carrieon Gap have a couple of skirts like that, but they are in the sale at the moment so running very low on stock (£15 or so). There is a navy one (that eandz has described, a dress in the same fabric, and I have a brown one with a fine white pinstripe running through it). But I expect they will get some brand new stuff soon!

eandz · 12/05/2008 17:11

we're thinking about getting a volvo s40... we just got rid of our mercedes c coupe so we could save on money (we didn't know we were two months pregnant at the time) and we were like "only people with kids really need cars in London" ... thank god our apartment comes with parking.

lollipopmother · 12/05/2008 17:12

I went to Gap last week, I tried on 4 dresses and all of them aged me about 30 years, it was horrible . I'm desparate to find some nice dresses for work but it just isn't happening, although I've bought two off Ebay and am praying that they look nice. I'm really gutted that George/Asda have stopped doing maternity stuff, everywhere else is just so damn expensive, I don't want to pay £30 for a dress when i'm only going to be wearing it for 3 months.

eandz · 12/05/2008 18:52

i don't have a problem with looking older. people seem to think i'm a teenager.

becaroo · 12/05/2008 19:00

Hi all...

Had scan today and little darling was asleep and woulndt move so have got to go back so they can get a good look at the spine, but everything else seemed ok and........

its a boy!!!!!

My ds is delighted

Was really clear, you could the heart, diaphragn, everything (well, except the spine!)

On the car front, I have a 5 door corsa and love it. Big enough for 2 kids and a weekly shop, but manageable to park.

Am so looking forward to my weekend in london - we are staying in a 5 star hotel!

Just got to decide on a name now...........

micromum · 12/05/2008 19:08

Hi Everyone,

CARS I have a honda FRV which is only a small car but has 6 seats (3 front 3 back), I love it as its not to big and fun to drive.

Isabella Oliver - Has anybody bought the wrap tops, i bought 2 last week and everytime i wear them i always get a gap, either my belly or back is showing. Complete waste of money.

mamamufin · 12/05/2008 19:24

Hi guys

Congratulations on the little man news bacaroo. At least you get to see him again.

I think we have decided on the name Euan. . We both really like it.

I am still in the same skirts so cant contribute to your posts. I am just wearing them a little higher if that makes sense.

Like you mustsleep I am really struggling at work as its so physical. I spent most of the morning on my hands and knees. Getting up and down. It was so hot, my back aches and I still have the odd pain in my bits Gosh It must sound like I have the weirdest job of all! Anyway I feel bad saying anything to the girls I work with as they have been so good about all of my time of with ms. If I go on lighter duties I know that they will have to take more on and I dont think this is fair. I have decided to bring it into the conversation when I have an interview with Hr on Wed. I am basically going to beg them to just let me start my hols and maternity leave.

Lovin the weather still.
Take care x

kiskideesameanoldmother · 12/05/2008 19:28

I am currently in a 2L Volkswagen Golf (140bhp). I won't be changing cars after no2 is here. It is way too much fun to drive.

Were I to change cars I think it would be a Nissan Note. Very mumsy though.

the boot space holds the pushchair I chose plus room for groceries. I prefer slings to pushchairs anyway so that if more for others to take her out and about.

I have already decided to do all my shopping online for the foreseeable future as my hips can't take pushing a trolley anymore.

meglet · 12/05/2008 19:34

I saw my very wonderful consultant today and he is more than happy for me to have a planned c-section . I am so relieved. So they will do it at 39 weeks. I just hope I don't go into labour early, DS was born at 37 weeks.

gracie we had to change cars from a Ford KA and have now got a Citroen Picasso. It's not too big (will still fit the garage and parking spaces) but it has loads of room and storage and we can get our huge 3 wheeler in the boot. You can get some good deals with them if you search for the used cars on the citroen web site. It seemed to be cheaper than all the other small MPV's too.

mustsleep · 12/05/2008 19:39

yay!! have been singed off for another 2 weeks

as soon as i walked in the doc basically just handed me the sick note the nurse must have written about my work prbs in my notes

am very happy now and am soo glad i didn't have to go in today as its just too hot to do much!!

by the time my note runs out it will be the spring break hols which i was taking as holiday anyway and then i can start my leave or stick it out for as long as poss!!

eandz · 12/05/2008 19:51

perfect! i'm glad it's worked out for you mustsleep.

mamamuffin- i'm sure hr will be nice to you too... i think we're a lucky bunch.

carrieon · 12/05/2008 19:56

Thanks for the tip on Gap, sadly the York store doesn't have a maternity department, and by the look of things there's no online shopping from Gap. So still no skirts for me

