Afternoon everyone,

By absolute coincidence, I woke this am with a cold as well Teabelly. I am thinking evil thoughts towards all friends and family who have visited lately with bad colds. I am feeling v. sorry for myself and am deciding what chocolate we (me and bump)need to compensate.

Uwila - congrats on telling the boss. Hope they were supportive. I told mine last week and he was really great. Actually, his wife guessed I had been pgt already as I had rung him up from hosp virtually in tears when I had my D&C. Trust a woman to guess, even third hand!!

teabelly · 08/12/2004 16:03

Jonah that's women for you ! anyway in my experience male bosses tend to shy away from anything that's vaguely personal Grin And your talk of chocolate has got me thinking now, hmmmm, may have to go out on a sweetie run!!

MrsWednesday · 08/12/2004 16:27

Sorry girls, I've been stuck in traffic on the M1 for most of the day! And now I've got loads of work to do...sigh.

I am sooooooooooo uncomfortable today - I'm wearing a long skirt and tights, both pulled up over my bump and they aren't maternity stuff so I feel like I'm being cut in half. Can't wait to go home and put my pyjamas on! Will definitely be going maternity clothes shopping next week - sod Christmas presents for everyone else.

Will catch up with you all later, I really must get on with some work.

Scraggyaggy · 08/12/2004 18:00

Hello,

Sweetheart - I did wonder where you'd gone!!

Have been in meetings all day and am now abolutely exhausted. Sadly, I did not make it to TopShop as I completely lost my bearings on Oxford St what with all the crowds!! Will have to do some sale shopping when we meet up in Jan.

MrsW - Do NOT wear tights under any cirumstances! I made this mistake a few weeks ago and made myself terribly ill!! I think you need proper maternity tights..

I need a swimsuit. Anyone got any ideas as to how to cover up? The MD of our financial services co has paid for us all to go for a hydrotherapy, massage and relaxation evening, as an Xmas present on Monday. Trouble is, no-one at work knows yet, and the evening is when my belly is at it's largest!! I did think about starvation for the day, but I wouldn't be able to hack it! My swimsuit makes me look 6 months pregnant and my bikinis make me look like Vicki Pollard out of Little Britain (although I am not blonde). Help!! any suggestions??

LipstickMum · 08/12/2004 18:41

Scraggy, you may need to check that some of the treatments you are having are ok during the first trimester, are you still in that? I went to a spa a couple days after I did my pg test and couldn't do anything!! No sauna, steam room or spa obviously, but also no flotation pool, which was the main aim of the day. The spa had a policy of no aromatherapy to pg women, even though certain types are safe.

Where's Tessibear?? Haven't seen her posting for a few days??

LipstickMum · 09/12/2004 08:53

Morning everyone! Thought I'd get this bumped up to start the Thursday chat ball rolling Grin
Off for tea and toast and Balamory with dd...

megi · 09/12/2004 10:51

hi everyone! Another day at home for me. Took dd back to doctors this morning and she has a urine infection for certain. She is on antibiotics til she sees the paedriatrician and possibly longer. She is better in herself - but her temperature needs constant monitoring. Day 2 curled up on the sofa here we come!
Hope everyone else is ok!

MrsWednesday · 09/12/2004 12:37

Afternoon ladies. Busy day for me, but only because I'm trying to get all my work sorted before I have a week off (yippee!). Have told a couple of people at work that I'm pregnant today and both of them said they'd already guessed because I look healthier than usual - must be the lack of red wine and all those early nights! I think they were just being polite by not mentioning the size of my belly.

Scraggyaggy, you are so right about the tights. Never EVER again. Feeling much happier today in low rise jeans and long top (thank god I can wear jeans at work!).

Hope everyone is having a good day - Megi I hope your dd is better soon.

thelollipoplady · 09/12/2004 13:07

Afternoon everyone, sorry have been v lax in not posting for ages - just waiting till my first scan to find out dates and things. turns out i'm due 25th june, so that makes me only 11 weeks pregnant... and i still have a fat tummy. thank goodness all these smock tops are in at the moment, i raided topshop (non-maternity) and have found a few that should cover me up for a while.

Anyone else feeling completely different with their second pregnancy? I can't believe how well I feel. Last time (DD now 2) I was sick for the whole of the first 3 months, and felt exhausted all the time. This time round, not a twinge of morning sickness, and apart from a lousy cold which I can't take anything for, I feel great. Does this mean I'm having a boy this time, or am I just lucky?

Uwila · 09/12/2004 14:14

I feel pretty much the same this time. I think the morning sickness is better this time (although it wasn't bad last time), but migraines seem to be a bit worst. BUt, I am hopefully leaving those behind in the first trimester, like last time. I think the biggest difference fo me is my approach to choices I have. Last time I just did what the midwives suggested. And this time I know what I want and will resist being persuaded otherwise (like declaring at 5 weeks that I wasn't going to the hospital in whose catchment I live (St. Peters in Chertsey)).

So, has everyone had their booking in appointments?

OP posts:
MrsWednesday · 09/12/2004 14:28

Hello again lollipoplady. Have you survived without feeling exhausted as well? If so I reckon you are just very, very lucky Grin. I'm feeling pretty much the same as I did with my DS, with a little bit more sickness. So perhaps I'm having a girl this time and you're having a boy?

Uwila, still no booking in appointment for me - it's next Monday. Then I've got another scan on Tuesday - this is the NHS one supposedly at 12 weeks (I'll be 14-15 weeks then).

Uwila · 09/12/2004 15:09

What? How can you have a 12 week scan at 14-15 weeks??? I take it thi is not a nuchal scan.

