move around some when I laid down last night. Not the usual BANG BANG BANG, just some thumps here and there. This morning about 4am I felt one or two more light thumps. Nothing to brag about. And definitely nothing like early in the week.

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 08/05/2008 12:28

Yes, that's just like i had the other day cyteen. Baby did move around later on, but deffo had a quiet day. I hadn't noticed quiet days before so it shocked em a bit. Try a cold can of coke or something - the cold, teh sweetness, and lying down should shock baby inot having a dance!

My dh is bieng a superstar today. He said he was taking the day semi off - he's been working really hard lately, and after being off with stress at the start of the year is trying to be careful with himself. He was going into london to see a film. I asked him to see if he had time to do a few bits for me, and bless him he has. He's gone to John Lewis and gott dd's Rainbow uniform, and been to M and S and found me some more summery matrnity trousers. Bless him. Told him mothercare or m and s would work (i need short fitting so know those places have what i need) - and he's got me a pair of cropped trousers - appar they are not short length officially but he says they look shortish and as long as they're cooler than my jeans and trackie bottoms i'll be happy..... Have to see if they fit etc, but, aw, he's lovely

cyteen · 08/05/2008 12:51

Aw, thanks ladies I'm sure you're right - he has been going absolutely crazy the last few days, so perhaps he's just tired himself out. The sugary drink I had for my GTT sent him bananas ALL DAY on Tuesday Anyway, I think I have been feeling some lighter movements the last hour or so, but am going to get an Orange Lucozade and try shock tactics.

Also feeling a bit cheerier as have just checked my balance (with great trepidation) and discovered that actually I've been doing much better the last two months than I thought. Hooray! I'm off out to catch some rays and buy something nice for tea

poppysocks · 08/05/2008 14:23

Hope you're feeling reassured now cyteen. My bump's also having a quiet few days. Not worried as there are the occasional nudges, but like lots of you, nothing like last week. What was it about last week?!

Lots of lovely wedding photos. Ours were a disaster as a. we both hate having our photos taken and b. we had a small do not long after DD was born and having been worried about not losing baby weight, I ended up not being able to stop it falling off and my dress was baggy, to put it politely. Great problem to have, timing rubbish! Other than that though, it was great. Tuscany, early evening, small Church do followed by 8 course meal under the vines accompanied by ridiculous quantities of gorgeous wine from the surrounding fields. Not what my mother wanted, but very us!

Just waiting for news from my sis, who's having her 12 week scan this afternoon. Seems like ages ago that we were all there doesn't it?!

cyteen · 08/05/2008 14:31

Not what your mother wanted? That wedding sounds like paradise poppysocks, how could it not be what everyone wanted?

Hope you get good news from your sis. It certainly does seem like an age ago. I was still using another baby+parenting website back then!

So glad I made the jump - here is much better

poppysocks · 08/05/2008 14:46

Most sceptics were won over the laidback-ness of it all but I guess she was disappointed by not having it on her turf surrounded by her family and friends. Helped that my sis doing it 'properly' not long afterwards though. Bless her! Horses for courses and all that.

poppysocks · 08/05/2008 14:48

Please excuse my grammar... Helped by...

dizzydixies · 08/05/2008 16:40

poppysocks sigh, I now wish I had your wedding lol

not been as busy today, was in town having a look for something for the wedding and sorting kilt for my dh - I LOVE dh in a kilt - yum yum will have to try to keep him away from the free bar - ha! nae chance of that

girls out in the garden, I've come in as I am incapable of not doing something and I don't want to be too knackered for tonight

cannot believe am going out for a meal, its been ages and not sure I'll remember how to behave lol

hope all cheeky/sneaky babies now knocking lumps out of you all

hair and nails tomorrow and then off up to the castle so if I don't speak to you CC have a wonderful holiday