On the topic of cars, we absolutely love our Ford CMax. Its the ford equivalent of the Picasso, or the Renault Megane Scenic. Very nippy and practical and laaaarge on boot space.

eandz · 12/05/2008 20:15

hmmm... how important is it really to have a car if you have a child? we live in nw london... do we need one?

micromum · 12/05/2008 20:20

Hi

EandZ, I live in NW London too, i would be stuck without my car, it comes in very handy to take kids to after school activites and shopping.

eandz · 12/05/2008 20:25

but my baby isn't born yet...i think my husband might just be being a prick since he can't drive and doesnt want to learn.

but then again, it's also a financial issue. it's either buy a car or be close to being debt free.

splishsplosh · 12/05/2008 20:32

Carrieon Re skirts - I think I saw 1 in Red Herring maternity in Debenhams, but can't remember what it was like. Can't you look for normaal elastic waist skirts that can just sit below the bump? Or do you like over the bump styles?

eandz I haven't got a car, and live in south London. P's mum was certain I'd never manage without one, but it's been totally fine. There are times when it would be convenient, and there are some day trips that are a bit harder without a car, but day to day I like public transport. Baby gets to see lots, people all coo over them and chat to you, no worries with parking, encourages you to walk a bit more (good if you're worried about getting your figure back), environmentally responsible etc etc! Shopping can be done on the internet as well. So, it's not essential - why don't you wait and see how you get along, and if you find it's a pain without 1 you can get 1 after all.

KashaSarrasin · 12/05/2008 20:34

Carrieon the Leeds Gap does maternity (in the basement)

I don't drive but we've just upgraded from a Clio to a Xsara Picasso, we wanted something that would be comfortable to do long (8hr+) trips in to see family as they live so far away - it makes a huge difference! And now we can fit everything in the boot instead of needing a roof box.

Haven't posted for ages but have been trying to keep up! Glad everyone is well I've been getting lots of big kicks recently, finally not only can DH feel them but we can see them too! Fantastic but very strange and odd to look at...

carrieon · 12/05/2008 20:53

Thank you kasha, by pure fluke I'm going on a one-off trip to Leeds tomorrow without dd for a bridesmaids dress fitting so will hotfoot it to gap (where is it?!) and have a look!

And if I see any 'normal' skirts with elastic waistbands, they'll become mine too!

barnpot · 12/05/2008 20:53

hi all had a niceish weekend, on sat went for a lovely picnic and walk around the yorkshire scupture park, spent the afternoon with the in-laws, and shock horror, she was actually nice to me, then had a lovely BBQ with some friends. but think I must have over done it a bit as ended up in A&E with a really sore throat, started panicking thinking I couldn't breath, saw DR said nothing really wrong and sent me home. anyway felt worse yesterday and today, so went to GP and I have tonsilitis now, so anoher week off work thats 3 now then I'm on holiday.
felt really guilty phoning work to tell them I'm not coming in but they have been really nice/supportive about everything.
getting used to the growing a penis idea, saw MW today, said all was ok with lil bob.
love to all

AHLH · 12/05/2008 21:30

carrieon The Leeds Gap is on Briggate (main shopping street where all the principal shops) , opposite M&S and next to House of Fraser pretty much. Maternity stuff is in the basement. When I was in there last week, they had loads of maternity shorts on the sale rail.

AHLH · 12/05/2008 21:35

Barnpot Whereabouts do you live then? I am about three miles from the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, so I'm guessing you can't be too far away? I love it there, often go for walks there. When I was fitter I walked there, around the park, then back!

MummyToOneForNow · 12/05/2008 21:52

On cars we went for a Focus Estate - loads of room - we also test drove a c-max but thought the estate had a bigger boot (though not as much height) - the boot is very wide for the size of car so fits most buggies. Very pleased with it so far (and it fits in our garage ).

hopefully · 13/05/2008 07:37

Micromum, I have an isabella oliver wrap top, which I haven't had any problems with, but I haven't worn it for a couple of weeks, and I've got a lot bigger in that time - I can't imagine it will still cover everything when I get even bigger!

Glad you got signed off again mustsleep. Must be such a relief.

My train into work today has been cancelled, and because I live in the sticks there are no others for ages, so looks like I'm having an unscheduled working from home day today!

biglips · 13/05/2008 09:28

weve got a old Renault megane Scenic...its a carrier and you dont need to buy down to put the child in like a car. If we had the money we would buy a Renault Scenic. The boot is so roomy and the car is roomy overall.

ive gotta steer away from bread but not all together as its bloating me awful. Ive decided to start eating smaller portions from today as in the last 2 weeks ive been starving and eating loads till i feel ill!

another gorgeous day here in Liverpool

biglips · 13/05/2008 09:29

bend down not buy down!!
