scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:06

clary sage stinks!

DH has just gone to get chocolate from the shop for me! We have tried our hardest this evening to get her out the natural way , lol!

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 20:14

I can't BF anymore. It's driving me crazy

scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:14

whats the matter?

Scampmum · 15/04/2008 20:37

Oh no, PFJ - share! Promise no pressure, just want to help. You have done such a fantastic job to manage this far with all you've been through.

moominsmummy · 15/04/2008 20:37

oo PFJ - whatssup?

My mum is here at the mo and is ex-BF counsellor so loads of advice on tap for next half hour before I go to bed - any questions welcome!

scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:38

oh and we are not going to make you

Scampmum · 15/04/2008 20:48

Scorpio, can your DH sling some of that chocolate this way? Major cravings.

scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:49

yes, of course.

arrgghh how long will i get for murdering DH if i claim insanity?

bunyanvillas · 15/04/2008 20:51

PFJ, what's up? Are you ok? Having problems this end too with the bf. It certainly isn't easy. Hope you are feeling ok.

VS - hurrah! Congratulations, and what a great weight! A great start for baby. Hope that you have been well-looked after in hospital and that you and babe are doing well.

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 20:53

It's just so hard to get him full up. I end up feeding him for an hour or more every time and its really bothering me. My uterus hurts loads when I do it, and its irritating me so much. I feel bad about it. MW says I need to get him to open his mouth loads and then deliver the aerolia as well as the nipple to get more milk to him, to fill him up quicker... but my boobs are so big and I can never get him to open his mouth that wide on my own and ...just ...argh...
I will keep at it.. its just really starting to PISS ME OFF.
How do you girls stand doing it?
Any advice?

moominsmummy · 15/04/2008 20:53

scorpio - don't worry as a good barrister will get you off with a diagnosis of "pregnancy psychosis" - has been done before!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:54

PFJ - sorry you know i havent BF before, though my doctor has given me cocodomal for afterpains and she said its afe for BF-ing too, maybe you should ask for some, it really helps.

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 20:56

my MW said no co-codamal(sp?).
No fair.

moominsmummy · 15/04/2008 20:57

PFJ - if your boobs are really swollen and difficult for him to latch onto at start of feed- can you try expressing a bit just to allow them to "deflate" a bit so he can latch on more easily?

is he actually feeding for all that time or is he a very "sucky" baby? My DS was and once I thought he'd had enough (about 40 mins) gave him a dummy - I know it can be tricky giving them a dummy so early but I had decided I didn't want to be a permanent milking machine! the fact he didn't bother about the milk supply being replaced with a dummy suggested he only wanted to suck for comfort alot of the time anyway

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 20:58

it is safe for BF-ing though. maybe see doctor?

chipmonkey · 15/04/2008 21:00

PFJ, it does get easier! Your boobs will settle down and get a bit less like footballs, also his mouth will get bigger and his latch will improve as a result. And your uterus will be less irritable as it shrinks.
Can't be that bad! I've spent 4.8 years doing it!

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 21:01

He's very sucky. Been trying a dummy.. an orthadonic one, but everytime he gets near me all he wants to do is either suck my boob or my nose. Ok.. after sucking my nose he gets upset its not my boob.. but its all the same. The hospital told me cocodamol is safe, MW said no.. so I might try it again. But tbh there is something about BFing that is just.. annoying me. Is that weird?
I feel so bad about it.

scorpio1 · 15/04/2008 21:02

dont feel bad, it must be hard. you have done very wel lto do this much, much better than me.

moominsmummy · 15/04/2008 21:04

it's cos you smell of milk to him - try handing him to DP to settle him with the dummy?

hope it gets easier - am off to bed now as v.pooped out - but will check thread again in morning..

PFJ - I can only sympathise as I'm having exactly the same problem. It is very difficult. I am trying to hang on in there, 2 weeks on. But I am literally chained to the sofa pretty much all day, and then up all night. As DH will be back to work next week and I have a 3 year old to look after and get to nursery etc, I may struggle. We have just introduced a 10pm top-up bottle of formula (just a couple of oz) to try and help. But I'm reluctant to give any more than that as it may affect my milk supply and I'm keen to try and continue with the bf. See how you do. If you manage to stay the course, great. But equally if you don't, try not to get too upset (easier said than done, I know). I lasted 5 weeks bf with dd before she went onto formula. 3 years on and she is healthy and happy and what more could anyone want. You must do what is best for you. As always, you'll find plenty of support on mn and there are gazillions of threads on the whole very subject!

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 21:04

Maybe its just an emotional thing. I have been waiting for the post natal depression fairy to visit me.. (very probable for me) and maybe this is the fairy? I got to try and keep at this...
Is it SO wrong to BF AND do half bottle feeds perhaps? That sure would help me.
Last night after 2 hours of BFing we surrendered to the bottle and he had it and was right off to sleep straight away...

Scampmum · 15/04/2008 21:05

PFJ, DD was the same and I did start using a dummy at some point (sorry, can't remember when). She did carry on taking a long time to feed, though. I promise it gets easier - I also had horrible afterpains and they eased relatively quickly (didn't have CS, though) - as I understand it afterpains are less common with CS as the uterus finds it harder to contract, so it means you have a sterling uterus and will lose your tum really quickly (looking on the bright side)!

It sounds like you're determined to carry on, which is great, but yes it is really annoying and painful to begin with. My afterpains also made me need the loo (number 2, sorry if TMI) which was really inconvenient!!

Do try and express (even just squidge out a bit/have a warm shower and watch it dribble out if you can't be bothered with the pump) - this should help the latch. Also start a thread on here re latching as there are loads of really experienced people and someone may just say one thing that clicks! I remember DD falling asleep at the boob/not sucking properly was an issue and blowing on her temple/above her ear worked well, as did tickling the palm of her hand.

bunyanvillas · 15/04/2008 21:06

Also, PFJ - the uterus contractions are blardy sore aren't they - I must admit I wasn't prepared for that. BUT ... they only lasted for 3 or 4 days. You might find that even by tomorrow the pain has lessened a bit.

ThePFJ · 15/04/2008 21:07

Thanks bunyanvillas.. I feel a bit better now. I hate being chained down for the whole feed. I think thats what is really pissing me off the most.. you hit the nail on the head there I think.
I guess I just need to relax and do my best right?

Thanks for helping me girls.
