There's an M&S near the hospital I'll be going to. Looks like it's going to be a leisurely tour for me then. Waters break, nip across to Sainsburys to get rest of hospital bag and ensure I get my years supply of free nappies. Then I could nip up to M&S whilst DH tries to find a space in hosp car park (should waste at least an hour).

Forget to say, looks likes I'm joining the SPD sufferers. Been referred to physio. It's not too bad at the moment though, the few times I have experienced severe pain have been self inflicted in some way (yoga class, long walks, etc).

goingfor3 · 29/04/2008 18:34

Needahand, I would feel the same about the holiday. It's your last one as a couple it shohld be about you and your dp. I hope you get the break you need.

Neenz, I'm so desperate for my baby to be out but must admit that when I saw you could be induced next week at 37 weeks it gave me a shock to realise how close it is for some of us!

I wonder if Waitrose or John Lewis have a freebie policy too, I'll happily spend the last few days of pregnacy in JL in the hope I go into labour if I get some nice goodies from them!

littlelamb · 29/04/2008 19:09

Hello ladies, is it ok to join this thread? I am due on 1st June with my second (already have a dd, 3.10) and I think it might be better for me to post here rather than the general pregnancy forum- you are all going through the same things as me . I am 35+2 and have had bad period type pains today. Has anyone else had this? Have had a bit of a nightmare week, in hospital twice for monitoring because of my blood pressure, and generally feeling a bit yuck

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 19:15

Wow, Neenz you could be a Mummy next week

Sophie - you fly into Salzburg, it's 45 minutes drive from us.

PP - here is our website, so you can pass it on.

and if you buy one of these cards you get free entrance into 190 places, including fabulous spas, bathing lakes, outdoor pools, castles, museums, cable cars, day in Salzburg, summer toboggan run etc etc. They are fantastic value.

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 19:40

HI Littlelamb, welcome to the chattiest antenatal group on MN, sounds like you've had a rough week, I'm sure things will get better now that you're sharing with us!
I'm due on 7th June , my 3rd boy, the other 2 are 8 and 6. I'm getting those sharp stabbing pains in the pelvis area every so often as baby grinds his head against the bone I think.

Upsidedowncake · 29/04/2008 19:56

Welcome Littlelamb - we do talk a lot but we all get to know each other pretty well. Sorry you've been in hospital with high BP. How frequently are you being monitored? I hope you feel better soon. Are you on medication?

I have BP issues too, but mine are stress-related, so am working at home for the rest of this pregnancy.

On that subject, thank you all for your comments re performance appraisal. I am feeling a bit calmer about it, but just wish it would go away. I am worried that I am going to be blamed for the project that sent me off sick with stress, and then I'll burst into tears and then the whole thing will be ugly. I used to so confident and strong at work - now I'm a wimp. It's so pathetic.

PregnantPenguin · 29/04/2008 20:45

Welcome LittleLamb - love the name! Sorry things have been a bit rubbish, you're in the right place if you need a rant.

Have just spent far too much time investigating a holiday in Austria! DH has decided June next year or even possibly a ski break....

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 29/04/2008 21:11

Welcome Littlelamb

LauraT · 29/04/2008 21:57

Neenz re: itching, do you mean your bilirubin level? if it's only 16 I doubt that they'll do anything about it, it's only very very marginally raised and unlikely to be the cause of your itch last week at that level - normally needs to be well over 50 to cause any itch at all!

Rolf · 29/04/2008 22:12

Welcome Littlelamb - sorry about your BP. I've had lots of period pain-type cramps too - all a sign that things are moving in the right direction, I reckon

Sorry to hear about all the SPD sufferers.

Good luck tomorrow, Neenz. Hope your babies get an extra bit of time cooking!

Deb - I think Aidan and Ethan are both lovely names, with a personal preference of Aidan. I like the sound of it with your boys' naems too.

