Its another nice day and I'm stuck in the office WAAAAHHHHHH!
However today I am going to treat myself to a pair of maternity linen trousers and hopefully a nice long skirt, when I say treat I mean wander around the shops in my lunch hour trying to find the maternity bits and when I do I find them they have 5 items none of which fit properly and all make me look like a beached whale...

On saturday I bought an 8ft paddling pool from Tesco for just FIFTEEN POUNDS, the point was for June/July it might be the only way I have to keep cool but if the weather continues like this I might have to get it out. (My mum asked on the phone how I was going to get out of it. Cheers Mum)

LilyToTheB I am with you on the achey thing, still not in real pain anywhere just feel like I am 80. Also my toenail fell off this morning, I am not sure that is a pregnancy thing or not

Has anyone here tried the Nivarna Spa? Mum and I are booking ourselves a treat for the first day of my mat leave (only another 6 weeks!)

SK- Please post a photo that sounds quite adorable.

I thought BH weren't meant to be painful? (Haven't got any yet)

LilyToTheB · 07/05/2008 09:26

Libra - sorry you're stuck at work and goo luck with he hunt for maternity trousers later! I know what you mean, you manage to find a shop that does maternity clothes and none of it looks right! I've taken to ordering stuff from catalogues, then you can try it on at home too!

Oooh am loving the paddling pool idea! That will be sooo nice when it gets really warm and we're massive! I'm sure you'll find a weay to get in and out of it, maybe sit a chair next to it? hee hee

I'm not sure if I've had any BH yet, keep getting an uncomfortable tight feeling high in my belly, makes it difficult to walk around, it's not a pain though.

Heffa · 07/05/2008 09:40

LilytotheB - the Eden Day Spa in Exeter do pregnancy massages. I'm not sure how good they are, but I've been there before for other treatments and it's a lovely spa. Depends where you are in the South West though!

I don't think I've had any BH yet either, although I'm not sure what to look for.

The paddling pool sounds great! I might try and find one.

When are we meant to start drinking raspberry leaf tea? All the advice seems a bit conflicting.

LilyToTheB · 07/05/2008 09:44

Thanks Heffa - I'm in Dorset, but Exeter's not too far away, I'll definitely look into that one.

I'm with you on the BH, wdon't know what to look for so not sure if I've had any!

EEC · 07/05/2008 10:02

Feeling a bit more cheerful today. Thanks for support everyone. I'm going to jump on raspberry leaf tea band wagon too, although I'm sure I will forget to drink it.

BH getting seriously irritating. Do you think it might make labour easier, all this practicing? (wishful thinking)

Peanut73 · 07/05/2008 10:11

Morning All!

Grrrr... McChesers, I feel your anger! Do these people not realise how our lives revolve around their appointments?

CilC - I love Perth; beautiful part of the world. My Mama is coming over from NZ to be here for three weeks arriving the day before my due date (ugh). Our house is going to be mad as there will be DH, me, LO, my brother, SIL and Mum... all staying in a 2 bedroom house - the joy.

Is anyone else here working and really struggling with going in to the office? I am finding it really hard. They have already 'replaced' me with an officious little madame, and I just sit there with nothing to do all day until I have to take the painful commute back home again exhausted.

I've been really cut out of the loop and feel like a big fat pariah sitting there doing nothing. I've also had so many antenatal appointments and scans due to having a two vessel cord (single umbilical artery - SUA) that I think they're a bit fed up with me and can't wait for me to go! I would happily start my ML now but need the money for the next 3 1/2 weeks work.

So frustrating! Oh well, just count down the days I suppose.

Twinkle1 - you sound teeny tiny! Where have you put those babies of yours?! You must be one of these blessed fast-metabolism people, lucky thing.

SK - hope you get a Dr's appointment, good luck!

Well, am off to the GP myself in 30 mins then the dreaded commute into work. Hopefully I don't have too much colour from my sick day (in the back garden) yesterday!

xx

isaidno · 07/05/2008 10:14

Lovely sunny day here so we're going to the garden centre.

I get the raspberry leaf teabags from holland and barrett.
here is a little bit of info.

