Happy New Year everyone!

Following Katzguk's suggestion I've started up the new thread - hope no-one minds.

Well, I did absolutely nothing for New Year. I have the cold from hell so I was in bed by 9pm. I was very disappointed as we were supposed to be going to a party but I decided not to go as I wouldn't have enjoyed myself and then I'd have made dp miserable too. So, I celebrated by having a lemsip topup at 12 o'clock! (One for the books!) Hope you all had a nice time.

Have been reading your threads about what to buy and what not to buy. I started buying after Christmas as I want to start really enjoying this pregnancy now. Dp is incredibly worried that something will go wrong and we are tempting fate but I don't want to be walking on egg shells for the next 5 months .... yup 5 months already!!! Scary stuff!

Anyway, we have bought a Graco travel system as I have spent hours in the shops clipping and unclipping and puttin them up and down and I found Graco to be lightweight and really simple to use. Then I trawled the internet on boxing day and found that Toys'r'Us was doing some good deals.

Cot is going to be an Ikea special. They are so cheap, I just don't think you can argue and we are big fans of Ikea. However, if anyone has any experiences of this then let me know. We aren't bothering with the moses basket.

I've got a 2-way baby carrier from e-bay, which is still new apparently, although I haven't received it yet so I'll hold bck on judgement.

And then the mumsnet wanted and for sale boards are fantastic. I've got a bottle warmer and a travel cot through mumsnet. I'd reommend that anyone here use them.

There are three things which I need help with though:

  • steriliser; microwave or electric??? Any opinions?
  • breast pump; is there one which is comfortable and easy to use? I don't want to spend a fortune and then not be able to use it.
  • baby monitor; I definitely want one. Am planning on sitting in the garden over the summer, and baby might not want to be moved. Should I get a normal one? A digital one? Has anyone used an under mattress sensor type one? Need big help with this one.

Have bought myself some books on motherhood and new babies too. Am such a planner, I need to be having a good read now so I can put all the theory to practice in 5 months time!

Hope you are all well and not being sick any more! x

Oh Tessie - sorry for making you worry!!! I am here.

Last week my boss decided we are moving office in 2 weeks time so I have been run of my feet for the last week!!!!!

I also had some time off sick last week as I was suffering with terrible migranes.

I have been reading posts but am finding it hard to have time to contribute.

I have my 16 wk midwife appt today and I'm looking forward to hearing the bumps heartbeat!!!

I hope everyone is well and hopefully my time will free up a bit so I can chat with you guys more coz I MISS YOU !!!!!

Thanks for the concern - it's lovely to know I'm missed Hope your well Tessie!!!

Tessiebear · 18/01/2005 13:06

Hi Sweetheart - i have been off-line for weeks too!
I am fine thankyou - sickness has gone!!! Yipeee. I am 17 weeks and really looking forward to my 20 week scan! had my 16 week check last week and it was great to hear the heartbeat for the first time - i felt really emotional - i thought that third time round i would be an old pro, but actually i have been enjoying this pregnancy through fresh eyes!! When is your 20 week scan ??? Are you going to try and find out the sex??

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 13:25

My sickness is a dim and distant memory now (thank godness!!!) I feel fine now apart from being a little tired sometimes but on the whole my energy levels are up and I've even got a smidge of a sex drive

I am looking forward to my 20 week scan which is on the 25th Feb but I want to get today out of the way first. I find that I'm fine for a couple of weeks after a scan but then I start to panic again. It's wierd but I still can't quite believe I'm actually pregnant. I guess it's because we tried for so long!!!!!
So once I've heard the heartbeat today I can properly look forward to my scan.

Hopefully we will find out the sex at the scan but so far this little bundle has refused to be good at scan appointments so I'm just hoping it will "play ball"!!!!! It's not a disaster if we don't get it confirmed but we would ideally like to know.

What about you?? Will you be finding out the sex???

LipstickMum · 18/01/2005 13:26

Sweet are you coming to the meet-up?

Welshie, so glad your scan went well it's always nice when the sonogropher makes an effort! You bought maternity clothes!! I am jealous!! Today I relented and am in my old maternity jeans, they are so comfy, but massively baggy. I can't wait to go to the shops on Saturday and see what they have.

I'm so tired today, dp gets home early and I think I am going to have to crash out on the sofa when he does

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 13:34

Lipstick,

I'm going to give it a miss although I do feel gutted about missing it.

I am travelling to London on Monday to go to The Sanctuary for the day and I don't really want to do it twice.

