Can't really say anything to help, I'm afraid, just so sorry it went badly

VictorianSqualor · 05/02/2008 17:23

Oh PM, how horrid. I'd write and complain to the head of midwifery explaining that you feel that as there was no way either you or the doctor could be sure that is was urine or waters without some form of tests that you feel it wasn't taken seriously and are extremely unhappy.

Did you say you've posted on here? I'm sure that one of the midwives that posts on MN can tell you the 'norm' for these situations so you know what you're talking about.

Whatever you do, you cannot let it lie, someone needs to know that things are not being taken seriously, ok?

paranoidmummy · 05/02/2008 17:47

thanks vs and toast

i know that i can't stand for it in case something is wrong but it just feels such an uphill struggle for something i'm sure that should be offered routinely. its just really not fair (stroppy little girl emoticon!)

i have posted in the pregnancy topic (not sure how to link) and people have been brill but i took all advice on board and i was really strng at the hosp and she honestly took no notice. not meaning to offend anyone AT ALL here and i don't mean this to sound rude but she barely spoke english and it was really really difficult for us to communicate with each other anyway which didn't help matters

am going back to work tomorrow cos i need to get my life back to normal a bit before i end up commiting suicide! i am going to do as u say vs and write a letter to the head of midwfery and also contact my midwife from my gp surgery who was so good this morn and get her advice. other than that i'm just going to have to keep a really good eye on things and trust my instinct if anything feels wrong.

am also contacting my community midwife to speak about a home vbac as not sure how they will feel about it. tbh i don't give a crap! if there is any problem i imagine my ds would be more mentally equipt to deal with it than any of those shitty drs...

GOD I AM CROSS!

northeastmummy · 05/02/2008 18:52

PM - it certainly sounds like you are doing the right thing by writing a letter. I would also phone them or speak to your GP about getting a second opinion. I've been quite amazed at how different a response you can get to a situation depending who you speak to. It's all very well them saying you don't need a scan but for your peace of mind, I would think that's the least they could do!

scorpio1 · 05/02/2008 20:01

Re: Respisense.
my friend had one of these for her ds - her sister died of cot death so it was recommended. only thing is it falls off nappy quite easily and went off loads! i think the pads may be better because less chance of false alarm maybe?

Did you hear about that poor poor woman who died after birth because someone put an epidural in her arm?? poor woman.

Millie is massive i have decided. i dont know where else she can go! no stretchmarks yet though....although i am so tired i fell asleep on the sofa with Jamie at 6.30pm!

Peachy · 05/02/2008 21:08

paranoid mummy post on here and you'll get good advice about a homebirth after caesarean, and maybe on the PROM too? Loads of midwives on tehre.

Also AIMS has a fab website and can send you lots of information (association for improvement in maternity services)

Denny185 · 05/02/2008 21:23

PM, sorry youve had such a shit time of it, hope you manage to get the outcome you'd like tomorrow. Sorry no words of wisdom just keep strong, good luck and {{{{{{{ }}}}}}}

Mollyfloss · 05/02/2008 22:28

Rainbowdays: Happy birthday!!! hope you had a nice day. Supposedly 40 is the new 30!

Paranoid: Sounds like a bunch of twits at the hospital!

Re: Breathing monitors etc. I think it is a little overcautious but at the same time I think I'm going to get one as I think it will give me some peace of mind. I've been known to check if DH is breathing at times when he goes really quiet. If I could put a little monitor on him too I probably would

I am quite fed up of maternity clothes too but am dreading the stage after the baby is born when I won't fit into my old clothes but the maternity one's will be too big (hopefully!) sort of like when I was 3 months pregnant. It's like being in no man's land for clothes. I used to be a size 8 weighing just over 8 stone and I have no idea how I am ever going to get back to that.

My DH came back from the USA. he went a bit nuts over there and brought a load of baby stuff back including a juicy couture baby changing bag. Then a friend came around with a maxi cosi, baby bath & moses basket. she is giving us a bugaboo next week. So I suppose I am officially a SW cliché now with bag and buggy.

Have to go to Paris tomorrow for work, will be there for a week. Sounds great but really is a pain. Lucky that DH is coming over for the weekend.

TLSM · 05/02/2008 22:59

Paranoid ohh that would drive me made like calling a call centre ahhhhh! Would speak to your midwife again the one that referred you explain how you feel!

Happy Birthday Rainbow I am 30 on Sunday although feel about 50 at the mo!

SIZE 6 scorpio I dont even think my thigh is a size 6 oh well!

I have had the crappist couple of days the shit has hit the fan at work so we are making 6 people redundant I know who they are and they dont people keep asking me whats going on and do I know anything then go to pick DS up this evening from nursery and they have put his new boden coat in the washing machine as it got muddy I think the must have put it on a boil wash or something as its shrunk and where its a puffer style one and the fibres have shrunk it looks like someone has had a razer at it I could have cried I said I wanted them to pay for it and they all ummed ans ahhed then said I need to speak to the manager tomorrow and did i want them to dry it for me I told them to do what the bloody liked with it as my DS woulnt be wearing it again! I got home and cried

Also I am now quite worried that bubba has measured sooo big I am measuring 6 weeks bigger than dates is anyone else measuring big???

chipmonkey · 06/02/2008 00:35

Happy birthday rainbowdays!
Oh, Peachy sorry you have to take iron, I hate taking iron for all the usual reasons!
paranoid, sorry you had such a crap time at the hospital.

