Hi, a message for jay from the march 07 group. Good luck Jay, let us know when the babe arrives xxxx

omy · 12/03/2008 21:01

Tyaca - BIG BIG sympathy for concrete boobs and sore fanjo!!! spasms of pain doesn't sound good - may be pelvic floor exercises will help? I am 4 weeks on and only now feeling about right down there - still not contemplating sex unlike lolo! Also - so distressing when lo cries. I too am using a dummy which is really helping the colicky evenings.

Sarah - you make me very about your sleep! Am going to give LO a bottle of formula at 11pm feed tonight to give myself 5 hours straight (hopefully!) only disadvantage is that my boobs will be rocks by then! Rosie looks a lot like my LO - v v cute.

rozzy - we are on the infacol too - stupid me keeps forgetting to give it though! duh. that may be why i havent seen much improvement yet!

bean - how nice to have some cavalry to relieve you! - why 19 weeks by the way? i too am winding mid feed and have a too-fast let down. poor mite much prefers her evening bottle where she can regulate the flow better. i am trying sage drops to reduce my supply - on bf consultant's advice. Also going to osteo tomoz - thanks to princess for
recommendation!

mitford - sympathy for mil stress.

violetta - good for you to have come so far with bf when it was so painful & distressing at first. We are giving 1 bottle
of formula a day and i am quite pleased that dh can take some of the responsibility and i could even go out if i want to (one day...!)

jay and princess - you must be soooo fed up - big sympathy - i was totally stressed and i was only a week over. my induction went well though - only 1 prostglandin pessary needed - lets hope you have good experiences however it turns out.

egg - i think infacol and winding would help with puking if puking is due to air bubble under milk (which is the case with my LO)

widget - i am using aptamil too - it is supposed to be lighter than the others. Bethan really IS gorgeous!! your dh is rather cute too!!!

Ginger - another strange mil experience - i wonder what sort of mil WE will all make???

Gill79 · 12/03/2008 21:19

Glad you seem to be getting there with b/f Tyaca - now you're making progress don't stress the nipple shield / expressing / scheduling issues too much - just do what feels right, we're still changing the way we do things at 6 weeks and the wee man is now more 50% bigger than his birth weight so must be working! If I scared you before with labour and b/f stories you've now scared me over the idea of natural birth ant the damage it causes.... do not envy you that at all and must just add to the stresses of life at the mo.

BTW - what a gorgeous tiny little girl!

Oh and also I was really worried about DP going back to work but... it was fine. Not scary or lonely just fine.

Egg - did your gp say anything about DD's non smiling (it was her not him wasn't it?) TBH we're feeling a bit unloved as although he is fascinated by all sorts of things - light, shade, colours etc he just doesn't look at us at all. He does seem to make eye contact with other people on occasions though.... It's a bit disheartening really as it would be so good to get some recognition from him, and we're beginning to worry a little bit. Guess they're all different though.

Well I am feeling a bit rotten - I've lost my appetite . I miss my appetite. Think it must be a virus or something, have also been feeling very washed out and feverish and out of sorts, but have basically gone from being hungry all the time to being completely uninterested in food and having to force myself to eat anything. Not too worries at the mo as have a fair bit of fuel in my reserve tanks .

Lovely pics PK - wish we could manage to take anything vaguely art and nice.... Hope you're feeling ok and not getting down. Although I felt we bonded early on it's definitely a continual process.

Jaysthird · 12/03/2008 22:16

Princess... email me at

[email protected]

you can be the messenger, thats very good of you...!!

repacked bag, had a cry, asked baby to come out in the next few hours....had a bath, now off to bed.

calling hospital at 8 in morning, will let you know when i am offski.

Night all

tyaca · 13/03/2008 00:15

GL Jaythird if you have the check in before tomo. Looking forward to the new addition to our collective cyber brood. your comment about your DH rubbing feet made me smile- men can be so CRAP about rubbing.

princess - well, nothing in the budget for ginger babies. myself, lo and DH all a bit narked, tbh. ho hum. will you get your DH's attention back now? yeh, i was a right shitter at the end, i did laught at your blaming it on the builders comment. and the thought of you blowing drying your muff. and NOTE how good i am, not asking about your operation in the region. nothing, not even a hint of a nosey question

ty all for you lovely words of support and sypmathy. this thread has really kept me going over the last few months... and sod all those rl wierdos who've started glazing over as i start yet another sentence with a bit of info about someone from here

violeta - glad bf on track - sounds like a tough start. i am only 2 days in really, but cant imagine not using those sheild things. they have saved me. a couple of people have mentioned that there may be problems if you use them for a long time - if your mw gives you any clues why, i'd be keen to know more.