Also, I have this wierd block about meeting internet people - I don't know why - I'm being wierd.
Although I was reading your posts earlier about the meet and felt jelous I was going to miss it.

I can't explain it!!! I just don't want to spoil what I get from MN - I know........ I'm a wierdo.

Hope you all have masses of fun - post next week about how great it was and maybe I'll be so gutted I'll come to the next one

mcmudda · 18/01/2005 13:34

JonahB - if it makes you feel any better, by the time I ended up in hospital with ds I had put on well over 3 stone - but I troughed my way through that pregnancy eating everything that wasn't nailed down. This time my appetite is really weird and only just getting back to normal now. I think I should make up for lost time and snaffle those 3 creme eggs in my cupboard

LipstickMum · 18/01/2005 13:46

Yes Sweet, you are weird . I completely agree, it's very unlike me to do something like this, I only fully committed a week or so ago. I have tried not to give it much thought in the meant time in case I back out! Well, perhaps we'll persuade you to come to the next one

Welshie, I just went onto the Top Shop website and didn't see more than 1 dress. There must be more of a selection in store.

Tessiebear · 18/01/2005 13:47

Congrats on your scan Welshie!!! Its a great feeling isnt it!!!!!
Sweetheart - after much thought i have decided to try and find out the sex. As you know we have 2 DS's and i have made no secret of the fact that i would LOVE a little girl. Now my scan approaches it has suddenly become more REAl... that baby inside me is ALREADY a boy or a girl and not finding out isnt going to make any difference so i might as well know. Its not that i will love a little boy any less it is just that i will have to accept that i will Never have a girl IYSWIM

Tessiebear · 18/01/2005 13:49

Sweetheart - dont feel bad about the meet-up thing! I am not going and feel similar in that MN and RL are two seperate entities!

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 13:56

Lipstick - I do think I'm wierd - because I would really love to come and I feel dissapointed that I'm not - I just can't bring myself to do it though!! Freak!!!!

I'm sure I will be at the next one though, especially if it's when I'm on maternity leave - that way it doesn't seem like such a struggle to travel into London!!!!!

Tessie, I can totally sympathise with your feeling's of wanting a girl - and you shouldn't feel guilty. We all know you'd be happy with either but there is nothing wrong with having a preference!!!!!
A friend of mine went through this last year and really beat herself up over it. You never know - you could try for number 4 !!!!!!!

Welshie, I'm so glad all is going well for you, especially after your shakey start. It's good to hear that everything is on the up for you!!!

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 13:58

tessie,

perhaps we can be two scaredy cats together and brave the next meeting!!!!
We'll support each other through it

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 14:00

see........
this is what happens!!!!

I post one message on here and then get totally draw in to a conversation (not that I'm complaining )

This is why I don't get any work done if I post!!!!!!!!

Lua · 18/01/2005 14:20

Tessie - don't feel guilty at all. I think you are doing the right think. As I said before we just find out that we are having a boy, and dh was so upset he couldn't talk about it for a few days. But he is turning around and starting to laugh at how sure we were that it was a girl , and how funny we'll look with all of his big sister pink pijamas !
So, I am really glad that by knowing earlier my DH is being able to get to grips with his disappoint, without spoiling birth day.

MrsWednesday · 18/01/2005 14:51

So pleased the scan went well Welshmum! Did you find out what you were having? Are you keeping it a secret?!

Welcome back Sweetheart, glad the migraines have cleared up. Blame Uwila, I reckon she passed them on to you .

teabelly · 18/01/2005 14:53

Gosh I go away for lunch and suddenly I miss a load of chat...a girl could draw conclusions from that!!

Sweetheart/Tessie - go on come along you know you want to really - we're all nervous but it's gonna be real fun - I have all these Ideas in my head floating about of what people look like from the various conversations on mn and I know I'm going to be totally wrong about most of them!! Anyway it took so long to organise this one we'd have probably have had the little uns by the time we arrange another...come, come,come...ok I'll stop now!

Welshie congrats on the scan...sooo you didn't find out if bubba's a he or she?? or do you have an inkling??

Tessie I know what you mean about a girl, I've said before I've always just seen myself with a little girl so want one at some point, and as dh only wants two it had better be this one...otherwise we may have to have a little accident Obviously wouldn't be upset at another boy, ds is wonderful and I wouldn't be without him...but...

