Thread title reflects the fact that every day that passes it dawns on me a bit more

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mummywannabe · 18/04/2008 10:13

Tjuice - you look fantastic ( looking down at scraggy PJ's)

Off work today, interesting that some of you have been feeling sick again. I was so so sick yesterday afternoon, could not stop heaving and had to get DH to pick me up from work. Came in and went straight to sleep. Off sick today, decided i needed sme TLC and to build up my strength. Think it might gave been caused by migraine brought on by lack of food, so now fighting to get my food intake up to stop the cycle happening again!

Minkus - bless your crying in loos, glad its not just me that has these weird hormonal moments

Pigley - ouch, blooming hamsters!
Tafftaff - know exacly what you mean about not realising how much energy you had in second trimester till its gone

Only 5 weeks left at work yipee!

babyontheway · 18/04/2008 10:14

Tafftaff I'm with you I just want to stop work buy baby stuff and eat cake!!

Libra1975 · 18/04/2008 10:41

Personally the cake thing for me isn't a pregnancy thing, it's just an everyday thing it's just no-one dares say anything against it when you are pregnant

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 11:13

Morning all,

I must say, this is why I love MN sooo much, and esp. this thread. I have been feeling rubbish for ages, tired emotional, snappy etc etc, and I am so glad I'm not the only one, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I'm soooo glad I'm not the only one who's struggling. I didn't feel like it at all last time (not that I can remember!) but then I didn't run around after a poorly and boistrous toddler all day long, so I feel for those who are on there 3rd (and 7th!)

I hope we all feel better soon, and I can only hope that we feel much better when we have our tiny beautiful babies in oor arms, as although we will all still be tired and emotional, we won't be pregnant anymore!

I'm so looking forward to next week, my mum is flying in from Spain on Monday night until Saturday and we are spending all week shopping! I've been holding off for mums visit, so she can be involved, so I'm really excited now!

DH has also just bought us a new laptop, I have warned him that I will be on MN while watching TV, doing dinner changing nappies etc, he's threatened me with divorce!!

Sorry for long post, but feeling chatty today...

Oh I can't remember who was asking but Kaz is on holiday I think, and has anyone heard from ShortShafe???

MINNIE1 · 18/04/2008 12:07

Jodie
So understand, DD's have days when there both whinging and wanting full attention all the time. Once there in bed you get a little time to yourself you start to feel some what ok again. Hard work being pregnant and looking after LO's but it will be all worth it one day.... Glad to be home really, being pregnant and far from home is not my thing i think i like my home comforts.

Babyontheway
wooo what a time your having.. Think you deserve a big slice of choc cake for all the little disasters..

All OK bump is tidy but sooo uncomfi sleep wise and bending etc... Weather is so cold today that i find i just could'nt be bothered going out! 12 weeks and counting have a scan in 3wks and hopefully bubs will show its bits... I like when i know as i find i bond easier, but i will be keeping it to myself only you lucky ladies will know

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 12:16

MINNIE I think the weather makes it worse. DS has been fine when I can let him in the garden and he can expel some energy out there where I know he is safe, now it's got cold and wet again he's stuck indoors!

shortshafe · 18/04/2008 12:56

Afternoon all!

waves at Jodie - am stil here!!

We've been decorating - I always nest in a big way! And it's totally wiped me out - am shattered. We've got friends staying this weekend, so have scrubbed the place in preparation, now I just want to sleep through the weekend!

Anyone going to the babyshow at birmingham? Fancy a meet up?

Have good weekends all, will be back on Sunday!

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 13:01

Hello there!! Glad your OK!

Am going to the baby show, on the Saturday. I've also got a spare (free) ticket if you want it? (but you have to go in with me, it's aplus one type of thing!)

grinningbee · 18/04/2008 13:08

Hi Sweetkitty!

Saw you were looking for me

This isn't the right thread for me, but if you can tell me where the "still eating cakes" thread is (you know thte one I mean) I'll catch up on there.

Still no bump here...

Sorry to jump in on your thread ladies!

MINNIE1 · 18/04/2008 14:14

Jodie
Same as that weather is cold and damp and could do without the sniffles and ear aches.. Roll on sunshine... Have to get the chicken wire out as DD1 is finding her way out through the hedge and into neighbours garden, not that they mind..

