@BertieBotts I had an ELCS so no screaming involved! The only thing I'd been taking was paracetamol and diclofenac (ibuprofen type thing) following CS. It's starting to get a little annoying!!

Daffodil21 · 23/08/2021 12:23

@BertieBotts looks like you were spot on! Thank you! I stopped taking that yesterday so hopefully it will stop soon!

Due August 2021 - Welcome to the World!
BertieBotts · 23/08/2021 12:42

Oh that's interesting as I had diclofenac after my first birth too! But only the one suppository.

sarah13xx · 23/08/2021 13:22

@Daffodil21 ohh didn’t realise diclofenac could cause that! I had almost stopped the pain killers but I think I over did it out a walk yesterday and ended up taking some last night. Feel fine again today so think that’s me stopped them now 🤞🏼

Daffodil21 · 23/08/2021 13:27

@sarah13xx that's exactly what I did yesterday! Didn't take any yesterday until I went on a slightly too long walk so took them when I got home. I'd been spacing them out a bit more in the few days before though as I didn't need them as much. Really hoping this ringing is not permanent 🙉

Inmypjsagain · 23/08/2021 15:46

@Smurf123 thank you so much for this, I think this is what it is! he’s just learning how to poo, makes so much sense. He did eventually go as well and it was all fine- so thats so good to know. I feel that’s something that should have been covered in NCT because I thought he was constipated!

@PurplePansy05 I’ve thought before from your posts that they sound like quite similar babies! Also I don’t change night time nappies often, I think it started from the section, that my husband thought he should be doing it, he normally wakes when baby needs a feed so does it and gets back to sleep. I’m not complaining 😂

@Ava50x and @lucyrp how are you both doing today?

Hope everyone else getting on and not too tired! Referring to previous post about how to make coffee one handed- cups far away on the work top is a good tip! and I really think we might buy a pod machine. We currently have one where you grind the bean and separate frother etc… are they called bean to cup? But it’s not a smart one so I can’t just press a button for a latte, definitely need 2 hands and it’s tricky! Started putting him in the bouncer in the kitchen- he LOVES the baby bjorn and I don’t get it? He wiggles away and bounces!

Starting to look at slings and carriers if anyone has any recommendations- feeling a bit stronger after the section now and like I could carry on my stomach (can’t believe how much core strength I have lost though) Our nearest sling library isn’t actually that near so wondering if we should just take the plunge and order online!

PurplePansy05 · 23/08/2021 16:13

Oh, shit maybe I should have invested in the Bjorn after all @Inmypjsagain! They deffo soun d like very similar babies, alas I was a tight bastard of a mum and didn't bother as you remember 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 I will keep looking on Fb...the bouncer we bought from M&P is waaaay too big for him.

So I'm a bit worried actually. Leo is a sleepy baby today and his temp seems on a low side, below 36C. He's just not himself. His poops were very small today too. I'm not sure if I should be calling 111 soon xx

wimbler · 23/08/2021 16:16

@Inmypjsagain I have the baby bjorn “one” which I really like. It’s very structured and lasted our dd until she was around 15 months when she just got too heavy for me. I’ve tried the ergo baby 360 too which is similar abs probably more comfortable but harder to get on and done up alone. We didn’t try any before buying just went of the John Lewis recommendation at our nursery advice appointment

PurplePansy05 · 23/08/2021 16:18

And I feel the same about my core muscles sadly @Inmypjsagain. I was advised no slings or baby carriers for at least 8 weeks post CS at the hospital. We have an Ergobaby sling and Ergobaby Omnia carrier. Used the latter twice and even though it's suitable from 0 to 4 yrs and DS is definitely big enough weight and height-wise, he looked really slumped in it and DH had to support him himself. I didn't like this positioning, I think he needs to grow a bit more and have stronger neck and core muscles personally (even though he is a strong baby). Maybe it's me being OTT though. The carrier seems really well made and has lots of support to be fair. It's just they are so tiny still. Leo drowns in it no matter how much we adjust it xx

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 23/08/2021 16:54

I've got a Boba wrap but I haven't used it with Alex yet. My tummy still feels a bit... loose I suppose? And bump still in the way.

Have you adjusted the Omni to the newborn setting? I demoed it a few times in the shop but the one time someone tried it with a real baby I wasn't sure either. Slumping likely means it needs to be tighter, but it might just be that even these newer style SSC carriers are not the best for newborns. I know with car seats for example the "newborn" they are designed for is actually based on a 6 week old baby. And there's a huge difference in size from literally newborn to 6 weeks old.

I usually use a cafetiere to make my coffee and did manage one handed but got DH to buy some instant the other day. It tastes crap but it's better than nothing.

BertieBotts · 23/08/2021 16:57

Are you still under midwife care or transferred to health visitor? I'd be concerned about a temp that low but depends where you're measuring from. If you're still under midwives you can ring labour ward for advice.

PurplePansy05 · 23/08/2021 17:10

@BertieBotts We followed the instructions and watched YT videos and it still doesn't look quite right. It is as tight as it can possibly get around DH's shoulders and everywhere else. It also sits above DH's waist for the time being which according to the tutorials is right for newborns. It seems to fit well right behind DS's neck but somehow as DH starts moving, DS slumps a bit. I really think he is too small for it.

I've just spoken to the midwives, yes, we are going to get him checked over at the hospital.

