Gosh - all has been quiet on this thread. Hope everyone is ok.

We had a night away in a hotel in Suffolk at the weekend with dd staying at MIL's (this was my Christmas present to dp!). It was blissful - we managed heavenly pub lunches on both Saturday and Sunday, a fairly reasonable walk on Saturday afternoon, a wonderful meal on Saturday evening and of course a lie in in the morning. And an enormous cooked breakfast, which we had to follow up with another walk, because we were truly stuffed. So generally a fine weekend of over-eating!

Back at work again - 5 more weeks to go in the office, less than 7 till due date. All beginning to seem a bit more real now.

Boneym - sadly Made in Water have run out of the inflatable pools again (I think this happened in December too?), so I have opted to hire one from Splashdown. Serves me right for being disorganised and leaving everything till the last minute!

munchkinsusie · 17/01/2005 14:19

hi all,
only another four weeks of work to go, eight weeks till due date! i can't believe how quickly the time is going!
we've decided to go away for a long weekend. we're going to stay in a lovely self catering cottage with sea views. no major plans except to relax and spend time together and get some fresh air. i'm really looking forward to it. the big bonus is that we're taking the friday and monday off work, so my last three weeks at work will be four day weeks which sounds really good!
we finally got the nursery started this weekend. the cot is up and other furniture is in the room. still got the curtains and other finishing touches to do - but it's so nice to have it started!!
hope you're all doing well.

sweeney · 17/01/2005 15:52

hello everyone
that break away sounds like a great idea munchkinsusie. might give that a go myself!
we've put our flat on the market and it's looking in really good shape. hopefully we'll get some offers in soon. we've also made an offer on a house which is lovely. we'll have to see how things progress.
had midwife appt this morning and all is well. baby lying across me but midwife said not to even think about worrying . last time i went head was in pelvis so at least baby knows where it should end up in the end.
we ordered bugaboo and car seat yesterday and have baby bjorn and other bits and pieces. we are getting the global bedside bed cot so baby can be with us or in the bed. is anyone else doing this?
it really is getting close. i'm 31 wks and 2 days today. EXCITING SCAREY OR WOT!!!!

shalaa · 19/01/2005 14:21

God my back is killing me! My lower back keeps going into spasm and crapping, also my bum gets crap so bad it's sore for the rest of the day. Been to the doctor but there's nothing they can do, great. Other than that i'm due in just over 6wks! The nursery is almost done, and we have more baby gear and clothes then could ever be needed. Feeling nervous and excited, can't believe i'm going to be holding my baby soon!

Girly · 19/01/2005 14:46

Pidge

I have an inflatable pool from Made In Water, it is unused and for sale as I can no longer have the homebirth I had planned due to having developed asthma after a bad bout of pnuemonia two weeks ago.

It is still in the original couriers pack, unopened. I was going to return it to Made in water, so CAT me if you want it! Or email me @ info @ bellescouches co uk fill in the dots where approp!, this is my work email addy

Girly xx Gutted due to no HB

Pidge · 19/01/2005 15:12

Girly - that is such a wonderful offer - and spookily I just got an email from Made In Water saying that they now have a few pools on offer too. Unfortunately in the meantime I have agreed to rent one from Splashdown ... they're supposed to be sending me an invoice. It is more expensive, so let me find out if I'm committed. Suddenly pools are everywhere!

Poor you about the homebirth - the pneumonia must have been terribly worrying. Did you have asthma before? I have asthma and the only time I've been hospitalised with it was after a terrible chest infection, so I know how careful you have to be.
Hope you're feeling much much better.

sweeney · 19/01/2005 17:07

ladies
can anyone recommend where i should post to ask about mother baby groups in the Bath area?
thanks!

misdee · 19/01/2005 18:17

hello.

well i;ve had a fun day.

had a groweth scan this morning, where i asked the sex of the baby and they told me what i was having.

urine test shows a + of protein so its been sent to lab for further checks. then this afternoon they messed up my appt toally. i was meant to be seeing my consultant and diabetes team. my consultant didnt have clinic today, and no diabetes team are in till next week so a major cock up happened when last appt was made. so i have change consultants so i got seen today, everything seems fine, growth scan ok. so am quite happy.

but have anti=d jab next week on monday, diabetes check up on weds, then the following week another growth scan and consultant appointment.