Lo's in bed and i am sitting woohoo peace and quiet is priceless....

minipinkscottish · 18/04/2008 15:00

Hi All

Welcome Judge Judy

Disney - still thinking of you!!

Well I have had an eventful couple of days with my hormones all over the place. Yesterday I attended 2 awards ceremonies for my ds age 15. One was at school in the afternoon where he was awarded school colours for sporting achienvement by Sir Menzies Campbell. Then at night he was names as "Sports person of the year with a disability" - I am so proud

Today - I had enrolled ds age 2 for timble tots and had waited for about 10 weeks to get in - today was his first day!!!! I was so looking forward to it....a little bit of special time for us alone before LO arrives......OMG Nightmare......he took one look at all the lovely apparatus and wanted to climb and explore but the girl taking it told me that the children all had to sit on the mat and listen to her instructions....listen to music and do stretches....and then they were only allowed to play on equipment in a certain way.....after 15 minutes ds was screaming and fighting with me and I was just about in tears....after 25minutes I left....practically ran to the car...then burst into tears. Problem is I've paid up front for a ten week course...help!!! I am quite a strict mum but this kind of regime for a 2 year old I felt was a bit harsh particularly on his first day......

Sorry for moan xxx seem to spend a lot of time crying these days....never mind going for 4D scan tomorrow...surely that will make me smile...xxx

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 15:07

Hi Minipink..

I used to go to Tumbletots with DS, untl he started not wanting to sit and stretch etc, but my local centre did the first one, no abligation and if you wanted to join after that then you enrolled properly, could you phone to see if you could get a refund? Failing that maybe perserverance is the key, once he knows what the bounderies are then he'd be OK?

Well done for your older DS I bet you are unbelievably (sp?) proud of him! How amazing! If he carries on the way he's going will he be at the 2012 Olympics? If so I bet he's annoyed it's in London and not somewhere more exotic (not that being in the Olympics in itself isn't exciting enough!)

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 15:08

Oh and good luck with the scan tomorrow! How much do they cost?

gillythekid · 18/04/2008 15:45

I'm expanding rapidly in all directions despite the continuing exercise, now I have weird fanjo pain after walking for longer than 15 minutes but despite all this, I'm so thankful not to be feeling as green as I was for the first four months. I read as many posts as possible here and feel I've got off lightly with all the hormonal mood swing mularkey, I seem to be on an even keel and not at all weepy or emotional, even when DH leaves wet towels on the bed. Maybe I'll be a snivelling wreck when baba arrives to make up for it!! I wish good health for everyone, mental and physical, may we all soldier on from here to maternity in one piece, despite wonky hips, sore nipples, stretch marks, sciatica and all the other stuff they don't tell you about until AFTER you get pregnant.

RUMPEL · 18/04/2008 16:30

Hi All,

JODIE - I shouted at my DD this morning I awoke at 12.30 last night with the wind howling and spent the rest of the night tossing and turning then DD had me up at silly am and was whinging and whinging and whinging and I couldn't make the bread toast any quicker and I lost it Felt like a very bad Mummy afterwards and cried myself - I am sooo tired just now. Strated taking spatone yesterday - don't think I ma aneamic but it would explain the tiredness.

TJUICE - you are so pretty! Your LO is gonna be gorgeous. Am of all you guys who look so good when pg. I look like a mouldy porridge blob!

MINIPINK - preen preen Well done your DS!

SHORTSHAFE - rest now and take it easy - all that stretching and paint smell. Kick back with some yummy food.

LIBRA - I am a cake addict too I made a choccy cake the other day, nutella in the middle and 85% choc drizzled on top. Still trying to get the hang of the oven in this house though so it is a bit dry. Am going to try my hand at a cherry madeira next. I made flapjacks, topped with caramel and 85% choc too - they are delicious!

MINKUS - the tooth brushing thing does it to me too. Can you not chew gum until later on the day? A 2 hour commute sounds horrific to me! I used to whinge about driving 30 mins!! How do you manage without peeing yourself. I just cannot hold it in and need to go loads now.

PIGLEY - when I was 8 months pg with DD 1 of my 3 cats brought in a wee mouse - I spent 2 hours moving furniture trying to catch the wee thing (I always let them go and try to save them) then it bit me!!! Small furry creatures are not good pets - much better with a rat.

