derah · 16/03/2008 20:24

fitn41 posted about contractions 10 mins apart on the childbirth board on thurs so i hope that means she's cuddling her lo right now (pardon no caps, left arm holding bf-ing baby!)

spugs · 17/03/2008 08:07

congratulations missing my heels

timmyinatizzy · 17/03/2008 09:11

Hello everyone. Pleased to say that Luke and I are home now. Stayed in hospital until I was happy with breastfeeding. He bit me a little bit to start with, and I had a few bruises on the areola but they go so quickly. Can't believe how quickly he came. Will post a birth story later on.

Congrats to MMH and 4madboys and Jayne on their little bundles too. Good luck to E14, sounds like the second sweep did the trick!

papaya · 17/03/2008 10:50

all good here tho, i am knackered but up and about and just back from the school run where ds1 and ds2 were very keen to show off there new brother, still no name tho.....

tori32 · 17/03/2008 16:29

Congratulations Papaya .

The thread has gone suspiciously quiet

HolidaysQueen · 17/03/2008 16:38

tori - it's very quiet on here mainly because people either have a newborn or are moaning on the "am i in labour?" thread about whether they'll ever get a newborn

i had a good old moan on there this morning as i didn't want to spoil the happy baby mood on here. i'm feeling a bit better as i finally got this day started at 1pm and then had a long walk, but i'm now so stiff that i'll probably be back on there moaning before long...

JFly · 17/03/2008 16:43

Amen, HQ. Trying to stay off boards b/c I have nothing but whinging and worrying to do. Think I shall have a lie down. That will kill some time!

monthlymayhem · 17/03/2008 16:47

Congrats Papaya!

Have had a very stressful morning. The saga with our bathroom installation continues, resulting in me driving to the supplier warehouse this morning and sitting outside in tears until they could get me a replacement toilet (was initially told it would be at least Friday!)....The one they delivered was faulty and so was left last night with having to flush the old toilet using a bucket Thank goodness they took pity on me, and new toilet should be installed this evening I was very worried LO would choose last night to make an appearance which wouldn't have been good timing!

If LO can just hang on a few more days we might actually have it finished in time

Anyway, planning to go for a swim tonight to relax a little!

Sending labour vibes to all those needing them x

AdelaideJo · 17/03/2008 17:02

Am 40 weeks today....anyone else due today?

No signs at all, apart from almost constantly needing to poo (sorry if TMI).

Done the usual trickery to bring on labour, all to no avail. Am considering acupuncture as its just been recommended to me......hmmmm.

Interestingly, I'm noticing how many women are having sweeps before their 40 week dates (or maybe i have misread that)....my hospital doesn't even offer a sweep - its pessaries firstly and then synto. drip.

merryberry · 17/03/2008 17:26

hi adelaide, you need to graduate to the am i in labour? thread as well!

turtle23 · 17/03/2008 17:30

tori...no. no baby turtle. he is most definitely shy. am having words with him.

Yep MB have checked it out - shows and signs, aches and pains ...

just sweaty hot flushes here

HolidaysQueen · 17/03/2008 18:10

AdelaideJo - I'm with you on the sweaty hot flushes! I have been switching all our radiators off as I thought our new double glazing had made the house much warmer, but DH was freezing yesterday so it's clearly just another irritating late pregnancy symptom!

Also I'm with you on sweeps - I don't see a midwife again until 41 weeks (please God, don't let me last that long!) as I'm being checked by my GP until then so that's the earliest I'd be getting one, although I don't yet know if they offer them or not.

I'm quite that places don't offer them though - surely it's much cheaper for the NHS to try to bring on labour naturally with a sweep than go straight to pessaries and drips and increase the likelihood of continuous monitoring, intervention that could occur.

MarchNowFebMum · 17/03/2008 18:23

AJo - I had to poo lots just before water broke! (And you'll remember I was previously president of the anti-poo club). Def TMI :.0

Good luck...

littleducks · 17/03/2008 19:15

Congrats to all those with babies.

No sign of baby here. Had some aches and got excited but little monster is comfy! Shame i am far from it.

waiting4bambino · 17/03/2008 20:18

Hi all, finally I can say I'm a mother!! I havent posted in ages, but have been lurking for a while, you may recognise me from previous threads... Phoebe was born on the 5th March, 5 days late, by emergency c section, after a failed induction.
I won't lie to you! It was bloody horrific! But she's worth it! Here's what happened:
went for what i thought was a chat with a consultant on the Monday, as Phoebe had shown as a big baby and they were concerned that she was bigger than my dates etc. She gave me a sweep there and then, which was so agonising i was writhing up the bed and almost crying, and there and then, my waters broke. They sent us home, saying that i may go into labour naturally overnight. Well, after much tossing and turning, nothing happened! The following morning we had to return to the hospital, and at 8am i was given Prostin etc, waited the 6 hours, and again, nothing happened, so had to repeat this process. Both internals were agonising i might add! Finally then, after my husband had gone home, at 4 in the morning, i felt as if the contractions were starting, and so had a nice warm bath and they gave me paracetamol! Paracetamol!! That doesnt even get rid of my headaches!!
Anyway, the pains were quite bearable, so when the docs came round again in the morning, they examined me once again and said that nothing had happened, and to go to the delivery suite to be started on the drip. Midwife broke my hind waters (what a mess!!) and then i was hooked up to the drip. Well, i had every pain relief available!! Started with gas and air, went a few hours, then had pethidine, few hours went by again, and then had epidural, plus top up a few hours later! After much poking and prodding around down there, 17 hours later, they said that i was still only 5cm, and that nothing was progressing, I was so hanging at this point, they decided to operate as the baby's heartbeat was dropping with each contraction with the drip at its maximum effect. So, I had the c section, which was wonderful compared to what i had imagined, and out came Phoebe at 9lb 7oz!! The cord was around her neck and her head coming in the wrong position too, so there was no way she was coming out down there!
She's now blissfully sleeping in her moses basket, and i am recovering, just have a bad back and severe constipation!! Apart from that, everything is amazing!

tori32 · 17/03/2008 20:36

Congratulations! waiting4bambino glad you are on the road to recovery and sorry it was so traumatic for you at the end.
Glad you seem positive now x

turtle23 · 17/03/2008 20:58

Congrats WFB! Glad things are better now and that you've got your prize.
Am hoping that with each baby born that I am actually moving up in the queue...

Holiday Queen and Adelaide Jo, I am in the same club regarding feeling hot, it had not happened so far, and panicked a bit on Saturday night since it was a new pregnancy 'hassle', checked every possible website regarding late pregnancy flushes etc... on Sat night but nothing...grr.... Poor DP, I was so stressed about it, that he also did not sleep well, thinking that we might be going into labour soon. Pooping a lot too .

Friday is also a new moon, so hopefully LO will come out early, due on the 24th of March but by conception I think I am more on the 30th, but getting a bit fed up of being pregnant indeed.

In the meanwhile, trying to convince myself that a diet of chocolate, raspberry leaf tea and pineapple is completely balanced.
