at the moment a mazda 626 but we'll need something bigger for 3 car seats across the back

to be fair, the boot in it is fantastic - bigger than my first flat

OMG, I'm away on Tuesday for 4 nights and I'm panicking about how the heck I'll keep up with the thread. It's already jumped 4 pages since Friday! Don't think DH would accept this as a reason for not going on holiday though. Why are men so unreasonable?!

Yay!!!! Got our pram today! I couldn't wait to rip open the boxes and play with it, it was like Christmas came early! It's currently living with the in-laws though dizzy* so worry not! Although the car seat is here, for practice purposes obviously. Not because I'm impatient or anything... I got a bit annoyed with the raincover though, can anylone work those things? Mind you, it's a good thing I live in Scotland, probably won't need it that much.

Sazzles, I was reading about your DH's birthday and I can't believe you have a log fire! My auntie has one and I used to love falling asleep in front of it on Christmas Day, with the Vicar of Dibley on in the background!

I totally agree with you on the rubbish maternity clothes in Mothercare CaptainCaveman. I was in there yesterday trying on swimming costumes and tankinis and they were awful! I tried on a one-piece costume and it looked like I had one massive bump from boobs downwards! I finally decided that a two-piece tankini type thing would look better, as it had a better shape, but trying to squeeze the boobs into my normal size wasn't happening, but the next size up was too big on the bottom. Grr! I've no idea what to do now.

I'm glad someone else mentioned Dr Who alittlebitshy! I'm in love with David Tennant at the mo and have even had a few nice dreams about him! Think DH would divorce me if he knew the extent of them!

Nice to hear I'm not alone with my tinkle issue. Crossing legs while standing very still is how I'm coping but that doesn't always do the trick. I've also been doing kegles FOREVER so WTF, I should have HULK STRENGTH down there. Couldn't tell you about the smell because as soon as the issue started I popped out for the tiny incontinence pads. I'm too busy to worry about odor and wetness. They are WONDERFUL by the way but cost a little more than regular sanitary pads. Funny story about these wonderful pads....remember my crap day Friday. Well I purchase several items from my local store including two bags of INCONTINENCE PADS which I attempted to discreetly hide in my basket at the register. The bitch nice cashier nicely dumps all my stuff out of the basket instead of checking things one at a time which of course causes my INCONTINENCE PADS to be clearly displayed ON TOP of the pile. Taking a deep breath I let the embarrasement go because in my heart I'm sure other pregnant women have had to purchase the same thing. Well it gets better. I pop over to DD's preschool to pick her up and find I'm MISSING A SHOPPING BAG.......the one with the INCONTINENCE PADS. We have only a few minutes to make it from school to the doctor's appointment so I drive like a mad woman back to the store, run in with DD yelling for lunch, only to find the cashier is being FILMED by the local news at her register. I slink off in a corner and ask a sales person what happens if you forget a bag. I'm directed to the service desk where the lady gives me a crap look stating "do you realize how many people say they've left a bag but haven't?" I'm required to tell her what's in the bag so she may identify it. So at this busy desk I say, "You can't miss it. It has INCONTINENCE PADS in it. Oh and a bottle of lotion." Oh the joys of pregnancy.

Awww, TS! It never rains but it pours! It always happens like that when you are trying to not make an issue of something. I bet if you ran up and down the aisles of the supermarket clutching your incontinence pads singing a song about it, no-one would have batted an eyelid!

TwilightSurfer · 27/04/2008 23:39

Hazie I'm very of your pram arrival. My new Joovey Tandem Stroller isn't due to ship out until middle of this week. DD has ask about it daily. We can't wait to start using it FOR HER...dizzy....then when the baby arrives she'll switch to the tandem seat.

Translation Request: What is a BOOT?

Florida people size.... Captain's actually right on the money. Most residents in Florida are over the age of 50, retired and quite ROUND. Actually obesity is epidemic in the US. You are what you EAT!!

TS Boot = trunk in America-speak!! Don't be too about my pram, yours will be here soon and you'll be able to use it right away - yay!

TwilightSurfer · 27/04/2008 23:49

Thanks Hazie I was totally lost with all the boot references. For me boots go on your FEET.

No problem TS, I knew that watching all that tv, esp. American sitcoms, would pay off at some point!

Dizzy, I need some name advice if you get the chance! We totally love the first names we've picked but can't agree on middle names. I know you don't really need them, but I my dad, bro and I all have middle names and my mum doesn't. I always felt bad that my gran didn't give her one! I originally wanted Ruby as the baby's first name, but DH isn't so keen and has said that we can use it as a middle name, but I don't think it goes with Gabriella. My middle name is Marie and I think it sounds nice with Gabriella, but don't know if it's just a cop out using a name that I already have IYSWIM. DH's middle name is Andrew which I think goes well with Cole, but feel the cop out thing on that too. Argh! If anyone else wants to jump in too, please feel free!

