Here's our shiney, new and slightly ameneded thread to reflect our main topic of conversation recently! Really didn't want to mention the cheese and rice in the same sentence, but as it is a favourite with so many of you, I had to add it in, sorry to Hanaflower!

Right i'm off to have left over Spag Bol and then to bed. See you all tomorrow. x

SoExcited · 15/04/2008 17:48

I got maternity bras from M&S - went for the lightly padded as they seemed more supportive. The only problem is that they are rubbing slightly by my arms. I think it's cos they suggested I got 36 and wear on the tightest hooks, so i've got growing room but this means it's a bit closer to my arms (does that make any sense?!). They try to fit you in a cup that's too big as well so you have growing room, but you end up with dents in the padded kind, or wrinkes in the unpadded?!!

tegan · 15/04/2008 17:53

I have been wearing the nursing bras i bought when i had dd2 nearly 4 years ago.

They are the comfiest thing i can wear as i am guessing i have gone for a c to about a d.

Will have to get measured i think.

Also cmw gave me the due date of 20 nov but just been looking on some websites and all of them are coming up with 26th nov. Got scan on 7th may so will find out then.

SoExcited · 15/04/2008 17:56

I got a different EDD from midwife too - I worked out 15th online, GP got 16th (as didn't allow for leap year on cardboard wheel), midwife got 19th.

I'm hoping they go with 19th though, as it needs to be 16th or after for me to qualify for my occupational maternity pay!

juanitad · 15/04/2008 17:59

Tegan - I also have scan date of 7th May, seems like ages away doesn't it?!! I have booked a private scan, as it is a nuchal thingy scan, after the discussion on here a while ago, I thought I would read up about it and have decided to get one. I seem to remember that at my booking in appt, the midwife said that if I did go ahead with the private nuchal scan, I should cancel the appointment the hospital give me for the normal scan, so that somebody else could have the appointment, given hpw busy they were. What does everyone else think of this? Is there any point having 2 scans? Will the NHS scan tell me anything different to the private scan? Should I keep the NHS appt or cancel it? Not too sure really - anyone come across this before?

SoExcited · 15/04/2008 18:02

I was told a similar thing about antenatal classes. If I book NCT or another local one, not to book on the NHS one as they get full and have to turn people away! While the NHS scan is unlikely to see anything different, if you want it, take it. Just because you're paying for one shouldn't mean you aren't entitled to an NHS one.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 18:28

hana, I got my last bras in bravissimo and the fitter told me that the royal college of midwifes say underwired bras are OK, provided they are fitted well and you keep one step ahead of your changing size. A good frieb=nd of mine who is rather well endowed wore underwires all through her pregnancy abd is still feeding her 4mo old and hasn't had any issues.

I found underwires really uncomfy or I probably would have gone with them as cheaper and more choice! Royce Jasmine soft cup bras give you an OK shape, if a bit pointy!

oblomov, I sbstained all through my pregnancy with DD in the first trimester due to the two previous mcs but MW said there was no need. I think it depends on the reason for your mc though.

on that note, I have a very grizzly DD who has been pale and clingy for a few days now. there's chicken pox doing the rounds so I hope its not that.

SoExcited · 15/04/2008 18:32

I definitely feel more comfy without the wires - although trying to squish my boobs into bras that were clearly too small may have been part of the problem!!

LolaBella · 15/04/2008 19:43

Juanitad I would def keep NHS scan too. I'm having a Nuchal Scan next week and no sign at all of an NHS scan date through yet but will def be having both
I want to see my little one as much as poss

Heartmum2Jamie · 15/04/2008 19:53

I'm wearing a feeding bra from ds2, it's very comfy, lol!

I am loving the talk about nappies. I have been umming and ahhing about cloth for about 2 years, lol! I love the idea, but can never find any free samples as I thinkI would like to try different kinds before making my mind up.

OP posts:
mummyhill · 15/04/2008 20:04

Heartmum, I can't promise free samples but as you are fairly local I can come and show you all the different types of nappies and discuss their merits.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 20:13

I'm wearing random nursing bras from my underwear drawer, which seems to have all sorts of junk in it. Really need a clear out.
Does anyone on this thread live in Manchester or is it just me?

tegan · 15/04/2008 20:32

juani i don't think there is a limit on the amount of scans you can have but it's all to do with costing and making sure everyone gets one done.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 20:37

heartmum, a lot of nappy sellers will do trial packs of a few different sorts and then give you discount if you decide to buy. I know flame www.bumfluffnappies.com has a good trial session; if you decide after 28 days the nappies aren't for you, she refunds 70% or something like that.

We don't use cloth full time anymore (DD reacted to the elastic in the wraps), but I like to know that each real nappy we use is one less disposable in a landfill site. We probably use three or four real nappies a day and a couple of disposables.

Heartmum2Jamie · 15/04/2008 20:38

Mummyhill, that might be great! I was going to get in touch with the council and find out what schemes they offer too. I can see it being easy to get completely sucked in by all the cute nappies out there!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 20:38

and pinky, I'm the other side of the Pennines, in Leeds

Heartmum2Jamie · 15/04/2008 20:42

Oh, thanks for that Daisy, I will have a look. I have to admit to liking to "convienience" of disposables, but maybe I think it is easier as I have not tried cloth. It's definately something to think over.

Heartmum2Jamie · 15/04/2008 21:09

LOL Daisy! I am sure you will get plenty of hits from us lot! I may not actually buy any cloth (if I can talk dh into it) until baby actually arrives and I can see the shape of baby (long & skinny, or short and chunky!) I really should be ashamed of myself, my MIL bough us a pack of terry's muslins, wraps and pins when ds2 was born and we shoved them at the back of the cupboard and never looked at them. we only took them out to use them for burp & snot rags ot sure flats are the best thing for breastfed baby poop!

Hi guys.. thought I would let you know how my scan went! Well there was a heartbeat, woohoo... feeling alot better about being pregnant now!!

I was confirmed as 7.1wks which makes me due 1/12/08 so am going between the two threads as I would like to get to know but groups as you can never tell if your going to be early or late..

I hope everyone is feeling okay.. take care xxx

twinkle183 · 15/04/2008 21:20

I have tried the mothercare smart nappies - to begin with they leak but once you have washed them a couple of times then they don't anymore and they are really affordable too! £40 for 4 outer and 10 fabric liners but you can also buy the disposable liners aswell - sorry to butt in to your conversation but thought I would let you know!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 21:22

good news on the scan twinkle

heartmum, I have some terries for emergencies and BF poo always leaked out of the legs. They were a good back up though, ad cheap as chips these days! No good for wriggly 6mo+ babies though

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 21:23

and not butting in twinkle, it's good to see a review of them and know they work.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 23:32

Good to hear about your scan, Twinkle.
I think most nappies need to be washed a few times for them to reach full absorbency.
Just me in Manchester, then.

Roca · 15/04/2008 23:50

Evening everyone. I think I'm having a boy as my s*x drive has gone up during this pg which I put down to extra male hormones wizzing around somewhere! I tried to abstain for a bit but the urges soon took over!

Ahh - they've just has a little baby girl in shameless (am watching the +1 time)