JODIEhavingababy · 07/05/2008 10:14

Hi

Braxton Hicks are 'only' practise contractions, which makes your tummy go rock hard, but if it's your first (I'm guessing here) your uterus muscles are in better shape so possibly won't feel much. I never got them at all with DS. It does tend to start at the top, my midwife likened it to squeezing a tube of toothpaste! It just makes it hard to sit, stand, move, bend, breathe!!!! But they don't last long! and they are not always painful.

As for Raspberry leaf tea, there is as far as I'm aware, no negagtive aspects to drinking it, it's just inconclusive that is works! But I'll give anything a go! I drank it religiously with DS and had a 'kind of' easy labour, (well second stage was easy compared to first! ) I was never able to find it a supermarkets, I bought mine from Holland and Barrett.....

JODIEhavingababy · 07/05/2008 10:17

Crossed post ISAID NO, that info's brilliant! I must say I didn't know the half of it!

Heffa · 07/05/2008 10:46

Thanks for the info on the raspberry leaf tea! I quite like the taste of it, so I'm quite happy to give it a try. Peanut - I know what you mean about work. When I go in now it's just really boring because there's nothing to do although my colleagues are all panicking about what to do when I actually go.

I've had loads of antenatal appointments because I have (on occasion) quite high blood pressure (although nothing else) and everyone is always asking if I'm OK - which is lovely of them, but drives me up the wall because I feel absolutely fine and it's all a bit of a storm in a teacup. MW keeps telling me to relax, but then panics and sends me into the hospital, which doesn't really help me relax.

Sorry! Bit of a rant there, it's been driving me absolutely bonkers the last few weeks.

TJuice · 07/05/2008 10:55

hi all

i guess i must have this "mythical" pregnancy brain because i forgot about a client meeting this morning and was taking my sweet time, washing my hair etc when i got a call from the project manager. so i had to jump on my bike and rush to work (which i really hate doing) and got there with piggy small eyes (no mascara) and no bra on.

Pointless and annoying meeting anyway - the clients pretty much had an internal meeting arguing about text i had written, while i sat there looking out the window. i think its almost game-over for my caring about work now... i have the same thing peanut - not replaced yet, but feeling a bit useless. one thing i have to do before i go is come up with an environmental/CSR policy - for a totally unethical advertising agency - wot a laugh!

i only have two weeks and one day and then I'm off! yaaaaay!

and its so sunny here (playing havoc with my pigmentation) but its still nice.

can one drink raspberry iced tea?

jealous of libra's paddling pool and anyone going to a spa... we have massages here every thursday which i will miss a lot.

should i be having leaky boobs too? i am 33 weeks tomorrow - hope this doesn't mean breast feeding will be hard for me . . .(first-timer paranoia)

hospital workers and midwives and teachers are striking here - so i think my friday mid-wife appointment will be cancelled

Poledra · 07/05/2008 11:08

TJuice, I haven't had leaky boobs in any of my pgs. Bfed both dds to roughly a year old, planning the same for this one.

isaidno · 07/05/2008 11:10

I see no reason why you couldn't try making iced tea from the raspberry leaf. Might taste better like that...

Libra1975 · 07/05/2008 11:32

"iced tea from the raspberry leaf. Might taste better like that... "

adding bacardi might help as well surely by 35 weeks the baby is only putting on fat anyway.

Minkus · 07/05/2008 11:38

Wow lots of chat!

Weather great here as well. Had the afternoon off for my first antenatal class yesterday, it finished at 3.45 so just chilled after in the sun. The content of the session was a bit muddled but I really went to meet other mums so that bit was nice. Another two sessions to go so hopefully I?ll get to know a couple of them well enough to suggest coffee when we?re on mat leave/mum & baby group after lo?s arrive. All my existing mum friends had their second babies long ago so I need some other folks around with newborns to go ?oh god I can?t remember about this does your baby do it too is it normal?!?

Have a midwife?recommended relaxation class this afternoon too so get the time off for that as well (yippee!). It?s run by the physio dept at the hospital, when I went when pg last time there was lots of useful stuff about breathing techniques and looking after your back in late pg/labour/recovery so am going again this time. There?s also an infant feeding workshop and as I want to be well prepared for bf again I?ll be popping along to that one too. Our health authority seems to be quite good on the information side. My health visitor is wonderful too so I am one of the few happy customers of the NHS.

