It took over an hour to get my epidural in last time (apparently my epidural cavity isn't in the usual place), during which period I had to lie still on my side, and during which I went from 5cm to fully dilated so by the time it was in it wasn't needed. So I am not planning on getting one again...

PortAndLemon · 26/02/2008 22:21

By the way, any Londoners planning to go to the Baby Show this week?

Mollyfloss · 26/02/2008 22:23

I've asked to be told in plenty of time when my last chance to have an epidural is... or maybe I will just have chosen to have one way before then. The Doc said about 50% of women come in and say they want an epidural as early as possible.

Mollyfloss · 27/02/2008 09:15

PAL: I went to the baby show at Earls Court when I was about 3 months pregnant. It's just loads of stuff for sale that you could get anywhere. We paid something like £14 to get in which is a bit stiff just to then buy stuff (and I didn't buy anything). We stayed for less than an hour. Maybe if you have tons of stuff to buy it's worth it but otherwise I wouldn't bother. The other thing is that it was packed with loads of pregnant women and parents with kids so the line for the loos was huge! I didn't queue and bjust decided to leave at that stage...

Peachy · 27/02/2008 09:21

I can't have an epidural- I have several scarred spinal discs so its not an option, which is good really- either I cope or its a c-section under G&A LOL

Feel awful today. Started getting contractions alst night in my back, big painful ones that were like those I had with DS2- OP labour Sure enough, after prodding we can feel babies ribs not spine. Getting them every 30 minutes until Dh had to go to work (staying home not an option, they get closed own if less than a minimum number on shift and one has gone off with Pleurisy (because obviously he's a 19th century poet rather than a fat, stressy, 60 year old transport manager LOL), two got annoyed at being refused holiday so just went sick instead, so no cover for DH unless I am actually officially in labour and can start paternity leave). Anyway, as soona s he left boys came down really hyper and, as we've noticed before, on sight of them everything stopped.

Finally got ds1 settled at 1am and started feeling really nauseous and couldn't sleep, contractions started again at 2- then ds3 woke up. At 3am finally got to sleep, Dh came home at 6.30 am, one contraction then boys woke and nowt.

Except that I have found a massive bruise on my leg and no idea where it comes from, though vaguely remember a stinging pain briefly in the night. It's quite big- 5cm square- and dark grey. No idea about what thats about, but feel really shattered, moody, faint, tender (from all the contractions) and have a miles trek up the hill for Uni at mid day.

Good-oh then.

Scorpio- glad you're feeling better!.

northeastmummy · 27/02/2008 09:31

Peachy - I think you should stay off uni today and get some rest. Don't just try and keep going - now is the time to put yourself first.

Glad to hear everything settled down Scorpio. I wonder what that was?

Molly - I think your birth plan sounds great. My only comment would be on the tens until hospital and then ... etc. I used my tens the whole way through labour, right up to the last contraction, and for me it was brilliant. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but if you're getting on well with it, don't give up on it.

I did also have a shot of morphine which didn't do anything for me at all. It doesn't relieve the pain, it relaxes you and makes things more bearable but I think I was already relaxed so i think I'd try and avoid having it again.

Peachy · 27/02/2008 09:38

You're right NEM, but sadly I'm not allowed any more time off or they'll boot me out- have to have next week off for an LEA meeting and that's my absolute limit.

Going to try to nap first though.

ToastAddict · 27/02/2008 09:39

Morning

Peachy - I agree, you really should be taking it easy

Earthquake was exciting, wasn't it? Huge adrenaline rush gave me twinges - I'm sure they weren't contractions , juts kind of mild period-type pains. And baby kicked furiously for an hour or so.....

Scorpio - glad you're feeling better, did wonder if we'd get a "I'm in labour" post this morning!!

Peachy · 27/02/2008 09:42

We didnt get the earthquake here, we did get all our shed windows shattered in one in Somerset a few years back though (and Landlord made us pay- prat!).

