Anyone else due in August 2005 yet?

Well, I can't believe I'm starting this thread, but very happy to be. I'm due August 1st (according to one of those online due date calculators) and ds and dd were both over a week late, so I reckon it will be an August babe. Here's hoping. Still very early days for me, and I have an early scan to get done as I had an ectopic pregnancy in March this year.

Looking forward to someone joining me.

Hi Everyone.Have just found mumsnet and have been reading all your posts so felt I ought to join in too(I'm supposed to be working but I can't concentrate). I reckon I'm due about 4th August, I'm dreadful at keeping a record of periods and the pregnancy is not planned though very welcome. I have my first appointment with the midwife tomorrow. This is my third child, the older two are 7 & 4 which brings me to my question - has any one considered home birth or experienced one in a previous pregnancy? My lastlabour was very fast and I made it to the hospital with only 5 minutes to spare. I have this awful vison of giving birth in the back of a car enroute.

A few of you are mentioning aches and pains as well as stress and anxiety try antenatal yoga classes (though not until 12 weeks) I find it really helpful and am counting the days until I can start up again (i have been practising for about 18months now and it has helped with really severe backpain ie the stuck in bed unable to move kind).

Anyway enough I think for an introductory message. Congratulations everyone, Happy NEw Year and Good Luck.

Azure · 06/01/2005 12:49

Welcome and congratulations Jellybrain (love the name, btw). No personal experience of a fast labour, unfortunately. I did antenatal yoga last time, from around 22 weeks, and found it very relaxing.

Morgan · 06/01/2005 12:52

Hi Jellybrain and congrats. I have been doing yoga for a year and am looking forward to carrying on during pregnancy this time.

wilbur · 06/01/2005 16:42

Been away in Wales for New Year and tried to read all the posts Ive missed since before Xmas, but don't think I got them all!

Teatime - sorry about your fibroid and having to wait for the next scan, got everything crossed for you and I'm sure it will be fine. At my early scan the scanner said my grain of rice looked more like 5 wks than 6+ but the difference at that point must be so tiny, how can they tell?

Welcome jellybrain and congrats! I'm going for my booking in next Monday and want to talk to them about homebirth - last 2 births were a bit dramatic due to fast labour and panicky staff, so I'd love a calmer one this time. I'll have a fight on my hands though as I have a complicated medical history - nothing terrible, just loads of stuff to go through which makes the medical folk nervous! (I def get my money's worth from the NHS, ha ha).

Been feeling really sick over Xmas , far worse than with previous pregs and I got myself in a complete state last night saying I couldn't cope and would never feel well again. Sightly less drama queeny today...

Hope everyone else is feeling okay and having a good New Year so far.

hi jellybrain, welcome aboard! i too have fast scary labours, but i still dont think i want one at home..i need to be away from everyone for abit in hospital or i might feel like i should get up and do things- like tidy up!!! my labours have been getting shorter and shorter.(but i have to say more and more painful as they got quicker)last one just a few hours, tho midwife has warned me not to assume they all get shorter cause they dont always!
teatime, i'm sorry the u/s wasnt more helpful, lets hope the 19th is here before you know it and thats more informative for you.
antenatal yoga? oh i dont know, wont everyone else but graceful and slimmer? i dont know...... but if you do talk me into it, how do i go about finding a class?
hereshoping, you realise your beetroot sandwiches nearly made me heave here!?? i'm so sick feeling, any 'wrong' food around me makes me feel GREEN! agree cooking for family is nightmare now, cant bear the smell of the fridge, or most things i cook actually..ugh...
most nights everyone has to eat what i fancy. last night got away with with soup and bread, tonight as i fancy rice pudding it might not be so easy!

bluestar · 06/01/2005 20:33

Hi Jellybean - My first pg was a very quick labour 36mins from 3cm to birth so will be a bit concerned nearer the time that I make it to hospital! My dr has already said we will need to discuss this but I would still prefer to go to hospital.
Teatime, will be thinking of you on the 19th.
MissChief, let's just say my over-indulgence of more than Christmas belly has now firmed up and the 7 week bump is in hiding! Thankfully it's winter and you can cover up for a bit!

Spacecadet · 06/01/2005 21:27

I have been waking at 5 in the morning feeling really sick!!! dont want to get up ion the morning, but 5 month old dd and 3 year old ds have other ideas, at least the elder 2 10 and 13 can sort themselves out.Teatime, in my last preg i went to the epu with bleeding under the impression that I was 7 weeks, however the scan just showed a little sac which was more 5 weeks and no heartbeat as there isnt want till 6, I had to wait an agonising 10 days for a repeat scan, which on that occassion showed a 6 week, 6 day little dot!! the relief, so please try not to worry, you could have conceived later in your cycle than you thought.