PortAndLemon · 06/02/2008 08:04

paranoid, can you afford to get a private scan? (I know the NHS ought to be doing it but it might give you some reassurance / information while you prepare to kick sense into them)

TLSM -- I was measuring 5 weeks ahead throughout pregnancy last time. Last time they checked this time I was measuring 3 weeks ahead, which I think of as pretty small for me . If you keep measuring 6 weeks ahead they'll refer you for a growth scan, probably.

scorpio1 · 06/02/2008 09:25

TLSM - Millie is measuring slighty big too, i dont know how she is supposed to stay in there for another 9 weeks!!

I havent felt her move yet today....normally do now. will go and poke her soon!

TLSM · 06/02/2008 09:31

Morning All P&L I have a growth scan at 34 weeks anyway I dont mind him being a bruiser just a bit pissed that I have bought so many newborn clothes with Max i found at 7lb 8oz the 0-3 months clothes were far too bug so this time i though right buy a lot more newborn nevermind good thing is they all still have their tags on them so wont wash them ready only a few bits then it he is a tank I can just pop them all on ebay!

Scorpio I would try either chocolate or a really cold drink they all ways get this one going

SuzeM · 06/02/2008 10:18

Paranoidmummy, sorry you had a bad time at the hospital. A second opionion sounds like a very good idea.

Molly, I am that your friend is giving you a Bugaboo. My dad is buying the pushchair as a present but he'll have a heart attack if I tell him the price of the Bugaboo!

Sheds75 · 06/02/2008 10:46

Morning All, PM hope you are feeling a bit less stressed today and have written a nice letter the the MW explaining your thoughts

My mum is visiting this weekend for a baby shopping girls day out, am really looking forward to it. DP and I have picked out the "MY3 www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B00116V3NK/sr=1-4/qid=1202294708/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n =42805041&mcb=core but not sure mum likes it, and as she is paying ! could be interesting

Sheds75 · 06/02/2008 10:47

OOps didn't quite get the link right , must need more coffee

EllieG · 06/02/2008 10:59

paranoidmummy - that's really crap. Hope your nice midwife at GP surgery is more helpful. Vent all you like here hon x

No one has given me anything yet though have been hinting muchly. Work are getting me sterilizer and bottles cos they asked what I wanted and I told them and I think my pals are clubbing together and getting babygym and mothercare vouchers. They were originally going to buy me 'some lovely little outfits from monsoon' til I told them very politely that expensive babyclothes were a lovely gesture but I had so many essentials to get would rather have vouchers. I think they think having a baby is like having a doll, bless 'em.

tlsm - at the stupid nursery - make sure you stand your ground and get them to pay for it.

Was awake most of last night - if baby isn't wriggling or headbutting me, then my ribs hurt or hips hurt and my skin is itching like CRAZY and keeps me awake. Does anyone else have this? I know is common but is dead annoying - I just want to sit in a bath of calomine lotion.

OP posts:
EllieG · 06/02/2008 11:02

That looks great sheds. Am bit worried - my system doesn't have a lying flat option - is the baby going to be horribly harmed or it's growth stunted or something?

Was planning on having her in sling most of time but she's obviously not flat in that either - does it matter?

OP posts:
KnitterInTheNW · 06/02/2008 11:03

The disposable 'briefs' I got yesterday aren't big enough for me ,would any of you lovely ladies like the other 4 pairs, box says to fit 112-117 cm or 44-46 inch hip? They're elasticated round the leg holes, that's where my downfall was. Let me know if they're any use to any of you & I'll bung em in the post. They're all individually wrapped so you'll be able to tell they've not been tried on!

I've got a MW appt later and hoping she'll be able to tell me how big jumior is, although I've got a growth scan next wed anyway.

EllieG · 06/02/2008 11:10

I think I will be a bit chunky round the legs meself for them, so will leave them for one of our slimmer-thighed ladies!

OP posts:
SuzeM · 06/02/2008 11:11

EllieG, I had really itchy arms and legs last week. E45 lotion helped.

Sheds75 · 06/02/2008 11:13

Ellie, I know what you mean about lack of sleep I'm knackered, have you tried E45 itch relief cream? works wonders for me. Sorry can't help on the lie flat issue, first timer so just following others advice.

EllieG · 06/02/2008 11:15

Ta - have remembered have some E45 cream am off to go and sit in it in a minute

Morning all. Yep, I´m still around although was not at work last week or this week because I´m getting over the mumps of all things. Still not quite sure how I managed to get them as none of the kids at school have them & I had it as a kid so shouldn´t really get it again. Everything is fine with Sam & I must admit it´s been lovely to just be at home. DH brought some baby clothes back from England so have been sorting those out and getting all gooey

We´ve also been offered a nearly new pushchair with baby car seat & pram attachment, which is brill as that´s even less money we´ve got to fork out.

I haven´t had a chance to go through all your messages so hope you are all OK. Hope everything sorts itself out for you paranoid . Well shall love you and leave you all for now, but will try & catch up with you all at the end of the week.

scorpio1 · 06/02/2008 11:35

poor you ellie hope it gets better soon. i LOVE baby monsoon clothes but they are £££ and you could prob get similar in next for a third of the price. may ask mum and dad for outfit whe nshe is born.

Millie has moved amazing how i worried so quick

MW a week today, i wonder what my iron levels were? last time they were 14.8
