Dylansmum - so pleased I'm not the only one who disgusts even herself .

Goingfor4 - great news!

I have been all out front with all my pregnancies and have 2DSs, 1DD and am expecting a girl. By the end the bump is lower each time, but I'm sure that's a reflection of my stomach muscles rather than the sex of the baby!

goingfor3 · 27/02/2008 18:57

Rolf the thought of goingfor4 makes me feel faint!

Rolf · 27/02/2008 19:02

oops, sorry! no pressure!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/02/2008 19:21

I was feeling quite gluttonous today after a big fat sugary doughnut but feel much better now . DH was wondering where the entire packet of (low fat) chocolate eclairs from the freezer had gone though...

I like the sound of v weak shandy - think I shall mentally file that away for the lovely summer nights that I WILL HAVE while on mat leave waiting for the baby to come. Weak shandy, tall glass, lots of ice, mmmmmmm.

debinaustria · 28/02/2008 06:20

Good morning everyone - how are you all today - anyone queasy after the doughnuts? I intended to have a healthy breakfast but the sugar puffs just fell out of the cupboard and into my bowl - that's all your fault Ernest

I had a really restless night with baby moving loads, felt like it was knocking to be let out - right down there!!

aberdeenhiker · 28/02/2008 07:54

Deb, me too! I was up four times to pee last night - where has my bladder gone?

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 08:21

AH - 4 times to pee at this stage!!!! You poor thing.

On the cute front my ds has been super cute the last few days. Last night my dh brought him upstairs to go to bed and he went running off and got into our bed and pulled the covers up. It was one of those 'aaaahhhhh' moments. I'm hoping this is a good sign as we are planning to move him to a big bed from his cot in about 2 months time to make room for his little brother or sister.

sophiewd · 28/02/2008 08:22

Hello everyone, Still no sugary cravings here, have just had a large bowl of Alpen though as starting to feel ewlly bloated on bread in mornings. I went gardening in he sunshine yesterday and overdid it and my legs hurt today, so going to be nice and quiet and catch up on bookwork. Hopefully going o go and see my Dad who is in hospital.

aberdeenhiker · 28/02/2008 08:37

Josie - I'm hoping that once this LO gets head down it'll take the pressure off my bladder. Right now I think s/he's kicking me there and waking me up!

We're also moving DS (20 months) to a big bed, probably this weekend, I'm working from home today to wait for it to be delivered. I'm so nervous as he's waking up far too early anyways (5:30am). Any advice from others about how to tie your children into bed?

sophie - hope your Dad is okay!

bitofadramaqueen · 28/02/2008 08:45

I've had an unhealthy breakfast too deb - had to pop into shop on way to work and accidentally came out with a roll and sausage. Very bad for you. .

Sophie - hope your dad ok and its nothing to0 serious!

On the sleeping front, I'm wondering if the third trimester has come early for me... I'm starting to feel really tired and sleepy mid afternoon and have been waking up three or four times a night over the last few days. I'm not particularly conscious of the baby moving so not sure what's waking me up. I've got a maternity pillow thingy to help me get comfy but when I wake up its always lying on the floor! Not sure how I manage that because its got a bit that you lie on so there's an extra pillow behind your back to stop you rolling onto your back .

Quick question to ask - when I feel the baby kicking and moving about its still really really low. Is that normal? I'm just short of 24 weeks. I cant figure out what's filling up my bump if the baby is way down there. Creme eggs maybe ?

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 08:51

AH- I'll be interested to hear how your ds gets on with his move to a big bed as we are planning to move our ds at 20 months. I'm nervous about it as he is a really good sleeper at the moment and I don't want to change that. Are you going to put a nightlight in his room? I am tempted to still keep his room dark in the hope that this will discourage him from getting up and playing. What type of bed have you gone for? A traditional single or some sort of toddler bed?

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 08:55

BDQ - it might be that you are just feeling the legs/feet kicking down below and don't feel the hand/arm/elbow/shoulder movements just yet. My little one is lying transverse at the moment and I am only feeling kicks at the bottom left of my bump and the midwife says my bump size/height etc is normal for my dates. As the baby grows bigger and stronger and the space gets more limited you will feel the kicks and wriggles all over! I used to be able to watch an arm move right the way across my belly later on in my pregnancy last time.

aberdeenhiker · 28/02/2008 09:01

Josie - we've just gone for a narrow single bed rather than a toddler bed - I didnt want to be buying more furniture in a few more years! I was going to keep his room dark - hadn't thought about a nightlight!

BDQ - my big kicks are still really low too - I only get little ones up top (I'm 26 weeks) so I think it's probably normal.

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 09:16

AH - we were planning to put him straight into a normal single as we didn't want to be buying two lots of furniture and having to introduce another bed change later on.

As for the nightlight....I prefer not to use them as I think it encourages better sleep in a dark room. Plus once in the freedom of a big bed I think/hope it will discourage my ds getting up and exploring. However, my MIL thinks I am cruel for making him sleep in the dark as he might be scared when he wakes up. The thing is he is used to a dark room as he has been in a dark room for sleeping since birth - I still use the blackout blinds during the day as well. Plus he never wakes up at night anyway.

dylansmumplusone · 28/02/2008 09:42

morning! we converted ds' cot to a bed when he was 18 months. seems early but he was trying to climb out already! also we didn't want the change to be too close to the baby coming in case he didn't like it and blamed the change on the baby!

we put pillows or a doubled up duvet on the floor beside the bed for the first few weeks. he fell out a couple times but honestly wasn't that bothered about it - we just heard a thump and went and put him back in. of course, because it was a cotbed it's very low to the ground. i think it helped him learn to stay in on his own. anyway he loves it and is sleeping better (and later, from 5.30 to 7.30) than he did in the cot!

oh and we kept it dark - i think the light disturbs them and also i've read it's bad for their eyes. read this

whew sorry for the novel. off to soft play, have a lovely morning!!

