Mollyfloss · 16/01/2008 17:52

I'm getting all excited about the birth now! I can't wait to see my LO!!!

VictorianSqualor · 16/01/2008 17:56

IIRC, from my psych lessons at college, memories are stored in what is like a little bank, and eachj memory has a set of triggers, be it a word, a song a smell etc, and the smell is one of the strongest and first senses to be stored WRT each memory.
Interesting huh?

OP posts:
Peachy · 16/01/2008 17:58

I'm just glad that (I hope) I don't have to bother with the bag at all (will leave a list for DH to pack if a transfer becomes likely- all baby stuff in a basket, will take 2 minutes)

Peachy · 16/01/2008 17:59

Yeah but VS my Psych lessons were at Uni

No seriously you're right, its to do with trace memory storage and triggers for retrieval- and indeed smell is a strong factor.

VictorianSqualor · 16/01/2008 18:11

Ha!
Here's you hoping for no bag and me depserate to need one!

OP posts:
lorisparkle · 16/01/2008 19:49

Wow what a load of messages. I've read them all but now can't remember who said what and when!

Anyway - I'd start thinking about prams etc now as some have a waiting list and if you are confident in what you want then you can get it in time. There are loads of reasons to wait but it is a very individual decision

I found the tubigrip helped in my first pregnancy with back and pelvis pain but made no difference in this one. Even though the belt has to be loosened when I sit down it has certainly helped although today I had a terrible shooting pain in my groin and could not walk.

Thanks everyone for advice RE real nappies. I will investigate some more once I have sent off for my voucher.

They tried to turn DS1 as he was breech. Sometimes it can happen fairly easily without much discomfort but I did not have a very good experience. I was not allowed to eat (just in case there were problems and I had to have an emergency CS), they gave me a drug to relax the muscles (which also caused a racing heart beat), I then had to lie down with my head down and legs up and then the consultant physically tried to push DS1 around. They did scans throughout and monitored baby before and after. DS1 was a big baby and well and truly stuck in position. The pain was like being stabbed and I asked for it all to be stopped. I talked to lots of people about it and experience vary wildly. One woman said it was so easy and baby just flipped into head down position without any problems. Sometimes once the baby gets the idea it will carry moving round by itself. I am glad I tried but if DC2 is breech I would not do it again.

Peachy - have you been on the TEACCH website about toilet training. I know you have loads of knowledge and experience so probably have but I found it really interesting. When I did my degree we did about ASD briefly and we were told that there seemed to be a link between difficult births and ASD. I think it was some twin studies where the one twin who had the easier birth had some language difficulties but not ASD and the other twin who had birth difficulties had ASD. It was over 10 years ago though!

Sorry rather a long post.....

Mollyfloss · 16/01/2008 20:18

Lori: i didn't know anything about trying to turn the baby. So is it something they do when you are/should be about to give birth and not before? I mean if you go in to have the baby turned can you presume that you won't be sent home before you have the baby?

Denny185 · 16/01/2008 20:34

My experience simlar to lorisparkles, pretty painful but nothing compared to labour - she didnt turn. I believe the type of breech presentation can make it more easy/diff to turn but only 50% are successful.

PortAndLemon · 16/01/2008 20:54

IME (well, not mine, but that of people in my antenatal groups with breech babies) they look at doing it around 38-39 weeks. So you'd normally have it done, go home, then have the baby later, but they'll do it when IF there was a problem and they needed to deliver the baby the baby is mature enough to probably not need to go into the NICU.

Sal22 · 16/01/2008 22:40

Hi everyone. I've been reading this thread every day for a while now and really love all the tips and discussions, so thought I might as well join you... I'm a first time mom, baby boy due 13th of April. Nervous and excited, can't believe only 3 months left!

scorpio1 · 17/01/2008 08:52

Hello

not very long left now AT ALL !!!!

today i am going to get my nails done and potter around town, well if my newly acquired SPD will let me. it was so amusing trying to have sex last night with my legs closed

Tomorrow i pick up cake and flowers and get my hair done, buy decorations and decorate the reception. Kev is satying at his friends house on friday night, so im home alone with 3 kiddies and millie bump, no-one else can stay with me (working).

i am skiving uni today, just so tired and i cant walk very well at all. going to ask MW on weds if i can have a physio appt. Cannot believe i am 28 weeks tomorrow, i may have a baby in 11 weeks, thats just 77 sleeps

Hope everyone well?

May pop on later, just very busy!

TLSM · 17/01/2008 09:11

EllieG · 17/01/2008 09:16

Going to get acrylics on my nails today (short ones) with little silver gems on. i will be very sparkly tomorrow!

scorpio1 · 17/01/2008 09:19

saturday even....

god i am so batty at the mo!

EllieG · 17/01/2008 09:22

Good about the changing bag tlsm - not so good about fainting on chocolate, you probably spoiled a good display there

Seriously though - are you OK? Maybe you should take it easy for a bit?

I bought that ear thermometer yesterday from Lloyds - was very chuffed at cheapness. Mothercare also having a sale too with lots basics on cheap.

I know you have to wash clothes before you give them to baby to wear, but do you have to wash bedding/blankets too?

EllieG · 17/01/2008 09:23

They will have a lovely time having a party though. Is all lovely.

scorpio1 · 17/01/2008 09:24

you love weddings don't you ellie?

im nervous i wont say the vows right or everyone will have a shit time.

EllieG · 17/01/2008 09:28

I do love 'em yes! So much that I am having another one

No one will have a shit time, you will look beautiful and will all be fab. And messing up vows doesn't matter, the important thing is getting married and being happy.

Mollyfloss · 17/01/2008 09:48

I love weddings too and can't wait to see your pics scorpio! It's bringing it all back to me (even though it was only last April). No need to be nervous. it will all be fine! You are going to have one of the best days of your life (I believe the other best days are when babies are born)

Sheds75 · 17/01/2008 11:17

Morning All,

Good Luck Scorpio, can't wait to see all the lovely pics.

soo much to catch up on today, I was only out of the office for 1 day and you've posted 4 pages of good stuff..... I now have enough lists to really scare the hell out of DP

Scampmum · 17/01/2008 11:24

Morning all! Scorpio, I was thinking about you on my walk to work at 7 this morning! Mumsnet stalker ahoy . Just how impressed I am with getting married and having your third baby at 23 AND getting four A-levels AND getting a degree - I think you should be very proud of yourself and remember what a lucky man DP is to be becoming DH!

Got my midwife appointment at KCH, finally - it's on a SATURDAY!! I can't believe I'm supposed to have an ante-natal appointment on my own time - the horror. AND it's the day I'm booked to go to the Sanctuary with my friends as a 30th birthday present that we've all kind of given each other. It's not till 2nd Feb - will be 28+1 when I finally have my booking appt!

Luckily I didn't wait for that and a friend of Mum's who's a physio ordered me the belt - it was the wrong size (I'm a SMALL ) but phoned them and they are sending a replacement to my work tomorrow which crossed-fingers will arrive in time for our Paris trip. I don't see why you guys with SPD couldn't just phone and order yourselves one ahead of physio appointments.

It's the Valkus pregnancy lower back fembrace (or something) and costs £21.03 inc. postage from Mobilis Healthcare Group, 0161 678 0233. Mustn't be the same as yours, Ellie, as the great thing is it entirely conceals love handles! almost like special pants without the gusset.

Scampmum · 17/01/2008 11:28

This might be it but more expensive maybe Mum's friend had a physio discount?

Denny185 · 17/01/2008 11:46
