mustsleep · 13/05/2008 09:40

my mum and dad had the older verison of the renault scenic megane and loved it so much after the found out i was expecting my 3rd rushed out and bought a renault grande which is the one that you can have seven seats in or a huge boot

is great as biglips says for not having to bend and it's great while you are preggers too much easier to get in and out of

i tried the gap in leeds but was totally disappointed three weeks ago they had about 3 things

have just discovered that i can still do up my cropped jeans from last year though so at keast that's something

Pidge · 13/05/2008 10:15

eandz - we live in south london and do have a car - but honestly I hardly ever use it. I don't particularly like driving, plus with kids it's fun using public transport. We're lucky where we live as we can walk nearly everywhere. So why don't you see how you get on. And for occasional use, we have some friends who use streetcar and seem to find it good.

I'm working from home today as I have a streaming cold. Thought it was just hayfever yesterday, but no! Feeling pretty grotty, and definitely not up to my 40 minute bike ride each way, plus 35 minute train ride etc.

eandz · 13/05/2008 10:40

yeah we're a 10 second walk from st johns wood tube station so i think it might just be easier to take public transport since i wouldn't have to deal with a car seat and safety belts.

we've actually had street car for a year, but still haven't used it...i think it's because my husbands family keep fudging my driving confidence into the dirt. They came to America for the wedding (from london) and decided that if it was tough for them to do it, it would be impossible for me to do it here. but i think i'll try it this weekend.

mustsleep · 13/05/2008 10:41

oh where oh where has the sunshine gone no really it is nice not feel all sweaty and gross today though

dh is sooo going to kill me have changed m mind about the buggy again and have just listedit back on ebay i think i will just try and do it without hi knowing about it and will just show him the new one when i have defo decided am going to keep it, it's just such a big decision though

barnpot · 13/05/2008 10:46

AHLH we live in Ponteract, so sculpture park a little out of the way, but there is nowhere like it for us to walk here, its the first time ive been there but hubby did a gig in the centre a few weeks ago and recomended it. must admit it is such a lovely walk even the dog was bemused with the sheep and lambs (how cute). and in-laws live in ossett so had to drop by as we were so near

digitalgirl · 13/05/2008 11:06

hi ladies

mustsleep glad to hear you've got lots of time off

eandz lots of people I know live in london with kids and without a car, they just hire one on the weekend if they want to go for out of town trips. or hail the occasional cab when out and about in town and it gets a bit too much. my DH drives to work, hence our need for an upgrade...but otherwise it would save a fortune if we didn't need one. I think we're going for a Focus CMax.

Feeling a bit twingy today so I think there's a bit of a growth spurt going on. Baby is starting kick belly button area now. Definitely getting bigger!

My GTT results came back as normal, but have to go back again at 28 weeks for another round. That's July, I wonder how quickly that will go?

Thanks for all the maternity skirt tips, I too was looking on eBay and couldn't find any decent bargains. Might go for the normal drawstring-under bump-size up trick.

Is anyone still waiting for their scan or are we all done? It's brilliant that everything's been fine for us all. We ARE a lucky bunch.

DG

Morning all

Another sunny day here, bit windy though but still nice. Lovely dp bought me some new clothes as I kept moaning that my mat ones from last year were still too big and all my others too small! Got 2 lovely comfy stretchy vest tops from H&M, only £3.99 each and they're fab Also got a smarter type top and a dungarees type short dress! I've never really liked those but have to say it looks quite good and is a godsend in this weather. That was about all they had in there that I liked though as all the trousers are huge in lenghth for me and also over bump which I cannot stand.

Took dd to be weighed and measured today, it's in the same place as the mw office so I nipped in to ask if she would measure me. I just feel massive. Anyway she did and I'm already measuring 2wks ahead. She also said baby actually feels big too I was really hoping for a smaller one than dd. Looks like that's not going to happen. Will see what they say at scan next Tuesday but now I am truly worried.....

eandz · 13/05/2008 11:42

babies!!! we're having babies!!!

sorry i'm just happy i'm having one. i'm usually not excited about it since all i think about is it's crying and suckling and pooping...but i'd like to take today and just focus on the cuteness of babies!!!

digitalgirl · 13/05/2008 12:05

...cute little babies with podgy plump feet that are so new they haven't even been 'walked' on yet!

Sunshinemummy · 13/05/2008 12:16

Hi all - getting lots of Braxton Hicks today, actually quite painful, and also feeling quite breathless so assuming the carrying high thing with girls must be true!

Slinkie I don't actually drive (I know it's pathetic in a woman of 38) but it is DP's favourite ever car and he doesn't seem to have any problems parking it (although he's a bit of a demon parker!). In terms of having a car in London, I obviously haven't needed to drive and last time round I pretty much walked everywhere. Where it's great to have one is things where you have lots of luggage, so for us that's travelling to visit relatives in the North. It does seem that once you have a child you take everything and the kitchen sink! DS's nursery is also a half hour walk up a steep hill, so it's nice when DP can take us in, especially as I'm feeling so breathless at the moment.

Lollipopmother my best work dress is a wrap one I have from Top Shop maternity. It looks smart, is very comfy and I don't think it was expensive. It tends to gape a little around my mahoosive boobs, but I tend to wear a little vest top from Uniqlo underneath.

Sunshinemummy · 13/05/2008 12:22

Just put a new pic on my profile of DS in the garden at the weekend in anyone's interested.

hopefully · 13/05/2008 12:55

Aw, your DS is cute Sunshinemummy!