TwilightSurfer · 28/04/2008 00:49

Hazie, Gabriella Louise and Cole Alexander popped into my mind the minute I read your post. Just seemed like good names to YELL when you're scolding.

Dizzy how are you coming with your own baby names list??

Trying to balance the budget here and appear to have Sazzles accounting skils. Will have to supplement my checking with a bit from DH's this week. OOPS!

See you ladies around lunch (yours that is).
Night

morning all!! another 5am toilet trip for me and I managed to stomp about the house like a bear with a sore head this morning getting kids ready for nursery and dh ready for work - was not a pleasant bunny to anyone today

am now sitting trying to get on with my own college work (I start my work experience with cancer research on Thurs) and waiting on the carpet man to come and measure up the room I'm needing re done

was a stunning day here yesterday, last night and this morning it is CHUCKING it down - only in bloody scotland!

hazie no problem, will have a think for some middle names - can I have a clue re your last name - initial and how many syllables? well done on the pram at inlaws!

sazzles we'll need a bigger car anyway for the 3 seats and whatever it is it will need to have at least the same sized boot as the mazda, when we trot off to ireland and have the dog too there is no way we can go any smaller - poor dog prefers being in the boot away from the kids anyway lol

cyteen am glad the anniversary passed as 'pleasantly?' as possible, what a lovely dh you have

ts names, ah names! we still have all the boys names we like from the first two not needing them!!!

jude
corin
caleb
roan
cassius
reuben

probably with some form of family middle names as thats what the girls have

we don't mind having a handful to choose from as in our experience we like to check baby suits name before announcing it. dd1 got hers pretty much straight away but dd2 was more deliberation

girls - now here in lies the dilema

both my girls have longer names of which we use shortened versions

dd1 - Isabella - known as Ella
dd2 - Alexandra - known as Lexie

middle names relating to family/friends for both of them, then each have to as well ffs (apparently an irish thing - VG forgive me if am wrong)

SO for this one, if it is another girl are we still in the land of long name needing shortened to keep in with the already set by first two criteria or can we move away from than

dd1 was named after a beloved great aunt of mine but we used Ella as we both loved it AND we don't have an Ella in the family although we do already have an Izzy and great aunt was Isa

dd2 is Alexandra as I desperately wanted Lexie but dh would only use it as a shortened version of Alexandra as he was worried about it becoming 'sexy lexy'
I personally think that there are worse nicknames

am thinking along the lines of
Charlotte - lottie
Beatrice - Bea
Camille - Millie

but nothing really jumping out and smacking me in the face this time

right, have just outed myself as terrible baby namer and revoke my right to give advice

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 09:31

oh why oh why don't I ever review my posts

it SHOULD read that the girls both have 2 middle names

Buckets · 28/04/2008 09:57

Some shortenable girls' names for you Dizzy:

Caroline/lyn (Carrie)
Marianne (Maggie, Annie, Mari)
Cassandra (Cassie)
Penelope (Penny)
Alethea (Ali, Thea)
Emmeline (Emmy, Linny)
Christiana (Chrissie, Anna)
Geraldine (Geri, Dina)

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 09:58

thanks buckets
I had suggested Penelope with Nell as an option but dh was decidedly unimpressed lol

Buckets · 28/04/2008 10:52

Anyone started compiling their hospital bag yet? I'm chuffed to say I haven't yet but I know deep down that's just because I haven't got anywhere to store it while the bedrooms are in chaos. Will start baby shopping/acquiring too in earnest once I have storage sorted out for the baby's room. Let me start my list here in secret because it's driving me crazy.

Need for bag:
Breastfeedable PJs for me
Big sanpads
Slippers/flipflops
Pack of newborn disps for hospital
Disposable breastpads for hospital
Carseat
Muslins
BF bra
Big cheap pants
V Pillow
Minifan - our hospital gets utterly stifling

Need for home:
Crib and cotbed sheets and Grobag for autumn
Kamillosan
Playmat/gym thing
Make some new washable wipes
Changing mat
Baby monitor (didn't use before but new house is different shape)

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 11:03

buckets get some aquacool spray too if your hosp is stuffly - its brilliant - think its called magicool, have used it both times as temp spiked during both labours

other than that no haven't done a damn thing, we have a REALLY busy May coming up so ignoring all things baby related until June

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 11:04

oh and remember you standard issue MN birthing blackberry so you can send us updates at all times

TwilightSurfer · 28/04/2008 11:20

Buckets I sat last night before bed going over the hospital list I made a little while back. I've managed to get the list down to hopefully fit into a mid-sized suitcase with wheels. It would be so much easier to have the baby at home.

I've been hearing on the news stuff about DH/DPs not being allowed to stay overnight in the maternity wards there. Is this true?? How do you manage if that's the case? My DH became my chambermaid basically the last go round. This time we'll have DD with us (after the birthing experience is over).

Raining here too but I WILL NOT COMPLAIN. It's washing away all the pollen that's killing me.