DS1 can be sensitive to environmental stuf flike storms etc, so wonder if that didnt help last night.

KnitterInTheNW · 27/02/2008 10:34

Did anyone just see homes under the hammer? The sister of the man who bought the house for his parents, is our antenatal teacher/midwife lady! I just glanced up and she was on telly, and last night she was showing us round the labour ward, how bizarre!

ToastAddict · 27/02/2008 10:42

Sadly, I am still at work, so have not yet entered the realm of HUTH

2 weeks 2 days til mat leave starts - not that I'm counting or anything (and have 2 days leave in there, so only actually 10 working days left, after today )

OP posts:
Sheds75 · 27/02/2008 10:59

how bizarre knitter!

northeastmummy · 27/02/2008 11:01

I'm still working as well so i missed her too Knitter . Coincidentally though, we did have a tour of our labour ward last night. And they took us into the room where DD was delivered! It brought EVERYTHING back but thankfully they were happy memories.

Peachy - I can't believe how unreasonable universities can be at times. So much for work/life balance - how about uni/life balance. Surely they can't expect you to get the most out of it when you're in need of rest. Anyway, hopefully you're napping now.

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 11:02

Morning

My back still hurts; will mention to MW today, im seeing her at lunchtime. think i must have pulled it or something...

I saw the yoga teacher in town yesterdya, i havent been able to go for a while - they changed the place and time and DH wouldnt be able to pick me up. She is going to pick me up and drop me home thats lovely isn't it! Have really missed it.

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 11:03

Peachy - your uni sunds very unreasonable. my uni doesn't mind at all.

northeastmummy · 27/02/2008 11:19

Scorpio - what did you say to add to RLT again to make it taste nicer? I have a box on my desk but can't bring myself to start drinking it.

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 11:20

Honey or sugar

SuzeM · 27/02/2008 11:33

Peachy, sorry you are not feeling good.

Molly, can you please tell me if the Opéra district is a good area in which to stay? I see a few Eurostar deals so thinking of going to Paris for Easter. Merci à l'avance.

I wouldn't need to take out extra insurance for going away, would I, as long as I bring my EHIC card?

I slept through the earthquake.

SuzeM · 27/02/2008 11:34

Scorpio, that is really nice of the teacher. I hope your back improves.

SuzeM · 27/02/2008 11:38

P.S. Molly, is the Opéra area where Galerie Lafayette is?

EllieG · 27/02/2008 13:22

Hey all - hope everyone is alright today.

Take it easy peachy if you are feeling tired today - no point in pushing yourself.

Glad you're feeling better scorpio

Very jealous of Paris break - sounds luverly suze

Am on duty today - had this daft woman ringing up wanting to put her daughter into care cos she's a goth, 'into' witchcraft (Mum found some crystals - if it had been crystal meth then maybe I would worry too) and doesn't always do her homework. Good grief. Normal 15 year old behaviour or what?

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 14:04

Ellie!! just seems normal to me....poor girl

MW said MillieMollyMoo is head down still, so expect she will be forever now. She is good size (33 cm fundal height - im 33 weeks) and not engaged yet. Mentioned backache and she said to take it easy; stretching pain etc. She is seeing me fortnightly now and said to make GP appt to confirm taking AD's - prescription @ Mill's 24 hour check is preferable. fine by me!

EllieG · 27/02/2008 14:08

Oh that's good to hear that all is OK with Millie and you scorpio. Make sure you do take her advice and go easy a bit though OK? [naggy emoticon]

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 14:14

Yes Ellie though its really not possible to rest...DH starts work at 8am so cant do school runs, and i still have to do lots of stuff for house/kids etc in the day.

looking forward to yoga later...plus i think well i am going to be very busy in 6 weeks time so enjoy it now!!

scorpio1 · 27/02/2008 14:19

oh and saw the fucking mardy neighbours today at the bus stop and they asked when Millie due; i said 5-6 weeks, im having a HB sorry if i wake you up hee hee.

Got looked at like a FREAK.
