-has nicotine cravings-

Mollyfloss · 26/03/2008 13:58

Just trying to catch up- we really can talk Welcome peach and welcome back egyptianprincess.

Poor Pip12 if she was really looking for advice on the Malay thing. It does sounds like a hoax though. I was in Malaysia though last year and they do great massages. I wouldn't mind one now. However, my slimming plan is to invest in magic knickers

Moomsin: I thought I was doing well but you really are full of energy!

I totally understand the need for choclolate. I haven't gone a day without it (I'm having a girl by the way) and someone kindly told me this morning that they could now see the weight creeping into my face. Charming I told him it is water retention of course, (nothing to do with chocolate). I have put on about 16/17 kilos at least and still counting...

ThePFJ · 26/03/2008 14:00

I have named my extra chin Betsy.

scorpio1 · 26/03/2008 14:01

pmsl

EllieG · 26/03/2008 14:03

PMSL too

Oh PFJ don't talk about nicotine - would cheerfully cut off own arm for a fag right now...

scorpio1 · 26/03/2008 14:04

i would for some wine.

ThePFJ · 26/03/2008 14:06

Mmmmmmm....

Okokok. Must go eat something. I think honey nut cornflakes with ice cold milk could do the trick.

Come on Betsy, lets go stuff your face.

-waves-

EllieG · 26/03/2008 14:07

Ooo, just imagine, sitting outside on a nice summer evening with a glass of chilled sauvignon and a fag...(tries to forget is sitting in lounge looking like a whale while the rain continues outside)

scorpio1 · 26/03/2008 14:07

No Ellie - I'll cry!!

is lovely weather here.

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 14:08

I vaguely think that in Malaysia (or wherever they do the clever wrapping) you also get specialist massages every day for forty days to help everything get back into shape. Not sure wrapping alone will have the same impact.

EllieG · 26/03/2008 14:19

And there was I hoping that a bit of cling film would do the trick. Ah well.

bunnyrabbit · 26/03/2008 15:02

Slow down I can't keep up....

Congrats TMP, can't wait to hear the full story.

Race you all to the finish!! LO is well and truly engaged, has not moved back up since 33 weeks and we are no longer back to back... just have to kick this crappy chest infection and we're ready to go!! DS is now coughing too and DH is home from work and has spent most of the day in bed, or whinging, or both. Off to doctors for a family appointment tonight.
Made huge fishermans pie to freeze in portions yesterday and will be baking tomorrow! But if there are any scones still up for rabe, please pass them this way.

On other notes, I've been on Omeprezole for ages and would not be able to drink or eat normally, let alone when pregnant if I wasn't taking it. I think I read somewhere that it has no affect on baby when breastfeeding either.

..and was 9 days late last time and stretch and sweep was the only thing that worked for me.. oh yes and yeeaauuuucchh to pig semen!!

BR
PS cough sniffle

bunnyrabbit · 26/03/2008 15:30

Have I killed the thread... shrinks into corner.....

Piccalilli2 · 26/03/2008 15:47

I'm not seeing my midwife now til I'm 2 days overdue (note that I am now thinking 'when' I go overdue, not 'if').

Please don't talk about wine, I am so badly craving a huge glass of ice cold white wine...oh well, absolute maximum 4 weeks to go and this baby will be out one way or another as will be 42+2 by then!

bunnyrabbit · 26/03/2008 15:56

Hey Piccaclilli me too!
Saw MW today and she made next apoinement for 40 + 4. Good time for S and S she said. Two weeks away.

Really thought they'd want to see me next week...

Don't wish to intrude, but can you not allow yourself one glass of wine if you fancy it?

BR

VictorianSqualor · 26/03/2008 16:19

I've tried wine a couple of times but it just irritates the heartburn and one glass isn't the same as a bottle or two

Right, I need some ideas of things to book up for the next two weeks to make this baby come. I'm going for the sod's law method.

I have now got two different days when kids are coming over for tea next week, and am sending DP out to the pub either tomorrow or friday (I found some kids phone on the bus and texted his dad to let him know, the kid lives next door to DP's best mates local pub so have told him to use dropping the phone off as an excuse to go out, not sure he's guessed the ulterior motive )

Sunday the in-laws are meant to eb coming for dinner, saturday we've said we'll do something with DD as she found out today she didn't get a place on her school trip.

