Hello all and thanks for the messages, Dad is not too good, not life threatening but not well, he had a section of colon removed and recovery is taking a lot longer but mind you he is 74 (although a fit one) DD was a bit worried about the tubes but had fun playing with the bed. He is having a third operation on Monday and in his words, everything that is going in is starting to come out of the right place.

DD still in cot and not to sure when she will move over, we did try a couple of months ago but wasn't interested, will try again soon no doubt.

Jood · 28/02/2008 15:00

er... hello
can I join in?
am due June 10 but very new to MN

debinaustria · 28/02/2008 15:08

HI Jood - welcome to the club!! So tell us a bit more about yourself - is this your first? Are you in the UK? etc etc..

I'm in Austria, I have 2 boys aged 7 and 6 and I'm due on 7th June so just before you.

nettiehay · 28/02/2008 15:15

Hi Jood,

I'm (relatively) new to mumsnet too - due with my first DC on 6/7th June (depending on which midwife to believe). I live in Surrey in the UK (not far from some others around here).

We're a welcoming bunch, so don't be timid - jump right in!

dylansmumplusone · 28/02/2008 15:30

hi jood, welcome! i'm in london expecting no. 2 on 7th june (i think i've forgotten to update the list when they changed my date).

i have to say june is feeling a very long way away today.

just thinking about what to cook tonight, i fancy chicken and artichoke hearts but not too sure how to put them together... any suggestions?

sophiewd · 28/02/2008 15:32

I have a nice recipe for pork and artichoke hearts.sort of spanish rice dish, one pot which I am guessing you can adapt for chicken

dylansmumplusone · 28/02/2008 15:36

ooh that sounds lovely sophie could you email it to me please? susieq_cdn at yahoo dot com.

i had a look on the internet but nothing really caught my fancy.

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 28/02/2008 15:37

Welcome, Jood! Tell us more about yourself...

I got my support band from the physios yesterday to hold up my enormous bump - she said it would only fit for a few weeks then I would have to go to the hospital to have a more industrial one fitted . It does feel nice. She gave me some exercises to do to too - pulling in my tummy when I do my pelvic floor.

I start Pilates tonight - physio said that would be good too. I am scared I am going to be the biggest momma there - I bet everyone else has cure little bumps! Will let you know tomorrow...

Jood · 28/02/2008 15:39

hello then, thank-you for the welcome!
this is my second pregnancy, my little girl is 3 yrs old

I also live in Surrey and work in London 2 days a week, then also at home 2 days a week.

I have never cooked an artichoke heart in my life....

nettiehay · 28/02/2008 15:43

I've never cooked an artichoke heart either!! In fact before I came to the UK I'd never even seen an artichoke - us Aussies are simple folk!!

mellymell · 28/02/2008 15:49

Afternoon all.

Welcome Jood.

Artichokes and chicken - what about a nice hot chicken and artichoke salad with a good vinegrette, and if that's too healthy, lob in a potato (new) or five.

Am feeling ginormous - am about the same size as I was at 7 months. Also, my pelvic floor is definitely not what it was the first time round. Am doing my exercises like mad, but am just not very comfortable. Sorry if too much info - I like to share .

Oh god, have just found out that the 15 year old car that we sent off to the dump on the weekend (my DH with a tear in his eye as he said goodbye to 'Barry') has been mended by the dump guy . This means, I won't get a nice new (well second hand) shiny MPV, but am stuck with a horrible white mitsubishi gallant that will not die - aaaagggghhh.

[MM finishes rant and sits in the corner wistfully turning the pages of Autocar dreaming of what might have been]

Jood · 28/02/2008 15:56

Sympathy to Neenz and Melly on size. I am about the size I was just before giving birth last time. I know this because I can no longer fit into my old maternity clothes!! Also people keep looking at me with concern as they think I am about to give birth in the office.

Please nag me about pelvic floor exercises. I think I still have a PF somewhere but I can't quite find it at the moment.