KMS · 06/01/2005 21:31

TeaTime-thanks for letting us all know, and I am sorry that you didn't get that reasuring picture. Hope the 19th comes round quickly and you get to see a great big heartbeat.

my labours are also pretty fast. 1st was 5 hrs and induced, 2nd 4 hrs of esablished labour and the last was 2.5 hrs from 1st contraction! I have considered a home birth as I have wanted a water birth with all 3 and didn't get anywhere near any water. i wouldn't mind having a home waterbirth if I could then go into hospital for a rest! The time to recover without having to be there for the other 3 and the house work and washing! just for a night!

TeaTime · 07/01/2005 08:40

Just a quickie to 'check in' and say thanks folks. Just spotting yesterday which was a relief and a surprise as I was on my feet for 2 hours (yes, I'm a lecturer - you guessed Eulalia!) and felt rather weak and had abdominal pain - feared the worst but all seems OK - feet straight up when I got home and early night! A lightish day today luckily but dreading the coming term as I'll be teaching much more than last term which means non-stop pressure / preparation etc. In a dilemma whether to say anything as I'd much rather no one knew ANYTHING if it all goes pear-shaped (rather how I feel actually!). Will keep mum till after next scan I think. I feel like everything is a day at a time at the moment.
Amazed at the fast labour stories - my only experience was prolonged and unbelievable agony. I know I'm going to wonder whatever possessed me to have another baby when/if that all starts again! But looking at my beautiful boy there's no question that it's worth it....

bonkerz · 07/01/2005 09:00

HULABABY

Have put the tests in the post for you! Hope they help!

bonkerz · 07/01/2005 09:08

woops wrong thread!

moschops · 07/01/2005 10:23

went to my doctor yesterday who has insisted on dating me from my last period even though i explained my irregular cycle to him. he says i am 11 weeks when i'm sure i am 7. gave up trying to argue it out with him, decided the midwife will hopefully take me more seriously.

a whole day at work yesterday and i felt fine, really tired but otherwise fine. today i am off again and feel awful, headache is back and i feel really giddy and terribly sick. am carrying a bucket round the house just in case.

midwife appointment is in a fortnight........both surgeries in my town are so oversubcribed it is ridiculous.

right i'm off to eat ginger biscuits......

bonkerz · 07/01/2005 13:25

got a really thumping headache and had it for 2 days now! Tummy and boobs feel swollen today and have been in bed by 8pm for 2 nights in a row, get up by 10.30 and then am up till atleast midnight! Its horrid but i know all these signs mean my baby is doing well! ok am gonna go now, gotta look for new trousers as these ones are tight!!!!

chickpea · 07/01/2005 13:49

Teatime-hang in there fingers crossed all round.

Jellybrain, my labours (3 of them) have all been fairly text book. I had my first at home (12hrs) second in hospital (breech - 6hrs) and 3rd at home (6hrs).

I would always recommend homebirth if you feel cnfident and comfortable at home it is so much more peaceful - you are on your own territory and can roam freely and do what you want. I watched a video for my first and walked round the garden/had baths/generally made lots of noise for my third.

My second was very different. The doctor told me he would have to give me an episiotomy (due to dd being breech) despite my protestations, until I threatened to sue him if he did. It turned out I got her out no problem with no stitches (accordingly felt very smug), but it wasn't right that he didn't want to listen to me and it wouldn't have happened if I was at home.

I have lots of friends that have had home births and not one of them would do it any differently next time round.

Go for Home every time!!

KMS - I have two friends that had waterbirths at home I think they hired the pool. Couldn't you get extra help at home from hubby or family - it is so much nicer to rest in your own bed.

hereshoping · 07/01/2005 14:59

feeling v anxiuos today so need to offload here -pregnancy symptoms seem less strong past couple of days so feeling v worried that all not well.no bleeding though.
might just be coz ive gone back to work and have that distraction
still enjoying beetroot sandwichs though!
lost one of our dogs last night, found her fallen down an 8 inch gap behind a garage and had to get fire brigade out ot rescue her! luckily they dont have much else to do round here

Azure · 07/01/2005 15:43

Hereshoping, I'm constantly analysing my pregnancy symptoms to see if they've got worse or better. It's such a worry, isn't it. I'm sure it's just the change of routine. Hopefully you can stay sane until your scan next week. I've arranged a private scan for next Tuesday, because I can't wait the five weeks until my NHS scan.

