Hiya guys!! congratulations to Princess, does that mean we're all done now? anyway, congrtulations to all of us, for sucessfully cooking and delivering a whole monthfull of beautiful children........ well done us!!!!
don't know where to start with everyone having a bit of a nightmare, apart from saying to everyone who's a bit overwhelmed, "do the small stuff" .... sounds crap, but basically bugger the hoovering, spend the time painting your toenails!! sounds mad, but works, honest. If you and offsping are still functioning by friday you should have a medal, and do whatever gets you through. Dhs/dps have to just understand how tough if is, and if they don't then tell them! but remember that living together / marriage is a contract for a lifetime, so the odd six weeks of hell is perfectly ok and doesn't mean you're doomed, just tired and stressed. And if you can't breast feed, then don't !! as long as wee one is fed, clean and occasionally cuddled then that will do the job right now, and for those of you with bigger kids, thank f**k for C beebies!! woke up at 3 this morning with the tune to Balamorie in my head.... help!!!! taken me all day to swap it for the "big cook little cook song" about washing pots in case they smell!! help! i'm in theory a responsible professional person! now i can't get past mister maker or pinky dinky doo!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! anyway, love to all, keep going, you're all doing fine!! love, lolo xx

tyaca · 19/03/2008 00:07

lol lolo, your posts always make me smile.

re HVs - mine's convinced i have a drink problem after i made a gag about having got my first decent night's sleep after having a tot of whiskey before going to bed. actually, it was only a half gag as in it was true. but gawwd. she came back to it twice - inc'ing asking dh how much he thought i was drinking. cheeek! and as if he knows..... i've been vigilant about topping up the bottles with water [hiccuping emotcion]

leesmum · 19/03/2008 08:08

Hi everyone and a big Well Done to Princess, i can't wait to hear how it all went

I suppose we'll were lingering on here for a bit until Princess is up to starting a new Post natal one,

Well Ds2 has his first jabs this morning,i know it's not nice but its something that in the long run will stop any nasty diseases

Tyaca remember that HV are only there to guide and advise you and that ultimately YOU make the decisions about your daughter, i think some HV think everything they say is the law!!!

Lolo i F&#*ing hate that Mister Maker everything he does is crap. We are loving Pop Shop in our house at the moment only because Ds1 likes to get his guitar out at every opportunity.

Omy my lo had horrid wind as well, i thought BF babies didn't get windeven though BF is going ok for now don't you all agree that when your pregnant midwives and doc paint a very rosy picture of BF and i would have liked to have been told about all possible things that can go wrong so i wouldn't have felt like the only one with the v.sore nips and the like.

Princess lots of love to you and your family xxxi can't believe we're all done and how lucky we all are to have got through it in one piece with our beautiful healthy babies.

beansprout · 19/03/2008 08:21

Count - lol at your HV. I had a similar exchange when ds2 was about 2 weeks old asking if he had any disabilities (no), so how do these disabilities affect his quality of life (they don't), etc etc

Lolo - I have about an hour in the morning when I know ds2 will sleep and I tend to look like Mr Maker at the doodle drawers, running around trying to get everything done!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 19/03/2008 09:41

hi ladies- we had a play date on monday and my friend has just called to let me know her ds- aged 3 has chickenpox- which is not a problem for harry aged 3 but do any of you know if rosie is at any risk from it? she is six weeks so not had any jabs etc- i know i can't control it anyway just really dont want her to have it so young!!!!!!i am sure it cant do any harm tho

omy · 19/03/2008 10:31

Morning all - sarah - I seem to remember I DD2 caught chicken pox from DD1 when she was tiny - only got it very mildly and was fine.

So I have the joys of ceebeebees ahead of me! Will def get a TV by then! At the moment we have got rid of it as older kids got sucked into it too often and I got fed up with policing it. Sats and GCSEs are very soon for both of them so no TV till after exams! - don't worry we're not puritans - we watch lots of DVDs on the computer!