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 10:56

DMPO - interesting link for the night lights. Will remember that one when I am told it's cruel to leave him in the dark.

I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing evening tonight. My dh is off out for the evening so it's just me and my ds. Plan is to put ds to bed early and then do something for me, maybe a soak in the bath, early to bed with a good book, a chick flick or tidy the office, well maybe not the last one! Just trying to decide whether I should pop to M&S at lunchtime to pick up something nice to eat - not sure I can be trusted in M&S at lunchtime when I am hungry!!!!

debinaustria · 28/02/2008 11:02

Sophie - hope your Dad's OK

Josie - When we moved ds1 into his big bed we bought bunk beds and just built the top one so that it had the bars so he couldn't fall out but he could climb out.I'll post a photo of I have one on my profile so that you can see as I'm not explaining ,myself very well.Didn't do night lights.

debinaustria · 28/02/2008 11:16

Photo is on now Josie

nettiehay · 28/02/2008 11:20

Morning all - I am feeling very tired today - although it has nothing to do with pregnancy! We had our charity ball committee meeting last night in London and then went for a meal. DP and I were only going to stay for the starter (didn't get into the restaurant until 9.30pm!) but inevitably stayed longer. Then we offered a friend a lift home, got stuck in traffic, got out of traffic and then ran out of petrol! Finally got home at 1am - only 3 and a half hours past when I normally fall asleep on the sofa!
And we have a John Lewis consultation this evening after work, which apparently goes for 2 hours so won't be home until after 8pm... I think I will crawl into bed then (if I can make it up the stairs!). I am seriously considering a nap under my desk at lunch time - do you think my boss will notice??

Josie57 · 28/02/2008 11:34

Thanks deb - I do follow what you mean about the bars and we had thought about getting one of those bed rails and then putting the bed against the wall, plus a duvet on the floor in case! I just wonder whether the temptation will be for him to get up and wander round his room open all the cupboards etc. At the moment he just lies down when I put him to bed, he doesn't even stand up in his cot. Perhaps I should stop worrying/trying to second guess what will happen and just wait and see.

Nettie - you must be feeling shattered. I only had 2 hours sleep on Sunday night as my dh was ill. I was fine on Monday but then crashed and burned on the Tuesday. I'd have a nap if you could. At Uni people used to fall asleep in the library with their head propped up on hands. They do say that 5 min micro sleeps can really invigorate you and I have done this when I have been driving long distances and it worked for me. Not sure what it will be like in pregnancy.

aberdeenhiker · 28/02/2008 11:47

We've bought a bed rail to stop DS falling out, but same as Josie, it's the early morning wandering I'm worried about! He can open doors and while we've a gate at the bottom of the stairs, I don't like the idea of him playing in the bathroom while we're sleeping.

Nettie, do you have a first aid room at your office? I've snuck into ours for a quick nap a couple times when I was completely shattered - it definitely helped and at least my boss wouldn't find me!

ernest · 28/02/2008 12:03

morning everyone. am trying to be good now, as have been a pig for the last - oh - 5 months or so. have had tomatoes beetroot and red pepper for lunch. my fingers are all now stained bright red.

re night light - no way! why do something that could potentially cause sleep problems for years, on the off chance he might be scared (but just as likely might not) We've always had black out lining, or now, shutters.

nettiehay · 28/02/2008 12:07

No first aid bed (that I know of) but since I work at an Historic Palace, there are some beds here - although, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to sleep on Anne Boleyn's bed! I think a 15 minute power nap will do me the world of good at lucnh time...

zzzzzzzzz

bitofadramaqueen · 28/02/2008 13:09

Thanks all for the reassurance about my low kicks. I've started to notice lately when I lie on my side and the baby kicks I can feel my tummy pushing out against bed/sofa. However, whenever DH and I try and watch my tummy for signs of movement the LO decides to be very still.

All the night light stuff is very useful - I wouldn't have thought about any of that at all. Interestingly, I read somewhere else that summer babies are more prone to short-sightedness too?

Josie - cant believe your MIL thinks your cruel. Obviously I have no personal experience to draw on, but eyesight health aside, it seems common sense not to introduce a night light if he's already used to a dark room.

Nettie - sneak a nap on Anne Boleyn's bed - she wont be needing it anymore.. .

katyjo · 28/02/2008 13:18

We put ds 23 months in his big bed 2 weeks ago, I was really worried about it, but it has gone really well (touch wood). We got an extentable bed for mothercare, we just have it on the smallest size at the mo but it is nice and low to the floor so not too far to fall. We left his cot in the room for the first week (bit of a squeeze) just in case he decided to go running around in the night but no problems so far. We didn't use a night light, only ever had one when I was still doing night feeds, so I could see what I was doing!!

Glad everyone is ok. 'bq' I have only just started feeling the baby move harder and higher up and I am 27 weeks today so I wouldn't worry. I am really looking forward to my next mw appointment its next tues, I'm hoping she can tell me which way the baby is lying, although the amount of movement I'm getting I think it must be training for the olympics so I doubt it will be in one place for long!!