Buckets · 08/05/2008 17:40

Hi all
DS got diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome today, which was not a surprise (although after the interview yesterday DH & I were thinking we'd made him sound pretty normal!) I was a lot less upset than I thought, cried a little bit when we were on our own. Think it's just the finality of diagnosis, being a watershed in our lives and having any fantasies of things magically becoming normal, that is upsetting. But I've done so much research over the last year (mostly on MN and talking to other mums online LOL) and kind of did my grieving for the DS that never actually existed last year, so I don't think I could have been any more prepared than I was. DH says he's happy for me to do all the thinking etc and tell him what to feel as I'm better informed! How lazy is that LOL?
Longterm I'm fine about it, he will be fine, better than most adults with AS in fact as most of them are still undiagnosed, let alone having help from the age of 3 like DS will. And I am now even more convinced that my Dad has AS so we have a wonderful role model in him - I'm sure he would reckon he and DS are the next phase of human evolution LOL. I think that's the way to play it really, X-men style.
Have a hundred cuddly toys to name and label tonight for pre-school fete (it's complicated )but will try and pop back on later to catch up.

cyteen · 08/05/2008 17:53

I'm really glad for you all that you have a diagnosis Buckets Obviously in an ideal world no one would need one, but in my very limited experience having undiagnosed difficulties is so much harder, practically AND emotionally, for families to cope with. Now you can all start to move forward in the way that you know is best for your DS. Onward and upward!

HazieDazieandBaby · 08/05/2008 19:46

Hope your little one is kicking you like mad now cyteen! I've had a few quiet days too where I panic and prod my tummy like mad for a response, but he's usually back to normal and going crazy the next day!

Glad to hear that you got a diagnosis Buckets, it must be a relief to know exactly what's going on now and at least you were a bit prepared beforehand as you had thought about AS before. It must be good to be able to move forward and like you say, he'll have support from age 3. Oh, and I hope you have fun with your labelling, sounds good!

Hope everything went well with your sister's scan poppysocks. It's funny you said that about thinking back to being 12wks preg. I still have a 'due Aug 2008' thread saved under the 'threads I'm watching bit' and was reading through it earlier. It's weird to think back then (round about Jan)that we were worrying about not feeling or looking pregnant and waiting on our 12wk scan dates to come in!

Enjoy your meal tonight dizzy! Eating out 3 nights in a row? You go girl! Hope you have a great time at the wedding too, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a gorgeous day so that you can relax and not stress over muddy dresses courtesy of your DDs!

And enjoy your holiday CaptainCaveman! I don't suppose you'll get much of a chance to be on MN between now and when you go away so thought I get my 'bye bye' in now! I'm sure you'll have a fab time, be sure to make us all jealous with your tales when you come back!

Quick question for you all, I've got a wedding coming up in July and have seen this dress, which I really like, but I'm not sure what the opinion is on wearing a white dress at a wedding? I'm sure I've heard that it's a no-no, but I'd wear a different coloured bag, wrap, shoes, etc. so would it be okay in that case? I'm really bad at all these etiquette type things so need some major help before I splash out!

poppysocks · 08/05/2008 21:19

Glad that you're feeling positive Buckets. As others have said, getting the diagnosis at this stage can only be a good thing for your DS.

My sister's scan went really well. I'm going to be an auntie!

Have a fab holiday CC and a great night out Dizzy. I went out three nights in a row last weekend. Haven't managed that since before DD was born!

Hazie - I'm not sure on etiquette either, but the dress is gorgeous. You will wow them all!

cyteen · 08/05/2008 22:19

Hazie, that dress is lovely - very modern I think things have relaxed a lot re. wearing white. My best friend wore a white trouser suit to a friend's wedding a few years ago and looked very stylish, although the bride was in midnight blue so it wasn't the most traditional set-up. How well do you know the bride? If you're worried, you could check with her and see how she feels and how traditional the whole thing is going to be...on the whole though, I don't think it's an issue anymore (unless you turn up in a lacy meringue ).

Besides, dress that dress up with some bright colourful accessories and you won't 'just' be in white.

TwilightSurfer · 08/05/2008 22:27

Buckets, good news!! Asperger's is a highly functional group. Honestly I think many are blooming brilliant. Socially, yes, there can be some issues but if you're going to have something from the spectrum....I'd say that's not a bad diagnosis at all. Sounds like you've got an ace in your pocket if you think you dad might technically have it as well. You'll be totally prepared. It's the fact you KNOW now that will allow you to relax and allow your son to bloom into a spectacular guy, with excellent guideance.