sweeney - try meet-ups maybe?
We had new carpet fitted in nursery today so the room is looking all clean and fresh (dh painted it a couple of weeks back) but very bare as there is nothing in it yet! Wardrobe and dresser should be arriving on Friday and then we need to get the cot down from the loft. I am having real trouble deciding on curtains/bedding though. As we have longer than standard windows, most of the curtains from the co-ordinated ranges are too short. I do like Next's Hush range which is all pink and girly and they have extra-long curtains, but I don't really want to tempt fate - what if the sonographer got it wrong and it's actuallly a boy?
Watched a water birth on Discovery Health earlier and am now starting to get scared about the labour - maybe I'm being too optimistic thinking I'll be able to cope with a home birth with only a pool for pain relief. I can remember that feeling of not being able to cope with the pain and being really scared Help!! . Is anyone else getting nervous?

bonym · 19/01/2005 18:18

Oh misdee - don't keep us in suspense! Aren't you going to tell?

Congratulatiions! Another March girly - lovely. I guess at this stage they must be 100% certain of the sex - unlike when we were told at 20 week scan - oh well, if mine turns out to be a boy I'll have to let you have the gorgeous little dresses I've already bought .

Pidge · 20/01/2005 09:24

misdee - get sales shopping now! I haven't even managed to dig out dd's old baby clothes from the loft yet - must get myself organised.

boneym - yup - I am very worried about this - could no way have managed last time round, as the pain was utterly out of control, dd was posterior, the labour took 3 days and I ended up with an epidural. So feeling a bit mad to be attempting it at home with just water, gas and air to help. Gulp. But I am hoping that a) it will be quicker, b) the baby will be the right way round, so less excruciating, and c) I'm more prepared for the level of pain, whereas last time I was absolutely blown away by it. Oh and hopefully I'll be more relaxed at home. Are you doing any special preparations for a homebirth?

Girly - I have emailed you about the pool.

Sweeney - definitely try the meetups here. I also found my local NCT group brilliant for organising tea parties - I know not everyone gets on with them, but I was really lucky and met some lovely people. Also my health visitor organised a mums and babies group, which was good for at least getting out of the house!

Londonmummy05 · 20/01/2005 11:21

Hi girls, how are you all? I've ad a rubbish couple of weeks, after my cold which ended last week I still ahve a cough and I think I coughed so mcuhthat I have a hairline fracture in my rib! My left side really hurts and on Monday I coughed really hard and it clicked- I've never been in so much pain ( but sure I will be in a few weeks ) I went to an osteopath who really helped, it still hurts when I cough but not as bad now. Finally feeling a bit human again. I guess it's pay back for having such an easy time for most of my pregnancy. I'm getting much bigger it;s so funny now I'm quite petite so look like an oompa loompa ( so dh kindly tells me ) We've had the mural painted in the nursery in a disney theme which look great, we haven't bought anything yet though ( dh won't let me) We've been given one of those swing cribs, dh's uncle was viviting over christmas for a week and bought one for his baby tp use while here, so it's only been used for a few days! I wanted to get the whole matching nursery set with changing table cot etc but at least we don't have to decide straightaway and can use this in the meantime. I've been making shopping lists on the mothercare and 2rightfeet websites, most things only take 2 days to come so we have time. Only to go it;s so weird, and if baby comes early it could only be 4 weeks. SO worried haven't been doing my pelvic floors! will I be incontinent for ever?
Are you guys just buying newborn baby grows? We don't know the sex, so going for white and might buy one blue and one pink to take to hospital and then return one after Do we need long sleeves or short or both? My midwife is going to give me a list so hopefully will now soon, are yoo happy with your bugaboo sweeney? That's what we're going for too, what colour did you get? is it easy to collapse?
xxx

Londonmummy05 · 20/01/2005 11:22

only 6 weeks to go! Sorry missed out number.
xx

munchkinsusie · 20/01/2005 11:48

hi girls,
i can't say i'm worried about the pain yet. that's probably due to two things 1) i'm in denial about the whole birth bit and 2) even if i wasn't i don't think i can imagine what it's going to be like! at least i'm planning on being in hospital so can either go down the waterbirth route or the epidural route.
has anyone else had swelling yet? my hands, wrists, knees, ankles and feet have been swollen since monday evening. it's very uncomfortabe. the most annoying bit is that the middle finger of my right hand has been going numb every now and then, and my right hand is all tingly and sore right now. i know it's a normal side effect of pregnancy (and my blood pressure has always been great so i don't think it's anything serious) but is it supposed to go on for days on end?
bonym - i've got a really big long window in my nursery as well so we gave up trying to find ready made childrens curtains and have instead found some nice teddy bear material to make some out of. it's not that difficult a task really - although i am lucky that my mum has actually offered to do it for me! my problem is trying to find a lightshade - i want one with teddies on to match the curtains but can't find any at the moment. anyone come across any?