Am in the office tomorrow morning, all day Monday and then Tuesday morning and that is it! Normal holiday leave then mat leave starts!

Tjuice re: boobies- mine didn?t ever leaked when preggers first time but successfully bf ds exclusively for 18 months so don?t worry yourself about the no leaks thing, they?ll work just fine.

Hello peanut and ponto, hope things have been plain sailing for you guys thus far! Peanut I am struggling with work too, only been back for 4 weeks (signed off since November because of hyperemesis bleurrgh) and it?s so hard. I have to park quite a way away from my building and then waddle slowly to my desk, panting because of the stairs, my bump makes it awkward getting in and out of the car, I hate the clothes I have, don?t want to do any work anyway (hence posting here ha ha) etc etc so I can empathise with you!

Have a good day all xx

Libra1975 · 07/05/2008 11:41

Arggh, one of the ladies on July due board I posted on had her baby on Sunday (Mum & LO doing well)

  • starts to feel a little apprehensive *

Minkus - nice planning to have classes in the middle of the working day! Mine are all in the evening.

Minkus · 07/05/2008 11:44

Ha ha libra about the Bacardi! I am really missing alcohol, not like I drank loads anyway but do fancy it. I had a small glass of delicious red wine the other night but woke up with a muggy head and whilst I know rationally that a tiddly glass of wine will not a hangover make, I felt so guilty about how the baby must have been feeling if I felt rotten. The Guilt is already starting to set in! (Warning to new mums to be, everyone tells you about The Love you?ll have for your baby but nobody uttered a single word to me about The Guilt. It will come at you from all angles!)

mcchesers · 07/05/2008 11:48

Ooh raspberry iced tea sounds perfect just now.
Not everyone gets the leaky boobs i don't think.

CilC · 07/05/2008 11:56

Hi everyone
Don't know why but found myself drawn to Boots and went in...came out with three bags!!! But very practical stuff like maternity pads - for all newbies you will need more than you ever thought you would!

Jodiehavingbaby - I was told babies sleep more during the day because we tend to move more and the rocking of our waters lulls them to sleep - hence rocking a baby to sleep. When we are still they wake up! Not sure if true, but I will believe anything!

Peanut - I used to work in HR (very naughty advice coming)and it was not uncommon for Mums-to-be who felt they were already replaced to get written off for sick leave from their GP's. The company I worked for were always relieved when this happened! The only downside is your Mat Leave can kick in! Not that I am recommending this or anything...

TJuice - I never leaked and produced plenty of milk and bf for 18 months. So please don't worry!

Marvellous - idea about blow up pool just hoping I have enough air in lungs - am off to do that now while DD in Nursery. That way I can splash before she comes home and also keep my beached whale look to myself! Three year olds can come out with the most hurtful and honest things...

JODIEhavingababy · 07/05/2008 12:05

Cilc - I have been buying Maternity pads and breast pads and new born nappies bit by bit, every time I go shopping I throw a packet of something or other in my basket It seems less expensive that way! I remember being shocked at how many maternity pads I went through!

sweetkitty · 07/05/2008 12:23

I remember the first time I bought about 3 packs of sanitary towels - went through them in the first 2 days!

Had to go buy Soleros after someone on her was talking about them, delicious though.

CilC · 07/05/2008 12:46

Soleros...mmmm the yellow ones. They are quite healthy aren't they? Might also have to follow...

That is a very good idea Jodiehavingbaby... I have not bought much yet, so this was my first time! Also picked up a Bounty pack - that was a disappointment...you would think they would have a chocky bar in there, not a washing sample!!!

LilyToTheB · 07/05/2008 13:05

Thanks for the raspberry leaf tea info, am definitely going to give it a go, like the iced tea idea too! Ver tempting in this lovely weather. My hands & feet are going to suffer in the heat I can tell, they're pretty swollen already!

I haven't brought anything in the way of maternity/breast pads yet, will I really need that many? I'd better add them to the list then...

Ha! My DH called me mad last night for throwing some baby wipes into the trolley. Be prepared that's what I say.

Also a little rant before I kill someone at work, there is a bloke at work (who is a twunt anyway) who insists on referring to me as mum-to-be. I.HAVE.A.NAME.
