munkinsusie - how easy is it to make a lampshade? It looks as though I'm going to have to go down the handmade curtains route and it would be good to make a matching shade. Can you get the frames easily?
Baby seems to be an odd position this afternoon - feels very high and is pressing against my ribs - wonder if this means she's not breech anymore? Although I thought breech was the most uncomfortable position - I'm confused!!

leprechaun · 20/01/2005 21:36

Hi all,
Where do you all find the time for the computer? Am very impressed!
Gosh sounds like everyone is having the usual aches and pains of the latter stages. Its pretty shitty really. I am having great fun with sciatica, leg cramps and restless legs but apart from that I'm not too bad.
Only 6-8 weeks left. Am prepared if I go over like last time. I had to wait an extra 9 days to meet DD and it was horrendous. I don't know why they don't go by the date of week 42 instead. You can't help but focus on the date they give you and that bloody telephone just kept ringing with everyone wanting to know if a baby had arrived yet? No fun.

Londonmummy05- you should be trying to keep up with the old pelvic floor exercises as they really do make a difference. But if you are anything like me, I completely understand where you are coming from. I actually found it easier to do them after the baby arrived last time. the hospital gave me a list of different exercises to do which help tighten everything up there again. It was the first bit of info I think they gave me after the birth. Charming!

Does anybody know where I can get some of these hypnotherapy cd's I've been hearing about? I'm going to try the homebirth route this time and they sound quite good for keeping me calm and relaxed. That and plenty of entonox, of course.

Anybody got any other suggestions for relaxation and preparation for homebirths? All suggestions greatly appreciated.
My fingers are aching from all this typing so I shall say adieu for now. Try to get plenty of rest and 'me' time and just think in a few mere weeks we shall all hopefully have our new babies home with us and all the pain and discomfort will be a fading memory. Getting excited......

misdee · 21/01/2005 07:37

Hi

Well i ended up at hospital last night, my protein level was up on weds, and yesterday i had a pounding headache so i phoned to ask what to do and ended up spending 4hrs being checked over. Blood pressure is fine, protein has gone but headache still here. just got to take things easy, easier said than done really atm.

Gonna try and see if dh can drive today, so i can try and get the car fitted for car seats. even tho we may be changing it soon anyway lol. its gonna be virtually impossible to fit 3 seats easily into the back of out current car, so dh has phoned the mobility scheme (we lease a car thro them as dh is disabled) to see about changing it a lot earlier than normal. so we may get a brand new almera tino soon. yippee!!

sweeny, is your bed really 2000cm long? or 200?

i think 200cmx150cm is king size, so maybe superking size?

OP posts:
bonym · 21/01/2005 09:18

Misdee - bad news about the protein - how are you feeling now? Lol at the docs saying "take things easy" - do they have any idea what you have to contend with? Good news about the car though
Leprechaun - you get the hypntherapy cds here . I have the 4-cd home birth set but I would say that you would only need the preparation for labour one. The first one is for use before 30 weeks so too late for you, the music for labour one is ok but imo a bit like elevator music and I don't imagine I will use it during labour. The 4th one is for recovery after birth which I've not listened to yet - it may or may not be something which you would find useful. I will say though that the cds are very relaxing - On every occasion bar one I've fallen asleep listening to them!

Girly · 21/01/2005 13:08

Misdee, where are you based? I think I live not far from you, might end up on labour ward together!

I will have no3 at Hillingdon Hospital!

misdee · 21/01/2005 15:52

i'm in welwyn, am at the QE2 hospital.

i just spent about £100 on clothes for bubs and dd1+2. so much pink fluffy stuff in the sale lol.

Girly · 21/01/2005 17:33

Oh sorry misdee must have got you confused with someone else, I thought you were in Ruislip!

shalaa · 22/01/2005 11:35

Had ante-natal appointment and found out i'm 34wks pregnant not 33! Seem to have lost a week somehow but that's not suprising with my memory. Nursery almost finished and i've managed to buy just about everything baby will need for the next 2 years!

Also managed to embarass myself by falling flat on my back in the middle of a shop yesterday, people came over to see if I was ok and help me up, i've no sense of balance!

misdee · 22/01/2005 17:39

shalaa there is a week between my LMP date and scan date, so they are going by my LMP date, which puts me at 34 weeks. scan dates puts me at 35 weeks. i am secretly hoping its the scan date thats closer lol.

