@PurplePansy05 was your appointment via video call or in person?? Xx

biscuitcat · 01/09/2021 17:29

@PurplePansy05 feeling much better today thank you lovely 💜 Rowan has slept for a good three hour chunk the past two nights (plus a couple of shorter ones), and it's made a big difference, I think I was feeling very sleep deprived. And I'm so thrilled the lactation consultant was helpful - mine was like a baby whisperer!

Good recommendation for the videos - I'll try those with Rowan as he's definitely having more wakeful periods now xx

@PurplePansy05 you sound transformed - so glad the lactation consultant was good. I wish they were automatically available on the NHS, my experience is that a good one can be transformative (and a bad one honestly quite traumatising - sadly my initial experience and part of why i am not not BF, but am pumping a lot).

Do you have any links to the videos you’d recommend?

Rocker / bouncer arrives tomorrow so will be able to sit him up to watch YT if they look good…

RandomCatGenerator · 01/09/2021 17:36

@Ava50x so happy for your safe delivery, finally! Hope you and the baby are doing well and glad your haemorrhoids are no longer as painful Flowers

Ready2020 · 01/09/2021 20:57

Positive thoughts for night shift tonight ladies. I'm off for my nap. Got a busy day tomorrow with my second covid vaccine then a trip into Edinburgh! I've been craving ramen from this restaurant I love. Bit nervous about the big trip but hopefully it'll be fun.

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 21:01

One of my cats is sooo much happier since we brought the baby home! Has anyone else had this? I'm so glad, I thought he would just hide up!

@Ready2020 hope you get enough rest to
enjoy your day tomorrow!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/09/2021 21:04

@Ready2020 I think our babies are the same age right. So my LO has now upped her feed from 60 to 90ml expressed so maybe that's what it is. I'm currently pumping. Trying to do it atleast twice a day to keep up with her appetite so that DH can feed her too. I was supposed to sleep from 7:30-1 am but can't sleep hence pumping. MIL is coming over tomorrow so I plan on napping some and expressing some whilst she's here. I managed to pump 180ml this morning in 45 min.

I also went for a walk alone with bubba for the first time since she's been born. I went to a local cafe and got a decaf latte and managed to get on FaceTime with my friend. After a while though bubba got fussy so had to feed her in the cafe. Honestly fresh air makes such a difference. I came home feeling refreshed!!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/09/2021 21:06

@Daffodil21 - thanks for the pfb thread. I've laughed so much whilst expressing. Defo raised my oxytocin 🤣

@Ava50x congratulations darling! Glad your haemorrhoids are better too. Keep hydrated x

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 21:07

@Whatshouldbemyusername you pumped 180ml in 45 mins?! Wow!!! My volume has seriously decreased. The last few days I've been getting 1oz in 10 mins (I was getting about 2.5 in 10 mins before) then FA after!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/09/2021 21:15

@Daffodil21 yes babe. I did power pumping on Monday and yesterday I had so much milk! Maybe look at that. Also another tip that Women in my family been using for decades.

Soak some fenugreek seeds, dill seeds and fennel seeds in a big cup of water. Boil it the next morning to reduce quantity to a quarter of that soaked and drink that. It's meant to increase breast milk supply. X

Whatshouldbemyusername · 01/09/2021 21:17

@Daffodil21 just finished pumping £150 ml now in 40 mins. Power pumping on Monday really helped x

Daffodil21 · 01/09/2021 21:21

Thanks @Whatshouldbemyusername - I will definitely try this!

PurplePansy05 · 01/09/2021 22:06

@RandomCatGenerator Thanks lovely Flowers Here is the link to Leo's current favourite sensory video:

I am an emotional wreck this eve - DH brought home a gift from one of his colleagues, she's a lady in her 60s now. She has five adult children and suffered MCs too, she's opened up to DH after she heard my story. She made a dream catcher for DS. It's beautiful, it must have taken her days to make it, the detail is incredible. It's always going to be above DS's crib/cot. Always. And I'm crying again ❤

I think I've missed the posts about PFB, what is this in relation to?? I'd like a good laugh too Grin xx

afictionado · 01/09/2021 22:48

@PurplePansy05 So glad the lactation consultant was helpful, they can make such a difference can't they! And the dream catcher sounds lovely, what a thoughtful gift, especially from someone who understands your journey.

DS2 has caught a cold from DS1. 🙁 We've been in lockdown since right after DS2 was born and one or other of us has been sick throughout so it's not surprising that he's caught it too but I was hoping he'd have some immunity from breastfeeding. He's so snotty and coughing a lot so not sleeping well, and he does this horrible gagging cough that sounds like a cat throwing up. Newborns are so snuffly that I don't know how much of it is the cold and how much is normal newborn noises.

sarah13xx · 01/09/2021 23:10

@Daffodil21 our dog has totally changed too. I was a bit worried as to how he’d get on with a baby because he’s quite hyperactive but he’s just become so gentle around the baby and goes over to look in his moses basket. I’d never leave Freddie lying out anywhere alone with him but I’ve been able to trust him if I’ve just had to nip to the other room quickly etc when he’s been in the pram or moses basket and he wouldn’t touch him which I’m so surprised at!