MM, would a bit of subtle sabotage be in order for the Mitsubishi? Or bribe the dump guy to undo his work on the quiet?

dylansmumplusone · 28/02/2008 16:07

that sounds nice too mm. i'm slightly obsessed with artichokes at the moment. they're just so yummy. shame about the car. i recommend turning the steering wheel as hard as possible and then hitting the gas, particularly in reverse - it should snap the drive shaft. don't ask me how i know that.

i'm smaller than i was with ds at this point but everyone keeps telling me how huge i am so i'm getting a complex! i'm sure if i hadn't eaten 2 tonnes of chocolate i'd be even smaller! i have been really lazy about pelvic floor this time too - not good.

mellymell · 28/02/2008 16:07

Jood

If I had realised that 'Barry' was going to turn into 'Lazarus', I would have put sugar in the tank and ripped irreplaceable engine parts out. Unfornately our car has this weird effect on all men - they all comment on what a great car it is and how it'll go on for years (sob). Even when we broke down, the AA man wanted to take 'him' off us. I am resigned to the fact that I am always going to drive a rubbish heap which negatively affects the house prices in the area.

mellymell · 28/02/2008 16:08

Dylansmum

Careful of artichokes - they're not called fartichokes for nothing!

dylansmumplusone · 28/02/2008 16:11

LOL! never heard that one before!! another reason i'm convinced i'm having a girl (in addition to the fact that i'm not hairy at all, i have a sex drive which i didn't with ds, my skin is good which it wasn't with ds, and i'm shaped differently) is that i haven't been too gassy. with ds i can honestly say i wouldn't have blamed dh for sleeping in the spare room for 9 months until he was born!

sophiewd · 28/02/2008 16:16

Juat fogot sister has it, had for monthsnever given back and she is not ansewering her phone

Rolf · 28/02/2008 16:18

We used to have a car like that. It was an ancient Volvo estate that smelled and the gear stick knob fell off whenever we turned a corner, leading DH to shout "where's my knob?". We have been trying to get a proper car since before DD (now 2.5) was born. I have finally put my foot down and told DH that when we re-mortgage I'm putting some ectra money on it and buying a people carrier for which only I will have a key.

Welcome Jood

Rolf · 28/02/2008 16:36

Neenz - what is your support band like? I am find my bump quite uncomfortable and wondered if I'd be better with something more powerful than this attractive thing www.tum2tum.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=69

mellymell · 28/02/2008 17:07

Rolf - LOL

I suppose it is quite handy to have a crap car in London. The number of times we have left it unlocked and noone has bothered to even break in. Also, our baby seat tripled the value of the car!

Sorry everyone else, will stop talking cars and will go back to bumps.

I bought some of those material bands which are really useful if you want to carry on wearing your pre-bump t-shirts but don't want to display flesh becuase your shirts are now too shirt.

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 28/02/2008 17:27

Nettie, never knew you were an Aussie! Me too - well, I was born there, lived there till I was 8 then moved to UK (parents both British) and have been here ever since (22 years!). Consider myself British now but have the passport there which is nice, gives me options (but then also gives my kids options so they will probably all desert me when they are older!)

Rolf, the support band I have is just like the one you have - like a tubigrip. i think the next one I get (if I need it) will be a more industrial type.

LOL at the car story! How many miles has it done?

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 28/02/2008 17:29

Rolf, maybe your midwife can refer you for physio if the tubigrip band is not doing the job?

bitofadramaqueen · 28/02/2008 17:42

Eek, just been reminded about pelvic floor exercise again. Anyone got any good tips for remembering to do thing. I do some sporadically (maybe about once a week) and even then not sure if I'm doing the right amount/doing them right. For some reason, internet baby shopping is just more appealing than PF exercises...

Hello Jood - welcome to MN and the thread! We're a nice bunch (there are some scary threads out there though, so mind how you go) .
