Wonder how many posts we will get before we can start the post natal one.

Come on girls, keep getting jiggy and eating those curries.

Tyaca - sorry you're finding things a bit tough. For the fanjo my midwife for ds1 advised me to put a few drops of tea tree oil in a bath which keeps it clean and therefore helps it heal. For the engorged breasts having a bath or shower and expressing some off should help. Also, savoy cabbage leaves in the bra are pretty good. Not what you want to hear probably but making sure lo feeds regularly will also help. I hope it gets better for you soon. I know you weren't very sure about trying to bf but you are doing so well giving it a go and remember that every feed you do is beneficial. As far as coping when your dh goes back to work goes you will manage. All you have to do is make sure you and the lo are fed. If you can't get a shower, clean the house etc who cares? Maybe make up some sandwiches for yourself the night before just so you're organised (because you have to eat!!). The night before my dh went back to work this time I laid out clothes for myself and the 2 older kids and even put their cereal into bowls. In actual fact it probably only saved me a couple of minutes but I felt better knowing I was organised. We all worry about how we're going to cope with things but IME it's never as bad as you think it's going to be. You have to remember you gave birth less than a week ago - you have to give yourself time. Once you feel a bit better physically and more like yourself everything will seem much more manageable. Take Care xx

Good and bad night here last night. Good in that lo was only up once between 9.30 and 6.30. Bad in that when he was up he brought quite a bit of milk up after his feed and then took a while to settle. It's the first time he's been difficult to settle in the night and was my own fault really. The midwife had advised us to use the full dosage of infacol in the early days when he was windy. Since he's been so much better recently I decided in my wisdom to cut the dosage down. Needless to say he's back up to full dose again.

Good luck with pending inductions princess and jaysthird.

beansprout · 12/03/2008 13:00

Egg - how did you get on?

Tyaca - sorry it's rough atm, it will get better, promise. I also found it a bit better once dh went back, as I had to find my way of doing things. Has helped my self confidence to see that I can manage. Hard when you are in such physical discomfort though as that will make just about anything harder.

Sarah - way to go on the sleep!!!

Jay and PL - hope you are both ok.

Am shattered today but the cavalry (in the form of SIL and neice) is on its way so should get a break after lunch. Hurrah!!

Keep telling myself I just have 19 weeks of exclusive b/feeding to go but no matter how I look at it, that's a blardy long time!! Roll on ds2 sleeping through... if that could just happen it would all be a lot easier. When can we reasonably expect that to start then?

mitfordsisters · 12/03/2008 13:28

hello all

don't blame you princess for tears - i was so ghastly by 42 weeks, I couldn't speak to anyone except dh, and i mainly just snarled or sobbed at him.

tyaca - esther is beautiful - are you able to feed regularly after her massive feed?

my dh goes back to work tomorrow, and my mother in law is still here - been a week now. she is lovely and good natured like mrs tiggywinkle - however, it's clear she only really cares about my hubby and hector, and not so much of a monkeys about me, which is depressing. and she thinks my baby wipes are wrong and i should have cotton baby cardis and not wool etc etc. i'm having trouble remaining civil. grrr

hector's doing really well - although i keep getting caught out by him weeing at nappy change time - hugequantities of laundry.

Jaysthird · 12/03/2008 14:25

princess, this will be my second induction, DS was au natural, it was DD whose waters broke but i never dilated...so this will be my second one also.
As for the tears and sobbing, i just cant stop. Anybody who says anything nice to me, the flood gates open. I know i should be being nice to DH also, but it seems he irritates the hell out of me with anything he does!
My feet have decided to swell 10 fold also, they were a bit puffy before but the past cpl of day seemed to have expanded, so i ask DH to rub them....his half hearted attempts make me wish i hadn't!

So did you find out Princess, when you are going to be induced?