sarah13xx · 01/09/2021 23:17

Passed the 3 week mark and I feel like it’s just become easier this week 😌 Starting to find some sort of rhythm and feel a lot less like all I do is feeds and nappy changes (although that is still all I do)! I think getting a decent sleep most nights seems to be making a big difference. I’ve stopped stressing about trying to dive in a shower while my husbands at work and decided I’ll just wash my hair at nights if I need to to save that being an issue. Have even sat my clothes out for tomorrow to make it as quick as possible to get ready. I’ve found the morning is when he’s most awake and it’s the one time I’m trying to do a million other things. Was in the shower tonight while he watched him downstairs like wow how good is it to go for an uninterrupted shower 😍😂 utterly tragic!
I’m going to get into podcasts again I think. I’ve downloaded some from the good motherhood and I’m going to do an hours walk every morning with the pram while listening to a podcast as a mini escape from it all 😊

Hope everyone else’s week is going well x

Ready2020 · 02/09/2021 02:13

@Whatshouldbemyusername yes I said the exact same to OH today Grin must up feeds to 90ml. Means more pumping though!

So scenario for you. I've mentioned this before -

After 4 hour sleep, at midnight, OH brings DD up to bedroom and she feeds on one boob for half hour. Pops off boob in a drowsy state. Is left on bed to doze, hoping to get into deeper sleep. After 10 or 15 minutes still only dozing. Lift up to see if second boob or winding is needed. Winded for a bit but nothing comes up (never does really). Still in drowsy state, eyes closed and floppy.

Put into snuz pod with some white noise. Now routine of every few minutes arms and legs flail, noises from squeaks to grunt to ahs. Lasts about 30 seconds then back to dozing. Every few minutes this happens. She's not in a deep sleep.

Should I pick up and keep winding, pick up and try second boob, leave as is and ignore but stay awake, ignore and go to sleep?

afictionado · 02/09/2021 03:00

@Ready2020 Sounds like she's in active sleep. I'd ignore/go to sleep unless she gets upset. She'll either drift into a deeper sleep or wake up looking for the second boob.

Magik01 · 02/09/2021 03:33

Thanks for that thread @Daffodil21 it’s keeping me going through the night!! Grin

So so glad the lactation consultant has transformed your feeding @PurplePansy05 I really wish I knew about them with my first, I think it would have made a world of difference. Can I ask, what was it that she picked up on? No worries if that’s an invasive question though! I’m just curious. Thank you for the video recommendation as well, will give it a go tomorrow!

@Ready2020 DS2 does that as well, I only really pick him up if I can see he’s getting distressed or crying though. Someone’s he’s working a poop out 😂

@sarah13xx glad your starting to get into a routine, it’s a nice feeling when you know it isn’t going to be sleepless nights forever and ever isn’t it. I think we all take for granted uninterrupted baths/showers. I managed to get a bath the other day when it was just me and baby in, can’t say I was relaxed though as I was worried about him waking up when I was having a soak.

@lucyrp that really sucks about your car, really how you managed to get a substitute soon. Will the place you had it from not but it back at all, or can you trade it in early?

Today (yesterday) was my first day alone with two children. We all survived. Although it broke my heart when DS1 wanted a cuddle and I was feeding at the time so couldn’t, ended in tears from us both.

Smurf123 · 02/09/2021 03:34

@Ready2020 I'd ignore too tbh unless she's crying out getting upset I think that's just her getting herself over to sleep
She will soon let you know if she isn't happy
Dd just slept from 1040-3 I'm amazed

A few people suggested MAM bottles on here so I got some this week in Tesco and oh my goodness what a difference! Dd likes them so much better she doesn't gag on them, takes it instantly and can drink it easily whereas the tommee tippe ones she was really struggling and it was taking her a good 20/30 mins to drink 30ml. We still only use them for a small amount to put dentinox colic drops or gripe water but it's so much less stressful! I've ordered some of the MAM dummies too to see if she prefers them! Thank you to everyone who suggested them!!

Daffodil21 · 02/09/2021 03:52

@PurplePansy05 what a lovely gift! There's a thread going atm for things people did fit their PFBs - some of the things are hilarious! It's here: What's the most PFB embarrassing moment you've had? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/4337478-what-s-the-most-pfb-embarrassing-moment-you-ve-had

@sarah13xx yes same with one of our cats! He tries to walk on the baby (like he does with us) so they can't be left alone at all which is very annoying! The cat doesn't mean any harm but obviously just doesn't know he can't walk on the baby! He will sit on the foot stool next to th bouncy chair when DS is in it and hops up on the sofa to curl up with us while he's having a feed. The cat just seems so much happier since! It's lovely to watch 🥰

@sarah13xx I shower in the evenings too - I'd rather enjoy it!

@Ready2020 if not crying I think I'd ignore too...

Ready2020 · 02/09/2021 03:58

Oh thanks @afictionado and others. I googled active sleep and it all makes more sense now. I wasn't really aware of that cycle. I just need to find a way for me to sleep through the active part.

This was a good article parentingscience.com/newborn-sleep/

RandomCatGenerator · 02/09/2021 06:50

@sarah13xx @Daffodil21 we also have an over-curious cat. He fully tries to get into the sleepyhead with the baby. Like a teenager, he regards all property as shared property… the older cat on the other hand has absolutely no interest in the baby, she just wants to return to pre-baby times when she had more strokes (because my hands were free more…) 😻

RandomCatGenerator · 02/09/2021 06:54

Yes! In India this is called ajwain water as carom (Hindi word: ajwain) seeds are often used. it’s also meant to help to reduce uterus size back to normal. Does not taste unpleasant either, in my opinion. I’ve been chugging it.
