Hello ladies, the last thread appeared to run out, I hope you all don't mind me being so bold as to start a new one?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
accessorizequeen · 10/03/2008 11:03

Spink, I really hope you're not right, best of luck with it all & hugs!
Welcome, rach
They do things differently here, I told gp, then the hospital arranges appts & I get a letter. I don't see why you can't have a dating scan b4 the booking in, nothing to do with each other really & m/w don't organise, the hospital does. It's up to them to get women in for the correct week!

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 10/03/2008 11:15

spink just read your post i posted in a rush sorry, i really hope things work out ok for you x

bethoo · 10/03/2008 11:59

just got a phone call from mw and thankfully i am seeing her this wednesday at 945, so i do not know how she managed that considering she was fully booked til april! but hey ho at least it will be all go as of wednesday!!
shame it is during working hours as do not want work to find out unitl everything is properly confirmed, but hey beggars cant be choosers hey?

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/03/2008 12:05

spink - glad you managed to get an appointment. Everyone is thinking of you [hugs]
Hi and welcome Rach. I think everyone has the thought at the back of their mind as to whether things are ok but like others have said, best thing is to stay positive.
Bethoo, hope I don't have the same experience as you (in the nicest possible way!). I'm 8 weeks this week and was told by receptionist that I need to wait until this week before I make appointment with GP. Hope I then don't have to wait ages for things to kick in. Not had scans up here before so hoping it's all straight forward. Hope you manage to sort something - be forecful!

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/03/2008 12:06

Bethoo - that's great news. Well done you. Can't you tell a white lie to work and say you've got a dr appointment? Or even an appointment at the doctors - not a lie at all then?

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2008 12:14

Spink I'm very sorry . Hope the hospital were kind.

Does everyone want to give an idea of where in the country they are, so that we can compare regions for healthcare?

I'm in North Herts and saw doctor at 4.5 weeks, could have seen midwife at 5 weeks but I was busy so saw her at 7. Saw m/w again at 9 weeks, had bloods taken at 9.5 weeks, and have scan booked for 11+2 (only 7 days to go ). Will see m/w again at 13 weeks. Can't fault them really.

Welcome Rach, and best of luck with your scan tomorrow.

Good luck with the move sparkles. Are you just moving locally?

bethoo · 10/03/2008 12:26

i am in Wiltshire. they were ok last time though the hospital dropped my blood vial so had to have bloods re done then mw could not find my original HIV results so had to go on system to print it all off again. but the actual mw was great.

accessorizequeen · 10/03/2008 12:38

I'm in East Yorks. Last time I had booking in at 10 weeks, scan at 12 (I think) and then next m/w appt at 18/20 weeks, every month until later on when every 2 weeks/weekly. I chose when to visit gp (last week) and as it was quite lateish I guess I won't get appts until a bit later. I'm not desperate to get in there as I'm in denial about the whole thing anyway
I think the big gap between booking-in and 2nd appt is a lot for a first time mum, but quite frankly there's not much they do at m/w appts anyway other than bloods, checking urine etc. It's only when you have a problem that you need more attention and hopefully will get it. I found ringing my local m/w centre was fine, very reassuring if I needed it. And Mnet of course!

daisyj · 10/03/2008 13:54

Hi everyone. Back from a couple of days away with work and a weekend where all I could do was sleep and eat. I couldn't even summon the energy to go out for DH's b'day. How bad is that . It's taken me two goes to catch up, though; there's pages since I last looked!

Spink, so sorry , fingers crossed for you. Hope all is OK.

CSWS, I'm in south east London. Saw my new doctor on Thursday, and he is going to get me booked in for a nuchal scan at 12 weeks, so should have a date soon. I'm seeing the midwife on Friday (I'll be 10+4) for the first time (so still haven't had bloods done), and all horrors of my previous mad old doctor who traumatised me the other week are now fading, thankfully (but first saw him at 6 weeks).

I have a question. A while ago a few of you were talking about dying your hair. I was under the impression that you weren't supposed to when PG - is that wrong? My hair has reverted to its usual drab dark brown and I'd love to get some highlights, but I'd resigned myself to waiting. Any advice, ladies?

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2008 14:40

I think daisy (but I don't dye mine so am no expert) that it's more that your hair reacts differently when pg, so the colour might not take, or might not last, rather than it posing any threat to the pregnancy itself.

What magazine (or type if that gives away too much) do you work on?

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 10/03/2008 14:42

Yes just moving to a bigger house in a village locally so not far but still loads to pack, when we moved to this house its was from a flat with one DC now we have a house and 4 DC!! I'll get there its just hard to get anything done with the DC at home and feeling so sick all the time!

I'm in Cambs btw and for my other pg's i had scan at 6-8 wks, 12 wks and 20 wks but they seem to have changed it to just 12 wks and 20 wks now - still waiting for a scan date to come through too

Can't wait for that as it will all be 'real' then iykwim

I'm seeing mw for 1st time next week (be about 8wks) but could have seen her any time from last week but i couldn't fit it in

right must go and do a bit more packing before i pick DC up from school

rach010 · 10/03/2008 15:09

Hi

Thanks for the thread on knicker checkers ronshar, i feel even more positive now.

Well done bethoo for getting your appointment, it pays to make a fuss sometimes!

I'm in Lincolnshire, we get 2 scans at 12wk's then 20wk's, if you want a nuchal scan you have to pay privately

I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow, keeping everything crossed.