SWEETKITTY Bethany is a truly beautiful name. Although I love Naeve/Niamh too.

I like Lexie as well.

Sorry if I have missed saying hi to anyone but so hard to keep up with this thread!

DISNEY - sending hugs and + vibes.

Re dry skin - this time is very importnat for essential fatty acids - I have increased mine to 2 a day and at least 1/2 avocado a day and moisturise like mad. My skin is still a bit dry though - make sure you all eat loads of essential fats!

Must go - need to search ebay for stuff.

Take care all.
xxxx

Jodie - my 4D scan is costing me £170 for 1 hour scan and dvd and 3 3D photos. The more expensive package gives you more pictures and a longer dvd.....but I don't think I would want any more xx

sweetkitty · 18/04/2008 19:14

Evening all had a lovely day out shopping, bought the DDs loads of things, got DD3 some new vests and babygros but unsure of sizes, newborn was up to 7lbs (erm don't think so), up to 1 month 10lbs and up to 3 months 14lbs so got the 3 month ones as I already have some newborn but it's so difficult. I suppose it's better to buy bigger then at least they can grow into them than buy little sizes that don't get used (DD2). Treated myself to some maternity combats and a t-shirt. Really don't want to spend much on maternity clothes for 3 months seems such a waste. Anyway paying for too much walking now and I have a friends whine and whinge night to go to tonight or Diet Coke and whinge if your me.

minipink - the 4D scan is lovely but to be honest I have never looked at the DVD a good picture is lovely though. Very exciting DD2 actually looked a bit like her scan pice when she was born. Tumbletots sounds a bit have you ever tried to make a 2yo sit if they don't want to? It's near on impossible of course your DS is going to want to run and climb. I think you should try and stick with it though. I go to a little music class with DD2 and sometimes all the Mummies are sitting in the circle singing and the DC are running amok. Huge well done to your older DS too.

shortshafe - nice to see you checking in

minnie - I agree it's hard work being pregnant and looking after LOs too, do you forget your pregnant sometimes as you are so busy with the other ones? I hope LO shows it's bits as well for you, can't wait to find out what flavour you are having too.

Jodie - I agree it's no nice to come on here and feel free to moan, in RL people will often say "how are you feeling?" and you automatically reply "fine thanks" when you aren't really.

Tjuice - will have to have a look in H&M now for nice bras.

lazyhippo - good to hear from you too

Rumpel - poor you but don't feel you are a bad Mummy sometimes they just push you too far. Thanks for saying Bethany is a lovely name too

Right sorry to anyone I have missed off but this is turning into a mega post.

pigleychez · 18/04/2008 19:19

Hi everyone

Nice to see old faces( or should i say names) returning again.

Completely understand about be desperate to leave work. I wake up most mornings and all i can think about is Could/should i ring in sick even though im not! I never do but just really wanna be snuggled up at home. Only 18 work days left but even that seems ages right now!

JODIE- I have a laptop and love it. I have been known to just lay in bed all day with my laptop..sooo lazy! on a none work day of course!
Also fab to sit in the garden with your laptop.. top up the tan at the same time!

MINIPINK- Well done your DS!! Enjoy the Scan tomorow.

I too have a 4d scan tomorrow afternoon. Were really looking forward to it Ours is £150 which is a 40 minute DVD, Wellbeing scan and a CD of 3d images.
Baby wriggles like crazy which will be fab to actually see! This morning you could actually feel a foot poking out my tummy. You could feel the heel and feel little toe lumps. DH was amazed!

The new Washer/dryer, fridge and freezer came today. DH has connected everything and it all looks fab! The washer/dryer is very swish with a large LCD screen etc. Have a huge thick manual to read now!

JODIEhavingababy · 18/04/2008 20:21

Evening..

Feeling alittle better now, just had a reflexology session so feeling nice and relaxed, so might do bath and bed... DH gone out, so it's nice and quiet!

Sweetkitty, just a thought but have you had your new cooker yet? you haven't mentioned it for a while so I guess you have but just thought I'd check!

Pigley - Lovely new appliances. I love gadgets!

Rumple - I know how you feel, luckily I had a good nights sleep last night and DS was at his grannies today so no snapping, hopefully tomorrow will be better! I do feel bad when I do snap though, but he soon learns when mummy is in a mood!

