I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

Welcome InspectorGadget ( I keep wanting to shout 'Go, Gadget, Go!').

What you're feeling is so completely normal and understandable. When you want it so badly, it's hard to believe it is really happening. I already have a child and wasn't trying to conceive for that long with this one, but because I have suffered a miscarriage (last year) it's a very similar feeling for me. Not really believing it is happening, and that things won't go wrong. Plenty of women don't have many symptoms, but it is very early days yet. I was posting on MN that I was worried I had no symptoms at about 5 weeks pregnant - a week or so later the sickness kicked in and for the last month I have had hyperemesis (severe, repeated vomiting - completely debilitating), so don't speak too soon! .

CONGRATS, anyway, and I think you'll find this a great place to post all your concerns (obsessions, neuroses ) and have almost instant sympathetic feedback and some great advice.

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/05/2008 17:56

Hello InspectorGadeget! I remember watching you on TV when I was a kid!

Please, please don't worry too much about not having any sickness IG and Nandos. I didn't have any at all with DS1 and he came out a healthy 9lb 13oz beautiful baby boy). In those days we didn't get a scan until 20 weeks in my area and even then I didn't believe I was actually pg until I saw the wriggly baby on the scan. When I did feel sick the next time I was pg I was shocked. I had assumed I was just going to be one of the lucky ones.

ChutneyMary · 01/05/2008 17:56

Cococat - I'd hold off personally til after the first 13 weeks and then once you are out and proud, just ask the hairdresser to ensure none of it touches your scalp. I know it's not supposed to but it sometimes does. I had mine done last time and it didn't really take for some reason so be prepared for it possibly to look different from a normal set of highlights. Don't mean to piss on your chips but forewarned is forearmed

Katie - well done for giving up the fags. I was at the Drs this am for DD2 and there was a woman in early labour who kept nipping out to have a fag . I was gobsmacked. We got chatting between puffs and she said that she wanted to keep her weight down. Not really the way to go about it though.

Fetal Medicine Centre - sorry can't remember who asked - is fantastic. The beardy guy is Prof Nicolaides himself and he is lovely. I had a nuchal there last time and it was great. They even had a look at the sex for me at 12 weeks and got it right. Thoroughly recommended.

I am worse later in the day. Some mornings I feel OK, just a bit tired, but today I felt pants. god only knows how I will feel come 9pm. I've got bed and bath x2 to do first. Wish me luck.

msdynamo · 01/05/2008 18:02

Was in Gap today buying a pair of maternity trousers, as my stomach is really pressing on my jeans. The shop assistant asked me how many months pregnant I was. When I said 6 weeks she looked at me like I was mad. I suddenly really felt embarrassed to be buying maternity clothes so early but the fact is my clothes are really uncomfortable at the mo. Any one else having this problem?

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 18:06

Sorry Mrsdynamo, no help from me, I think I am starting to show slightly but so far, normal clothes are ok! Otoh, it could just be a result of the Snickers craving

ChutneyMary, I'm lol @ your 'piss on your chips' comment!

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/05/2008 18:11

I've just been to vote with the DSs and DS2 started to cry when we came out of the polling station. I asked him what was up and he said between sobs 'where's the boat? where's the boat? We going on the boat mummy?' It was so hard not to laugh.

IceCube · 01/05/2008 18:14

Gadget - you're about a week later than me and if I remember correctly I was fine a week ago, just tired, so you may be in for some sickness yet. (don't know if that is reassurring or not )

MsDynamo - I've been bloated since I found out, at first I thought it was bloating from my cycle but it never went down and I gave up and went and bought a size up in a pair of jeans I had bought recently (so no one would notice I was wearing new clothes!!) When I'm lounging about I have some lovely comfy jogging bottoms with a loose elasticated waist, very stylish.

kayzisexpecting · 01/05/2008 18:15

Hello everyone.

Fantastic Katie I gave up a few months before conceiving DS and it was so hard as I didn't use any help. Good on you.

Msdynamo I have to wear Maternity clothes or use a elastic band to be able to wear normal jeans.

Welcome inspectorgadget

Please dont worry about no morning sickness. I had none with DS and I have had none really with this one. I have been sick 3 times since I found out. Thats probably more to do with eating crappy food.

mibbes · 01/05/2008 18:18

Hello and welcome inspectorgadget there are loads of us on here worried about lack of symptoms so join in the paranoia ! Congrats on long-awaited PG
msdynamo shop assisstant is clearly a witch - ignore her !
cococat IKWYM about not being as sociable as usual - I feel like we have been in hiding for weeks now and we are starting to get cabin fever. I have been putting people off telling them we are seeing other friends... it is getting confusing ! We are away this weekend with friends for a 'boozy' weekend so they will be the first people we tell - am really nervous as they don't want kids and the bloke has already told us he'd be gutted if we ever had a baby - charming ! Am not sure breaking the news will be the best start to the weekend, but hey ho there is no way I'd get away with any non-drinking excuse so we have no option.
Oh and the reason I stopped running was that I had a bleed and MW said best to lay off vigourous exercise like running - so have been walking and cycling instead. There is no reason to stop if you have had no bleeding.

mibbes · 01/05/2008 18:22

nandos all the best with tomorrow's scan
Becky LOL at DS thinking he was going on a boat !
kayz what is the elastic band trick ?

kayzisexpecting · 01/05/2008 18:28

You put it round the button through the hole and then back round the button again. Thats what I have to do until my maternity work uniform arrives.