widget, glad you too have got feeding into place. my sil has been searching for good formulas and has apparently settled on a goats milk one. if you interested i could find out what - she takes these things v seriously, so reckon any recommendation is based on solid research

ginger - i had to laugh at the yelping fart. feeding lo today and i thought she was letting out lots of v wet farts//pooing - the noise was actually coming from her head - it was a sort of snore combined with a milky head.

bean - your committment to 19 more weeks of bf is amazing. i am just pleased for every feed.

today best day so far. lots of bf, sis came round this evening and dh came back from work with a bottle of champagne that i v enjoyed. not all of it, you understand...

on that subject, off to haunt feeding thread,

Lucyand2 · 13/03/2008 08:17

Violeta - good luck with the silver nitrate treatment, I hope it works first time for your LO. I'm still waiting for the infacol to kick it but stories of it working keep me going!

Egg - I thought these granuloma things were rare but obviously not! I hope it clears up soon, DD2's is still leaking. We're back for another treatment next week. A bit random but which carpet cleaner have you got again? I'm thinking about asking for one for my birthday (sad I know)

Had a rubbish day yesterday thanks to very little sleep, DD1 filling her nappy constantly and DD2 screaming for hours on end. Got soaked through with vomit then sobbed through the entire clothes change for me and DD2, felt much better after! My dads visiting today so we'll get out for the first time in days

beansprout · 13/03/2008 09:09

I'm really sorry, I think that my comment about 19w of b/feeding was really insensitive given that there are people on here who are working really hard to try and establish feeding and having a hard and painful time. I'm really sorry, I just wasn't thinking. I didn't mean anything by it. I would hate to upset anyone on here, you lot keep me going on many a knackered and stressful day.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 13/03/2008 11:04

Hi ladies- Just to please you al DD slepft thru again last night from 9-30 til 5am, had a feed and slept til 8!!!

i cannot believe how well she is doing!!!!

Hope you are all well,

Lucy- i hope you have a better day today- enjoy getting out!!!!

GL- Jays- hopr you are ok!!!

Princess- you look like the last man standing !!!!

rozzyraspberry · 13/03/2008 11:16

Beansprout - don't feel bad - we all know what you mean - it's reassuring that even experienced bf like yourself find it hard going at times. Mixed feelings about solids here - good as hopefully we'll get more sleep at nights but dreading the pureeing, mashing, orange stains (on everything!).

Tyaca/vioeta - how are you both getting on with bf now - you're both doing really well persevering and I hope things are getting easier .

Omy - I have my little corner on the sofa with my bf cushion, infacol and lansinoh so it's easy to remember the infacol. My lo occasionally goes 4/5 hours in the night without feeding and yes we do get concrete boobs. Not so bad as it was with ds2 though - I remember him getting covered in sprayed milk whilst I tried to get him latched on many a night. If you're going to give your lo formula make sure you get your dh to do it so you can sleep!!!

Andrew has a cold - I feel so sorry for him he must be wondering what's going on. His eyes are watering a lot too - I'm assuming that's just because he has the cold?

GL Jaysthird and princessxx

Egg · 13/03/2008 11:59

Beany I dont imagine anyone took your comment that way. It wouldnt have crossed my mind at all. I think it is obvious from the rest of your posts that you are a lovely young lady and not one for trying to wind others up .

Just fed both babies and neither has had a burp. Have tried and tried. Feel I am just waiting for the puke now.

Sarah we had the same last night! Well kind of. DS2 fed at 9:50pm and then slept til 5:45am so almost EIGHT HOURS. DD only managed six though, and I didn't manage to get back to sleep in between feeding her and then him. I then forced myself to wake them up but not until 7:30 as was dealing with DS1 til then. DS2 was not interested having only just fed and managed 70ml but it has got him back on track so they both fed at 11:20 and he drained it.

Lucy I have the Bissel DirtLifter (or something similar). I will double check and let you know. I just cant believe the amount of dirt it gets, but the carpet still looks shite! However I feel better knowing it has hopefully removed the baby puke!

Gill I forgot to even ask the doc about smiling despite writing a list of points I meant to raise. Strangely about 5 mins before I sat down to type this I was holding her trying to get a burp and making faces at her as she was clearly not in a burping mood, whenever I stuck my tongue out at her she did a lovely little smile. I don't think it was wind, she was staring right at me and did it when I made the face at her. Made me heart melt! I have the HV coming round next week who I think will ask more about things like that though.