Hope your ok spink

KSal · 10/03/2008 17:29

CSWS, we are on a very similar timetable! just had my blood tests today at 9.5 weeks and have my scan booked in a week and a half, so just under 11 weeks. I am also north herts - will be at the Lister in Stevenage.

daisyj · 10/03/2008 17:40

CSWS - I work on books, actually, for a trade publisher with a number of household-name authors. DH works on magazines (cars and motorsport - boys toys!). Is your aforementioned pedantry a professional pursuit or just a sideline ?

Thanks for the hair advice. I will investigate further. It would be lovely to have a boost - its current colour is setting off my pale-grey winter skin tone beautifully!

daisyj · 10/03/2008 17:47

Sorry, just realised that makes me sound like a pompous show-off . Hard to describe job without sounding a bit smug - it took me 10 years to get the job I really wanted, so I'm always quite pleased with myself about it . Fortunately they're very baby-friendly here, even my somewhat cantankerous boss - otherwise I'd proabably be freaking out about taking time away from it.

caramelbunny · 10/03/2008 18:29

daisyj, from what I've heard the problem is if the dye is actually on your scalp as chemicals could get into blood stream (only tiny possibility) so highlights should be ok safety wise as dye just on the ends of your hair.

I'm in Manchester and we get dating scan and anomaly scan. Have already seen practice midwife and got booking in and scan on 7 April. EPU here is fantastic as well. Any bleeding and you ring and go straight there and they scan you straight away (during day anyway).

Lozza70 · 10/03/2008 18:40

I've only been away for a week and there has been so much to catch up on!

Spink sorry to hear things have not been going so well and I hope DP is looking after you.

Sympton wise I think I've been very lucky apart from very erratic bowels, sorry TMI Unusual pain in one nipple when I take my tablets in the morning, the usual folic plus asprin and thyroxine. I rattle

Am shattered today, got home from Tenerife at 2.45 this morning. We have been having our bathroom, main bedroom and back garden completely gutted. The house is a bombsite!! Spent today trying to get some of the house tidy enough just to sit down. What is worse is that my lovely boss told me to take this week off work as well as I have had 3 M/C's at 10 weeks, hopefully 10 weeks on Thurs, and the work is still going on. I will have to hang out at friends so I can stay out of the way.

Sorry for the rant just good to get it off my chest.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2008 19:12

Daisy - just a sideline for me, and a rare one for an accountant/IT person with a very mathematical background!

KSal - I will also be at the Lister, as we live in a village about 15 mins away. Was quite happy with them last time.

Lozza70 · 10/03/2008 20:00

CSWS - I'm in NE London and here the norm is a dating scan at about 12 weeks and a 20 week anomoly scan. As I am 37 I am getting a nucal fold scan at 12 weeks and the 20 week is booked in. I've had scans every 2 weeks from 6 weeks as I have recurrent M/C for reassurance but this has been at a different hospital than the one I will eventually go to as they are not really interested as far as I can see until you reach 12 weeks. I have not seen a midwife yet but I will be getting my bloods done at my 12 week scan.

Just fingers crossed until 12 weeks for me now!

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2008 20:30

I am really uncomfortable today. Have had stomach pain (in actual stomach, rather than bit that we tend to refer to as tummy) all day long, and it's really quite painful. I don't know whether I've somehow pulled a muscle (are we more prone to that when pg?), or if it's pregnancy related, but I wish it would go away! It's not crampy or anything worrying from a continuing pregnancy pov, but really isn't pleasant.

hi cantsleepwontsleep - it seems from this thread that all sort of pain is common in pregnancy but if you feel ill and/or worried why not phone or visit your gp

bethoo - glad you got the mw appointment in the end

on the nature versus nuture sleeping debate my view is that it is both. I got a lot of help from a sleep expert hv. It took a long time and looking back my ds had undiagnosed reflux and there was nothing that would help him sleep until he got over it. That said the suggestions probably helped to cure the poor sleep habits once he was over the reflux.
I also have a friend with twins where one sleeps and the other doesn't.

I'm not quite nine weeks people at work are making the odd suspicious comment which is really annoying. I don't want to have to out myself yet.

bethoo · 10/03/2008 21:31

CSWS - I too am suffering from tummy pain, it is like when you know you have to go to the loo, but it is not as i am slightly constipated so that may be it. i have the biggest bloat at the mo!!

i am also gettiign quite hormonal as was almost in tears watching Dog Borstal but then my dog only died three weeks ago so maybe it was jsut bringing up memories. does anyone watch it?

moodywren · 10/03/2008 21:34

Does when you have your booking in appointment differ depending on where you live?

My previous pregnancies were in Wiltshire and I didn't see anyone until the midwife at 12 weeks.

But we're in Lincolnshire now and the midwife is visiting me on Wednesday, and I think I am about 8 weeks now.

I still don't feel pregnant (now I've stopped walking to school I'm not feeling at all sick) and I can't tell dh how I feel cos he says I'm just being negative but I have a bad feeling about this pregnancy and cant visualise myself with a new baby in October.

I know I am being completely irrational and stupid. Please ignore me. I'm having a bad day.

bethoo · 10/03/2008 21:40

moody - i feel the same, i know i am preggers and sometimes feel preggers (esp the bloating on a night and the sickness!) but still cant believe that i will have a baby in october!!!

i have found a food i like in this pregnancy!! ricicles with cold Cravendale (full fat!!) milk. yummy.