Sorry to go on ladies and not to have replied to you all, hope things are ok, will be back in the land of the 'ive just had a baby' soon !

princessllama · 12/03/2008 14:41

yes, still pg here too. feel like have gone into reverse (although dr assured me not), apparently my cervix and the baby were in the wrong position today to do a sweep-it had it's head behind the cervix-have no idea how. anyway going back on friday for another sweep since the heart rate, blood flow etc all fine. wonder if they ever take mother's sanity into account. i really want to do this myself. i certainly won't be doing it ever again. at least we got through budget day.
jay are you considering the castor oil? there's such a diff in opinion on it am not sure. at least 1 mw and nct teacher recommended it although were v cautious.

violeta · 12/03/2008 14:47

Lovely to see all of the baby photos!

Lucyand2: Sophie has an umbilical granuloma as well - it's got all of that yellow gunk around it and it's weeping a little as well. We'll be taking her to the GP for the silver nitrate treatment next week - good to know that your little one didn't cry and that it doesn't seem to hurt...

I've finally got into breastfeeding now from a hell of a rocky start. Bleeding nipples, Sophie vomiting up my blood, nipple shields for 4 days (horrible things) and now finally I think both of us have learned how to do it. Though it's still sore after feeding and I'll never get used to the letdown pain when she latches on. Trouble is though that all of the feeding problems have meant that Sophie is still to put on any weight (seems that the nipple shields may have affected my supply?) and we've been given till tomorrow at the next midwife check for her to put on some weight otherwise I'll be told to supplement (she's now 2 weeks old). I've been told this has to be formula rather than my expressed milk? May seek some advice about this on the b/f thread.

Oh, and Sophie is also becoming a bit of an Infacol addict! It does seem to help though -evenings were a bit difficult till we started using it.

violeta · 12/03/2008 14:48

Jay, princessllama -really feel for you both. Hope things get happening soon...

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 12/03/2008 14:51

Jays and princess- i am totally feeling for you- four days over was bad enough-!!!

Princess re castor oil- i took it in the afternoon(bout 1pm) of 6th feb- tablespoon full then another a few hourslater(bout 4) - nothing happened, no ill effects, however i did give birth at 3-30am on the 7th- i think it was coincidence but who knows- thats just my exp of taking it but i understand about the mixed feeling i did alot of wondereing about it myself!!!!

Everyone says it tastes horrid- it tastes of nothing- smells like oil and is slimy but not nasty!!! if that helps at all

Jaysthird · 12/03/2008 15:02

d'ya know.....i was talking about that to DH - he said....have you got any...i said no...he said... ive got CASTROL GTX if you want it.......i think he was being 'funny'!!

Don't know if i can be bothered to go and buy some and take it...it IS the only thing i havn't had. This is what i have tried

SEX
CLARY SAGE BATHS AND MASSAGES
BIRTHING BALL
WALKING
ACUPUNCTURE
ACUPRESSURE
REFLEXOLOGY (ONLY ONE SESSION THO)
HOT HOT CURRIES
MANY MANY PINEAPPLES
and..
THREE SWEEPS

I somehow think castor oil just wont help....although the more i think of it.....maybe just maybe.....

Egg · 12/03/2008 15:13

Hello so sorry you are STILL waiting girls, but we are all behind you and just think of the celebrations you will get from us when your little ones come. All the ladies in the middle of the month got far less than those at the beginning of it all and you three who lasted the longest. Please keep us posted.

Our check up went well. Another umbilical granuloma here for DD. She no longer has an umbilical hernia though, and has had the silver nitrate now. DS does have a small hernia, we think from pushing his poo out .

Ginger when I mentioned the juddering the doc said it could be one of two things but was hopefully nothing. One was the epilepsy and the other was something to do with having too much or too little body tone. Anyhow, having observed him he said he was not worried at all as no other signs of anything wrong and esp as my DS1 did it too and is fine. DD even had a quick go while we were there so is obviously just an Egg family trait .

Anyway, they passed all their checks [phew] and confirmed my own thoughts that i do indeed have a fatty and a ratty. DD is a mere 8lbs 4 and DS is a hulking 11lbs 3. So since they were born he has gained 6lbs and she gained 3.5lbs . No worries though, she is on 9th centile but she was last time she was weighed too, and he is now on 75th........

Both puked on themselves whilst there. Thankfully I took a change of clothes for each of them.

