Found you

dylansmumplusone · 25/02/2008 16:36

lol at your last post on the other thread makecakes!

i will definitely give total a try for the yogurt... i checked the yv label and it's 10% fat. not quite as much as cream but still pretty heavy!!!

damewashalot · 25/02/2008 16:36

Thought I'd best post before I lost you having only just started posting

makecakesnotwar · 25/02/2008 16:42

Wise move Washalot...first thing I did, having strted the thread, was lose it. Have now added to my watch list!

DMPO- there's a great dessert I do (oh, so modest) that uses whipped cream and natural yogurt...yeo greek is by far the best...and lots of lovely superfoodie fruit. Even DH likes it!

DD1 has deicded she is going to ballet so I will buy some yoghurt and honey!

I just had to postpone my dentist appointment as I will be going to Brussles for a day trip the day before I was due to see hime and the day after that is dd2's party. I think I might regret Brussels being a day trip as I imagine i will want to crawl into bed at 7 pm! At least I will be able to stock up on chocolate - probably not good for the tooth that needs filling!

makecakesnotwar · 25/02/2008 16:45

at thought of all the waffles I could buy if i were going to Brussels...

OP posts:
goingfor3 · 25/02/2008 16:51

Oooh I'd forgotten about the waffles thanks for reminding me! My firend asked what we were actually going to do for the day and I told her we were just going to eat, she seemed happy with that plan!

needahand · 25/02/2008 17:13

oh my god! I have only turned my back for 2 hours and you have started a new thread already!! How mad is that?

First time mums MUST NOT read the following

Upsidedowncake my DD was 5 days late and I was "threatened with induction". She was sort of back to back which meant my labour was very long and painful (36hours). Went in on the Saturday night after a day of contraction and was 1 cm dilated. For about 17 hours out of the 36 (including that whole night) I puked my guts out (and not only that TMI) every 10/15 minutes. Went back to hospital at about 7 or 8 on the Sunday. When they examined me I was only 2 cm dilated. When they told me, it was like all the life drained out of me. I couldn't bear the being sick (or the pain, not sure), begged for an epidural which they wouldn't give me until I was 5 cms which at the time seemed like a long long way away.

I had gas and air, then pethidine, then epidural and of course a drip to rehidrate me. Two hours after the epi, I finally stopped throwing up (I was even throwing up the water from the drip). After that I was starving but they wouldn't let me eat (for about 10 hours) in case I needed a C section. Then everything started to slow down so I had syntonion and finally a long long time after that DD got out with help of a ventouse (I categorically refused the forceps). I also had a tear...

So basically I am probably a little traumatised and would do anything to avoid that again. I know birth is a small thing in the grand scheme of things bus still.

Doula apparently cut labouring time + risk of assisted delievery. Same for hypnobirthing. It all is expensive.. but as I said, I am desperate (and because it is my DC2 hopefully I won't have to spend so much on the baby stuff)

sorry for the novel!!

dylansmumplusone · 25/02/2008 17:19

needahand that sounds terrible. i don't want to sound like an airy fairy hippie but i honestly think hypnobirthing will help put your fears at ease which will make a big difference to the birth... and i think it was you that said it certainly can't hurt!!

oooh makecakes do you fancy sending me the recipe? susieq_cdn at yahoo dot com.

who was it that was thinking of knitting the debbie bliss baby bag??

btw i posted a new bump pic as i seem to have seriously, ahem, bloomed over the past weekend. i swear it has nothing to do with the copious amounts of food that i can't seem to resist...

sophiewd · 25/02/2008 17:22

Needahand - a friend of mine did hypnobirthing for her second DC and she raves about it, her DS was breech and she said that it really helped, I used hypnosis to give up smoking and have never looked back.

debinaustria · 25/02/2008 18:43

Aah, this is where you are - Dylansmum - you look fantastic and definitely blooming!

makecakesnotwar · 25/02/2008 19:02

Recipe on its way Dylansmum!

A new thread! I must admit, I was a bit surprised at how far down the list the old one had slipped, normally we're all far to chatty for it to go beyond the top four or five!

ernest · 25/02/2008 19:42

just 1 word - heartburn

Upsidedowncake · 25/02/2008 19:59

Hi there

I've just redirected the rival June thread over to us.

