Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Upsidedowncake · 13/04/2008 08:15

Morning everyone

How nice of those children to bring presents for all three. That was really thoughtful. Do you know them well enough to know if that's a Kosovan custom?

Edward and Christine

Debs, have a lovely day on the mountains. It's been such a feature of your posts - what happens in the summer? Do you have lovely walks in Alpine (correct mountains?) meadows?

How is everyone doing today?

sophiewd · 13/04/2008 08:19

Oh yes, 2 full english, one bacon, mushrooms, tomato and fried egg, 2 kippers and scrambled egg and bacon on a toasted soda farl. I remember in Hungary, sauseages and bacon were just awful.

had a good day with SPD yesterday, the day before managed to lie down in morning and afternoon which helped, just doing things slowly.

makecakesnotwar · 13/04/2008 10:11

Hey all-

ernest- would say Jennifer and Edward (I like the nickname teddy, but that's just me!) So pleased the party went well. You must be exhausted.

Baby shower went well. Harrods is very posh, and it was lovely, and I got lots of lovely gifts- I asked for everyone to bring their favourite children's book so that I could start a library. Got quite a mixture. But was absolutely mortified to find out how much people were asked to pay (they weren't told in advance by organiser). I will be apologising for the rest of my life!!

Of course the effort of going into London means that I ahd a terrible night's sleep and will spend most of today in bed to try and help pelvis recover. I am now fficially 'entering confinement!'

Can't believe the time has gpne so quickly and we are all facing parenthood within the next few weeks!!!

Parofleurmapu · 13/04/2008 10:26

morning all

ooooh proper brekkie! im eating allbran at mo ( hoping it will help in certain department i do not want the p....s)

Re names Ernest: Edward and Jennifer get my votes.

Neenz- i went for tour of maternity ward/ labour delivery rooms on Fri and they said i would prob have to have an epidural too. Cause pain rises blood pressure and epi reduces pain so no high blood pressure. But im going to bo like you, hope that all is well and go with the flow.

Re movments does any one else have to fill in a sheet every day saying whether they have had 10 movements in 4 hours? I have to jot down time i felt first movement and time of last. its the norm here from 32 weeks !! if i dont feel 10 i have to try again later or next day and if i still havent they i have to go to hospital. It seems a bit bizarre as sometimes its 10 in 4 hours or maybe 6 which surely is ok and others like last night its 10 in 1 min!!!!

Off to play my early bday pressie a wiii!! its fab not sure if 32 week pregnant woman should be playing golf, and tennis but i have drawn a line at the boxing!!!

ernest · 13/04/2008 10:57

Hi again - I've actually put up 3 pics from party - me leading the little troop, dh and kids helping build fire, and playing in woods. was goreat.

Thanks for names votes, so Edward more popular than Robert? hmm
paro - never had to fill out such a form, but was told to count up and keep an eye out for the 10 movements.

sophie - hmm cooked breakfast.

congrats on the wii. I think the boxing's ok, will certainly be great psot natal work out - reminds me cos I've not done it for ages.

must get one

hope everyone's got a nice sunny day where they are.

sophiewd · 13/04/2008 12:12

Are you sure you are pregnant Ernest?

Looks like you had a great day weather wise, and they are very sweet holding hands.

bitofadramaqueen · 13/04/2008 12:39

Def Edward from me too ernest. My GD was called Edward, otherwise it would be on my shortlist (me and DH have agreed to avoid names of any relatives at all). No preference on girls names though, although would probably prefer Jenny to Chris/Chrissy/Christy, but that's just personal preference. Glad the party went well.

paro I've played the boxing on the wii - you get a great arm workout .

Parofleurmapu · 13/04/2008 12:49

did try boxing the other day but after my stomach and arms killed me!!! think i move around TOO much hehe!

Upsidedowncake · 13/04/2008 13:12

Ernest, what a fantastic children's party. I'd love DS to be able to have parties like that.