Hoping everyone is feeling ok today and the good days outweigh the bad ones. Oh and I tend to put my coffee granules in a mug the night before, fill the kettle with just enough water for my cup (so it boils quicker), put DS1's weetabix in his bowl the night before etc etc. It all helps the following morning! I always get DS1's bag ready for nursery the night before, and get the pushchair set up with the right seats for one baby and one toddler etc. As rozzy says it doesn't really save more than few mins but it helps you to feel on top of things!

Sarah thanks for your kind words! I am honestly so disorganised but the more things I have to do the better I am at organising myself. I had managed to feed both babies, give DS1 his milk and weetabix (I have to load each spoon for him, he is crap at feeding himself weetabix otherwise), had a bath, and even WASHED MY HAIR by 8am today, and I only got up at 6:50am. I felt quite proud. Oh and changed all three nappies as well [smug emoticon]. On the days when I don't get myself sorted I tend to feel worse.

I really didn't want to get the babies up this morning to feed them at 7am (normally leave them asleep until they shout for food) but because I had to get them fed again before going to docs I had to, but it did make things easier knowing they were fed and I could then get on with everything else. If I want to get them in a routine I need to do it every day and I know it will help in the long run but lying there this morning it was bloody hard forcing myself out of bed. Might try it again tomorrow though . It means they will feed at a better time this evening and not when I am trying to get DS1 into bed.

Sorry, very long and DULL post.....

Egg · 12/03/2008 15:17

Jay, just saw your last post. I feel for you. I really do. I was two days early with DS1 and was getting fed up, and I had only tried curry and raspberry leaf tea / tablets.

I guess that's a good thing about twins though, you are pretty unlikely to be overdue.

Forgot to say, DD took her jabs like a man. DS2 cried like a girl. They both went straight to sleep afterwards though, and were woken for a feed at 2pm and went straight back to sleep. I think I will have a crappy late afternoon / evening as they are doing waaaaay too much sleeping today.

Egg · 12/03/2008 15:45

Back again.

Violeta have posted on your other thread about bf. Good luck tomorrow.

So does infacol help with puking [thick emoticon]??? I stopped using it for DS2 but maybe that is why he is projectiling fairly regularly.

Bloody hell, it is 3:45! DS1 still in bed. Babies still in bed. And I could have had a nice sleep and I have squandered all my time on MN .

Ah well. I do love it here .

widgetsmummy · 12/03/2008 16:18

hey all, have only scanned this page of messages, nice to hear all the good and bad bits for the hatched ladies... hope those still to go get going one way or another soon!

we have been surviving, although have moved to bottle feeding because breastfeeding was a nightmare. LO was always screaming hungry, was cup feeding and I was crying everyday about it. now we are both 100 times happier and I am getting to enjoy her and have cuddles that don't involve screaming only prob is constipation now, am trying different formula Aptamil (sp?)and midwife suggested an ounce of water every now and again to help... get conflicting advice on the water thing but we'll see if it helps.

DH went back to work on Mon and actually its alright. only issue now is my dough-like tummy that spills out of my trousers and makes me feel like a large jelly monster... trouble is do I hate it enough to not eat cake and all the chocolate thats still in the house from pregnancy don't care days!

oops - LO stirring... will try and keep up more now life is settling down a little.

take care all x

widgetsmummy · 12/03/2008 16:26

PS - new pic on profile!

beansprout · 12/03/2008 16:36

WM - wow, she's gorgeous!!

Egg - glad everything is ok. LOL at a fatty and a ratty!!

Infacol has helped with the puking a bit here but I also now regularly take ds2 off and wind him mid-feed. My let down is too fast for him so he gulps and eventually it all comes back up. Bah. Mid feed winding helps though.

SIL has taken the boys to the park for an hour - I am supposed to be sleeping but that seems like a waste of my new found freedom - way hay!!!

rozzyraspberry · 12/03/2008 16:45

violeta - I know someone whose lo didn't get back to their birth weight until she was 4 weeks old - she's 9 weeks now and very big and thriving. I would resist topping up with formula if bf is going well now. My lo was at his birth weight at 2 weeks so hadn't put on any weight but my hv was happy with this.

