I haven't posted for ages either, since haven't wanted to moan too much. I'm now 11 days over and going in tomorrow for induction. Don't feel great (a little tense, nervous, etc), am knackered but really don't think I can sleep. My other two were 10 or 11 days late, so I had expected to go well over, but had really hoped it would have happened by itself.

Still I have my fingers crossed that by this time tomorrow night I'll be cuddling a brand new baby - and that I will no longer be reliant on Gaviscon.

Prisci - love the idea of your balanced diet

Someone was asking about sweeps - when I had my dd1 and 2 (7 and 4 years ago) I hadn't heard of them and wasn't offered one, even though they were v late. My midwife this time said that it was policy to wait until 41 weeks before offering - which I had - unpleasant and completely unproductive by the way. It seems that in the last few years there has been a big development in policies and general bureaucracy regarding pregnancy/induction, whereas before it just depending on whether your midwife thought there was any benefit in being swept.

Hope I will be posting with something positive in the very near future.

HolidaysQueen · 17/03/2008 23:17

Prisci - feeling hot and bothered is definitely an officially-approved late pregnancy symptom so no need to worry (although plenty of reason to be irritated by it ). My pregnancy book has a whole section under week 38 about hot flushes. I was paranoid about it too until I read that.

Congratulations waiting4bambino. And what another lovely name! Us March ladies have fabulous taste

Right, I'm off to bed. Very tired after a long walk today plus have newly laundered bed linen so am very smiley (in a sleepy way) at the prospect of diving under the duvet. Night night, all!

AdelaideJo · 18/03/2008 09:51

Arrrrgh I'm SOOOO sleep deprived now. Got into bed with abdominal cramps, which I can only say must have been wind-related but they managed to stop me sleeping. Think I slept between 3 and 4am and then threw OH out of the bed for his constant fidgeting at 0430 .

Am off to acupuncture at 1115 so I'm crossing my fingers something begins. I'm only 40 +1 so don't have anything to complain about really compared to some, but I'm not keen on induction AT ALL anymore. Work colleague of my OH (who works in the unit where I am due to deliver) said "oh thats an elective section then, as is *'s policy har ha ha". OH just stared hard at him and said "No thats not what we want" but..........
Am due to see consultant at 40+3 so we'll just see what happens. I'm certainly not going in over Bank Holiday easter to get stuck with an overworked midwife and very junior obstetrician through an induction.

HQ I hope yr nice bed linen gave you a good night - I am doing the same religiously each week hoping that I'm going to be crispy-cottoned to a settled night!

Lets banish these horrid night sweats!

HolidaysQueen · 18/03/2008 10:46

AdelaideJo - I did sleep surprisingly well last night despite very achy pelvis - maybe I should have clean sheets every night Good luck with the acupuncture - I find the needles too freaky, but I've just booked a reflexology session for Thursday morning when I hit 39 weeks in the hope that it can at least persuade the baby to get moving even if he doesn't actually want to make an appearance straight away. A few friends have recommended it to me as it worked for them. I'm prepared to try anything!

beckyndanuk · 18/03/2008 11:16

Was on this thread at the begging of my pregnancy but kinda lost touch! Sorry. Hope everyone is OK
Anyway due tomorrow and have tried EVERYTHING, Sex, Spicy food, long walks, pineapple juice, rasperry leaf tea nipple stimulation (With and without breast pump) evening primrose oil, and reflexology. Am going spare. DS was 10 days late and DD 2-3 days late so I have no hope! Any other suggestions (Not castor oil)

skidoodle · 18/03/2008 11:34

wow, a big weekend. Congratulations to all the new mums and welcome to all the new babies.

I'm still waiting and now 40+10 - have had almost no signs of impending labour so not even graduated to the "am I in labour?" thread.

Tomorrow I'm booked in for induction, or at least I'm to head in tomorrow afternoon providing they have space for me.