Hi Paro, lovely to have the Wii. I don't know anyone who has one. What else can you play on it?

Woke up yesterday morning with 40 times more energy than I've had the whole pregnancy (30 weeks today). I've really been exhausted and now suddenly I'm all zippy. Anyone else had this?

I pounced on DH twice yesterday - and he's just gone running to get away from me . Went swimming today with DH and DS and we were all set to go and watch the marathon when the heavens opened. Love having all this energy!

DS chose a toy car this morning as a reward for filling up a jar with pingpong balls (one for each wee and two for a poo) - he's very proud of himself.

debinaustria · 13/04/2008 14:31

Ernest your party looked great my boys would also love it.

Upsidedown - yes, once the snow melts then the mountains are accessible again for walking. It's this inbetween time which is a bit of a pain - no skiing and no walking in the mountains either. Both boys are very good walkers now and last year Stefan did a 6 hour hike and Tristan did 4 hours. We're going to need a decent baby carrier!!
No bursts of energy here I'm afraid - wish there was.

Sophie, my mouth's watering

Paro - I read that allbran type stuff isn't that great to prevent piles - you're better sticking to lots of fresh fruit and veg and plenty of water.
I was playing tennis on ours yesterday too, I like the sound of the new fitness game coming out for it, could be good post baby.

Makecakes - glad you had a lovely baby shower - I like the idea of the favourite childrens books - I think it's a lovely thing to ask for. Books are the one thing I didn't get rid of when we moved here so I have loads of them from baby upwards...I would struggle to choose a favourite.

Had a lovely time, we have some English friends over on holiday and so we took them sledging, then goulash soup mmmm.

Rolf · 13/04/2008 14:45

Edward and Jennifer - def my faves.

DH has ticked FOUR of my 38 names and I now think 3 are too poncey and 1 I'm bored of!

thegreenfairy · 13/04/2008 15:02

Afternoon all.

Ernest - Jennifer and Edward get my vote too. And how sweet of that boy to give DS1 his football. I hope when he has his own birthday the other boys who were making fun are nicer to him.

Debs - why do you think bacon's so bad in Austria? I had a skiing hol there years ago and found exactly the same thing. Also got annoyed with lack of easy to find fresh fruit and veg, but maybe that was just the area (Schladming).

Started moving house yesterday - we are doing it in bits, with a van on the 25th for 24 hours to get the sofas/ bed moved. Totally knackered already and my friend who we're renting from has not managed to clean the kitchen yet (18 month old keeping her busy!) so am a bit hamstrung over what we can/ can't take over. Still, loving packing tho - satisfies my compulsively neat side. Righto, must crack on.

Have a fab afternoon all

thegreenfairy · 13/04/2008 15:03

PS. Rolf - I had lists and lists, and then had a sudden eureka moment and came up with something totally different (and a bit mad) we both love. Maybe it's time for a rethink?

makecakesnotwar · 13/04/2008 15:23

YOu hardly look pregnant at all ernest- or should I call you Robin Hood, as you were leading your merry band towards the woods.

Paro- don't blame you for not doing Boxing- too exhausting. Our favourite game for Wii is Rabid Rabbits- a series of mini games like cow tossing and dancing bunnies and hog racing. Very funny no matter how bad you are (and I am bad...) Like Debs, I am keen to see what the fitness board will be like...

Also with Debs on the exhaustion front...was awake from 4 - 6 and then got woken by phone (my dad) and vomiting husband at 8. Just had a nap, and fully expect to fit in another before bedtime. I have written my thank you cards from shower yesterday, though, so feeling quite pleased with myself.

PregnantPenguin · 13/04/2008 15:25

Hi Everyone

Party sounded great Ernest, esp the three present/football ball. What a womderful gesture. Edward and Jennifer get my votes too.

Greenfairy - Exactly the same as Rolf, lists and lists and arguments and discussions, then name came out of the blue and has stuck ever since.