I'm going to bring the lists forward now as they haven't been updated for a while and there are a few new mummies to be, so feel free to up date any details (surprises, sex, your own details) and also any new tips!!

Minkus · 18/04/2008 20:34

Hello all

Pigley we must be leaving work about the same time then- my last day is May 19th (which is a Monday, silly day but just how my annual leave worked out.) What about you?

Gilly-saw your other post about pelvic pain- does sound like SPD, Kitty is it you who has the previous for this condition?

Rumpel- yes I could chew some gum I guess and leave the brushing until I'm at work- I am Wrigleys extra's biggest customer already as unless I am eating/chewing this stuff I feel revolting! Also commute isn't 2 hrs, just takes 1 hr to get me/ds ready then another hour from house-work via nursery so could be lots worse

TJuice- most disappointed at lack of food porn, pizza does not satisfy my lustings for descriptions of delicious vittels!

Hello to folks I've missed, there have been so many posts today I had trouble keeping up!

Well we've had a shit day here! Sorry to be blunt. Poor DS was sick three times in the night, I had cramp 5 times and then dh got up at 6am to pack a bag for his outing tonight which woke ds for the day so I am really tired today and ds is still a bit understandably grumpy. Dh has gone out for a "few" drinks with the boys tonight and so I'm doing bedtime (AGAIN!!!! he's not done it for about 3 weeks and then it was a rarity) as he is staying at one of their houses and I have been told he won't be back until late morning at the earliest as he's likely to have a big hangover. Great, so I will be doing everything tomorrow too . Hormones I know!

VALUABLE INFORMATION*

  1. It is quite common for baby girls to have a mini-period a few days after they are born. shock It is a withdrawal bleed from the exposure to all the hormones in the womb.
(My friend told me this when she had a DD, otherwise I would have been frantic when it happened to my DD) RUMPEL
  1. When your milk comes in (about 3 days after birth) they will be enormous, hot and rock hard. This extreme discomfort coincides with a happy hormone drop so don't be surprised if you spend the day sobbing. You'll feel better soon! ISAIDNO
  1. Do not buy disposable paper knickers and maternity sanitary pads for after the birth, they are really uncomfortable. Instead buy some really cheap supermarket pants and Always nighttime pads. You can then throw away the cheap pants. sweetkitty

4 There are very few musts in either pregnancy or child rearing. Treat all childcare and pregnancy advice like a pick and mix counter take what works for you and ignore what does not. KAZ

  1. The Lochia starts immediately after birth for which you require some form of sanitary pads. You may continue to experience pains similar to period pains for a couple of days after and possible pass a largish clot. This happened to me (the size of a small side plate) and I panicked thinking it was an undeveloped twin. After speaking to my midwife this is quite common (she'd had one the size of a dinner plate - I don't mean to alarm anyone!) but I had absolutely no idea what was happening and felt extremely scared until I'd received clarification. Best to save the evidence and show to MW or HV. Libraladyxx
  1. Try and stay in hospital as long as possible, esp. until Milk comes in and your Baby blues start! As once you get home, thats it!!!! Also, try and see as many visitors in the hospital as possible, so you don't have to entertain them yourself at home! Jodie x
  1. Do not wear expensive new nightwear or slippers when you are in hospital. The first time you stand up after giving birth, you will 'flood' a bit as the lochia will have pooled while you are lying down. And don't be embarrassed about it - the mws aren't! Poledra

8 Leading on form the last one you often can often flood when breastfeeding/expressing the number of poor Mums in tears I have had to borrow pads for from the wards white trousers are often not a good fashion look when you do

  1. Really no point worrying in advance about embarrassing indignities during labour - you honestly will not notice or care what you do or how you behave when the day comes. Also, wear something during labour that you are happy to throw away. You may not feel like wearing it afterwards, even when it's washed.
  1. If you get the chance before the baby is born (and your nesting takes full hold) cook loads of beef or quorn mince/onions/tomatoes and freeze it in take away tubs. When your new arrival appears all you've dp has got to do is boil some rice or pasta, defrost mixture and add mixed herbs or chilli beans for a really quick and relatively nutritious meal. You honestly will not want to cook.- Minkus