Was all set to go for a lie down now if babies are sleeping but remembered I have a man coming to fix our exercise bike between 12 and 3pm so can't really relax.

Still, at least both babies are bathed and fed so I can hopefully lie on sofa and watch the end of Phil n Fern.

text from janet at 9am - going into hospital. big calming labour vibes all

bean - not at all - your actual comment was one about it being tough, as far as i remmeber. soz if my comment insensitive, it was born of respect and awe. i have now made almost 48hrs almost exclusively (DH done 2 formula feeds)and want a blue peter badge ... a gold one at taht

Egg · 13/03/2008 12:36

Presume janet is Jay????? Ooooh so she might be pushing a baby out right now? Lots of calming vibes coming her way from me .

Is it wrong to eat double portions of everything? Like those packs of fresh filled pasta that you then add sauce to, which are meant to serve 2, is it wrong to always eat the whole pack myself?

Still no burp from either baby but both are sound asleep. Am sure I will get DS2 writhing in agony later as he tries to fart it out .

rozzyraspberry · 13/03/2008 13:39

Fantastic tyaca - well done

gingermumi · 13/03/2008 16:08

afternoon ladies, am typing one handed so will be even worse than usual!

Gill- you seem awfully flat, are you ok hun?

sarah and egg - babies sleeping that long!!!!!

Egg- can't remember if your babes were early but if they were don't forget to correct development by number of weeks early- so if baby 3 weeks early expect them to smile 3 weeks later than the average 6 weeks. I wasnt sure about ds' smiles at first but now he does lovely ones!

Bean- am with, egg don't think you would have offended anyone so don't fret.

I think we should all get blue peter badges for being fab mums, doing the best we can!!!

Egg · 13/03/2008 16:20

I missed the end of your post Gill, hope it is just a quick passing virus as you need to eat! esp if you are breastfeeding or you will get so run down and exhausted. What's your HV or doc like? Worth talking to? I keep getting mouth ulcers and sore throats as I am not eating much veg or fruit. Easy to eat cakes and stuff but I struggle with the healthy things. Doesn't help when we are all tired anyway.

Ginger I know I keep forgetting that. They were 3 weeks early so are in fact 6 weeks old on Saturday and not NINE WEEKS OLD TODAY!

Got to get ready to go out in rain to collect DS1. Do not like the fact it takes forever to get DTs ready...

omy · 13/03/2008 18:19

Hello all - just back from osteo recommended by princess. He was lovely - hope it helps!

I think LO does have mild reflux (I hope it's mild). She has all the signs. Bugger!

Tried expressing today and gave LO the bottle instead of boob - she much preferred it and had less wind problems.

She is screaming now, so better go and relieve DH....

violeta · 13/03/2008 19:13

Hi all,
Thanks for all of the support on the breastfeeding. Sophie got weighed again this morning and she still hasn't gained any weight . Thankfully, the m/w I saw today was understanding, gave me lots of support and told me that I was doing all of the right things and that as Sophie looks bright, alert, happy and produces lots of dirty/wet nappies there's no reason for concern as yet. So, onto another evening of cluster feeding and then another weigh-in tomorrow afternoon...

tyaca: the nipple shields were a lifesaver for me as I really wanted to continue with breastfeeding but I just couldn't go without as my nipples were in a really bad state. I used them for 4 days in the end, and although Sophie must have hated the plastic floating up around her face when she ate (and sterilising them was a real pain in the arse) they meant I could get the b/f back on track again. Incidentally, some people say that babies often refuse to feed directly from the breast again when you remove the shields but I didn't have that experience. One possible problem they may have caused though was a drop in my supply, so I would recommend expressing like mad between feeds (get an electric pump if you don't have one?). But, I have read here of many people using shields for months of b/feeding without any problems so I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. Good luck!

Egg · 13/03/2008 19:44

Hi violeta, glad you had a nice mw today it makes all the difference if you are getting support. Sophie will fatten up soon. My DD even has cheeks now! It is strange though to think she is 9 weeks old and still weighs less than many of your little ones did when they were born.

Good news, all THREE CHILDREN ASLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All fed, all bathed, all asleep. Impressed?

OK, babies are asleep down here, but that's just cos they are not used to going to bed at this time yet and I worry that if they are crying when DS1 is trying to go to sleep they will keep him awake.