Leesmum - I was surprised by the colic too - my previous babes never had it. But she seems to be better as of 3 days ago - touch wood! I think it is the cranial osteo - as I am crap at remembering to dose her up with gripe water/infacol etc and have basically given up those.

Lolo and Ty - you do make me laugh - I wish could write such witty posts! I know I am dull as ditch water.

Re health visitors - there is one at my health clinic who tells everyone BFding to take their babie's clothes off when they stop sucking during a BF. This will make the poor mite suck some more as they are freezing!! I think the woman is barking mad! She also told me that my feeds were far too short and MADE me feed my babe there and then for 20 mins...steering clear of her then...

Have now finished all the cut price easter eggs i bought yesterday and will have to buy more....no will power over here - hence the TV situation!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 19/03/2008 11:02

thanks omy- i am waiting for dodgy HV to call back - though don't really know why i called her she is so scatty!!!!!

tyaca · 19/03/2008 12:24

morning all. i feel so tired today, but i think i've had a mini revelation: i need to spend more time feeding lo. books etc always say your baby should drink x amount (if formula) or nurse for x minutes and those figures always seem so big for me as lo just is going to fall asleep or lose interest. think if i just slow down and resign myself to a good three quarters of an hour of SLOW feeding then she'll start to get the amounts she needs. at the moment, she loses interst on boob v quick - and bottle i feel like i'm stuffing her up to send her to the market after 20ml or so. i think i've got to stop expecting her to take everything she needs in one foul gulp. does this sound right to the more experienced mums?

been ringing health clubs in the area about getting month long memberships. so darn expensive. but need a kick start. feel so low about the way i look (bathe in the dark!) and going to need much more energy than this .... babies v tiring. is it six weeks for starting exercise after birth? that sounds about right, but wouldnt mind starting sooner. what do you think? dh on holiday from this thursday and so could go almost every day -- which would make the expense worth it. if i leave it another month, i'll pay £100 or so and not be able to use it for that kick start.

tyaca · 19/03/2008 12:28

wow, no tv omy. i keep threatening DH with that... lol .... the TV is always on here and he'll start to explain exactly WHY tv makes you cleverer with the smallest bit of encouragement ... i've become a big fan of channel 4 on demand for late night BF//expressing sessions.

rozzyraspberry · 19/03/2008 13:58

My god - some of your health visitors sound horrendous!! Luckily the 2 I've had have been lovely.

Tyaca - I'm sure it's about 6 weeks for gentle exercise like swimming but possibly longer for more strenuous stuff? I've been doing a lot of walking with lo in the sling and pushing buggy with ds2 which I think is quite good exercise. As far as longer feeds go I always do a nappy change mid feed which wakes lo up to get more milk into him - avoids him waking up after an hour wanting fed again. I also change sides then too.

Sarah - I'm pretty sure lo will have immunity from you still so wouldn't get chicken pox - no expert though so could be wrong.

Leesmum - A few people have said to me they thought bf babies didn't get windy when I've said ds3 is on infacol - clearly they do!!! Maybe it's something I'm eating which is causing it - the copious amounts of chocolate perhaps?

rozzyraspberry · 19/03/2008 14:01

Oh and Slacker - hope all your lo's are ok! I know what you mean about missing out on the newborn stage - time is just flying so quickly this time round. It's probably worse for dh as he's taking care of the older 2 a lot whilst I feed the baby. I think you must have earned enough brownie points with your dh to have some quality time with your lo when he gets home

jooseyfruit · 19/03/2008 15:51

tyaca really empathise with your bathing in the dark comment!!!
i've ordered one of these maternity corsets. they are v. unsexy, but my friend swears hers is working. take care everyone x

lljkk · 19/03/2008 18:05

Sarahmike-- Dd had chickenpox at 15 weeks and it was a complete non-event (very mild). Just watch out for fever if your baby does get it.

