thanks for your support everyone . I am going to suggest I work an extra 30 mins so i can take lunch. My senior boss was ok with my proposed hours, but it's my immediate line manager that has refused them now I've actually started in her office. I'll play it by ear tomorrow and decide what to do. Just don't fancy a long commute, hours at my desk then long drive home.

starlight my boobs are too compact to try it on myself! Love the thought of you lying to your HV.

I just had a quick tidy up (fuelled by home made cookies ) so the house looks less like a bear pit now and I feel a bit happier. Just wish the sun would come back out.

Quite a few of you have mentioned rearfacing pushchairs. I think they are good for when a baby is small but my ds would hate facing backwards now. He loves to see where he is going and tell me what he can see (and someone said they like their dd facing them so they can hear what they are saying but (and maybe I'm mean) I sometimes like that I can't hear everything he says as he never ever ever ever stops talking and is very repetitive so its nice sometimes to get some peace if thats mean)

potxola · 15/05/2008 14:55

Are you going to buy new born bodysuits or 0-3 months?
Have you heard of the fitflops?, they help you to keep fit while walking. I am interested to buy a pair and I can use them a lot after the baby is born and also around the house.

potxola · 15/05/2008 14:56

I meant fitflops

I only bought some lovely sleepsuits from Blooming marvellous £4.00off and free delivery in the newborn size, because Lorea is a girl and will be born at 39 weeks or before. I agree with you. I have plenty of colourful 0-3 sleepsuits from my son that she can also wear for when she is bigger.

starlight Jasper Conran is a designer I used to sell his stuff when working as as a shopgirl at Harrods in my summer holidays... Your probably thinking of Terence Conran of the restaurant chain... and have a feeling he's Jasper's father/uncle

Hello, I'm nearly 21 weeks. Due on the 26th of September. had my second scan yesterday. Everything alright. Didn't find out what we're having, though was very tempted, just because we cannot agree on any boy names!!
Mustsleep: My 3 and a half year old son has started on the "whys", it drives me up the wall! One explanation isn't enough, he then asks why to that as well. So we end up going in clrces forever!!

MelT76 · 15/05/2008 16:19

Potxola, I had some fitflops of my mum for Christmas (Paul McKenna, I can make you thin the year before. Think she is trying to tell me something!)
They are great, but can make your calf muscles hurt if you wear them for a long time. Prob best not to wear them until after the baby is here.

lollipopmother · 15/05/2008 16:33

I am going to get some newborn ones but also a lot of 0-3 months. If you have a large baby you won't fit it into a newborn bodysuit so you should go to the hospital with a selection of both when you are finally in labour.

To all the ladies with heartburn - I had awful heartburn and I also couldn't eat more than about 10 mouthfuls of my meal before being stuffed to the eyeballs, I was like this from 20 to 23 weeks then all of a sudden it completely went, I haven't had heartburn, or reflux, OR indigestion for nearly a whole week. AND I can eat my normal portions again. I think it must have been the position of the baby or something.

DebitheScot · 15/05/2008 16:37

starlight Next clothes are designed by someone so that could make them designer . Debenhams sell Jasper Conran but I'm guessing the stuff he does for Harrods is prob not the same and is more expensive. Some of it is really nice. I might start looking in charity shops, sounds like there are some good bargains to be had.

I last time was given a couple of newborn babygros but mainly just had 0-3, he was 9lb so the newborn ones didn't last long. I bought a set of 'desinger' Next ones the other week in 0-3.

We haven't got onto the 'WHY?' with ds yet either, I'm not looking forward to that. ALthough sometimes it would be useful if he understood it as we ask him why? sometimes and get furstrated that he can't answer it.

Pitufina - hello, are you new on here? If so, welcome .
There is a list of us and due dates on here somewhere. It would be good if you could add yourself. I haven't seen it recently. It must be quite a few pages back by now. Anyone know which page it is on?

Hello all. Been away for a few days and spent ages catching up - god we post quick don't we. Enjoyed reading all the threads - think the bits about bf scared me to death - the thought of such little sleep in the first few weeks is a bit terrifying, so I'm not thinking about it just yet....

LouiseAnn Your comments re Methydopa made me feel much better. My bp has been up all pregnancy and I'm on 1g a day, which seems to keep it normal. i didn't realise it makes you tired, which is good to know as I've been sooooo tired, thought I was just abnormal. Btw, I've been told epidurals are more likely if you have high bp, as it lowers your bp during labour.

Talking cars, I'm a bit of a 'normal' car-freak. Don't shout at me, but I think you should only ever have a 4x4 if you own a farm/live in the country. Chealsea tractors should be clamped and burned (IMO)! We drive a Ford Mondeo (DP and I have one each) and I love it. Roomy for most things, has power for motorway driving/overtaking/leaving boy racers in their little 1.2 clios standing etc etc (can you tell I'm a bit obsessed??), plus Mondeos are ultra safe with airbags everywhere.

And finally, clothes - I've invested in a few nice pieces that should last the summer from BloomingMarvellous in Chester. I've also gone for some very cheap stuff too, that I won't wear again - eg £3,50 men's t shirts in M&S. XL - big and roomy (great for labour too!) and use once and throw away at end of summer. BHS also do v cheap, floaty stuff for the beach which is good cos I hope I won't be wearing such a large size next year! I got a skirt cum dress with an elasticated waist for just £12. Off to portugal in 3 weeks - yay!! Last holiday for DP and I. Next year it'll be me, DP and our flumpet!

Sorry for long post - it's been a while!!

imoscarsmum · 15/05/2008 17:33

LeonieD I hate how they assume everyone must keep to charts, tables etc. I've been reading up and am determined to refuse all intervention (especially induction) unless my life or flumpet's life depends on it. i get the feeling hospitals are so worried about being sued, they want to take all risk away.

I too have growth scans at 28 & 34 weeks (family history of big babies) - happy to have cos I love scans but I'm not going to be bullied!!

Found out on Monday that my hospital has new labour beds that are remote controlled, that spilt in 2 and rotate and do all kinds of stuff. Apparently you can have an active birth while still being monitored cos the bed can move with you!! Wow! I can see DP wanting the remote control.......

Haven't been on for a few days as FIL is visiting. He and DH have been busy building a patio and a playhouse for DD. She's still a little young for it but she'll grow into it. It looks great!
potxola DD is 2 in February so I make that a two and half year age gap? The little hombre will be called Douglas but while he's little he'll be Duggie/ Dougie/ Douggie - we can't agree on how to spell it! Does anyone know for sure? It doesn't help that DH and I pronounce it differently - I say 'Duggie' but he says 'Doogie' as he is Scottish (hence the choice of name). At least we'll get it right on his birth certificate as 'Douglas' is fairly uncontroversial!