Have worked out that feeding them at 6:30ish works well with DS1's routine. Means I can bath him at 6pm and then he can watch tv while I feed them til 7. Then I go upstairs with him and do stories etc before putting him to bed. So that means I do need to do their first feed of the day by 7:30am latest if I want to get all the feeds in, but preferably by 7am. Not sure I can be that disciplined .

Anyway, I am excited as I have a mumsnetter coming round with her DD tomorrow! My friend marmitemad who I chat with on the Zappata thread. Am really looking forward to it. We have only met once before! We are also all meeting up (there are five of us regulars on there) in Brighton in May. Three of us met in Brighton last year and it was lovely to put faces to names.

Which means we MUST sort out a meet up for those down South in a month or two. I would love to see anyone that is within a reasonably doable distance from me.

Right, am signing off for the night. I hope everyone has a good night. Get those nipple shields sterilised (I hated sterilising the pump with a passion).

And to Jay and Princess - GOOD LUCK!

OP posts:
tyaca · 13/03/2008 21:56

oh yes, yes, lets have a Down South meet up. egg - i had some good news today that means we're prob doing a you and moving from sw london to surrey.

no news from jay. or princess - you due for hospital tomo? assuming things havent started already?

gill - you can have a bit of my appetite! how would 50% do you? hope u feeling better soon.

violeta ty for sheilds advice. going to bite bullet and make tomo D-Day. started using them tues - so hoping stopping at three days will be ok. when i first used them bf really hurt, but getting a bit better, so hoping same will be true of bf au naturel. got an eletric pump, i have to cover myself with a blanket so i dontsee the orrible sucking ;-)

night all. hopefully more babies in morning.

ayrshirelolo · 13/03/2008 22:06

hiya girls! how's everyone? well, sorry for not being on for a couple of days, have just scanned everybody's posts, good luck jay and princess.... the race is still on?? Well Omy, after all my boasting about getting on with the dirty deed turns out all dh wanted to do was cuddle and sleep.... ! after a chat it seems we're both pretty much terrified of getting up the duff again (we always were shite with condoms!!) so will probably leave it a week till pills kick in!
Anyway, sounds like everyone having mixed days bit like us, yesterday was good, h/v turned up to weigh Alex, she's now 9lb 14oz, so has put on 14 oz in a week, what a grubber! (religiously giving infacol before each feed, only had one sicky in the last week, although that was predictably at 2.30am, all over me and her... lovely!! got back into bed and dh mumbled that my hair smelt funny.... how romantic! no wonder he wasn't up for it yet!!) She slept last night between 10pm and 5am straight, and then after a feed back till 9am.... although i spent most of the night waking up every half hour wondering if she was ok! the joys of motherhood ! been a bit of a horror today, though! not sure why but just gurny, imagine she's just having an off day?
Anyway, hope you are all ok, have finally uploaded some photos of my girls onto my profile, hope it worked!! love to all, thinking about you J and P... lolo xx ps Tyaca, feme gel pads you buy in boots and put in the fridge / freezer with gauze covers are comletely amazing.... well worth the cash!! i do have some but not sure it's the sort of thing you'd want second hand, as it were!

Jaysthird · 14/03/2008 03:51

doubt anyone is up, but had to tell you, Baby Cooper came into the world at 10.56 last night, after a very quick second stage, weighing in at 11lbs 3ozs.

mum and baby home by 3, will post details soooon!!

Egg · 14/03/2008 07:02

OOooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I saw your post whilst feeding DD and wanted to run downstairs to computer so I could be the first to congratulate you. DS2 has been awake half the night so am already up and about (DS1 also woke at 6:15am). Anyway massive congrats to you on the safe and speedy arrival of Cooper (such a very handsome name!). He weighs EXACTLY the same as DS2 does at 9 weeks old . Well done you for making it sound so easy after all that waiting. I hope it gives some comfort to princess that it can be nice and quick.

Got to sort out crying boys (girl still asleep).

AND GOOD LUCK PRINCESS, we have not forgotten you. And you get to name the new thread (unless you went into labour last night and managed to get a baby out before Jay did!).

Congratulations Jay!!!
So pleased for you and Cooper is a lovely name!

Sorry for all the exclamation marks, DD2 slept for 5 hours in a row last night for the first time (it probably won't happen again!) so I'm feeling almost well rested today. I did end up with lumpy boobs and the breastpump out at 5am though
Eek, DD2 is waking up!

LOVEMYMUM · 14/03/2008 08:47

Hi Jay - congratulations and ouch! Did the birth hurt? Cooper is a BIG baby!
