OP posts:

Debs - your poor dh!!!! I do like the idea of them finding out what these things feel like though.

whinegums · 02/04/2008 15:45

Debs, brilliant, I shall demand DP bares his nips and lets me have a go on him!!!!!

makecakesnotwar · 02/04/2008 15:49

Ouch Debs...though cunning plan!! Thought I'd better try elbow because destructions said don' try on your boobs as it might bring on labour...will get to that in a few weeks methinks [cunning plan type emoticon]

Have been looking at Silver Cross prams on Ebay- have always wanted one so that baby cakes can go in the garden to nap and be away from the wonder hound [rose-coloured glasses emoticon]...wasn't going to get one unless we moved to a house with a big enough garden, but now that's a possibility!! But they go for up to £800 - can't ask my mum to pay that. Anyone know anyone with a SX who might want to flog it???

thegreenfairy · 02/04/2008 15:55

Debs - I am sooooo testing our breast pump on DH. Hahahaha!

Re slings. I've ordered two hotslings from ebay - one for DH/ me post baby and one for me when I've (hopefully) shrunk a bit. DH really up for wearing one - and even chose one with flowers on it!
We've got a babybjorn too, but there's hip dypsplasia probs in DH's side of the family, so am not mad keen on using it.

I saw the homebirth story too. Didn't really seem to be making a concrete case for anything. Presumably transfer from a midwife-led unit to consultant unit could also carry risks/ distance from hosp a factor.
Also doesn't seem to factor in that far fewer homebirths have complications in the first place...

needahand · 02/04/2008 15:56

makecake are you sure silvercross are practical? They look so bulky/difficult to manage?

LOL at Debs I should try on DH too. He has always been that he couldn't breast feed. I even bought him a breast shape bottle for when he was feeding DD (silly I know]

sophie I agree with the others, I don't think your FIL is helping is daughter to stand on her own two feet (but you knew that already). Not much you can do about it though

Upsidedowncake · 02/04/2008 15:57

Makecakes, lol nesting and trying stuff out. You could get one of those baby dolls and see if it fits in to your slings.

mellymell · 02/04/2008 16:00

makecakes - if you fancy doing any additional nesting at my house, it could do with sorting out!

makecakesnotwar · 02/04/2008 16:01

Was going to test on the dog Upside down....

Needahand- no intention of using Silver Cross in public, just in garden. I have a Mamas & Papas Pliko thing. Plus used to work for someone with a Silver Cross and they are a nightmare, particularly on Kensington High Street!!!

needahand · 02/04/2008 16:09

right! I saw one in the shope when I bought (wishpers) my bugaboo, but it looks so huge and a little old fashion. It looks sweet in a Mary Poppins kind of way but I can't imagine anyone managing pavements with it!!! I think mamas and papas sounds definitely more user friendly!

mellymell · 02/04/2008 16:22

Used to look after kids for a british couple who were posted out to the States. They had a silver cross and it caused an absolute sensation in the supermarket. Love the idea, but cost and impracticality are big negatives. But putting it outside in the garden under a tree etc etc. aaah a real bisto moment (what?)

dylansmumplusone · 02/04/2008 16:30

wow have you ladies been chatty the past couple days!! trying to catch up but aberdeen hiker i really like the look of that carrier - did you find it comfortable and easy right from birth? i've been thinking of getting that cybex i-go one but i don't like how the head and feet stick out in front of your arms - not very hands free. also is it easy to do yourself?

katyjo · 02/04/2008 17:14

makecakes A woman a toddlers was hoping to sell her silver cross, I'm not back there until next tues but I can ask if you like, but we are in Glasgow so I'm not sure how you would get it.

PiggyPenguin · 02/04/2008 17:15

So today I finally decided that I would go for a homebirth, and then they decide to publish that survey - lovely. It doesn't seem to measure like against like for hospital complications however so I think it may be a head-in-the-sand moment...

Have been busy baking chocolate chip and orange cookies with dc this afternoon and they are cooling next to me, ummmmmmmm, they smell so nice but I must resist - at least until they are safe in bed anyway!

dylansmumplusone · 02/04/2008 17:36

i just read that article and it doesn't even make sense! how can they compare for women that wanted to have a home birth at 12 weeks but then was 'transferred'?? a million complications could have arisen in that time.

aberdeen hiker i almost wish you hadn't posted that link - i can't stop looking at the fabrics now!!

libralady · 02/04/2008 18:10

Evening everyone. It's been a fab day today with the sun shining.