Egg -you lo's sound like good weights for early twins! It's nice that it's your dd who's the dainty one.

alkar · 12/03/2008 17:07

Just had a look at all the new baby pics - we have some very cute babies here!

Tyaca sorry to hear you're having a rough time I thought it hurt having a section, things will get better though

Mitfordsisters we get the weeing during a nappy change too I just get on with it but if it happens when DH changes him the whole street can hear the commotion!

Widget I know what you mean about giving up the chocolate and cakes I just can't seem to do it. Got DS weighed today and hes now 11lb 11 (6weeks tomorrow) so I figure he's enjoying the sweet stuff or at least thats my excuse.

Good luck with the inductions Princess and Jaysthird

beansprout · 12/03/2008 18:51

Violeta - I am not an expert on b/feeding but some MNers are (tiktok, hunker). I do know that some HVs and MWs are very quick to suggest supplementing and also that b/fed babies gain weight at a different rate to formula fed babies.

Maybe get a second opinion? how are the nappies? If nappies are wet/full of poo that's a pretty good indication that enough milk is going in.

I will have a look for your other thread too.

leesmum · 12/03/2008 19:08

Just a quickie.

GOOD LUCK Jay for tomorrow will anybody be letting us know how you get on?

And Princess looks like you are the last woman standing(unless DH has other plans tonight)

widgetsmummy · 12/03/2008 19:28

Violeta - agree with the others, if b/feeding going well then ask about waiting it out a bit. Bethan lost 10% of her birth weight and needed more than I could give but recovering from supplementing is not easy... can mess with your supply. Am convinved is part of the reason we have ended up bottle feeding.

princessllama · 12/03/2008 19:30

good point leesmum, jay who is letting us know? obviously your most vital point to consider this evening. i'd be more than happy to-at least would give me something to do!

princessllama · 12/03/2008 19:31

yes sadly, does look like i will be last man standing. will have another attempt at the curry and maybe more sex-sigh...

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 12/03/2008 19:41

very strong labour vibes to both of you!!!!

Have added new pics to profile if anyone is interested!!!!

gingermumi · 12/03/2008 19:51

Sorry tings not so good tyaca- it will get better and i definitely recommend natracare pads, you can get them on net and mothercare sells them too.

Princess - thanks for info - EEG app came today, app is on 26th, so not long to wait.

Hi there mitford, thought we hadnt heard from you in a while! Keep getting caught by wee too! We think they'll grow out of it but truth is the male aim is never good!

Egg- glad things ok for your ds, d.oes sound like it could be a family thing.

Good luck jay , princess, hope things happen soon hun!

Bargain alert- Sainsburys have nappies a third off and saw dentinox on shelf there (i think someone was asking about it).

Had a bad night last night too - ds let out this huge scream, dh thought he'd hurt himself (not sure what he could have done in the moses basket!) i picked him up and he let out the biggest fart you've ever heard (Ds, not dh!)! Then he went back to sleep! He woke extra for feeds, think he'sputting on a spirt again!

MIL has bought us a cot from john Lewis, delivered to day, now we have to dismantle half the furniture in our bedroom to fit in. She was offended 'cos we didnt want a cot bed, if we'd had one we couldn't have opened the door! Unfortunately she equates size/money with love. It would be better if she was more interested in us rather than worrying about what she can spend. Am not ungrateful but she does keep her distance and it upsets dh (she didn't even visit when he was ill last year - they ony live about 8 miles away). Still, it's probably better than interfering i guess.

Anyway, hope there's some babies tomorrow.

mitfordsisters · 12/03/2008 20:12

egg, they say if you want something done, ask a busy person! and I love those 'dull' posts - i'm always weighing up whether the lie in is worth it, or whether routine should always prevail.

today's been a bit of a lazy day as the weather has been rubbish so stayed in. put hector in the hug a bub sling and wandered around with a boob hanging out so he could have a bit when he wanted; what a gypsy! so I'm yoyoing between routine and demand feeding.

widget - you're not the only one with a postnatal tum. i had 5 choc digestives today and 2 slices coffee and walnut cake.