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 18:53

mibbes, we had friends like yours as well. I'd only just found out when they started going on about how we're the only friends they had that didn't have kids & wasn't it great! Hope you have a fun weekend!

snowwombat · 01/05/2008 19:14

Hi girls, Good luck to you Londoner's on a new mayor.Ah, the benefits of living in the sticks!
Trying to catch up with the thread, a few days away and it implodes! Hello to our newbies and welcome. Sympathy to those with MS, mine has continued to get worse, vomit every day, a complete bastard at work as there is no privacy in the loos- they come off the patient waiting area! My dearest colleagues are in on the news and v v good at appearing with the peppermint tea.

Been a very scary few days, had a bleed on Tuesday morning. Someone was clearly looking after me as the midwife rang during it and arranged an appt at EPAS yesterday. As I didn't have much pain, I wasn't a immediate priority which was both good and bad. We went to EPAS, they were lovely and scanned without a wait. Gel on the tummy and there we had a heartbeat and no bleeding around the sac. Midwife appointment tomorrow, they are also being great- phone to check all ok and flexible with appts as DP and I live 2.5hrs apart during the week and we can see them late Friday or anytime saturday!

Take care of yourselves make sure someone gets you that cup of tea! Nandos good luck at EPAS. I am hoping for a long weekend reprieve from the MS, we have grand plans for walking up a large mountain in Wales and our first camping trip of the year.

Verso · 01/05/2008 19:27

Wow this thread is busy!

Glad everyone's bearing up ok - either dealing with morning sickness, or the stress of no morning sickness.

I have my second scan tomorrow morning and I'm quite scared. I'll be 9w1d. We saw the HB two weeks ago - but with my last pregnancy we saw the HB at 7w5d and then at my next scan at 9w6d found out the baby had died at 8wks.

Sorry to be such a downer, but I'm wibbling and could do with a hug. I told my boss today because I've had to tell her twice in the past year about miscarriages by phoning from the hospital, and this time I thought it would be better if she knew there was a possibility ahead of time. She was fantastic - really supportive and great so that's at least one worry off my mind!

Sorry for the total 'me' post but am a bit worried!

kayzisexpecting · 01/05/2008 19:47

Verso You deserve a ME post!!

You know we are all here for you tomorrow. Try not to worry about it if you can and try to get some sleep this evening. Think positive.

I am still not sure about having a private scan. I do think I will treat myself to one.

hattyyellow · 01/05/2008 19:53

Hi Verso absolutely everything crossed for your scan tomorrow - you poor thing I can see why you're so nervous, hope it's all okay for you.

snowwombat glad you're okay - your midwife service sounds amazing - i had to fight to see mine before 12 weeks!

mibbes maybe your friends will suddenly get broody when they see how happy you guys look! We have had to tell much more people than we wanted to - we are staying with friends this weekend who are both doctors, i can't even swing the old antibiotics not drinking trick as they'd immediately ask which ones they were and tell me it was fine really to drink! I'm so tired I think they'd guess anyway..

msdynamo everyone shows differently at different times - I'm really bloated and I definitely look pregnant by the end of the day - am trying to find some maternity trousers online at the moment..

chutneymary i am also so tired by end of day. Bathtime is an absolute killer you have all my sympathy! I can't wait until the summer when they can just have a splash in the paddling pool some nights!

becky that's so funny - your DS's sound lovely. Glad there are other mums-of-3-to-be around!

inspectorgadget welcome - you are describing what's going on in my head all day too! it's so annoying not being able to tell everyone and not even feeling you can believe you're having a baby until the first trimester has gone by sooooooo agonisingly slowly..

Not much news from me! One of my DD's has a horrible fluey bug so up all night with her and attempting to crawl through today. Other DD has been right as rain and up for noisy energetic games - today has gone on for about a million years . I kept suggesting we play doctors (where I lie down and close my eyes and they cover me with blankets - but no!)

Am trying to summon up the energy to have a bath and pack for our weekend away- luckily the couple we're staying with are expecting another baby in a few months so we will be on same wavelength .

ChutneyMary · 01/05/2008 19:54

VWerso my love good luck for tom. Will be thinking of you. I won't say don't worry as i expect that's not possible but try to be positive. You are more likely to be OK than not. Big love to you darling.

Welcome Insp G and other new people, good to see you.

hattyyellow · 01/05/2008 19:54

hi kay I'm very tempted by private scan too - having said that I have no idea how much they cost!

snowwombat · 01/05/2008 20:00

Verso fingers and toes crossed for you tomorrow, will be thinking of you

kayzisexpecting · 01/05/2008 20:08

Its £120 for one at the place in York, which is closer but its £70 for the one in Leeds.

hattyyellow · 01/05/2008 20:19

Kay that's really spooky - we are up North and I presume most people are down South. I've just been recommended the Leeds place by a local friend! What do you get for your £? Is it just scan or screening tests as well?

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/05/2008 20:21

Verso big hugs also from the BendyLegs corner. We'll all be thinking of you tomorrow

I feel sick this evening. Bathtime and bedtime routines are a killer - I find I just let the DSs run rings around me at bathtime while I wilt in the corner.

I'm waiting for my tea to cook - ooh hang on DH has just offered to take over the cooking!

kayzisexpecting · 01/05/2008 20:23

Just the scan but I think you can have the Nuchal Scan and the normal scan for £100

Here is the website.

EffiePerine · 01/05/2008 20:42

Good luck for tomorrow Verso. Waiting must be hellish.