I have really set my heart on 2 names that DH hates. It's fair enough that he hates them - it was his instinctive reaction to them when I first mentioned them a month or so ago and he still feels the same way about them (I'm not nagging him, honestly!). But until another name comes along that I love just as much, it's hard to get them out of my head and start liking any other name.

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 22:36

Sounds good PP

Rolf - hope your dh comes round to your way of thinking re the names.

I've heard from Ernest and she's finally in, spent all day yesterday unpacking , loves the house and sounds happy.

night everyone

goingfor3 · 30/04/2008 06:13

Morning ladies,

Great to hear that Ernest is happy with her new home!

I woke at four and haven't been able to get back to sleep. I'm starting to get neurotic as I was thinking how much I really do not like people other than my dp, mum and my children holding or even touching my new born baby. I found watching people holding my girls really hard and feel even more neurotic about it this time. I know I should be concentrating on ways to over come this but instead I'm desperatly thinking of ways to avoid other people touching the baby.

debinaustria · 30/04/2008 06:22

Last to leave and first to arrive this morning - I am so dedicated to Mumsnet

How's everyone today, things have calmed down on the mil front here - so I won't be worrying you all with that today. Off shopping this morning, having my hair cut this afternoon - am in desperate need!!

I have another big worry about the birth - I will be in hospital for 4-5 days (the norm here) what if there's no internet access? What will I do without MN? And after all that time how on earth will I catch up when I get home? There could be 40 pages of chat!!!

debinaustria · 30/04/2008 06:30

Oh g43 we xposted , I'm not the 1st here

Why don't you like other people holding/touching your baby? Just wondered if you knew why we might be able to give you advice as to how to overcome it.Sorry you had a bad night.

goingfor3 · 30/04/2008 06:35

Hello Debs,

I think I just feel really protective over my babies which is probably down to the miscarriages I had making the pregnancies very stressful for me. It really does bother me which I know is silly.

sophiewd · 30/04/2008 07:52

Morning all, no breakfasts today bu of to the accountant with last years bits and pieces so one less thing to worry about in the months to come.

Debs- would imagine that your MIL was probably embarrassed about having to tell Aunt and cousin because you get on with her well don't you. I guess she was caught up with the excitement of it all.

Well muscles are really hurting today, swore alot in the middle of the night when I had to urn over and off to get some more ralgex today and once Tescos turn up this afternoon then I can pack my bag.

Hope everyone has a good day, must be getting near some ML now.

debinaustria · 30/04/2008 08:07

You're bound to be protective of your babies G43, but maybe just look at the tiny proportion of the day that other people hold them compared with all the time you do, especially if you're bfeeding, or use a sling then no-one else gets their hands on.

Sophie,Wish I had a Tesco order coming - I do miss my internet grocery shopping. We're off shopping today as it's a bank holiday here tomorrow for 1st May.

aberdeenhiker · 30/04/2008 08:28

neenz - 37 weeks would be a huge accomplishment with twins! I have two friends who had twins and neither made it to 30 weeks so I'm so impressed with your body's gestation power!

deb, thanks for the update on ernest!

DH still away offshore and I was starting to imagine what I'd do if the baby came early but I took a look at myself sideways in the mirror and this belly has not dropped yet so I think I'm well safe.

It's a cloudy morning here and I'm watching the boats come into the harbour. Strange to think that in one month I'll be off work for the best part of a year - work is so much of my life most of the time!

bitofadramaqueen · 30/04/2008 09:25

Morning all, and welcome to littlelamb. G43 sorry to hear about your anxiety, dont worry that your feelings are silly. Is there someone you can chat to about it (as well as us obviously!) that could help reassure you? MW, health visitor etc?

Right, today's drama from me - my ankles have completely disappeared!!!! While I dont have the slimmest ankles at the best of time, my rather substantial calves have completely merged into my rather wide feet . Do I need to be concerned? I know I should just call my MW but seeing her tomorrow anyway, and after yesterday's telling off for being pale I cant face another patronising lecture about 'doing too much' when I am taking it very easy.

Upsidedowncake · 30/04/2008 09:29

Good morning ladies.

