Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

Another nice day here in Fife!![smile}

Any more new arrivals?

Feeling so tired, stiff and huge.....ah the joys....9 and a bit weeks to go...

mcchesers · 12/05/2008 10:22

eek starting to get nervous whinegums..there are a lot of bumps in shawlands lately. I hope there is room for us in the SG! Are you finished with work yet?

I had some other fellow prego ladies over at the house this evening so that we could gorge on snacks away from prying eyes and be baby bores. It was nice.

whinegums · 12/05/2008 15:46

Hi mcchesers! Yes, am seeing bumps everywhere I turn. I also worked out that my due date coincides with conception around the time of the Glasgow September holiday so I reckon it might be busy then - like 9.5 months after Christmas!

I'm having my tour of the SG next Monday. And I finish work that week too - can't wait! How are you getting on?

How is everyone else? Maybe I shouldn't speak too soon, but I'm doing well - surprised how being up the stick hasn't really affected me that much - killer heartburn and slightly dodgy gums aside. Really feel for those with SPD, carpal tunnel, water retention, diabetes, etc etc etc. DP commented on how well pregnancy suits me - I suppose I'm probably fitter than I've been in years what with not indulging my bad habits after all!

I could have told you that end of June due date coincides with sept weekend

I am boiling, can't face buying more mat clothes, but am struggling to find anything to wear that is not black or too thick for this weather. eek. apart from being too hot though, have had pretty much no symptoms, not even heartburn, keep waiting for something awful to start for the last few weeks! My Auntie told me pregnancy suited me the other day, mind you, quite happy to give it up in a few weeks!

monkeytennis · 12/05/2008 15:55

Hi there! Im due my first baby on 2nd august 08. Im originally from northern ireland and we have just moved out from Glasgow to Lanarkshire recently.
Thanks to dizzydixies for telling me about this thread!

whinegums · 12/05/2008 16:02

Hi monkeytennis, congratulations!

Laura - hmmmmm - didn't cross my mind before! Oh lordy! I managed to get into my non mat white linen trousers last week, with the help of a belly belt, bump band and a long top - was lovely and cool! I know what you mean - I keep waiting for my fingers to turn into sausages!

I keep wondering if I should take my rings off now to prevent disaster later, but am reluctant to do so! I found a summer skirt in my drawer this morning with an elasticated waist and it has been heavenly today!

dizzydixies · 12/05/2008 18:31

evening all - get yourself down to matalan and indulge in the much cheapness of bigger clothing and sod buying more matty wear

lauraT my rings are off as its just not worth the effort putting them on and off again - I do miss them though lol

mybabysinthegarden · 13/05/2008 16:21

Gosh, not been on for a couple of weeks and it's all going on! Congratulations to all the new arrivals!

Had my 16-week check today with the mw who last saw me desperately struggling to get bf going with dd1. She asked how long I'd kept it up in the end and seemed pleasantly surprised when I said 9 1/2 months, so that was nice. But also a bit emotional remembering what a hard time I had with it. I really hope it turns out to be easier with dc2.

That's all my news; can't wait to hear about the next arrivals!

minipinkscottish · 14/05/2008 09:49

Hi all!!

mybabysinthegarden - as you know this is going to be baby number 6 for me and if it's any comfort to you I have always had a hard time at the start of bf - sometimes for as long as 10 weeks but like you I persevered and fed them for a long time - the last one till 21 months

Anyway I'm not anticipating it being easy just determined to keep going and with all you mumnetters hoping to stay positive xxx

dizzydixies · 14/05/2008 17:08

afternoon all, nothing but good news to report here

couldn't see any areas of seperation on the scan so she thinks that it has all settled, only need to worry if I start bleeding again but seeing as I haven't for 10wks now am going to let myself get all excited and finally admit that there is a baby on the way

am 29+2 apparently and baby is measuring slightly above average, no great surprise there though as I have whoppers

back in again at 35wks when will have another scan and discuss my labour options with the consultant

friend also had her baby this morning by elective C/S - a wee boy 8lb2, no name as yet but knowing her it will be something exotic

sweetkitty · 14/05/2008 17:14

Keep forgetting about this thread

dizzy - great news about the scan (and you resisted finding out the flavour your a better woman than me) have you had previous sections with your whoppers then?

monkeytennis - hello and welcome to our thread, whereabouts in Lanarkshire are you?

mybabyisinthegarden - I struggled at the start BFing my first but I think with the second you are more relaxed I was anyway. You will find tremendous support on here for BFing.

did I see baiyu's birth annoucement will have to go check now

minipinkscottish · 14/05/2008 20:51

dizzy - fab news!!! Now relax and enjoy....you're going to be a mummy again xx

mcchesers · 15/05/2008 09:06

dizzy - great news!

Morning Ladies! I went to the first of the antenatal classes at the Milbrae last night. A bit tense as all the dads wanted desperately to get away for the football. I think the midwife we had was really nice for the class. It was also nice that we were all about the same age.

She did talk about some of the changes in practice in the SG and what was working and what wasn't. Still I think there is a lot to learn and it's a good place to ask questions.

whinegums · 15/05/2008 11:01

Hi all. Mcchesers, have to say the antenatal classes have got better. My last one is on Monday, when we have the hospital visit. Seems like the mws aren't all singing from the same hymn sheet about the protocol changes though, cos some say one thing and then it's something different from another one! And not til 16 June, when it all miraculously changes .

I have found them useful over all, and glad I persevered! Some of the others in my class have been to the bf workshop already, and said they were good too. I'm going to one at the beginning of June.

mcchesers · 15/05/2008 13:02

WG - What did they say was going to change on June 16th? I liked this lady, she had done some fetal monitoring for me and we discovered we both had an addiction to crunching ice.

I'm taking the weekend intensive course through the NCT which finishes with a breastfeeding class. I'm really just doing the NHS courses to get me out of the house and to meet other pregos. My DH was so funny, he said he'd never been around other dads-to-be before, so overall it was a good experience. I'm really chuffed at having the antenatal centre so close by.

So when do you finish up?

whinegums · 15/05/2008 13:46

Hospital protocols - like the timings for when doctors would start to intervene - at the moment it seems like there's a timetable of so many hours for first stage, second stage, etc, and if you don't keep to that, then the docs are on your case! From 16 June, I gather the approach is going to be led more by the midwives, and as long as you're progressing, even if slowly, they won't start to interfere. Also, at the moment they don't allow you to eat or drink during labour (my own personal horror!) but they will when things change!

V strange if you ask me, should I end up in labour before my due date I will be questioning/refusing/etc (or getting DP to do it!).

I finish up next Thursday, can't wait!!!!!!

Have to say, the mws doing the antenatal classes so far have been good, despite the dreadful first week. It seems they do have a pretty non-interventionist attitude when it's not needed, and one actually said they would try and keep the doctors away!

Hi all - where are all you Scottish ladies? xx

monkeytennis · 19/05/2008 03:45

Hi minipinkscottish, well ive been working the nightshift. Not a good look when you are 30 wks preg. I have realised im going to have to insist on day shifts. I wanted to finish up at about 35 weeks but i dont think im going to make it that far!

Sweetkitty - Im in blantyre, are you around the same area?

LauraT · 19/05/2008 09:31

have been hanging out in June thread, it's all gone quiet here for a bit hasn't it?

monkeytennis, definately try and get off night shift, you must be exhausted. you never get as good a sleep during the day at the best of times surely!
