Alex is having a bath with the other wo at 8pm, and they go to bed whilst he feed at 8:30, then he goes down at about 9pm, sleeps through til about 1pm and then it depends on me, if I pull him over and have a cuddlefeed he wakes up at 3 and 5, if I sit up and feed him properly, each boob, wind etc he sleeps til about 6ish, so depends how lazy I'm being

sagitta · 29/04/2008 14:39

by the way, did anyone have a sweep that they think worked - and how long before labour did you have it? I suppose I'm asking - if mine is tomorrow afternoon and it works, how long have I got?

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 16:17

where is everyone today??

all with their new lo no doubt [does very face at everyone while throwing an overdue strop!]

sagitta · 29/04/2008 16:40

Hi carey - it's just you and me! We should enjoy all this time and sleep while it lasts . we'll be moaning on about sore nipples before we know it!

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 16:42

so true! i was wondering about sweep re: how long before anything starts to happen as i have mine on Thursday (and I am so excited!!)

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 29/04/2008 16:43

Well been to the MW - last appointment. Have to go for a sweep next Thursday - I am hoping the baby is here before then!! Carey you can let me know how yours goes okay! Are you having yours at the hospital?

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 16:46

yeah having mine at farnborough, DP SIL had hers there and said they were fab!

Cx

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:10

I'm still here too. Have just had acupuncture and am reeeeaaally curious if it works. The doctor said he was sure it would work, but what else could he have said the only thing I've got so far is a very tight tummy but I consider this pretty normal at 40+5
my sweep will be on friday, if baby has dropped until then. last friday it was only 4/5 engaged.

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 17:13

eva - im 40+6 and not engaged at all

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:19

they won't do the sweep then, right? (my MW is very nice but she has a veryvery heavy welsh accent, so sometimes, wenn she tells me something, after about 5 times checking back, I just give up and nod...)

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 17:22

eh??? dont they do it unless baby is engaged?

when i went midwife last week we werent engaged and I dont feel any different now, therefore I am presuming that baby still not engaged.

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:28

if the waters break after a sweep and the baby is not engaged enough, it's possible that the umbilical cord drops out. or so I thought the MW said. but maybe it's different for you as you're having the sweep at the hospital. mine will be at the surgery.

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:30

but I could have understood this completely wrong, you know. english is not my first language...

VictorianSqualor · 29/04/2008 17:31

Alex wasn't engaged properly when they attempted my sweep.
I had one at hospital and one at home (Well as I said 'attempted') the only reason they couldn't do it was because I wasn't dilated, I'd be surprised if baby being engaged meant anything tbh.
AFAIK, it's an average of 24-48 hours of labour kicking in after a sweep, once you've had it go for a walk, have sex and drink RLT, bouncing on abirthing ball before the sweep will help baby engage.
Good Luck, can't wait for you to join us on the 'other side'

VictorianSqualor · 29/04/2008 17:32

eva were they talking about cord prolapse? That's what happens when cord comes out before baby basically and baby crushes it so stopping the blood/oxygen flow.

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:38

hope it's not the dark side...

thanks for the hints. I've already told DP to come along for the appointment. just to have someone who walks with me, of course

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:39

Yes, I think that's what the MW was talking about.

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 17:45

ive been taking EPO for almost 2 weeks now and RL for 4 so hopefully its done something down there also been having loads of sex. I did read somewhere though that in order to get the maximum benefit from the active agents is for them to be digested.....

(i havent told DP this though )

eva07 · 29/04/2008 17:51

I've been taking EPO and RL too.
Carey, I think this story was made up by a man. If there were maximum benefit from taking it orally, they would just give you a pill to swallow at the hospitals, not pessaries

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 17:51

LOL! so true

PortAndLemon · 29/04/2008 17:59

Carey, the active ingredients are prostaglandins, which are fatty acids and would be broken down by lipase in the stomach and have no effect. Similarly they used prostaglandins to treat male impotence pre-Viagra and those had to be inserted as a penile suppository... prostaglandins just aren't taken orally for anything. Men make up the "orally" stuff...

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 18:16

soooo lad about that! thanks PAL

chipmonkey · 29/04/2008 18:23

Hi folks, thanks Denny for good luck vibes!
Not sure if I'll get a chance to log on again tonight as Mum is coming up later and have a few last-minute things to do
Have to be in hospital for 9.30am tomorrow and hang around for CS, obviously emergencies take precedence over electives, but will text Peachy as soon as I have news!

VictorianSqualor · 29/04/2008 18:50

Ugh, my house is a sad house atm, the kitten died, for some reason it wasnt able to feed from mum and has just passed away in my hands
Cue floods of tears from me, DD and DS! whilst we buried it.

Carey87 · 29/04/2008 18:55

good luck tomorrow chipmonkey
