For those of us with 3 months to go or less....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
libralady · 14/04/2008 21:46

Sorry I obviously meant cramps. It's amazing what a differnce a small m can make isn't it?

Rolf · 14/04/2008 22:55

I've been wearing yoga pants from the beginning. Is that bad? Am I a skanky slob? I think the fact that I don't even know is pointing to the answer...

Welcome Alipalli and hello Tasssiss.
I have a 2.5 year old who is lovely but the worst sleeper in the world so am knackered. I also have a 8 year old and a 6 (almost 7) year old.

Golly, Makecakes - 4 weeks seems like nothing! I was induced at 38 weeks with DD and it was fine. Sorry your appointment was so horrible and that you're in pain.

PP - I giggle at my bump doing earthquakes. The children love watching it too but I have to hide it from DH as it freaks him oiut (Alien...).

debinaustria · 15/04/2008 07:16

Good morning all, got a poorly Tristan here today with a high temperature, 5 minutes ago he asked if he could watch TV, I said yes, I've come back into the room and he's fast asleep. No other symptoms yet apart from feeling dizzy.

Wow makecakes - get that head out of the sand - 4 weeks. I'm so sorry you're in so much pain though. How are you feeling this morning? At least you have a date in mind to focus on, I hope these 4 weeks pass by very quickly.

Greenfairy - you have a right to rant about your landlord, sounds like you've been a perfect tenant

Hi Allipalli and welcome, it's never too late to join us. So, how organised are you re the forthcoming birth, do you like Creme eggs and how do you feel about Keith Chegwin?

tassisssss - you have to be prepared to spend many hours on the computer to keep up with us - sorry . Some of the best advice I heard re toddlers was to teach them to turn pages themselves, then in those early days when you're sitting and feeding a lot , toddler can sit with you , and you can read to them , but they turn the pages - leaving your hands free!! Also get dd a present from the new baby. There's 23 months between my eldest 2, and ds1 didn't really bother with ds2 for a long time - just called him baby, and carried on as though he wasn't there!!

LL - glad your mind was put at rest about the size of your bump, fingers crossed that the next 2 weeks fly by(no pun intended) until your holiday.

PP - I waste many minutes watching my bump move, boys and dh love it too. I'm off for a bath soon, baby moves the most in there.

Rolf - you are not a skanky slob, I have one pair of 2nd hand stretchy trousers which I love as they actually stay up - waistband goes up to my bra, but they are very old. I love to wear them in the house but not out!! They are too embarassing!!

sophiewd · 15/04/2008 07:54

Morning all, just doing my pre breakfast check in, 4 this morning, have a MW appointment this afternoon so hoepfully can have a chat with her about SPD. We survuved shoe shopping yesterday, so D know has a new pair of boots and 2 pairs of canvas sandals which should last her awhile.

Rolf · 15/04/2008 08:29

Alipalli - you might have guessed that if your answers to the creme egg and Keith Chegwin questions are incorrect, you won't be allowed to join our gang

Morning everyone! What kind of 2 year old goes to sleep at 10pm and wakes up at 6pm? arghhh...And when she did fall asleep I had heartburn and had to get up.

DH has now gone off the 4 names he ticked so we are back to worse than our starting point - at least at the beginning there was a blank slate. Now there is a slate with 38 rejected names on it and no alternatives

Josie57 · 15/04/2008 08:36

Morning all, I've been lurking the last few days as I've been really busy and you guys have been chatting soooooooo much!

Managed to fall over the weekend!!!! Slipped over in our utility room on some water. Fortunately I landed on my bum, so plenty of padding! However, it did nothing for my bad back which had just started to get better! Oh well, I guess I have to resign myself to fact that I will now be waddling everywhere.

Can't remember who mentioned having toddlers but I have a 19 month old who is very active and loves being outside. I'm really starting to struggle with taking him outside now as he's no longer content with playing in the sandpit or digging in the soil but wants to run up and down the steps or something else equally inappropriate. I'm doing my best to take him to playgroups and do 'nice' stuff with him but the weekends are difficult as my dh is frantically busy trying to get all his 'jobs' done before the new arrival. I have to confess that CBeebies is becoming my saviour .

I can't believe I still have 7 1/2 weeks at work but at least next week is annual leave .

Makecakes - quite envious of you having your baby in four weeks, I'm really hoping this one will come a couple of weeks early.

katyjo · 15/04/2008 08:41

rolf poor you, I think my ds (also 2) is a bit unsettled by the whole baby/bump thing.
My dh is being a nightmare about names as well, I am just trying to find some names I like and figure he won't say no to his hormonal post birth wife (I'm sure I can throw in some tears if it comes to it!).