Poppy splendid news about your sister!!

Hazie, I think that dress is perfect and is probably more cream than white...there's no faux pas with that. Paired with a beautiful hat, they'll think you're royalty.

Cyteen my little one's been moving around but not kicking today. I'd say that counts as good. How's yours?

Dizzy...CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PICTURES from this WEEKEND!!! Just wanted to remind you again.

Captain's probably flying over Florida about now, ready to land. She'll be met with spotty showers but it will be hot hot hot the whole time.

Got my OB/GYN appt bumped up to 10:15am tomorrow. My sinus thing is about to drive me insane. I'm pulling out all the stops and begging for SOMETHING...ANYTHING to help me overcome all this congestion (which by the way has move from my chest to my head....totally opposite of all normal sinus infections).

OP posts:
cyteen · 08/05/2008 22:55

TS, my little squid has been very sedate all afternoon but has just given me a few solid thumps to let me know he's still here Hope you get some relief from your congestion, that doesn't sound like much fun.

TwilightSurfer · 09/05/2008 11:03

Wouldn't you know it. I wake up not feeling have as congested as I've felt all week. WTF!! I can't go into the doctor sick to PROVE how bad things are???? {{twilight asks the gift horse}}

Cyteen glad you got a thump. Last night (while I was suppose to be sleeping) I could feel flutters and stuff. I think things are starting to get tight in there so the baby has less room to give the belly a full SWING. Just guessing...I'll be asking the doc about it today. He better have his shit together and not be all dreamy eyed over his newborn birth set for Monday....I've got QUESTIONS to be answered. I'm also going to bring up the spotting from last Sunday. He'll probably give a lecture for not phoning. Oh well.

Catch you ladies later.

longwayfromhome · 09/05/2008 13:28

TS, glad that you are feeling better from the cold, thinking about you with your gran in the coming days. Buckets, this sounds sad, but not a big shock, and a positive step forwards, I am glad that things sound OK for you all at the moment.

ALBS, John Sentamu took your wedding? Wow. That'll be a story for the grandchildren!

Clearly only the transatlantic contingent are on-line this morning. I'm waiting in for the fridge man at the moment, and then out later on, but did have a lie in today, which was nice, and am wearing very comfortable, yet stylish, maternity jeans, hurrah!

PetitFilou1 · 09/05/2008 13:56

Hello all
Just nipping in to say thanks to libbysister for recommending abbey meadows in abingdon to go to. The dcs had a lovely time - beautiful weather - and they will really enjoy the water fountains once they are up and running again. Can't believe I have to start work again next week(Bah humbug)

Buckets - Glad you have a diagnosis for your ds. Must have been hard - like you say a watershed - but at least he will get the right help now.

Hazie I think that dress is lovely and provided you wear some colour with it I think you will get away with it. I would still email the bride a picture though in case she does object. I assume she is not pregnant too! My mil wore black to our wedding - dh was not impressed! She did threaten not to come at various points (we didn't have a top table due to complications around both having divorced parents and we refused to invite some random second cousin of hers - we paid for the whole thing, 120 guests and all - why should we!) Anyway, I think the general etiquette is no white but I would have personally have been fine with you in that dress so I'd just ask.

VintageGardenia · 09/05/2008 14:20

Hi guys, AWOL for a bit. Well, not WOL, was on holiday & back in the thick of things now. Was lovely but strangely have come back really shattered. Swam 30 lengths this morning (only a 25m pool) and was so wrecked went to sleep for 2 hours! Lucky I wasn't working today, would have caused a few I think.

Buckets it must be a load off your mind to have your DS's diagnosis - not knowing, guessing, wondering, can all be so hugely stressful and tiring. At least now you've something specific to focus your research / reading on and with help will be able to come up with the various strategies for you, DS and the rest of the family. I don't know a huge amount about AS, though I have taught a few youngsters with it (late teens though). I am assuming there's a lot of support in the UK?

CC bon voyage & happy hols if you've not already left.

pertelote is your name to do with Chanticleer? Childhood bell ringing...

TS glad your spotting was nothing, miamla you poor duck what horrors you've been through. So happy you can now celebrate being in the third trimester! Well done Pip.