Ds is a poo-machine. We have gone from sticky eye to zit-city (still there), with oodles of nappies inbetween. I feel short-changed because he's just producing poo for the world and not getting fat instead -- at least I get to eat like a pig for feeding him all the time. I would post more but he's fussing for nappy change.

lljkk · 19/03/2008 18:06

Oh, and tyaca (ds1 now minding ds4 for me) -- I drink a big glass of Bailey's spiked with extra brandy every night!

beansprout · 19/03/2008 18:08

Slacker - how are your lo's today?

Tyaca - I dug out my post-natal exercise vid and what you are allowed to do at 6 weeks is really rather delicate, so I suspect gym membership should wait a while yet. That said, I have been walking around with ds2 strapped to me for ages and that's not easy, so don't take my advice!!

I went on a meet up today with some of the January mums who are in London town, what a lovely bunch!! Still haven't met any of you lot though.... so who's up for a meet up?!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 19/03/2008 18:11

thanks for all comments re chickenpox- will wait and see if it happens- if i am honest i am worried about DC's being scabby for DD's christening which is in 5weeks time!!!eeek!! i just know its gonna happen!!!!!

where the hell has today gone- DH just got in and i cant belive its already dinner time!!!!

Hope you are all ok- Must go DD is in her swing in other room with DS nearby!!oh dear

beansprout · 19/03/2008 18:14

Highly unlikely to have scabs in 5w, don't worry!!!

alkar · 19/03/2008 18:22

Eating lots of chocolate here too and also have a windy baby - maybe there is a link rozzy!

Better day today, took DS for his 6 week check had to wait for over an hour before he got weighed and he was so cute, he kept smiling at laughing at me, just lovely. And he now weighs 12lb 6 he seems to keep putting on 11 ounces a week?!?

Understand your bathing in the dark comment tyaca! I have my 6 week check at GP tomorrow so its exercise time soon, I'll let you know what she says.

mitfordsisters · 19/03/2008 18:56

I've been considering control underwear as well joosey - but those corsets scare me. Do you think they would actually help get your tummy muscles back?

beansprout - I'm up for a meetup in London - where are you? I'm in SE1 London Bridge.

re the mothers ruin - i know the chaps who run our local off licence bu name. I say to myself that I'm 'learning about wine' and therefore very cultured - in fact, just returning to my lush old ways

Jo9977 · 19/03/2008 19:12

Oh slacker and alkar - how rotten! You guys hang in there...thinking of you!

And I second you lolo, why do we beat ourselves up trying to do everything when just getting through the week is a major achievement?

Hope you're feeling better tyaca! xx

tyaca · 19/03/2008 20:07

mitfords - i know what you mean about lush old ways... dh basically gave up booze too while i was pg and we had so many chats about how we wouldnt go back to our old every day drinking ways. that's quickly gone out the window. my real missiom, though, is not to start smoking again once i stop bf

london meet-up -- def. how does that work now we all have lo's?? is it a bring-a-baby affair? the idea of leaving flat with baby to take on the town sounds terrifying tbh.

and bean... ty for permish to avoid gym, will concentrate on eating ok and trying to get out more for walks. saying that, today, i left dd with dh and went to a cafe for a peaceful hour. cafe is ten min away and tbh, the round trip nearly killed me. pain was all in the fanjo - to quote someone from else on this thread (sry, cant remember who) i felt like my insides were going to fall out thru it. ok - i promise to stop talking about my bits

and how are people getting on with their slings? i've yet to use my close. yesterday i ordered a hotsling pouch to use in house as the close looks quite complicated for everyday use.

alkar · 19/03/2008 20:23

My mums just been round to have another go at me whilst i'm bf daniel. Apparently she feels betrayed that i didn't tell her i'd been in touch with her partners daughters. Completely overreacting. Heard her telling dh about it and if said i have to take my wifes side, yay to dh! Then she left without even saying goodbye. On the plus side, had lots of smiles and mini laughs from ds