My brother lives about 60 miles away and texted me yesterday morning saying he wanted to pop round and visit. Which was a suprise. We probably see each other about 6 times a year at most and it's normally me visiting him. It was lovely and he was all big brotherly and emotional about me and bump (very unlike him indeed). It was really sweet. Although they stayed for 5 hours - I was shattered by the time they left!

DH has just mentioned that it's Man U vs Arsenal today, so a quiet afternoon for me I think! ;0)

OP posts:
Rolf · 13/04/2008 16:09

Nice to know it's not just us about names. I'll stop being hyper about it!

Ernest - so glad the party was a success and from what I can see on the photo, you certainly don't look pregnant or even like a non-pregnant fat bird .

poppy34 · 13/04/2008 18:08

hi all -paro lucky you for getting a wii.. like makecakes, rayman is a big favourite here - dh and dss also love guitar hero. I'm quite fond of cooking mama, boogie and mario galaxies (yes we have quite a few games...). Am too pants at sports and got fed up with being beaten by dh/dss so gave up on it.

Not sure re the 10 movements in 4 hours sheet here - usually they say 10 movements between breakfast/evening meal or unusual movements that are not part of usual pattern.

Re energy/exhaustion -seem to be quite energetic (even cleared up my wardrobe which is most unlike me) but that is only if I've had a good nights sleep and energy phase does seem to run out after about 6pm ish. Suspect this phase won't last so making the most of it.

Deb -how was last day skiing? Any photos to make us all jealous?

Great photos ernest -looks like the boys had a good time.

bitofadramaqueen · 13/04/2008 19:54

makecakes glad the babyshower went well. Fear at the thought of babies in a few weeks - I've still got 10 to go!

Re: energy, no burst of it overnight but it dawned on me the other week that I dont feel as tired as I did throughout 1st and 2nd trimester.

poppy - I thought it was 10 movements between morning and night. Hmmm, I may have to start counting. My movements dont seem to be in a pattern at all. Some days busier than others. But today for example, little bit of movement when I woke up, and some gentle movement about an hour ago. That's ok isn't it? Is it 10 periods of movement or 10 actual movements? Sometime I can get 10 or more movements in one session!

Had bit of a disaster today. I'm well known for not doing anything in the kitchen, but decided to bake a cake today. It was all gooey in the middle so had to go in the bin . Followed the instructions to the absolute letter.

poppy34 · 13/04/2008 20:44

make cakes -they say between meals but I always do what you do (ie total movements all day ) a meal times can vary. but it can change so much from day to day anyway -one minute paris is acting like she has been given the run of all the handbags in louis vuitton, the next its almost like she is shut up in prison for drink driving...

link

Feel for you re your cake disaster - I'm craving cake (made one on friday and dont care it wasnt perfect as was rushing it to scoff it).

PiggyPenguin · 13/04/2008 20:45

I sympathise Dramaqueen, I am such a nightmare in the kitchen.

My bump feel incredibly hard and heavy today, it is really uncomfortable. I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight really, my back aches and my bump is painful and I still have (at least) 9 weeks to go. Sorry to be a moaner, feel free to ignore me totally!

katyjo · 13/04/2008 21:15

Hi everyone,

Ernest - I love Edward too! Little boy at M&T group called 'Eddie' very cute, also like jennifer and Christine.

Makecakes - very impressed you have written your thank you letters already, I still haven'y sent the ones from ds's birthday

Sybilvimes - poor you, I hope your dh is looking after you. Don't worry time flies in you'll soon have your little one in your arms and then all your aches and pains will seem worth it!

My dh has gone to London for a few days, so I am feeling sorry for myself as I have a bit of a cold, hopefully this will be the last trip before baby arrives. I think I'll go crack open the chocolate and hope it doesn't give me heartburn!

debinaustria · 14/04/2008 06:17

Good morning everyone, another week closer!!

