@Daffodil21 @HopefulB thanks ladies, everything is okay now. His heart rate was around 180 when the ambulance crew were checking him over so they said it might be him fighting an infection, yet the hospital said his lungs were clear and it’s just one of them medical mysteries Confused at least he’s okay! And the inward breathing has gone so that’s good.

@ame88 hope baby makes an appearance soon for you, get as much rest as you can now! 😅

@Ava50x massive congratulations, what a relief for you finally! How are you feeling now?

@BertieBotts totally understandable everything you say, it’s a hard decision with your feeding going so well. As you say the bigger picture may need a different approach. My DH suggested formula the other night as I felt I literally had nothing left to give DS2 in my boobs and he seemed fussy because of this, and it really upset me he even said it as this time BF is going well, so totally get where your coming from!! How old is your DS2? My first is also testing boundaries at the minute which is equally exhausting! Sad

@biscuitcat and @Ready2020 I hope your both okay. Flowers Firstly well done both of you for considering that it might be PND, as someone who had PND the first time around it’s a really hard thing to admit (or it was for me anyway). It’s really tough knowing if it is that or just normal feelings and trying to adapt to a new way of life. If your both still feeling that was in a weeks time I would 100% talk to your GP/health visitor though.

@PurplePansy05 amazing news about weight gain, so happy for you!! Grin Luckily we weren’t at the hospital for TOO long, only about 4 hours but I was knackered the next day.

Magik01 · 01/09/2021 02:00

@Ready2020 enjoy the sleep!! Babies are resilient things so I wouldn’t worry too much about Rowan not settling for your OH, I think the fact the want smell milk on men really helps as well.

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 03:24

I've just been reading this thread and it's hilarious 😂 something to keep you going through the night feeds!

What's the most PFB embarrassing moment you've had? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4337478-what-s-the-most-pfb-embarrassing-moment-you-ve-had

Ready2020 · 01/09/2021 05:32

Oh dear things aren't going too well for OH. I slept into 4.30 and got up to pee and stuck my head in the room. He was up trying to settle her. She was up at 3am and he gave her one 60ml breast milk bottle and just expected her to go to sleep but she didn't settle and he's so spent the last 1.5 hours trying to get her to sleep. I could see right away that she was still hungry so I said to give her the second bottle. I just wanted to give her the boob but the point was to work out how we can do this so I can sleep. If I were him I'd have given the second bottle ages ago. Plus he has her out her sleep bag claiming she didn't like it and was too hot! She flails about just because,, nothing to do with the bag.

I think also part of it is DD likes to fall asleep on my boob so isn't used to being settled without it. But she needs to if this is a regular thing.

I guess she must get more milk from me than I realised if 110 ml over 2 hours isn't enough to settle her.

I suggested I give her boob if she isn't settling but OH got pissed saying if I want to give her boob then fine. It's my choice. I think he just didn't like that he can't settle her. Plus he's probably tired!

I only got 4.5 hours of my 6 so not sure what to do now.

Ready2020 · 01/09/2021 05:40

Oh so she settled after the 2nd bottle which is great. We're all off back to sleep. But now I'm left thinking I should pump... I usually feed her boob at least once before now... if I don't pump will that do anything to my supply?

wimbler · 01/09/2021 06:42

@Daffodil21 must have a read of that properly later but I might be stupid but what does PFB mean?! I get the gist of it from the few posts I read but can’t work it out 😂

lucyrp · 01/09/2021 06:45

@wimbler perfect first born I think!

sarah13xx · 01/09/2021 07:09

@Ready2020 😂 I think it must be a man thing. I really try not to stand over him saying what he should be doing but he doesn’t seem to pick up on what he wants the same as me 🙈 I don’t know if it’s just that I’ve spent way more time with him now because he’s back at work. I think if that’s me with his actual dad what chance do I have of ever letting anyone look after him 😂

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 07:29

@wimbler @lucyrp yes precious first born!

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 07:33

Personally I think warming wipes on the radiator in winter is a genius idea!

@Ready2020 glad you all got some sleep in the bed! Your OH will soon get the hang of it. I definitely don't need to supervise my DH when he has DS. He'll get there x

BertieBotts · 01/09/2021 09:06

I used to warm them on my tummy for PFB :o

On the topic of wipes, Pampers have brought out a new coconut oil wipe and we absolutely love it!! It's made nappy changes much less screamy. Who knew newborns had a wipe preference?

Ready 4 hours is better than nothing I guess? I wonder if it would work better to move the shifts - 12-6 is sort of in the middle whereas if you each take one from 8-2 and then 2-8, that can work quite well.

Or if only the boob works does it work for him to bring her to you to feed lying down and then take her away to resettle? It's so tough though. A also only stays asleep if he's fallen asleep feeding and isn't moved. As soon as you move him it's game over. I do remember DS1 getting better at that by a few weeks in, I want to say 8 weeks? But I can't remember.

