Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Pinacolada just told me bout JBR so popped on to offer my congrats to you and yours hunni.....Isla is a gorgeous name!!!

Night all....will have to do some serious catching up!!!

mumofk · 09/04/2008 21:42

Wow, 3 pages to catch up on... going to try to it a page at a time (then my mammoth post will only be 3 little ones!! )
Otter, got my car seat delivered from kiddicare- fabulous. Went out to try in car- fits fine but then found out I left the drivers door open when I staggered in from shopping Monday morning- didn't find out till Tues pm. I thought I'd seen odd people looking at my car as they walked past, but hadn't thought anything of it- neighbour noticed at 6 am (when I was up and on mumsnet probably) but didn't want to disturb us, and DH noticed on his way to work but forgot to do anything/tell me! Oh well, at least car was still there, though drivers seat a bit wet- feeling VERY lucky.

michell- sorry I'm a sonographer, not physio so can't hekp with your back- hope you find something that helps though, that sounds awful.
Everyone with socks and shoes issues- my DD (sometimes) will put my socks on for me, just wish she'd do it all the time, and I hate my crocs (not my shoe of choice, but will do for down the garden afterwards) but live in them for ease of use!
Right thats this installment...

KangaAndRoo · 09/04/2008 21:48

Oh and one final thing...My baby has turned YAYYYYYYYYYY !!!!loads of strong BH and tummy feels all baby!! mw said yesterday at my anti-d appointment that im to expect another biggun....dd was 8lb 12oz

mumofk · 09/04/2008 22:05

Bobsmum- you don't need a physios say-so- if you feel YOUR labour will be adversely affected by continuous monitoring, then YOU say what you'll agree to, whether its intermittent, or if you'll give them half an hour when you get there if thats comfortable for you. At the end of the day, when you're there, in labour, moving as you need to- tell them to F off when they say they can't get a trace! Sorry, feeling a bit strong on that one at the mo!
GCG- know what you mean about daddy's girl- my DD rarely wants to do anything with me- except things I can't do (like getting in the box the baby's car seat came in , though it was funny seeing DH get stuck in it!)and half the time I find it really upsetting, but I keep trying to tell myself I'm going to have a baby 'limpet' attached to me for so long quite soon, and DD needs to be attached to DH so hopefully she won't be AS upset about new baby.
Congratulations for those babies turning- what a relief you you guys!
Congratulations JBR!!!!Sorry you ran out of steam at the end( lucozade check!) but well done for all your hard work, time to get some zzzzzz while you can, and enjoy your little angel! Hope you've both well enough for home soon.
Right, another page to catch up on- hopefully a short one!
Wow, I've lost count how many babies there are, but I guess they'll be a post-natal thread (hmm April babies or early May babies for the title??)

mumofk · 09/04/2008 22:08

Yippee this last page is mostly me, Im not going to reply to myself! glad your little one has turned kanga, and thank pina for the birth announcement list!

Yay - congrats on Isla's safe arrival JBR

mumofk - thanks for the advice - I'm definitely falling on the f-off sentiment atm - grrrrrrr Dh is getting clued up on how to tell the staff what we want if I'm out of it at them time.

On another amusing note, my dear mother has finally realised that there is a chance this baby might arrive while she's sunning herself on holiday. She phoned today and asked if I'd had any twinges - I said yes and she said "But you can't have this baby while I'm on holiday!!" I think she was joking, but was only half joking probably. She had 2 sections for me and my brother - I don't think it's occurred to her until now that babies don't usually arrive when you wnat them to

Mitchell81 · 10/04/2008 09:48

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support.
I can now move around easier, so obviously my back is getting better. Still sore, but heaps better.
Midwife coming round today to give me my last anti-D and 34 week check, last midwife appointment till baby arrives.

GCG: Glad DD is being nicer to you, DS often pretends I no longer exist when DH comes home from work. But when he isn't here doesn't really notice. (makes me feel better)
Thanks again for your advice.

JBR: Congratulations and welcome baby Isla, hope you are recovering well and not till to tired.

Pina: sometimes they can get it wrong with the measurements.

podglet · 10/04/2008 10:18

Morning all,

Moan first - woken up with a snotty nose and a cough this morning lots of vibes for it to go before next week or they won't do the op...

Ok, firstly - HURRAH! for JBR and welcome to Isla, beautiful name, get some rest, I found that Lucozade tablets and my best friend's mum's flapjacks helped with the long labour last time...

Pina - you've missed Chuffed and her girlies off the list my love. I'll pop them on in a mo.

Mitchell 81 - glad your back is feeling better

BM - LOL and at your Mum!! My PIL are going away next Friday so won't be able to come and see LO til they are back. However, they booked the holiday after I announced the pg and knew this one would prob be early like DS - ho hum.

Hope everyone else is ok and enjoying the sunshine - I have just put the washing on the line (now watch it rain / snow)

podglet · 10/04/2008 10:23

Podglet: hope your cold goes quickly, it would be horrible to have to change dates.

Enjoy the sunshine, we have snow again. Will winter ever end???

IndigoBlue · 10/04/2008 10:46

Congratulations JBR!

otter1980 · 10/04/2008 11:16

Congratulations JBR!!!!

good news re been moved to a proper cot and all being well... i am very very envious! good to hear your doing ok and for the lucozade tips.