Before I go, a quick shout out, Cath Kidston has a 50-70% off sale on baby clothes, I bought 3 lovely outfits for Leo for this morning 🥰.

Will update later xx

@Inmypjsagain had a sweep at 11:45 today and she said I had 1.5cm of cervix left to go but I was 1cm dilated and it was a successful sweep. She did say my cervix was slightly posterior but that this sweep should really get things going and there was no point doing another one before induction because if this one doesn't do anything then another one won't. Nothings happened yet so unsure if it will do anything, felt crampy on and off but nothing that means much. Annoyed really as I thought it would get it going. Got to go for Covid tests to the hospital Thursday and then being induced on Saturday 😫🥴

sarah13xx · 23/08/2021 17:57

@Daffodil21 definitely very easily done when you’re feeling good! I can’t believe how good my recovery has been, I feel almost normal now. I’ve been able to have baths as well (my favourite thing ever) and I thought for some reason I wasn’t going to be able to have one for months! fingers crossed the ringing stops.. didn’t see that on the risks for a c-section 🙈

sarah13xx · 23/08/2021 18:01

Anyone else’s little one got really dry skin? Freddie’s skin on his arms and legs is really peeling badly today. When I’ve looked it up I think it must be because he didn’t have much vernix left on his skin when he was born because it was so close to 40 weeks. NHS website says not to use anything on their skin for at least the first month. Got the health visitor out tomorrow anyway so will see what she thinks of it but it just looks so annoying/itchy for him ☹️

Daffodil21 · 23/08/2021 18:39

@sarah13xx I feel more normal than I expected too. I'm surprised at how tired I am though just because I am actually sleeping quite a lot atm!

I tried my carrier today (I did not know about the 8 week advice!) didn't take him out in though as he cried as soon as he was put in it!

BertieBotts · 23/08/2021 18:53

@PurplePansy05 hope everything is OK.

@sarah13xx Yes lots of peely skin here. My midwife said we could put oil on it - any edible oil (coconut/olive etc) but I don't think it bothers them and I probably won't put anything on it.

@lucyrp 1.5cm of cervix means there''s a high chamce of labour within 7 days!

lucyrp · 23/08/2021 19:37

@BertieBotts do you think ?

Ready2020 · 23/08/2021 19:49

I think I might need to go to the Dr's about anxiety. It's hard to tell if it's something that will pass or not given the upheaval to my life just now. I used to be on citalopram years ago and have a history of anxiety so can tell the signs of it building in my chest. I don't want it to get worse. Though I'm not sure I can take citalopram while breast feeding but I'll check it out.

Re flaky skin my midwife and health visitor said to not put anything on it unless the skin looks sore as it won't make any difference.

sarah13xx · 23/08/2021 19:58

@BertieBotts hadn’t thought of coconut oil. Will give it a few weeks first I think, just doesn’t look nice for him at all ☹️

@Ready2020 yeah I don’t think it looks red or sore, it’s just all white lines or skin peeling away. Will give it a few weeks and see if it goes away on its own

Daffodil21 · 23/08/2021 20:00

@Ready2020 definitely do go. Much better to go now than before it gets worse Thanks

sarah13xx · 23/08/2021 20:01

@Ready2020 think lack of sleep can really play on your anxiety too! I was on anxiety medication pre-pregnancy and only stopped because I was pregnant and didnt want to take it. I’m finding myself quite anxious about visitors coming and it just feels like a never ending list of people wanting to come. Trying to space them out one per day and meet them in the garden to calm myself about the covid situation but even though I shouldn’t really clean or anything I’m finding myself worrying about it! Part of me can’t wait until everyones seen him once so they don’t keep coming round

Ready2020 · 23/08/2021 20:06

@sarah13xx lack of sleep really does make it worse. I noticed that before pre baby. It was one of my big worries having a baby that the lack of sleep would make it worse. I'll call the Dr tomorrow but doubt I'd get an appointment any time soon!

afictionado · 23/08/2021 20:33

@PurplePansy05 How'd you get on at the hospital? Is he okay?

Re carriers I've been using a ring sling which works well for newborns (and is pretty quick to take on and off), but can be a bit tricky if you've never used one before. Pretty cheap to pick up second hand though.

DS2 slept for 4 hours straight (longest stretch he's done so far!) and while it was great to catch up on sleep my breasts were rock melons by the time he woke up. There's no winning! 😭

Magik01 · 24/08/2021 04:36

@Ready2020 how was you and OH sharing a bed again? Did it work? Re going the doctors about anxiety, I 100% would as you know the signs to look out for. It might even be worth mentioning to your midwife/ health visitor depending on who’s care your under now. They are able to refer you to different organisations. I’m currently under an organisation where I get sessions to talk to a midwife who’s also a qualified councillor which really helped with my anxiety surrounding the birth. Depends what route you want to go down. Hope your okay though, it’s a scary time and a massive change to anyone’s life.

@PurplePansy05 I would be concerned with a temperature that low so glad to hear you went to get little Leo checked out. Hope all is okay! Flowers

@Inmypjsagain my little one doesn’t like the baby born bouncer! He just doesn’t look comfy in it but I’m unsure if he’s just a bit too small at the minute? Do you know how much your LO weighs?he likes the cheap bouncer I had with my DS1 though 🤣 I’d be annoyed if I brought it from new with the price tag!