DMPO - you look great.

needahand, thanks. that's interesting, and there are some parallels. Everyone keeps on telling me that I need to open up to the whole labour / birth thing and then my body will follow. However, I worry that I would not be very susceptible to hypnobirthing as I am a cynical old bag. I have found a doula who also does hypnobirthing so I could have a chat about it with her. It just all seems very expensive.

Goingfor3, Brussels, how lovely. Also steakfrites.

sophiewd · 25/02/2008 20:33

mussels and frites if in Belgium - Yum

systemsaddict · 25/02/2008 20:49

needahand yours sounds a bit like mine - again not a story for first-timers. I was induced at 40+12. Baby not well positioned, after 16 hours of contractions I was told I was 2 cm and nearly fainted, I was sure I must be nearly there!! Then lots of throwing up, meptid, syntocinon, eventual epidural, forceps delivery some several hours after that - and was not given the opportunity to refuse the forceps, ventouse was not an option.

I really do think the hypnobirthing helped me cope. Throughout all of that I never felt panicky, rather the experience left me feeling empowered to have coped, and I'm sure the hypnosis CDs have a lot to do with that. (Dp was more traumatised and still hasn't really recovered - ah the suffering these poor men have to go through )

It may reassure you also that I saw a consultant a few weeks back who said after a first birth like that, second time is (barring other issues of course) likely to be much much easier. She suggested her rule of thumb is that most people are looking at about half the time in labour and a much easier actual delivery. No guarantees of course but it made me feel better!

Oh and any first timers who didn't follow instructons and read this, it's not always like this. I have several friends who had the lovely natural 7 hour water birth experience first time round, so don't let us freak you out!

ernest I just cracked open the Gaviscon tablets today, ah the joys ...

bitofadramaqueen · 25/02/2008 20:54

Hello damewashalot (and everyone else too...).

Not much to add today - am being good (and kind of in denial) and not reading the 'not for first-timers' stories . Tra-la-la (naive first timer trots on her merry way fantasising that labour will be just like it is on the soaps)....

On a more serious note... Do I really need to start thinking about birth stuff? Is it really that time yet?

On the heartburn subject - does it get worse as the pregnancy goes on? I've had it for a few weeks now, but it's normally in very short bursts. I've noticed over the last couple of days its much worse and difficult to ignore... Have a bottle of super strength gaviscon at the ready as well as a handy-handbag sized box of tablets.

libralady · 25/02/2008 20:57

My word you can all talk! Have just found this new thread after my jollies. Haven't had time to catch up with what has been happening - sorry guys.
Well had my scan today (21+6)and everything appears to be well. And it looks like we're having another boy! Yeah. Unfortunately the long cord was between it's legs but the sonographer was sure she saw something that looked like a penis and scrotum on more than one occasion. We've decided not to tell anyone (except you guys!) Now all we got to do is decide on a name we both like.
I'll go and catch up now.
Hope everyone is well.
LLxx

sophiewd · 25/02/2008 21:00

Bitofadramaqueen - oh the joys of heartburn, i didn't even bother with a spoon last time just glugged from the bottle.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/02/2008 21:07

Congrats libralady! You might need to settle down with a cuppa and a creme egg if you want to catch up - today alone there has been a ton of chat!

LOL glugging of gaviscon sophiewd! That'll be me I'm sure. I thought I was getting used to heartburn, but over the last couple of days well, OUCH!

PregnantPenguin · 25/02/2008 21:25

Found you all! Sorry not to have been around for a while, have been soooo tired. Which is terrifying, cos if I'm tired now, what will it be like when I have no sleep and a little one to look after. It's bad enough just trying to look after me....

Haven't found Gaviscon, but got Boots own version (because it said suitable for pregnancy in big letters). It has saved me so much pain in the last week.

Did anyone else get depressed at the picture of Angelia Jolie with her bump? She has Brad Pitt and still looks amazing pregnant, how unfair is that!? I was thinking of sending her a creme egg sabotage parcel so she can look lumpy like me.

Off to physio tomorrow for back ache - luckily it's free at work. Hope it works!

libralady · 25/02/2008 21:38

Have just uploaded my scan photo's if anyone is interested.
Didn't know Angelina was preggers again!

pedilia · 25/02/2008 22:54

thanks to upsidedown for directing me here, I am due june 29th with my 4th DC, another girl!

debinaustria · 26/02/2008 07:22

You must all see this

Happy Tuesday!!