bonym · 20/01/2005 11:52

Londonmummy - despite having all dd's old clothes, I have bought some newborn babygros and vests - when I had dd I just bought 0-3 mths ones as I was trying to economise and they were huge on her! Although they were ok, I thought this one should have some clothes that fit from the word go! . You will need longsleeve babygros and shortsleeve vests (bodysuits) ime - dd was born in April and this is what I had for her - if it was too warm then the vests on their own were fine.
Had another osteopath appointment this morning - I am finding the aches and pains have lessened since I saw her last week. She said most pg women don't realise that although osteopathy can't work miracles when you're pg, at least you don't have to suffer as much! I actually slept for 6hours solid last night which I haven't done for weeks now, and don't feel quite so old-lady like when I get out of bed.
Pidge - to try to lessen the pain of labour I also bought natal hypnotherapy cd's which Pupuce recommended on another thread. Don't know if they will have any effect but they certainly relax me - I'm always asleep before the cd has finished and am so relaxed I then struggle to wake up! Was almost late picking dd up from schooll the other day!

muchkinsusie - have just looked on ebay for you (can you tell I've finished work and have time on my hands? ) there is a teddy lampshade for sale here - not sure if it's what you're looking for? Also, Next have nice one here

ZoeC · 20/01/2005 12:55

Hi everyone,

Pidge - I had what sounds like the same labour experience as you first time round and I'm hoping for home birth this time - I figure it can't be any longer or worse (I hope!). Besides, you can change your mind halfway through and go in for an epidural if you want to so worth giving it a go I'd say!

Londonmummy - ouch for your rib, sounds painful. Hope it gets better in time for labour. My dh says I look like Boo off where's boo. I think he's forgotten about the oompah loompahs!

Feeling quite organised now - 8 weeks to go and dd is in a bed so the cot is free, she's potty trained so I'll only have one in nappies (days at least ) and I've sorted through all dd's clothes, plus some my friend gave me, so I truly cannot justify buying any more (pity!). They're all hanging up ready though which is exciting! Just waiting on my delivery of teeny cloth nappies for prewashing and I'll be there!! Finishing work 2 weeks ago has done me the power of good I think

Pidge · 20/01/2005 13:59

ZoeC - I feel the same really and the hospital is only 5 minutes away if need be. One minute I feel all excited, and almost looking forward to the labour, the next minute I come over all scaredy. Last time I was very relaxed, as I couldn't believe it could be that bad, and it came as a terrible shock!! So this time, I'm almost trying to be a bit less chilled out in the hope that it will be better than I fear .

Bed for dd arrives next Friday, then we are away for the weekend, so suddenly it's getting rather closer to the arrival of the baby than I'd anticipated for moving her.

Londonmummy - that sounds really painful. Ouch. Hope you feel better soon.

Although I feel like I've been pregnant forever, I still can't believe the time is nearly here when we're all going to be producing those babies!

munchkinsusie · 20/01/2005 15:44

thanks bonym - although neither are quite what i was looking for. i think what i might end up doing is making one from what's left of the curtain material. that'll have the added bonuses of being both cheap and a perfect match!

ZoeC - i'm jelous of you not being at work. although i really enjoy what i do, i'm finding it more and more tiring just being in at work. and now that my legs are all swollen and tired it's getting worse. i've got another three weeks at work before i said i'd stop which i'd really like to be able to do. i can't wait till i can sit at home and put my feet up, and just potter getting everything ready.

sweeney · 20/01/2005 17:55

hiya
good to hear all these stories, happy and uncomfortable alike. i've had a cough for bloomin weeks and my hips continually trouble me although the quilt underneath advice eased it a bit. ordered bedside cotbed on tues night and it was delivered today, serice or what! baby world are v good for speed. also got a supersize nursing pillow which looks great. i need to get to a new mattress for our bed any advice???? it's 160cms wide by 2000cms long, so quite big.
really don't know much about the bugaboo except it ticked alot of boxes and looks nice. we've gone for the navy blue, don't know whether we havin boy or girl but liked that colour the best and girls do wear blue afterall! i am now. i hate getting caught up in all that colour stuff but somehow can't help it. my dp looks gorgeous in a pink shirt.www.mumsnet.com/te/4.gif