OP posts:
MrsWednesday · 09/12/2004 15:35

No, not a nuchal scan (had to pay for that). It's just the one the NHS provide in my area (I get another at 20 weeks), supposedly at 12 weeks. I did ask for an early scan bearing in mind previous history, thinking that would be early in the first trimester, not the second.

Lua · 09/12/2004 15:48

Hi All,
I had a miserable night... Though I had quicked the cold from last week, but it came back on my sinus and gave me a bad tothache Sad. Saw the dentist, who told me was sinus. Need to talk with GP now, but really don't want to take antibiotics, and don't think there is anything else that can help, is there?
Hope you all are doing better than me!!

JonahB · 09/12/2004 17:53

hi all,

I agree with you all - tights are a terrible idea. I thought my jeans were uncomfortable till I tried spending a night in tights. I was under the vain hope that the only part of my body still under some semblence of normality were my legs, so why not show them off. First and last time.

I'm quite lucky in that I work from a home office, so unless I'm visiting customers, I dont have the same problems many of you do with work clothes. Tracksuit bottoms for me!!!!!!!

Sorry you are feeling poorly, Lua. Can't offer you any suggestions as this is my first time, but I do hope you're feeling better soon. Toothache is so horrid.

LipstickMum · 09/12/2004 18:36

I have a question Blush Is anyone experiencing any 'movement' yet? I'm not talking about the discernable prods and kicks you feel later, just general, I don't know, rumblings. I'm coming up to 12 weeks and I often feel undulations and rolling around. I passed it off as something else entirely, but maybe not??? Wondered if anyone else has the same..?

Lua · 09/12/2004 19:05

I swear I have felt the baby move, but it hasn't been consistent. So sometimes I think is just wishful thinking... I am 15 weeks though...
12 weeks seems to be in the early side of feeling. But they do say second mothers notice earlier...

berolina · 09/12/2004 19:05

Hi there everyone. Just had a looooong day - taught from 8 till two, then a break, then department meeting from 4 to 7.30. Feel pretty fit though, bizarrely - usually I'm half comatose by now.

What does everyone think of Emilia? This is our current fave for a girl. Middle names: Anna Margarete. As I said, Alexander for a boy, middle name prob Michael.

What's the problem with tights? I'm still wearing my non-mat ones, despite nice round bump, and feeling fine in them. Or maybe mine are just all so old and saggy that they're fine :)

Got a scan tomorrow!!! It's an 'extra' one I'm paying for (I've paid 100 euro and for that am getting one in week 16, ie now, and one in week 24, overand above the others). Am soooo nervous - terrified we'll discover the baby's died. :(

LipstickMum · 09/12/2004 19:09

Lua, I'm quite happy to believe it's not, but it's just such an unusual feeling in that area. A nice feeling I hasten to had.

MrsWednesday · 09/12/2004 21:38

I've had a few pops and strange rumblings in my tummy but I think it may have been wind! With my DS I didn't feel anything until really late (I'm sure it was after 20 weeks) so I hope it's a lot earlier this time round.

Sorry you are feeling so rough Lua, it sounds horrible.

Berolina, everything will be FINE at your scan tomorrow, I'm sure of it. Good luck though - I think it's impossible to not to worry really (just good practice for all the worry that comes with being a parent).

Well, off to bed now I think. The tiredness is back, it only went away for a couple of days!

sweetheart · 10/12/2004 08:41

See - I knew that would happen!!! I have the day off and you lot go into chat overdrive!!!!! Lets just hope your all feeling as chatty today as I have a very long very boring day ahead of me!!!!!

Scraggy - could you perhaps try wearing a sarong to your work thing? Alternativly hust keep moaning about how your periods due and your feeling really bloated - hopefully if you say something first they won't suspect????

Lipstick - I've had similar feelings in my stomach but as I'm only 10 weeks I'm putting it down to wind Blush I think 12 weeks is probably too early to feel anything but you never know!?!?!?!?

Berolina - please don't worry about your scan too much. I was sure there was something wrong before I had mine, and although there was a scary 5 mins where they couldn't find anything, everything turned out to be fine. It's natural to worry BUT try not to get yourself too stressed - it's no good for your or the little bump Grin

Right everyone - let the chatting begin..................................

sweetheart · 10/12/2004 08:52

Oh also, I can totally sympathise with feeling uncomfortable!!!!

I've resorted to using hair bands on my jeans to give me a bit of extra room Blush

megi · 10/12/2004 09:11

What a good idea sweetheart - I've not heard of that - will have a try in a min!

I am going to have an exhausting afternoon - I am looking after my neighbour's twin 2 year olds! Along withh dd that should be fun - they are all getting really hyper now - and when they get together it is even worse.

Antibiotics have kicked in so dd is feeling much better! Smile

LipstickMum · 10/12/2004 09:34

Hi everyone! Thought I should post here and let of steam, before I posted something rude on another post Blush

Anyone ever get really irrate/annoyed about the seemingly pointless questions asked on here sometimes?? Everyone is entitled to their say but sometimes I just think "Jesus, if you can't make a decision about that, how the f*ck can you bring up a child???" Sorry, I'm being mean, but I wanted to rant here, rather than on some poor , unsuspecting person's innocent thread ~hangs head in shame~ Obviously have low tolerance today, better count to ten before I say anything to anyone!! In fact maybe better not go out at all!!

Feel so much better now the sickness is 90% gone!! Have marzipaned the cake ready for icing this weekend and today I'm going to make some sausage rolls Grin Also want to put up the tree this evening, everyone else got their tree up?

sweetheart · 10/12/2004 10:01

LM,

What thread are you talking about??????