It's sooo hard to let them take control isn't it? That's what I was trying to get at yesterday. It's difficult because I know rationally that it's important to let them find their own way, and that there were days in the beginning when I didn't get it right and DC was upset but we got there in the end etc. But it's really difficult when you think you know what will solve it. But the more you can step back the better. Often what you know works doesn't actually work for someone else anyway. I know for me I also get really controlling over every tiny little detail - so for example, I didn't want him using a certain kind of dummy because I don't like that dummy, I didn't want him giving the dummy except under really specific parameters whereas he'd try it at the tiniest hint of a cry. If he's going to bottle feed, then I want it done as paced feeding and I don't want him to watch TV while he feeds as he needs to be gazing into the baby's eyes.... all totally ridiculous (I certainly do not spend every breastfeed gazing at the baby, I have already watched half a US TV season!) Last time I shouted at him because he picked up a knife to level off the formula and then wiped his hand on his trousers and didn't wash it again and my head went ~germs~ He knows I don't like him putting the baby in his car seat (but we laugh about that). Actually he can pull the straps tighter than me :o

Anyway I was doing quite well at reminding myself to let him do it his own way and repeating mentally that a dummy given slightly too early won''t harm or hurt him but I did lose the plot a bit when he suddenly suggested bottles/formula in the shop! I have decided I just want to get to 4 weeks minimum and then we'll reassess whether it would be a useful addition at that point.

It is important to let dads make their own mistakes or you can get into a pattern where they feel they aren't "allowed" or aren't as good as you and then when you really need the help they are less willing to step up which is a killer. But it does mean shutting down that overprotective instinct. Or at least being open about it and laughing at it together.

BertieBotts · 01/09/2021 09:09

Oh sorry forgot to answer Magik - DS2 is just 3.

HauteGirlSummer · 01/09/2021 09:26

Congrats and welcome to all the beautiful new bubs on here 🤗🤗 My little girl is just 3 weeks old now, time flies!

I had an elective csection and something weird happened to my voice ever since I've had the surgery.
My voice has gone hoarse and very pitchy. Is this normal???

RandomCatGenerator · 01/09/2021 09:35

Not something I’ve experienced @HauteGirlSummer, and not a side effect of the c section that was on the long list of side effects waiver I signed…

Ready2020 · 01/09/2021 09:45

I think it was a learning night but that was inevitable as it was the first night we've tried it. She actually slept well after that second bottle with OH giving her over at 9am. I don't think either of us slept well after that second bottle though.

It may have only been 4.30 hours but it was a good deep sleep.

DD is now guzzling boob as OH naps in the spare room. I'll need to find time to get breakfast and a shower as I've got the Dr's at 12.

PurplePansy05 · 01/09/2021 11:41

Congratulations @Ava50x, I am so so happy for you ❤💐💐💐 I hope both of you are feeling well and settling in at home. What a quick arrival too after so many days of struggle for you! Crazy.

@lucyrp Sorry to hear about the car, that's really tough. Any chance to buy something cheap to tie you over during your mat leave? Or borrow one if you have a family member not using a second/older car? xx

BertieBotts · 01/09/2021 12:28

Are all the babies here or are we still waiting for a couple?

Ava50x · 01/09/2021 13:35

Thanks for all the congratulations, everyone. Thankfully the intense pain of the haemorrhoids is now gone, now that the pressure from the baby is off. That's made it so much easier and i'm so pleased. Baby (nameless as of now, we will decide hopefully later!) was very unsettled all night, basically wanted to feed all night so we are all a bit knackered here.

To top it all off, the boiler's gone so I can't even have a decent shower. Just waiting for the repairman to come and then its a long shower and hopefully longer nap!

@lucyrp OMG about the car, that's crazy.

lucyrp · 01/09/2021 14:02

@PurplePansy05 yeah trying to find something. Such a minefield trying to figure out a plan of action. What was supposed to be a lovely couple of weeks as a family relaxing had turned into the most happiest and worst week of our lives. Such a mix of emotions🥺xx

@Ava50x ridiculous. We've only had it 18 months 🥴 we don't seem to have much luck with cars

wimbler · 01/09/2021 15:43

@lucyrp so annoying about your car. We’ve just signed for a new one and we are part ex-ing ours. Drove ours today and put a scratch all down the side of it on a country lane when I encountered a horse box coming towards me at huge speed. No where to go but into the bushes. DH is furious as it will probably affect the value. Feel like such a prat for panicking and causing it

BertieBotts · 01/09/2021 15:45

Oh no! Maybe you can get some touch up paint before you part exchange?

PurplePansy05 · 01/09/2021 16:20

@wimbler Not your fault, the other driver should have been more considerate!

We're still waiting for @ame88's little one, I believe? And few other girls have gone quiet, I assume the little ones must be here by now, but life's got busy. I've updated our list:

@biscuitcat How are you feeling today? Flowers Big love and thanks for suggesting the lactation consultant. My mind is well and truly blown after my appointment. She was SO good, picked up on my bad bf habits immediately and gave me tips how to do things better. They were minor things, but wow, what a total transformation. Leo has been feeding exclusively off my breasts today, very peaceful, sleeping well. DH is in the office and I was dreading today if I'm honest. But because he's been so good, we've managed to go for a walk and I actually did so much around the house today, bought bits online, ticked off some tedious stuff off the list. Cooked something. This is the first time in a month that I feel truly good and on top of things, and wow, what a difference this makes.

Obviously this might be a coincidence not linked to feeding. Maybe a one-off good day. But I'm making the most of it!!!

And regardless, lactation consultant was worth her weight in gold, wish I had booked her sooner. Not one midwife or HV picked up on what she's picked up on and they all saw me feeding DS.

Also those of you whose babies are more alert now, I found lovely sensory videos for newborns on YT from Hey Bear. Don't know if you've used them, but Leo loves the black & white one with classical music, he's mesmerised with it! Thought I'd share if you're looking for this sort of thing, IME better than printed images/books xx

@PurplePansy05 I'm afraid my little one will not be a September baby! Would love to stay on for advice etc still if that's ok!

PurplePansy05 · 01/09/2021 17:10

@ame88 Of course ❤ We will have a mix of late July, Aug and early Sep babies 😊 Keep us updated! xx