AdelaideJo · 18/03/2008 13:47

Acupuncture - WOW. If you haven't done it, do it do it do it. Its really relaxing but vitalising at the same time, but most importantly, at the end of the session I had a super-slowmotion gentle Braxton, and then had that sickly-feeling baby turning from side to side sensation as it moved down further into the pelvis, along with a big pressure on my bottom.

Now i'm trying to will on a 'clear-out' (sorry TMI!) so that I can distinguish between what a proper contraction is and what is a rumbling intestine .

HQ my therapist today said that reflexology is also very productive .

I am going to try to keep my nice calm attitude for the rest of the day and not fret/complain/get angsty.

turtle23 · 18/03/2008 15:05

Jo- I had acupunctureyesterday and am going again tomorrow. Shh..dont let DH know, he will kill me if he finds out how much money I have spent and am going to continue spending on it...

merryberry · 18/03/2008 18:03

acupucture must be easier to hide from your other half than a stealth pair of shoes or cheeky sparkly top that you bought off budget, hey turtle? i now have visions of you trying to explain away your new delivery

'This old thing, oh I've had this for ages, don't you remember seeing it before? or

'>this< baby? oh i picked it up cheap in the sale, massive discount, good value, heh?'

C'MON MORE MARCH BABIES!

JFly · 18/03/2008 18:42

Yeah, and I figure acupuncture and such treatments come out of the "mental health" section of the household budget. And you really want to take care of my mental health, DH!

MissingMyHeels · 18/03/2008 23:40

Am back home after a sneaky early discharge as Tilly has been transferred to a neo natal unit at St Georges (we're Epsom) and they couldn't get me a bed and I wasn't prepared to go a whole 24hrs without seeing her!! She had a suspected intestine block but scans now showing up fine and hoping she is back in our local neo natal tomorrow. I am totally and utterly smitten and don't think I have ever seen a more perfect beatiful baby [gtin] [puke]

Induction was awful - avoid if you can ladies, my body wouldn't progress past 4cm and I was so distressed at being forced to lie down through contractions and nothing happening that I was warned about the hospitals zero tolerance policy emergency cs was nowhere near as awful as I thought it would be and the pain is very manageable. Post natal care has been of the highest standard - think prob as they are v.quiet at mo - so thrilled as had been told the opposite but it's all been great, apart from the food!

Congrats to all of you with new babies (haven't had a chance to read everything yet) and good luck to all of you still waiting - try and be patient!!

turtle23 · 19/03/2008 08:13

Glad you're back, MMH, you must be going mad not seeing her every second!
Jfly and MB...you see, the problem is that DH now works from home and has started keeping track of my every movement so he is never too far in case of labour. What he doesn't realise is that as I am a March MNer I wont ever HAVE this baby so he could go to Australia and still make it back in time. That and we accidentally emptied my bank account into the joint one instead of his yesterday so now have to pay for stuff from joint account for next three days while it transfers back.

OP posts:
CricketsMum · 19/03/2008 11:51

MMH - sorry to hear she's been poorly but congratulations again! Fingers crossed she is back in Epsom really really soon. Hope you are recovering well too.

Turtle - can you resort to credit cards??

turtle23 · 19/03/2008 12:38

Bless my midwife team...they saw me this morning and whispered very quietly "You know we can't start doing sweeps til 41 weeks OFFICIALLY, but you look a bit fed up...we won't tell if you won't..."
So had a go, cervix soft, anterior and very effaced but still quite closed. She did have a bloody good dig though, and said he wasn't going to get any further down without making an appearance...hurrah! Ran into girl from my NCT class with her little one...so broody now I can't wait to hold him!!

OP posts:
skidoodle · 19/03/2008 12:42

MMH congratulations, you must be thrilled. I'm so

I'm also a bit terrified at the induction story. I'm meant to be going in this afternoon to be induced, just waiting for the hospital to ring and tell me if they have room.