Month 5 particularly bad with terrible pain i my right hip breakdancing baby with it's head jammed in my intestinse! i was given Progesterone injections tp supple up uterus and stop the pain - great, but made me cry alot. I'm now chilling about whole thing and feeling generally much happier and less uncomfortable - although huge and all up front. Yes, back aches, i feel a bit puffy, very frustrated at not being so able and a spaghettii head!! Succombing to rest, a little yoga, stretching, and good warm scented batths v. good for the spirit. I'm having a natural birth and yes an epidural, 9 months and planning a new life in another country - i can live without added pain! My care here has been great although no antenatal yet. We have bought a few returnable goodies and will be ordering the bigger stuff next month baby room yet to be built. Can wait till B'day April 7th although end March in England - Hey Ho
It's great othere what hte rest of the world is up to. X

oceanmama · 24/01/2005 10:32

Hi everyone, another newbie here I'm 26, live in Berkshire, work as a neonatal nurse and am expecting baby #1 on March 5th. I've enjoyed pregnancy so far - am really looking forward to maternity leave in 2 weeks though! I'm also "borderline" gestational diabetic - going to hospital tomorrow for a scan to check the bub's growth and an appointment with one of the specialist midwives.

Ooh, and DH and I have kept it a surprise for our families, but we've been secretly buying pink things...

Leogaela · 24/01/2005 10:35

Hi all, I'm back!

Welcome & congratulations to Latwinkle1! How is your french or have you managed to find english speaking health care? where in France are you living?

I have just had a really great week holiday. DP has become DH!!!!! We did it very quietly, with his parents, my mum, aunt and uncle. Big party is coming later! It was very romantic though. We spent a week in a mountain village near Gstaad, just did a civil marriage - the guy did really well as he did it half in English and half Swiss-German. Then we took a horsedrawn sledge ride up the mountains and had lunch (just hot soup and mulled wine) in the freezing cold by a frozen lake. We were so lucky as we had fantastic weather that day, the rest of the week has been either snowing or raining really heavily! Finished off with a very niced dinner in a restaurant. Week only got stressful as MIL (who is 77) insisted on fussing over all of us and doing all the cooking which made me feel really guilty (but she got more stressed when I insisted on cooking one evening) and spending a week with 7 people that don't all have a language in common is not easy!

I am still feeling pretty well - same problems with aching and painful ribs, not sleeping well and coming back to work is really bad!!!! REading my emails has made me come out in a sweat, burst into tears and just feel really stressed! It's just normal stuff that wouldn't normally worry me, but I need a really easy life right now and I feel as if I am failing to mack my project even half a success and don't have the energy or focus to pull it back together!

I am also feeling very heavy and BIG! Its fine when I'm walking or sitting, but if I have to get out of bed or pick something up from the floor i can really feel it then!

As for everyone else... its nice to read all your news (alhtough I've only managed it briefly).

Misdee congratulations on the girl!!! Hope you are coping with everything else OK.

Where is Popsycal????

Pain! I am also pretending as much as I can that its not going to be that bad! Its only the last few weeks that people have started to let on how bad it can get! My Aunt was in so much pain giving birth to one of hers that my uncle believed that she was unconcious! They only resolved it this week (32 years later) that she was in so much pain that she couldn't move, speak or respond to anyone! I really appreciated being told that! Ho hum!

Sweeney, we ordered a new matress, its some kind of memory foam thing which doesn't have springs so you don't feel as if you are being swallowed up by it, it kind of moulds to the shape of your body. I hate sinky soft matresses, but I think our extra hard futon is not helping the hip pain, discomfort and sleeplessness at night (was more comfortable on holiday). I can't wait for the new matress to arrive!

We also finally have some baby stuff! Mum & Aunt brought us some stuff over from the UK, DH's sister has given us a cot and some toys, clothes etc... My mum has brought us a really lovely sleeping bag, coat type thing to put in the pushchair, its a very, very warm one but for 3 - 6 months. I have a feeling that its going to drown the baby when it will be cold after it's first born and I guess it will fit it properly in the middle of the summer when it won't need it. It really is lovely so I hope we can use it.

Pidge are you still working? Still cycling?

33 1/2 weeks now - but this baby IS coming a couple of weeks early!!!!