Good luck with your appt sophie

bitofadramaqueen · 15/04/2008 09:05

josie hope you're ok after your fall!

Had a dream last night that I had to go for a scan to check on the baby (all was well with it) but the sonographer let slip it was a boy. Asked my DH if he thought it meant anything, he said he thought it meant I had a dream we were having a boy .

On the jeans front, I dont want to speak too soon but... have had limited success! I got these ones. They are not the most flattering style for a dumpy size 14 woman, however, they had the same waistband as the work trousers I bought from them so I thought I'd give them a bash. Wore them all last night and didn't have the same need to hitch them up. The denim is much softer than usual thougu, so I think even if I did need to hitch them up, I wont suffer the same 'chaffing' issues .

Have to confess though, at home I've been in yoga pants for weeks! I got some really nice gap body ones, but I'm going to pick up some cheapy ones from sainsbury's for lounging about at home pre/post - birth.

Re doulas - my NCT class homework is to tell everyone about doulas. Can anyone post a link to a good general info website that I can use to save time? Thanks!

Have a good day everyone.

ernest · 15/04/2008 09:17

lol dq - sounds exactly what my dh would say!

Rolf · 15/04/2008 09:31

DQ - this website www.doula.org.uk/content/duk/about/faq_home.asp tells you all about doulas.

Hmm, no-one has actually said that they wear yoga pants all the time - just around the house - so I still think I get the skanky slob prize. I thought they looked ok too . I wear them wtih long tunics so thought they looked quite streamlined but as you may have guessed I am not the most sartorially gifted knife in the box.

I have got myself totally terrified about today's scan. I really hope I'm not told that I have to have a c-section - it really scares me. And I have far too many very unhappy memories of scans. Today is the anniversary of when my DD died (the one I lost at 19 weeks pregnant). And it was this time of year that I was having a foetal MRI scan and we were terrified about the pregnancy. Sorry to be glum.

sophiewd · 15/04/2008 09:32

Rolf - thinking of you today, fingers crossed for you and your scan.

ktpie · 15/04/2008 09:33

Morning everyone,
I was feeling a lot better this morning so came into work but am now sat here feeling rubbish, and of course my boss has a huge pile of work saved up for me to do.

We had our second antenatal class last night, all about looking after the baby. I didn't find it as useful as the first one but that could have been because I was feeling rubbish!

Upsidedowncake · 15/04/2008 09:34

Welcome Allipalli and hello again, Tassiss

Makecakes, you'll probably be the first. Can't believe you'll be a mummy in four weeks! Wow. How are you feeling now?

Debs, hope Tristan is OK. Does he get ill suddenly and then get over it very quickly?

Sophie, good luck with your appointment

Rolf, poor you with sleepless DD. I hope she gets more sleep soon so you can too.

Dramaqueen, this is the doula UK website. There's quite a lot on there/

Josie, I hope you're OK after your fall. It took me quite a long time to recover so don't push yourself too fast.

And talking of pushing myself, I went back to work yesterday. Even though I'm off the project that sent me off sick before, I had to say no to a couple of extra pieces of work and still had a full chargeable day on my timesheets.

DH was working late, so I then had to race home, pick up DS, escort him to the potty, go to Sainsbury's, come home, bathe DS, potty again, bedtime story, put away shopping, wash DS's wet clothes, sort out supper and then eat with DH when he got back at 9.45. I was so wound up, I slept really badly (3 hours) and then had to take DS in to nursery as DH had an 8 am conference call.

I think this is what it's like to be a single mother, but I cannot cope with being pregnant, working at this pace and dealing with the house and DS. Have phoned work to tell them at working at home for the rest of this week and am only taking one project on. I feel a bit of a wimp, but I just don't seem to be able to do what I used to handle fairly easily.

Upsidedowncake · 15/04/2008 09:37

Rolf, I hope your scan goes OK today. I'll be thinking of you.

And I wear yoga pants all the time now - under tunics like you. I have bad exzcema from all the trouser chafing. Can't wait for this pregnancy to end!

ktpie · 15/04/2008 09:40

Rolf - good luck with the scan.

whinegums · 15/04/2008 09:40

Morning everyone. Feeling a bit less ranty this morning, especially after catching up with some of your other woes. Makecakes - eek, 4 weeks! Hope you're ok today.