Exciting day here planned - food shopping and accounts!

Sybil Hope you're feeling better this morning

Katyjo - How's the cold thismorning, did you sleep OK without your dh?

Poppy - no photos I'm sorry, but it was so warm as I sat there watching that I got sunburnt. I had suncream on my face but I was wearing a v necked top and caught it on my chest!!

Rolf - I have tried your technique with dh - but with a shorter list of names, I have left it for him on the computer twice now and still no comments on any name yet.

PP glad you had a good time with your brother

Makecakes - did you have a better nights sleep? I was awak at 4 ish too this morning, just takes me ages to get to sleep after I get up for the loo.

Greenfairy - Schladming isn't too far from us. You usually find the fruit/veg in the villages isn't great, it's slightly better in the towns but not much. The Austrians eat a lot of salad but not much veg. Apples are particularly tasteless at the moment so I'm off in search for some better ones today in a more expensive shop!!

Happy Monday everyone

ernest · 14/04/2008 06:42

Morning all. Dh stayed after the football last night and went early this morning - and promptly forgot to take his shirts which I stood and ironed yesteday, so now he's probably going to have to go out and buy 4 new shirts

DQ sorry to hear about your cake - what a pain. I've got to bake 3 cakes this week - one for each boy to take to their various things (2x school & 1 x play group)

Deb, continuing the domestic side, we've got braeburns at the moment, which the boys much prefer - nice, crunchy and sour. can't get them that often here. It was really hot here too. Went to the football yesterday ( I had taken my Austrian thick woolie cardie, coat, hat and gloves ) Could feel us all burning. Luckily it was quite empty - we had to change seats twice to escape the glare.

Dh has now got funny about Edward, as his uncle is so called (actually called Ted, never once heard anyone use full & proper name) fgs. tough. He refuses to discuss names further.

Tho with ds1 we'd done our shortlist, but when he was born a completely different name appeared out of thin air and that's what we callled him. Here tho you're supposed to hand in the name when you go into delivery, and they get very shirty if you don't, and have max of 2 or 3 days after the birth, not the 6 weeks like you have in UK. Dunno what the rule is in Germany.

And finally, ds3 is refusing to answer to his name. His name, apparently, now is Anakin Skywalker Ghost. And nothing else will do.

Anyone got a great cake recipe, moist, tasty, looks great but actually dead simple? For me and dq . I always feel I don't quite live up to the swiss standard.

sophiewd · 14/04/2008 07:32

Morning all, over did it at weekend and feeling very stiff and sore today, only have 2 guests in so easy breakfast and then of to do shoe shopping with DD (really don't envy first timers this joy) DH is coming with me for support.

Deese20 · 14/04/2008 08:26

Morning all.

Developed quite severe abdo pain last week and thought I had appendicitis. Trotted along (well, hobbled bent over and very slowly!) to labour ward and ended up there all day having tests and scans and having v strong painkillers...
Have grown a uterine fibroid - has anyone else got experience of this? There was nothing on my last scan (7 weeks ago)and never had anything like this before. Internet searches haven't been too helpful and hospital altho lovely weren't too forthcoming on what happens next. Have to be reviewed next week by COnsultant but am in a lot of pain, constantly.

Although this is great training for labour, really not looking forward to this for another ~10weeks! Having constant pain, broken by intermittent sharper stabbing pain. Luckily, the Boy is fine, wriggling around like mad (making pain worse) and looking lovely and big on the scan - which is very reassuring.

Feeling very down today as pain is no better than before. I've been extremely lucky to have a v v smooth pregnancy so far. But we also have paid for a private Birth Centre birth and I'm wondering now if that's out the window as I can't imagine pushing against this level of pain. (can't mention the pain bit enough - it really is so bad I'm thinking of asking my mother to stay! eek)

Has anyone got some advice/happy stories for me please? Feel bit sad that after such a brilliant time so far, this is all I'll remember of the experience