HazieDazie I've been ogling that dress for weeks but have no occasion for it! It comes in lovely pinks too if the bride did object to white, but to be honest I think she'd be a bit Bridezilla-ish if she did.

Everyone else, hello, not ignoring, just in the usual rush. dizzy your castle looks fantabulosa! Lucky duck.

VintageGardenia · 09/05/2008 14:23

ALBS I'm not 100 per cent up with UK church stuff but isn't John Sentamu the one who played the drums at his investiture (right word?) as AB of Y? I always thought that was so cool.

pertelote · 09/05/2008 16:15

Hullo all.

Buckets, like you say, although it must feel sad today, in the long run it's great to have a firm diagnosis for your DS. We have a friend who was diagnosed with AS in our first year at uni - he has just got his PhD and although not everyone finds him 'easy' at first, in our social circle he's a bit of a star...

VG, spot on, good memory there for a pregnant lady! My adoption of the name involves an ex boyfriend who was a member of a club called the Roosters... we've all moved on a LONG way since then but the name has stuck for all my internet doings!

Right, it's much too nice a day to waste an afternoon off sitting in front of the computer, I'm going to sit in the garden and eat ice cream... Hope you all have equally nice plans for the rest of the day.

VintageGardenia · 09/05/2008 18:28

Well we had misty rain today and rain all night, but in a lovely drifty springysummery kind of way, not the type to depress, and the garden looks all fresh and green. Might put paid to plans to mow the -lawn- grass at weekend though.

We are doing a pregnancy/labour yoga class for couples tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to it though I think DP is a bit . He's very fit and active but not very yoga-ey. I expect this will be his awakening!

We've also got a normal one-day antenatal class booked, not till the first week of June so I'll be about 32 or 33 weeks by then I think.

albs I am 5 foot 2 and no half! And DP is about 6ft 1 - does this mean more likely to have a whopper??? Yikes if so. How sweet of your DH to get your trewsers for you.

Come along girls, I go out of the country and you are all yack yack yacking like billyo and as soon as I come back you all hide behind the sofa and pretend you've gone to work.

TwilightSurfer · 09/05/2008 18:33

Evening ladies,
Well I've had a little bit of a scare today. Seems I'm not measuring the proper fundal size [a week or so small]. Added with that my report of minor brown spotting on Sunday and a discussion that the baby's kicks don't seem to be as pronounced now as they did over the weekend....I had to have an ultrasound. It would have been okay if the doctor didn't LOOK worried but he wasn't hiding anything. He does the ultrasound himself so it's not so bad. He measured the head, the leg, the stomach, saw that she was about to take a tinkle, measure my fluid level and took the heart rate...all calculated to exactly where they needed to be. I'm 25+6 today. The one BIG thing he noted (and what I've been complaining about for WEEKS) is that the baby is transverse, meaning she's laying across me as if my hips were a cradle, instead of head down/butt up. He thinks that may be why my belly size is squewed and why the movements seem muted. She was very active the whole time which was a little difficult in the beginning as she right off the bat put her butt to the camera then punched me in the side. Her mouth was moving too like she was trying to tell us something (GREAT another talker). Doc said to begin my kick counts today for sure so we can begin monitoring her activity level. He said 10 kicks in 2 hours is the goal. Less than that and I have to go to the ER for another ultrasound (if I notice it over the weekend). He explained the kicks could be subtle, they could be movement-like, they could be swishes....just make sure there are at least 10 in 2 hours. He also said to make sure the room was quiet when I did the counts and sit or lay comfortably. He said if things seem to not be working, down a coke and see if that wakes her up.

Bottom line: He thought things were fine after all.

I go back in two weeks at which time I'm schedule for my 3D/4D scan. I'll be 28 weeks.

As for my sinus problems.....I am to take Zyrtec every morning now and an expectorant as needed to keep my chest clear. If things don't get better in two weeks time he'll put me on an antibiotic and see if that works. It didn't help that I wasn't coughing up junk while there.....BUT AS SOON AS I LEFT hack hack hack sneeze hack. That confirms with me it's truly allergy.

Well that's my epic today. I'll be posting the baby picture I scored in just a minute.

...not sure how I feel......
