@LauraA31 I had anterior placenta last time. I first felt the tiniest thuds at 18 weeks. X

IvyAurora · 17/11/2022 11:13

@LauraA31 I started feeling things at around 16 weeks but only after I've eaten loads of sweets and then sit with my legs up Smile.

I've got a low anterior placenta so can't feel anything from the outside, it's like a tumbling or fluttering feeling. At first I wasn't sure if it was wind or muscles twitching or something but it went on for quite a while and I've been able to repeat it!

From the scans I've had he is very active so that might have something to do with it

Hannah223344 · 17/11/2022 11:25

@LauraA31 I'm 18wks tomorrow with my 1st and don't think I've felt anything yet .... only feeling I've had which may be baby is a quick sensation low down that feels like he's done a somersault, however this could also totally not be him either!!

Cuppasoupmonster · 17/11/2022 11:27

@LauraA31 it was 18 weeks for me as a FTM and my placenta was posterior!

@Skylark1990 thats great that they’re listening to you and helping you to make an informed decision. Could you maybe try phoning ahead in labour to check there’s a pool available for you and stay home if not? That might give them an incentive to make sure one is available. What’s the difference between a tear and obstetric bleed? Ive never heard of it!

I’ve requested a meeting with a senior midwife but haven’t heard back yet. I’m keen to push the date back to 38 weeks as long as scans and tests are all clear. I’m type 1 diabetes which is the main issue, but it’s frustrating because apart from that I’m very low risk - in my pregnancy with DD I was ideal BMI, perfect blood pressure, test results all fine, and this pregnancy is the same bar the worse sickness. It’s just the one complication that instantly puts me into high risk, but my blood sugars (for a diabetic) are very good and within their targets - the main issue is a big baby who has blood sugar issues at birth, DD was 55th centile and had no sugar issues at all. So nothing, bar my condition on paper, is leading me to believe an induction at bang on 37 weeks is necessary at the moment.

90% people with type 1 have c sections though so there’s very little in the way of research and facts/figures to look at my options. I’m a special case!

@Cuppasoupmonster that's really interesting. Is type 1 more severe that type 2? Is it also different in terms of risk factors to if you develop diabetes in pregnancy, or would the risk factors be the same? I know that there is some literature that says if the pregnancy is going well and no risk factors aside from the diabetes diagnoses, you can wait and avoid induction but I am no expert at all on diabetes or GD. I do think though as you say, waiting till 38 weeks sounds sensible especially as they put your dates forward. It might be that you would go into labour early anyway, considering your induction at 37 weeks went quite smoothly last time when for lots of women, 37 weeks would be too early. I'm pretty sure if they tried to induce me at 37 weeks last time I would have had a section!

So I think the difference is to do with whether it is a post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) or haemorrhage during labour? TBH I am not entirely sure and after a quick google it seems a bleed during labour/delivery is sort of grouped under PPh anyway but a slightly different sort. She said today that I had a severe obstectic bleed/haemorrhage because I lost the blood right after delivery of DD so it wasn't delayed... something like that. She said they'd be keen to give me a canula during labour this time so I could be looked after quickly if needed. It is a bit scary, as big bleeds can of course cause very bad maternal outcomes, but I do think it happened to me because of the circs around the labour.

I think unless I decide to go for a hospital birth, I will plan a home birth as we would need to hire a pool etc. If there are no midwives avail to come out (which apparently is happening more and more due to cuts) I will request a room with a pool and go in.

Haha sorry for the essay x

Question... is it normal this early in pregnancy to be out of breath doing the smallest of things like walking up the stairs? It wouldn't normally make me out of breath. I feel tired all the time but maybe it's just lack of fitness 😕

xalexandra · 17/11/2022 12:38

@MamaMenna I walked up three flights of stairs at the doctors the other day and I honestly felt like I was gonna have a heart attack 🤣 I was so worn out and out of breath! And that's coming from someone who is fairly fit, I haven't exercised since pregnancy but I was a gym goer before! Even when I go for walks, my partner always says to me "you sound out of breath" 🤣

BeingHappy · 17/11/2022 15:58

Thank you so much @IvyAurora and @Skylark1990 for your lovely messages 🤗 I don't know why I got myself in such a state over being organised

I'm feeling lots better today, had the 20 week scan earlier and everything is healthy and happy.. I got soo nervous prior to the scan as my BMI is 36 but everything is OK.

I was reading through the notes and noticed head circumference is 170mm which is apparently in the right range but lower than average 😥and then we heard the baby's heartbeat fine but I can't find the heart rate recorded. I looked at my previous scan and it was recorded. Does anyone know under what acronym it's recorded in the 20 week scan, if at all?