  2. Buy Toni and Guy's dry shampoo from Boots or Batiste's version (much cheaper but not quite as good) from Superdrug. On those days post birth when your hair really needs washing but you are exhausted, and you need to leave the house but are worried that folks will think you've lost it because of the oil slick in your hair- these products are amazing and will make your hair totally presentable.- Minkus

  3. I really think you can't cuddle them too much. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty about wanting to pick your baby up all the time if thats what makes you both happy.- Minkus

  4. If you have stithes down below or are even just feeling a bit bruised, get some super strength Arnica, also for at least a fortnight after giving birth have a bath every day with lavender oil in it. It's great for healing and preventing infection plus the lavender is really soothing. It's important to get even half an hour me time (especially if you have other DC). SWEETKITTY

  5. Be prepared to spend the first few weeks sitting feeding your baby a lot (if BFing), have phone, drink, snacks to hand. I am also planning on renting some good films and DVD box sets for cluster feeding in the evenings. (I have lovely memories of feeding DD2 in bed with a good movie on). sweetkitty

  6. Don't get worried if your baby doesn't poo every day, or even every other day, just be warned of the smelly explosion when it does happen. JODIE x

  7. On the subject of poo (mm lovely) the first few poo's are akin to tar (very, very thick and sticky!), so try putting vasaline on babies bottom at each nappy change to make it easier to scrape off! JODIE x

  8. If you don't manage breastfeeding or go onto bottles later on, make sure you invest in an avent milk holder. Fill your bottles with water as normal and take out and place the measured amount of milk in as and when required. Saves worrying about milk 'going off' when out for a day (especially in the hot weather). Water alone in a bottle won't go off. I found this was the best thing I bought. Libralady.

  9. You?ll be AMAZED at how swollen your undercarriage is ? no-one tells you that. I thought it was my stitches but it was my bits It is okay though, sounds worse than it is.

  10. Make sure you take loads of fruit (maybe even lactulose into hospital with you in case you are in for a few days and have drugs in labour). My DH went home with mine and the hospital had NO fruit/veg/salad and served up horrid salty food. Ended up with horrific constipation and had to get the Dr out a few days after birth

  11. Following on from last point - fruit somoothies seemed to work well for me in first couple of days - you really want the first post-birth poo to be as easy as possible!!

  12. Dare I say it...breastfeeding might well hurt to start with but this won't last forever and it is so worth it!

  13. OK another one with TMI - especially if you push for a while, you may well have bad piles - do ask the midwives for treatment, not worth being embarressed! Also second lavender in bath - pref with epsom salts - brill for healing bits and bottom!

  14. I carried a spare top with me for first few weeks as boobs would leak hugely at the most unexpected moments - particularly in Tesco for some reason... SHORTSHAFE

  15. Hormones do strange things to you - dd was born in October and I found my internal thermostat was haywire - i perspired massively all of the time - to the point that my hair was wet (yuck yuck yuck) until she was about 2 weeks old. SHORTSHAFE

  16. Babies can fire poo explosive distances - IME around 4ft! be prepared and buy carpet shampoo/carpet stain remover before the birth! SHORTSHAFE

  17. Sometimes it is painful to pee after delivery jug of warm water containing few drops of lavender oil poured over your bits while trying to pee can help. If it does not it sounds disgusting but pee in the bath. KAZ

  18. After an hour and twenty minutes, if still attached, your baby is not feeding anymore, s/he has fallen asleep! 40mins would be my maximum, and the sooner both of you can learn to feed lying down in bed, soooo much the better for night feeds and your sanity. Min912

  19. If you feel hot&cold and a bit 'under the weather' plus perhaps one breast is a bit sore, it's not just post-birth knackeredness, you quite probably have mastitis. Don't panic, feed or pump on the affected side (I found pumping after a feed reduced the pressure), use a hot flanel, if it doesn't get better see the doctor. Min912
28a mastitis normally effects 1/4 of a breast If practical (because it depends what 1/4 it is) try and feed baby so their bottom jaw is on that 1/4 this can help move the blockage which is usually the initial cause. As long as there are no medical reasons why you should not take most midwives recommend Ibuprofen as pain relief for this. Kaz

  20. At some point you will very probably find yourself thrusting the baby at your DH/DP the minute they come in the door and running off to throw yourself on the bed in tears because you've had a mare of a day. This does NOT make you a bad mum, it means you are human. Tomorrow will be better, honest. Min912