Glad Ernest is doing well.

Neenz - 37 weeks is coming up so fast. It seems only a couple of days ago that you had your scan and found there were two of them!

LOL, Debs and G43 racing to be first on at 6.15 this morning

G43, who might want to hold the baby? Are you worried about visitors or health professionals?

Aberdeen, what does your DH do? If you went into labour, would he be able to get back quickly? And what are you doing with DS when you go into labour? (Was it you who had the lovely blog? I'd love to see it again if you can post a link)

Upsidedowncake · 30/04/2008 09:31

Xpost, dramaqueen. My understanding is that cankles are very common in pregnancy but dodgy when they are twinned with high blood pressure and / or protein in urine. When did you last have your BP taken?

bitofadramaqueen · 30/04/2008 09:34

Thanks UDCake - I had an unexpected trip to hospital last week due to dodgy headache/vision problem and my BP was monitored for a couple of hours then and it was perfect. Am due to go back to MW tomorrow for routine appointment.

nettiehay · 30/04/2008 09:43

Phew - I've just caught up on 5 days worth of posts!!

Now, I need to do some work... only 3 1/2 weeks of work left to gto with about a million things to do, but I'm too addicted to mumsnet and keep wandering off!!

aberdeenhiker · 30/04/2008 09:49

G43 - I remember that too - especially wanting to have DS to myself whenever he cried, he was my baby and I should soothe him.

debs - I love your place - what age is recommended to start kids skiing? I think I was about 7 and my brother was 5, but it's hard to remember exactly. I can't wait for family ski vacations - I'm happy to just be outside so I wont mind being stuck on the bunny hills for a couple years.

Upside - my DH is mostly office based, but right now he's offshore in the middle of the North Sea. Apparently they will divert a helicopter to bring him home if I'm in labour and if it's daytime, but if it's nighttime, we're looking at a minimum of 12 hours before he can make it to shore. And if it's foggy for a few days, he's stuck tight. So no - he can't get back quickly. He's promised not to go offshore after I'm 36 weeks though as DS came at 38 weeks. (I'm 35 weeks tomorrow).

josey's DH goes offshore too - I can't remember what they'd planned to do - josey?

My DS is going to be farmed out to friends while I'm in labour - I've got a list of people I can call. I'm a bit stressed about it though and I need to pack him a bag as well as me and the new baby!

my website's at www.spiritofplace.com. Someone else had one too - was it's dylansmum? I have to admit that I'm way more honest on here than on my website though - since my boss and senior management at work all know about it!

Rolf · 30/04/2008 09:51

Goingfor3 - sorry you're anxious about other people holding the baby. Would it be possible to mention it to a friend who could tactfully let other friends know? Or could you hold the baby in a bfeeding positive when people come to visit so it looks as though the baby's having a feeding marathon?

Needahand - how worrying about your SiL. I hope she gets the care she needs.

I was walking back from school this morning and it occured to me that I might really struggle without a double buggy. I have one in storage (ha!) but it's not suitable for a newborn. I've been hoping that a combination of a pram/buggy/sling/buggy board depending on the journey will be sufficient but now I'm not so sure. I'll look out for a cheap one or borrow one, I think. I really don't want to spend a fortune on a fancy new one - I'd rather either hold on till the baby is big enough to use the one I have, or buy a fancy one that's suitable for the baby when she's bigger. What are other people doing?

I got a call from DD's childminder yesterday to say that one of her other mindees has chicken pox. So I'm inspecting DD regularly for spots. My first reaction was "oh no, I can't deal with chicken pox right now" but I guess if she catches it it will be over with before the baby is here so at least I don't have to worry about a newborn getting it. And there's nothing I can do anyway - the horse has definitely bolted in terms of her being exposed to it.

My lovely doula is coming over this morning. I was telling a friend who hadn't heard of a doula and when I said it meant "slave" she started sniggering and asking if he would be oiled and wearing skimpy briefs - she thought that would be an excellent distraction in labour .