Thank you xx

Jexi · 17/11/2022 16:31

Is anyone else's scan not until December? Ours is Dec 1st. Feels like agessss away.

xalexandra · 17/11/2022 16:33

@Jexi mines the 2nd. Just counting down the days!

PuddingBear · 17/11/2022 16:40

Yep, the 7th!

MamaMenna · 17/11/2022 17:16

@Jexi I'm due right at the end of april so mine isn't tip Dec either

Springblooms08 · 17/11/2022 17:21

With back pain, at what point would you be worried? I’ve had pretty debilitating back pain for the last couple of days. I had some rib pain yesterday but only briefly and not since then. I did have a slightly bad back before anyway. Just wondering whether it’s anything to be concerned about really. I’ll be 18w tomorrow. Thanks ladies x

IvyAurora · 17/11/2022 17:42

@Jexi yes, not until 5th December. I really wish it was sooner

LauraA31 · 17/11/2022 18:06

@PuddingBear ours is the 7th too, i feel like its so far away!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/11/2022 18:16

@Jexi Mine's December 7th and I won't even be quite 20 weeks by then. I'm due April 28th, so one of the latest people in this group.

I'm taking DH to the scan and he's beyond excited. We're both taking the morning off work and we'll go out to lunch afterwards. TBH I'm more excited about taking a day off and having a slap-up lunch.

Lisa221987 · 17/11/2022 18:20

Hey everyone! So lovely to see people getting there 20 week scans.. im so sad that i dont even have an appointment for mine yet. Im currently 19 weeks 4 days. Ive been ringing the hospital daily who just keep saying you are on a waiting list. The lady i spoke to today was so rude she said no availability you arent the only one pregnant 😩 i just want to make sure baby is ok and get the reassurance a scan gives but to not even have a date booked in is giving me anxiety. My midwife is escalating she said its not good enough, she has also told me to contact PALS which i have done this evening. Fingers crossed i get one within the next week or so

RackJussells · 17/11/2022 19:02

Hi all, had our scan today for my fiancés birthday and…it’s a boy! 💙 I’m so happy as we have a soon to be 7 year old girl.

Our Official 20 week scan isn’t until December 9th, so I have a bit of a wait for that scan too xx

Jexi · 17/11/2022 19:10

Congratulations @RackJussells 💙

Longbin · 17/11/2022 19:11

@Lisa221987 that's so rude! Doesn't it have to be before 21 weeks? That doesn't give them very long to get you booked in

Lisa221987 · 17/11/2022 19:32

I know i said this! It should be between 18 and 21 weeks. I said am i going to get a scan before then. They said we cant give you a scan when an appointment doesnt exist! Its not like i was late ti booking in or anything. My 12 week scan appointment was booked well in advance. Even my consultant said at my appt a couple of weeks ago i should chase that appt up. Im so worried i just wont get one on time.

Tubbytele · 17/11/2022 19:50

@Margo34 DS gave up his nap just before his 2nd bday in sept, I found the transition to no naps quite hard at first as it was so nice getting some rest during the weekend in the day to do other things but you do adjust quite quickly.

Tubbytele · 17/11/2022 19:57

Not sure if anyone remembers but I had asked if anyone had experienced severe dizziness a few weeks back. Turns out I've got an underactive thyroid and my old GP ignored it because it was borderline but my new GP said I should have been on meds a long time back! Got a blood test next week to fully confirm it but it explains all the extreme tiredness and odd symptoms. Just putting it out there in case it helps anyone. Has anyone else experienced underactive thyroid?

ancienthouse · 17/11/2022 19:58

@MamaMenna I get out of breath going up and down stairs now. I had to go up and down 3 times this evening as I kept forgetting stuff for DS bedtime and I was knackered by the time I was done! Pregnancy is rough on our bodies.

@Margo34 I miss naptime sometimes because DS just doesn't stop, so afternoons are exhausting sometimes. But it's also nice that we can go out and plan our day without worrying about fitting naps in. We try to have "quiet time" but some days it's more successful than others 😂

ancienthouse · 17/11/2022 20:03

@Skylark1990 I've read that they always try to convince women to have a cannula in "just in case" but in an emergency they can get one in so quickly it doesn't really matter. I'm going to refuse to have one until it's necessary, I hate the things.

I was told after my birth that I had a PPH but it was only 500ml which isn't much really, it's how much I was giving when I donated blood. I'm not letting them use that as a reason to convince me of anything!!