Leogaela · 24/01/2005 10:35

Oooh! that is a long one!

Pidge · 24/01/2005 13:37

Wow - it's been busy here all of a sudden. Hello to the new folk.

misdee - hope your headache has improved by now. Very jealous of your shopping exploits - suddenly I can't wait to find out the gender! We still can't agree on a boys name, and have borrowed yet another baby names book, and all this effort might be a complete waste if it's another dd!!

Leogaela - your holiday and getting wed sounds blissful. Yup, I'm still working and (just about) still cycling. I have 3.5 more weeks in the office, which will be 2 weeks before the due date. And as for the bike - I keep saying - one more day, and I'll quit if it ever feels terrible. Must admit it's getting hard work now, but probably still not as hard as it was in the first 3 months through morning sickness etc.

Leogaela · 24/01/2005 14:52

Congratulations Oceanmama! Another girl!!!

Pidge, we stil have the same feeling about the names as you! Really struggling with a boys name so maybe it would be better to know what it is so we may be able to stop struggling with it!
I am VERY impressed that you are still cycling!

PreggieMum · 24/01/2005 18:37

Hi everyone,
Just had my 34/35 week scan to check on babies kidneys. Everything seems okay-ish, but they want to scan again after the baby is born to make sure def okay, as there is still some fluid on one of the kidneys.
Sonographer confirmed that definately having a girl, so am now buying a few pink clothes.

I'm now booked in for a c-section on the 22 Feb assuming she doesn't decide to try and make an appearance before then!!

bonym · 24/01/2005 18:59

Hi everyone - welcome to you newbies and welcome back Leogaela - glad you had a wonderful time - all sounds fab. I can't believe you're still cycling Pidge - you must be the fittest of all of us and I take my hat off to you (well, I would if I was wearing one ).
Preggiemum - looks like you're going to be the first of us to give birth then - maybe we should banish you to the Feb thread (as if we would!) And yet another girl! I keep worrying now that the sonographer got it wrong - not that I would mind a boy, just that we're all geared up for a girl now. I've heard of 2 people now who were told that they were having girls and ended up with boys!
My mum's friend is a reflexologist so she came over this morning and gave me a session - it was soooo relaxing. She's going to come every 2 weeks - I read somewhere that regular sessions at this stage can help make labour easier - I'm trying everything I can to make it as easy a poss. as really want to try to avoid drugs this time (well, if home birth goes according to plan I won't be able to have them anyway!)

munchkinsusie · 25/01/2005 10:16

hi everyone.
just a short message cause my hand is too sore to type. i think i've got carpel tunnel syndrome - it's worst at night but is bad this morning as well. it means my right wrist, elbow and hand are really sore (my left is sore too but not as bad as my right - the book says it's normally your domanant side which gets it worst). the book says it's to do with your wrist swelling up and compressing the nerves in your wrist. has anyone else got this? i think i might have to ring the midwife and ask for advice because it's really bothering me.

sweeney · 25/01/2005 12:43

that sounds horrible munchkinsusie! i don't have it thank goodness. plenty of other things though. i didn't expect expectancy to be so darn uncomfortable

Leogaela · 25/01/2005 13:12

Wow! that's lots of people having girls so far! does anyone know that they are having a boy yet?

Misdee, I just realised that this is your 3rd girl! How does dh feel about being so outnumbered?!

The reflexology sounds nice Bonym. i am going for acupuncture to try to help with the birth, also starting some sessions before. I heard it is also supposed to be possible to use reflexology & accupunture to induce the birth, so hopefully it will prevent us from going overdue!

I don't know anything about carpal tunnel syndrome at all.

Congrats Preggimum on getting your CS date!!! I wonder which of us will be the last! Will they be posting on this thread alone??????

sweeney · 25/01/2005 22:11

when are we all due again?
i'm 20th march and waiting for a surprise whether girl or boy

misdee · 25/01/2005 22:13

dh is feeling very outnumbered, even the dog is a girl lol.

am due 4th march.

OP posts:
Pidge · 26/01/2005 09:19

I guess it's down to us surprise packages to produce some boys for this thread!

I'm due 2nd March, but dd was 8 days late, so not holding my breath!!!

Leogaela · 26/01/2005 09:20

Due 12th March.
I only need to ask the doctor if its a boy or girl, but at the moment would prefer to keep it as a surprise!