I have had almost no signals at all of impending labour and I'm 11 days over, so I feel very much like I have the March 08 curse of non-emergent babies.

Why did you have to lie down? Does anyone else know if this is a normal part of being induced ?

Is it wrong that I'm impressed at you being warned of a "zero tolerance policy" (whatever that is)?

JFly - you still around or headed in to be induced? I think there were a few of us with "smoke 'em out" dates around now.

Wish me luck everyone, I'm kind of terrified this morning. Up to now I've been very calm. I guess because there has never seemed any realistic prospect of labour until this moment.

spugs · 19/03/2008 12:46

some very sad news from feedmenow here , thoughts with her and her family at this time

AdelaideJo · 19/03/2008 13:06

Can "induction is awful" stories please go on the post-natal board and not on here.....

it does nothing positive other than freak out those of us still waiting who might have to be induced.

Sorry to be arsey but i don't need the heebie jeebies about it, frankly.

iliketosleep · 19/03/2008 13:10

hi all,

congrats on all the little bundles that have so far shown their little faces

I've just read feedmenows post and am in complete shock!
i dont know what to say but i offer my condolances to her and family

ITS SO UNFAIR!!

JFly · 19/03/2008 13:12

Hey ski. Still here, but looks like I'm in early stages of labour and managed to escape going to hospital for induction today. Started having contractions about 4:45am and they're at about 5 minutes apart and lasting 1 minute or so. Haven't really changed much since they started, so may have some time yet in limbo.

Hoping things progress, but don't plan to go to hospital until I want to stay there!

Very best of luck with your induction - try not to panic. You still have control!

skidoodle · 19/03/2008 13:29

I'm so pleased for you JFly plus a bit . Hope it all keeps progressing nicely.

I was sort of hoping for a last minute reprieve as it seems to happen for some people, but this baby seems to be pretty determined to make this a 50 week pregnancy.

fitnfortyone · 19/03/2008 14:23

hi all, the quick version:

Edwyn Douglas FnF was born by emergency cs on Sat 15th at 17.08, just as Wales were scoring their first points in the final grand slam game. Dad is not impressed at having to miss the match, but we think Eddie makes up for it.
He's 8lb 14, 61cm long and 37cm head circ.

Just got home from hosp last night, so knackered but had a better sleep than i had in the last 5 or so days!

Congrats to the new arrivals, and hope anyone still waiting doesn't have too much longer to go!

skidoodle · 19/03/2008 15:00

FnF - congratulations

Sweet that Eddie waited until such an auspicious moment to make his appearance. The Welsh team definitely had a little something extra going for them on Saturday

OK so I rang the hospital again and I'm to go in at 4 o'clock. They're not certain there will be a bed for me as I guess they're pretty busy but they don't want to leave me any longer.

I guess I'm glad not to have been put off until another day as I've definitely got myself psyched up and I don't really have any hope of things getting going spontaneously. Perhaps my refusal to drink any kind of tea was a mistake ;)

I'm so nervous but trying to stay calm. I guess I always imagine that when I was going into hospital I'd be already in labour with my TENS machine buzzing away.

Best of luck to those of you still waiting. Hope it all comes good and you all get the births you've been looking forward to and lovely babies to snuggle. See you on the other side.

sk.

HolidaysQueen · 19/03/2008 15:04

Congratulations fnf; good luck skidoodle!

spugs · 19/03/2008 15:11

congratulations fnf

adelaide - i wouldnt worry about induction being awful, just because it is for one person doesnt mean it will be for another, you could say exactly the same thing for labour. plus its always best to be prepared for any eventuality.

skidoodle & jfly- looking forward to your birth announcements hopefully nice and soon

AdelaideJo · 19/03/2008 15:44

Thanks Spugs, I'm so bent out of shape today. Have a consultant appt. tomorrow (am 40+2) and its put me in a RIGHT BAD OLE MOOD; I don't mean to take it out on the lovely mums here .