Does anyone know if you can take lucozade with you if you have GD? because i can't have it now (bad sugar...) but is not going to be making baby any bigger at that stage?

I want my baby out (totally impatient) however shes got to stay in for at least two weeks now cos my best friend is coming up to visit next weekend and because she lives so far away shes not really seen me with a proper big bump... legs crossed over here (or the nearest I can get to it...)

mumofk - OMG! your car door!! did you DH just walk past and not shut the door?

wonder how mocat is doing? hope you're not going too insane in the hospital honey!

Pina - blue cheese query - we cant have blue cheese because of risk of listeria, however "thorough cooking should kill any listeria, so it should be safe to eat food containing soft mould-ripened or blue-veined cheeses, provided the food has been properly cooked and is piping hot all the way through." dont know if that helps at all?

I have decided to re-pack my labour bag as i kept realising that i'd forgotten things and the bag is overflowing. so i have bought a bigger bag and will go about filling it now...

podglet · 10/04/2008 11:36

Thank you Indigo! The chap changing our boiler over this week (yes, I know, timing and all that!) has just said he is sending me to bed soon! Not a bad idea really as the heating and water are off at the moment and I do feel yukky!

Otter - thank you - just off to check my bags now packed them a month ago so have actually forgotten what is in there...

Pina, don't worry about the blue cheese, you would know by now if it had had the wrong effect. Otter is right on with the "hot and cooked through" thing.

Think I may be a bit hormonal today, just posted on a name thread (something I usually avoid) because it was about the name Peter (DP's name) and someone had posted on there about how dull the names Peter and Jennifer were - that'll be me and DP then... . Think I had better leave Mumsnet alone for the rest of the day

will be back on later to read messages.
Can anyone tell me is it usual to have regular braxton hicks from 10pm to 2.30am ( fell asleep) then again at 4.35am. The tightening was causing pain in my hips and lower back and i was considering ringing to speak to a midwife.
today i have had them off and on all day. I'm 35 + 4.
Im worried.

TIA

Otter- smiles at thought of managing to cross legs! I shut my car door on the seatbelt, then locked it as I walked away, so DH couldn't just shut it without coming back in to unlock it, but that didn't cross his mind...
Would having lucozade not screw up your blood sugars, even in labour, so could send you funny (sorry, keep getting muddled with hypos and hypers), so not sure you'd be ok, hope someone else can give you a better answer.
Babylove- if its worrying you, contact the midwife. They can put you on a monitor for half an hour and see how/if your contractions are doing. I've had brackston hicks bad enough I couldn't walk, just for half a day when I was overdoing things a bit- it all stopped when I rested and concentrated on relaxing (self-hypnosis ) but I doubt anything anyone can say will be able to tell you whats going on without you talking/seeing a midwife. This is what they are brilliant at sorting out! Good luck and hope it all settles down soon.
Been to yoga this evening, and realising with having commitments the next two thursday evenings I might not get to go again until I have a baby to show off [slightly scary thought emoticon]! Though I do expect bump to be late....
Right, sweet dreams all- good luck getting/staying asleep!

goodcatholicgirl · 11/04/2008 05:42

pinacolada glad DD is getting better at going to bed, it sounds as if you are more than halfway there. If she does it for DH but not you, she is obviously playing you up (sorry). Maybe try being super firm when she comes back down, it might take a few days, but she hopefully will learn that you mean business.I know it's hard . Especially at this time. I am most definitely the strict one in our house,I had a very strict (irish catholic!!) upbringing myself. DH is pretty good most of the time, but let's her get away with things I don't, like not wearing a bib at dinnertime if she doesn't want to....ok, nothing major, but I strongly feel it's all about them learning who is boss, and sticking to your guns, even if it is a minor issue. Sorry, hope that's not too opinionated for anyone!!! All I can say is, my DD is generally an angel, so I must be doing something right!!

JBR congratulations!! Love the name too.

It's 5:30am (yes, I know ). The insomnia kicked in again last night. I can't sleep so decided to come on MN as I didn't manage all day yesterday due to spending 11 F'ING HOURS painting the kitchen!!! I suppose we should have realised that painting over purple with cream was gonna take quite a few coats . Still not finished, think we are going to have to do a 5th coat at the weekend. Looks good so far. I was getting in some very precarious positions having to do all the edges (lots in a kitchen!!). Needless to say, I ache all over, feel like I have been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson!! Pelvis coped remarkably well with the task, although very sore symphasis pubis last night (ouch!!!).

Off to take DD to the zoo today, although heavy showers forecast .

OH, and re: lucozade, I totally agree with JBR, I used lucozade tabs in labour with DD, and I really believe they made a difference and gave me the energy to do the job in hand!!!

YCBS re: treat for your DH, I know it's a bit boring, but how about taking him out for a nice meal, as you won't be able to do that so easily once baby arrives?? And maybe cinema afterwards??

I have a some of my maternity clothes selling on ebay finishing today, up to £19 already (5 items). I just had so many, and I was sick of the sight of them (as you know!). I figured that I only have a few weeks left, so I've still got all the comfy stuff I wear a lot, but am selling other bits.

Right, probably won't be around til later or even tomorrow, going out for chinese with friends tonight...yipeeee!!

Have a good day all, I'd better go back to bed and try and get some kip.

GCG xxx