I need more things!

Oh, think I'll do the hairdressers for wednesday.

KnitterInTheNW · 26/03/2008 16:21

We're home, finally!

The Story...

I'd gone in for the ECV on Tues last week, and you already know they didn't do it, they made an appt for me go in and have c/s on 27th march (tomorrow!) They said if my waters went to get in touch immediately. I saw the midwife last thursday when I was 37+2, then I got into bed at 11 that night and had to get straight out again and run to the bathroom cos there was what felt like gallons of fluid gushing out of me in spurts! Called the labour ward, went straight in, they monitored the baby for a while while they got all the docs etc ready then we walked to theatre. Because I wasn't contracting they were able to do it with a spinal, so at least I was awake.

George William was born at 1:04am on 21st March weighing 7lb 2.5oz, at 37+3. With lots of hair and very chubby cheeks!

That's where the fun began... they gave him some formula with a syringe when he was 45 mins old because I had nothing for for him and he needed something to stop his blood sugar going too low (yet another side effect of my diabetes, and if a babies blood sugar goes too low it could get brain damage, frightening. Once on the ward he had his blood sugar tested and it was a little lower than they'd have liked it to be so he had a formula cup feed. It had dropped again later so went off up to SCBU to be tube fed regularly. He was up there for 2 days then when his sugars were stable he came back down to me so we could tackle bfing. Only trouble was, he just wasn't interested because of all the constant formula cup feeds he was being force fed to maintain the sugar issue. While he was up in special care I managed to express a bit of colostrum to send up to go into his tube but because he wasn't with me, my milk was taking its time. so.............................

Oh I can't even think any more! Basically he wasn't trying to suck because he was always full from forced feeds, lazy because he didn't even need to wake up for the tube feeds. just as he started to get the hang of it, jaundice showed it's ugly head and he was too sleepy to suck, then last night he just woke up and bf'd and bf'd and bf'd and hasn't stopped since!

I'll post again soon when I can think a bit straighter and sort some pics out too. Just wanted you all to know it all worked out in the end! He's 6 days old today and just delicious.

VictorianSqualor · 26/03/2008 16:27

Wow!
I'm really glad you've managed to get breastfeeding going, I know how horrid it can be when it's not your decision how to feed your baby, I had issues with DD because she was in SCBU etc.
(betcha didn't know my first comment would be about BFing).

Glad you're both home and doing well and I'll await pictures totally impatiently

TheMaskedPoster · 26/03/2008 16:49

Thank you for all the congrats! Am over the moon and amazed at the birth myself.

Quick details ...

Woke up at about 6amish having period type pains, but didn't automatically think labour as it may well have been false alarm etc. At 8am DH pondered going to work, but we decided to give it an hour to see what happened, the pains progressed quite steadily enough to dig out the TENS machine. I phoned the Labour ward to 'have a chat' and they suggested the TENS and see how things go. Got the TENS to work (for the first time - I was supposed to give it a trial run, but kept putting it off etc!). The TENS was brilliant - enough to get me through till about 11.15am. By then I was thinking - OK something MUST be happening now and off we went to the hospital.

I must say I was the 'siren' on the way as the pains got really quite intense (and I didn't have my birthing ball with me to lay over). Got to the labour ward and by this stage I was on my knees in reception (tres embarressing to think back, but at the time I didn't care). The midwife came and got me, took me to the birthing suite where I managed to say tell her what was what etc. Howled a bit through a contraction or two and then when she examined me the head was right there and she said 'just do what your body tells you'. So I pushed - and then baby was born!!!!! DH only just made it back from moving the car in time to rub an arm and say how well I was doing etc. No time for gas and air or anything.

We have decided on Olivia as a name - still deciding on second name.

Olivia had emptied her bowels slightly before she was born , thus the 24 hour stay (although had my own room etc, so no complaints there). However, all ok with Olivia and moi, so home now. YAY!

sorry for lack of finesse in post, but am typing with one hand (feeding at same time).

So in summery, contractions started about 6am and Olivia born at 11.47am - 7 pounds 2 and perfect ... so proud and happy!

Can't praise the TENS machine enough and the staff at Kingston Malden Suite.

Hope all are well and will catch up with everything soon.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

PS - will pop a piccy on the profile later too! .. OH and DD1 (I can say that now) is extremely happy it Olivia is a girl!!!!