TeaTime · 07/01/2005 17:14

Hi all, just spotting again today hooray. Also got let off a huge hook - an essay is due on Weds for a course I'm on and I couldn't see myself able to concentrate on it at the weekend and I haven't done much on it yet... anyway they've agreed that I should take it easy and I can submit in April... Now only marking to worry about!
I'm SO glad this isn't my first pregnancy as I'd be really paranoid about my lack of symptoms - only got slightly more sensitive boobs. However I feel more or less exactly as I did last time so I'm clinging to hope. Would love a home birth - but to add to the pressure this year we're having our wee, half wood bungalow pulled down and a dormer one (two floors) built. There may not be a 'home' in August to have the baby in!

kate100 · 07/01/2005 17:42

Bonkerz I've had really terible headaches as well and I came home from work yesterday and went to bed at 4:30 - how pathetic.
Blosom 2 maybe you have lost weight, I lost a stone in my first 12 weeks last time and at 15 weeks pregnant 1 of my colleagues asked me if I'd been dieting. Have lost 8lbs so far this time, DH thinks my babies eat my bottom from the inside
I'm deeply jealous of all you mums who had lovely quick labours. I'm hoping to be a little bit quicker than the 27 hours it took me last time.
Does anyone else feel as if their hips are being pushed out from the inside? I can't remember if I felt this way last time.

kate100 · 07/01/2005 17:44

Teatime glad that the bleeding is easing off, that's hopefully a good sign. I'm sure that your scan feels like ages away, my scan is in the 18th and it still seems like forever away.

blossom2 · 07/01/2005 18:21

thanks kate100 but i doubt it somehow and its my second.

my scan is next thursday - roll on 40 weeks!!!

dramaqueen72 · 07/01/2005 19:59

evening everyone!
hereshoping - gosh hope doggy is okay? sounds like quite a drama and crisis!
teatime, glad you had a good day. last pg i moved house when dd was 2 wks old -NEVER AGAIN!!! absolute nightmare, dhs packing was awful, and i was a wreck.......so i wish you luck in august! i hope your home is built by then!
kate not quite got the same feeling as you, i feel more as if i have a cannon ball in my tummy..really heavy firm weighty kinda feeling. its rather uncomfy...........
also tell me who else is struggling to fit in jeans ALREADY. lordy, i know i would bloat abit and also show earlier, being number 4, but blimey! i am struggling to do up my trousers here... and i'm 8.2wks. mmmmm, sign of things to come!
whos not told yet? we havetn told anyone yet. and its getting harder and harder, letters about scans, midwife appointments, pg books....evidence seems to be everywhere, bet my mil has guessed! not telling ideally til feb 2nd (12wks) but at least not telling until after my scan (next wed)
feel abit left out as whole world is talking about holidays (well i'm not going anywhere this august!) and diets....(not much point in that right now) glad you are all here!

bluestar · 07/01/2005 21:18

I've not told anyone apart from dh & dr! I'm not so worried about waiting for 12 weeks but definitely until I've had the first scan and I know all is ok. Last time I got a scan at 10 weeks. My first midwife appt will be when I am 9 weeks so hopefully the scan list isn't too long. Almost laughed the other day when a couple of friends said I looked blooming & as if I'd lost weight! Mind you, they are heavily pg so I guess anyone would look skinny next to them! Must remember not to wear tight clothes next to thin people though!

KMS · 08/01/2005 00:03

Hi all.
Kate100 I am sure it is nothing, just another pregnancy niggle, but keep an eye on that feeling in your hips, chat to your m/w if it gets painful. I had SPD (symphisis Pubis Dysfunction) last time from 30 weeks and ended up on crutches. my pelvis is starting to ache already and I am really hopeing things don't get any worse. Have a physio appointment next week so heres hopeing that she can make it all better.

Eulalia · 08/01/2005 09:49

Teatime - I used to work as researcher and all that research you did into your symptoms just struck a chord (apart from the obvious clues such as marking). Glad the bleeding has eased. We are living in a half renovated house so no home births ... I enjoy the hospital stay just for the nice tiled bathroom although we do hope to have a bathroom by then.

dh told his work yesterday which I was a bit cross about as I said to wait till the scan next week. I think it was because I came home with all the bumpf from the midwife. anyway he can qualify for paternity pay - just gets it by 3 weeks as he started a new job recently.

Nausea almost gone though it came back last night. Hope everyone else starts feeling better soon.

colinsmommy · 08/01/2005 22:13

Have had some bleeding today. Called my Dr, and will go in for an ultrasound on Monday. It seems to have stopped for now, hopefully that is good. It was brownish, not bright red, either, so I think that is good, too.