Lua I understand what you mean about having time to get used to the idea of a sex you weren't expecting (see above), and as Tessie says it's not like you can change anything now, so it'd just be nice to know (and come to terms with if necessary)...god a week to go I'm not sure I can wait...I'm going to be a bag of nerves before I go in next tuesday...knowing my luck the little blighter will have it's legs stubbornly crossed

Mcmudda - yeah eat those creme eggs - otherwise I'll be up there to have them for you...I could just do a creme egg right now

Tessie - 5 stone good lord where did you put it all?? Mind you I've put on a stone so far so I might try and beat your record, he he he

charleypops · 18/01/2005 15:10

Phew! How long did that catch-up take!!

Congrats Katz and JonahB on graduating and Katz, Scraggy and Welshie on your scans

Congratulation Lua on your BOY!

Hey Tessie - isn't it awful not having access to mumsnet AT ALL TIMES!! I also heard my bump's heartbeat for the first time on Friday and unexpectedly felt emotional too!

Katz - I wouldn't worry about getting too many "that's nice"'s when it comes to asking people in real life for their opinions on your baby name ideas. In my experience people just love telling you how much they hate it and certainly don't hold back on how offended they are by your ideas!! Everyone's just about put me off my very very favourite name I've had for years for a boy

JonahB - I like your names - I think "Mim"s cute from Miriam, and Zac, or Zak's nice too from Isaac.

Pink - I have to say I LOVE Persephone!

Uwila - the names you have chosen are completely likeable! I prefer the Rathbone spelling personally, because it reminds me of Basil Rathbone, but it's a great name. BTW - what lie flat pram did you use for your newborn?

Sweetheart - hope your headaches have gone by now. I've been getting a lot too. My friend yesterday told me that taking Paracetamol in pregnancy can make a child schizophrenic!! Wish she's kept that one to herself!!

charleypops · 18/01/2005 15:14

Aw Scraggy! Sounds like everything's fine - but you're bound to be a bit worried.
I'm worried though because me and dp both have big heads!

Tribpot - sorry about your in laws. At least your mum's talking to you. Mine hasn't called since I was

charleypops · 18/01/2005 15:16

whoops! I meant to say since we had an argument when I was about 7 weeks pg (apart from today to tell me she's arranging to have the stuff I've been storing there for about 15 years moved to my house. Been in tears most of the afternoon actually.

welshmum · 18/01/2005 15:20

I've put on a stone too - really hurts after losing so much.
Did we find out the sex? DH has sworn me to secrecy as whether we even asked so won't say.

teabelly · 18/01/2005 15:25

Charley so sorry your mum's been so awful...you can have mine if you like

MrsWednesday · 18/01/2005 15:27

That sounds tough Charleypops. I really hope you manage to get things sorted out soon, it can't be a pleasant situation to be in.

Very impressive Welshmum! I'm not sure I could keep something like that a secret for 20 long weeks, which is one of the reasons why I don't want to know at the scan.

teabelly · 18/01/2005 15:29

ok sooo are you happy Welshie?? [she says as she tries to trawl back over past threads trying to see what your wish was, he he he]

welshmum · 18/01/2005 15:47

I'm really happy, delightedly happy. But I think this is to do with how worried I've obviously been about m/c since the start - I just hadn't realised it. But the baby just looked so healthy in there - and (I know how daft this is) but its feet were so lovely etc etc I don't think I've ever said what sort I'd prefer because I genuinely don't mind, just wanted another one.

sweetheart · 18/01/2005 15:50

Oh well..... so much for feeling better after my midwife appt - I feel 100 times worse. She couldn't find my baby's heartbeat so I have to go back in 2 weeks.

Also there is a problem with my blood tests - something to do with my white cell count. Which means I had to have more blood taken to see if it has changed.

Charleypops - I mentioned to my midwife about the migranes and said that I had taken rather alot of paracetamol (against my better judgement but I was feeling so shite) She said it's fine so long as you don't go over the suggested dose (8 tablets a day i think).
Hopefully she would know better than your well meaning friend!!!!!

I've put on 7Ibs in the last 16 weeks - although it may aswell be 4 stone coz I'm looking really really fat. Also my midwife has just confirmed my dates and moved me back to 30th June so I really am due in June now!!!!

teabelly · 18/01/2005 15:53

ok Welshie I'll stop trying to investigate

I'm so glad it's made you enjoy this pg. Its amazing what they can see now...I'd hate to have been pg in my mum's time when scans didn't exist and the first glimpse you got was on d day! You need to celebrate tonight...treat yourself with something you really fancy...unfortunately for me that's a bottle of wine, so I'll have to wait another 19 weeks, he he he!