Mat jeans - I got some from M&S Limited Collection, and they're ok. I can still wear my biggest pair of normal jeans too, so I'm not doing too badly at the moment.

Rolf - hope the scan today goes well, and you're ok - easy to say, but try not to worry.

Josie57 · 15/04/2008 09:48

Upsidedown - I can totally relate to how you feel. I've got a ds (19 months) and I work fulltime plus I tend to do most of the housework as dh has a full on job and a million things to do round the house. Just recently I really feel that it has all been too much and I just feel like I am not handling it well at all. I've found it much harder this time round although I was equally busy work and house wise when I had my ds. I keep finding myself longing for my maternity leave to start so that I can be free of some of the commitments and just get back to being a mum and wife! I know it all sounds lame but work is super stressful at the moment as I have a big project that my boss thinks will be done before I leave, despite the fact that the finish date for it is in August and I finish in June! He's told the person who is taking it on from me that it will just need a bit of tidying up to finish off but it's just not going to happen. I keep telling him to be more realistic but he's got his ears firmly closed. I find I just want to go and hide from it all. So I totally sympathise with how you feel. Hopefully, working from home will suit you better as you'll be able to focus more on your one project and not get sucked into everything else.

Don't underestimate how hard it is being pregnant and doing everyday things as well. I find that everything takes longer, even changing my son's nappy leaves me out of breath from bending over the change mat and getting him dressed takes longer as I can't chase him like i used to. I don't think any of this helps us to feel like we are 'staying on top' of things.

I'm really hoping that this will be my worst week at work and if I can get through this then I am on annual leave next week and then only 6 weeks left!

debinaustria · 15/04/2008 09:49

Thinking of you today Rolf, please let us know how you get on

Upsidedown - you are not being a wimp, sounded like a horrendous day. You're doing well tackling the potty training when going out and about. I did it when we had a week off work but were at home doing nothing. You have my sympathies

Tristan is dressed now and not really ill in himself, just the high temperature. He's watched TV and is now playing lego with dh.

needahand · 15/04/2008 10:09

Hiya you have all been busy again. I can't keep up!

Hello to the newbies and welcome

makescake sorry your pain is getting worse and that you were treated with so little compassion. Can't believe you will be induced in 4 weeks. Best get those baby things sorted.

Whinegum sorry you had a bad experience at your antenatal class. I hope it improves and you get some value out of it.

bito I bought some jeans from Next. They are underbump and in proper jeans material (not lycra) but there is a patch that is elastic above the pockets and I found they are the only ones that will stay put for me

GF I am working from home a lot these days because I can't really walk with my pelvis. at your cheeky landlord! How dare he?

PP yep I too can spend ages bump gazing at the little alien inside me!

Rolf sorry about your DD. Good luck for the scan and loads of virtual hugs

My saga for finding a decent place to give birth continues. I have already ruled out another hospital. My only other hopes are: the last remaining hospital in the area which I hope is decent. Hiring independent midwifes or going to a private centre in London which will require I take a mini mortgage and travel 1.30mn whilst in labour.

goingfor3 · 15/04/2008 10:09

Rolf I really hope you get good news and can enjy your scan today. Anniversaires are really hard so thinking of you today.

I wear tracksuit bottoms all the time and have done pretty much as soon as I found out I was pretty, comfort wins everytime!

DD2 who is 4 is so wingey at the moment and though this makes me sound like an awful mother I am looking forward to going away for a couple of days without her, this will be the first time I've left her ever! My mum is comming to stay at my house to look after dd2 while dp is at work and I will be away with dd1. It will be good for both children to have some only child time for a couple of days before the madness of being one of three begins.

Josie57 · 15/04/2008 10:17

G43 - lol at your comment of 'when you found out you were pretty'

goingfor3 · 15/04/2008 10:21

I'm very tired and unfortunatley not the least bit pretty!!!

debinaustria · 15/04/2008 10:24

LOL G43 - I'm sure you are pretty as well as pregnant!! I can sympathise with the whingey child , Tristan could be v whingey at about age 4 too. Hope you have a lovely time away, was it a competition win?

goingfor3 · 15/04/2008 10:28

debinaustria dd is going to be filming a commercial. She has never done it before so it will be really interesting to see how it's done. She's so excited about going to a hotel and going on holiday so I do remind her every so often that she will actually be working!

Josie57 · 15/04/2008 10:39

G43 - Wow, how exciting is that for her! I did one for Lucozade years ago as part of a sports club and it was lots of fun. Quite a lot of hanging around but quite a novelty too! I hope you both have a great time.