I think I have about a dozen items of maternity wear now, which I'm determined are going to see me through. Am also studiously ruining two non-maternity wrap dresses, as they're useful and comfortable for work, and they're old enough that I don't mind replacing them afterwards (good excuse for a shopping trip ). Slightly concerned that I'm almost out of my maternity denim skirt - think I was a bit optimistic on the size when I bought it - but hoping one comes up on ebay if I do actually grow out of it. Oh, the shame of being too fat for maternity wear.

In terms of cars, we have a 2 door (3 door? does the boot count as a door?) renault clio, but unfortunately can't afford to upgrade at the moment. However, we are going to move into the local town (Chichester) soon after birth, which should mean much less reliance on car (DP can even cycle to work!) which will save a bit on money/environment/lifting out of back seat hassle.

AHLH · 13/05/2008 13:40

Re Cars I was brought up in SW London and we often didn't have a car. Only when Dad had one for work, and then later did buy one when he was wheelchair bound. But I'd say for well over half my childhood we didn't. We walked a lot, got buses, tubes and trains and had a Family Railcard. Hired 'em for holidays. Left home for Uni at 18 and was amazed how many non-Londoners I met could drive. Learnt at 21 when I got into mountaineering.

eandz · 13/05/2008 13:54

i love driving. i haven't driven since i was home, but goodness knows it's a lot of fun.

i just wish my husband could drive. he loves playing grand theft auto...

but i think if we'll keep with the street car plan and figure things out if we have a second baby. (i want 4 so i might revisit this issue in a few months.)

mustsleep · 13/05/2008 14:14

i can't drive and neither can dh which is a bit of a pain at times esp if we fancy a trip to the seaside as it's quite far from here but then i suppose if we get the train we are both there to entertain the kids and don;thave to worry about finding a space and my parents are really good when we are in a bind for stuff like the docs in the middle of a bank hol weekend

his friends really annoy me sometimes one of their cars broke down and he was like can;t go into work today got no car, i was like get tyhe bus get a taxi how do you think the rest of us manage

good god if we did get a cra now it would cost us a fortune in carseats!!

am between the bugaboo bee now and the streety by bebeconfort. they seem fairly similar and the streety comes with carseat for £215 whereas i cannot even find a second hand bee for less than £330 aaarrrggghhh decisions decisions will defo have to stick to it this time though. i was going to be really good and stic to the zia that we alreadyu havefor dd but if we go out for the day she might need a rest and it's not carseat compatible for if we go out for the day with my parents

has anyone use either of them?

also sunshinemummy your ds is soooo sweet is so nice when theycan play out isn;t it, ds and dd had there tea in the garden last night and loved it

Sunshinemummy · 13/05/2008 14:26

Him and his mate had a great time running round the garden and jumping in and out of the pool in the rudey nudey (as it's called in this house). Was a lot of fun!

eandz · 13/05/2008 14:37

mustsleep... america buggaboo's are cheaper...

i might buy two bees and sell it for the hassle. but thats if i decide to buy the bee.

mustsleep · 13/05/2008 14:42

how much cheaper are they? would prefer the extendable handle for dh but he is only 5foot 10 so cant see it being that much of a prob

DebitheScot · 13/05/2008 15:01

eandz I love your outbursts that you do every few days of "I'm having a baby, it'll have cute toes" type thing. They always make me smile. And sometimes I need to be reminded of how cool it is having a baby as I must admit I haven't been as excited about this one and all the little things that happen as with ds. I'm guessing that's normal though.

Also eandz if you live so close to tube station and you haven't needed to use a car in the last year I'd say you don't need one at the moment. Its easy enough to go and get one if you decide you do need one so you may as well save money and the environment and not get one yet.

mamamuffin I'm that you are going to call your baby Euan. I love that name but it just doesn't go with our surname.

mustsleep · 13/05/2008 15:12

nope i have bought the streety does anyone kow how long it takes for paypal payments to come out of your bank account actually do not have ay cash in at the mo, but am paying some in on thurs and get paid on fri so it should take longer than that to come out shouldn;t it?

hopefully · 13/05/2008 16:03

mustsleep I think depending on the way your paypal account is set up it will either come out the next day or about 5 days later. If you log onto paypal and click on the purchase, there's an expected clearing date on there, if it's 2 days expect the money to come out tomorrow, if it's about 10 days expect the money to come out in about 5. Hope that helps!

DP and I really need to have another name conversation. We occasionally think of ones we like, and then move on to talk about something else. How can we not be spending every waking moment debating something so important?! Trouble is not that we can't find one that we like, but that we keep hearing other ones that we like as well!

mustsleep · 13/05/2008 16:35

thanks hopefully on mine there was no expected date thingy, just says completed i'm sure it will me fine (i hope)

we need to think about names too, dh is not warming to charlie at all and i do not like dh;s suggestion so it's back to square one!

mamamufin · 13/05/2008 17:17

Thank you Debithescot I am so happy that you like the name euan .

I cant imagine not having a car. I live in a little village in the country and need to drive everywhere as the buses are so infrequent and there just isnt taxis unless u book a month in advance.

Sunshine I love your ds pics, he is gorgeous.

We r going to have babies

oops got to go, back soon x

becaroo · 13/05/2008 17:35

Euan is lovely.

I like Harry, but dh isnt convinced.

RE: bebeconfort - I had one and LOVED it! Only got rid of it in November " (d'oh)

RE: driving...does anyone know when yuo have to stop driving when pregnant (if at all?)