Took DS to Weymouth and had a lovely walk along the beach as well as indulging in some retail therapy.

Bought some muslins for LO and some small bits and pieces for DS's birthday which is next Tuesday. Can't believe my 'baby' will be 4!

We've organised a family and friends day out the following Saturday to Paulton's Park near Southampton. DS loves theme parks (well so does Mummy and Daddy) although I won't be able to indulge too much obviously.

I'm doing a picnic for the 15-20 of us going so I'll just push that around in the pushchair whilst everyone else has fun on the rides. Will make his birthday cake next Wednesday. Have no idea what I'm going to do this year. Did a Thomas the Tank Engine cake last year. He's still mad on Thomas so may do it again. May as well seeing as I've bought the cake tin and chocolate moulds etc. May as well get the use out of them. Mind you I liked Deb's fort with chocolate fingers!

Out of interest does anyone know if you can use antihistamine cream when pregnant. We spent Sunday in the garden and all three of us are covered in what I am assuming are midge bites. Mine are driving me mad especially at night, I go to scratch in bed and end up with horrendous cramp.

Anyway DS off to spend the next couple of nights at nanny and pop's and DH is away with work until the end of the week so I have the evenings to myself. May get a takeaway tonight and then tackle the pile of ironing (have washed some bedding for LO I got from freecycle) so I now know it is nice and clean although I probably will do it again nearer the time.

Upsidedowncake · 02/04/2008 18:50

Not sure about anti-histamine cream but I was told I couldn't have anything except calamine lotion and moisturiser for my itchy rash. Calamine lotion is the bees knees - and about a third of the price of other lotions anyway!

bitofadramaqueen · 02/04/2008 19:36

libralady - not sure about anti-histamine cream; I was ok to take anti-histamine eye drops for an eye problem but I know I'm not allowed to take anti-histamine tablets if the dreaded hayfever season gets going before the LO gets here. Although, obviously it will have to stay dry long enough for the ground to dry up before people start cutting grass and spraying pollen all over the place .

.

josey · 02/04/2008 20:42

makecakes and debs lol at the breast pump....I would be worried testing one on DH incase it made his man boobs any worse

I actually bought a pump today the Tommy Tipee was half price in tesco so if its pants £12 isnt too much of a waste.

It has been so lovely and sunny here today hope it lasts life is always so muc nicer with the sun coming through the windows and the kids outside.

I just dont get that survey to be honest it seems to have been done by an anti home birth campainer.

debinaustria · 02/04/2008 21:10

Makecakes - you testing the dog in the sling or your breast pump on the dog

Getting silly now, I'm off for a bath with my .....tmi warning - bleeding piles - nice eh?

LauraT · 02/04/2008 21:46

hey,

re: antihistamines, you can take some if you desperately need them and I would think that topical creams should be OK too - ask the pharmacist for advice I reckon!

I have terrible cat allergy/ non-specific allergic to other stuff symptoms and my GP prescribed me chlorpheniramine (piriton.) I've only needed to take a few luckily, as pregnancy has made my allergies better, hooray! I think the reason most of them advise against taking them is because they can't be bothered carrying out tests in pregnancy and it's easier to say youcan't take them. certainly the reading I did at the time didn't suggest any problems with piriton - see what your pharmacist says though!

libralady · 02/04/2008 22:14

Thanks LauraT. I've got piriton in the cupboard so may take one when I go to bed.

debinaustria · 03/04/2008 05:47

Good morning everyone, this is your Austrian wake up call. Up early today, off to take sil and bil to the airport, then hoping for breakfast in Ikea followed by a trip to a big baby shop over the border in Germany.Mil will stay here to look after the boys.
Hope you're all OK

sophiewd · 03/04/2008 07:33

One day I will beat you Deb, enjoy your shopping trip.

aberdeenhiker · 03/04/2008 07:52

good morning everyone! I've taken the day off work as I'm exhausted and I think I'm just about to go back to bed (DS work us up at 5am again and I can't sleep when he's running around the house making life difficult for DH so I stayed up until they left).

About the mei tai - I love mine, but I didn't have it when DS was a newborn so I'm not sure how well they'll work - I can't wait to try though... (the hotsling was fabulous for a newborn - that one I did have).

Upsidedowncake · 03/04/2008 09:22

Good morning.

Aberdeen, hope you have a good day's sleep. I have been falling asleep in front of This Morning regularly.

Debs, happy shopping! That was early, even for you!!!!

Anyone heard from Ernest recently?
