@BertieBotts @afictionado @Magik01 Thank you ladies Flowers

Leo got checked over by the paediatricians and everything was fine apart from his body temp which dropped to 34.4C. We stayed on observation for about 5 hours, I had him wrapped up warm and cuddled up to me and his temp went back up to 36.4C. He was also tired and sleepy but eventually went back to his normal happy, active self around 9pm. All his other obs were fine throughout. So we don't actually know what happened, the doctors agreed it was the right call to bring him in. They said sometimes a quiet day is normal for babies, but sometimes it's a start of something more sinister and to always come in and get them checked over. We were asked to watch him closely, check his body temp, and particularly watch out for any coughs/sniffles/signs of cold or unusual nappies/lack of poop or urine. The doctors think he may have been fighting off a virus and of course if other symptoms appear we'll have to bring him back.

I didn't know that but was advised yesterday low body temp is a classic sign of fighting off a virus in newborns and a usual one for covid. Having said that, both DH and I had slightly dodgy tummies recently and the doctors said tummy bugs and norovirus are rife now. So who knows.

We took shifts and stayed up watching him all night. He's absolutely fine, thankfully 💙🙏

I was terrified but kept my cool throughout. I feel like crashing now though after all this adrenaline, it's the worst feeling ever when you know something isn't right, but a tiny baby can't tell you what it is xx

@PurplePansy05 glad little Leo is okay! I didn’t know a low temperature means they may be fighting an infection either, always assumed it was a high temp that did that?!

You 100% did the right thing taking him in to get checked out, hope he remains okay today and you can stop worrying and it was just one of those things. Smile

PurplePansy05 · 24/08/2021 09:02

Me too @Magik01 but apparently it's not necessarily the high temp in newborns. I was frantically reading NHS websites and the only things that came to mind were either low glucose (but his levels have been stabilised within few days after the birth, so this would have been odd) or hypothermia (but our house temp is around 20C so how?!). Turns out it could be a viral infection, who knew. There are NHS leaflets about covid that refer to it actually. I couldn't believe the number of children brought in with norovirus though, just hope we don't get it now, touch wood. I kept washing my hands lots. xx

Hello ladies!!!

I've been reading the posts here and there. Congratulations to all those lovely women who have had their gorgeous babies in the last 2 weeks.

Arya-Nyah is 2 weeks old today. It's been a journey. I was in hospital till she was 4 days old. Got home and DH and I have been doing night shifts as she hates her bassinet and her sleepyhead. She just wants to sleep on us all night. We did make some progress Sunday night but we are back to square 1 today.

She's a good baby overall. Very gentle and calm just a nocturnal one who loves daddy and mummy's lap/chest.

Had her final MW appointment on Sunday and she's back to her birth weight by day 12 so they were pleased with that since I'm exclusively BF. Currently pumping as I type. Definitely need sleep as I did the night sleep so will go get some after this session. My milk supply is good so am happy with it.

Newborn phase as someone did say earlier is crazy. On top of that my episiotomy stitches are not healing as well and I'm super anaemic so it's more exhausting than ever.

Still - my heart is so so so full and I cant believe how much I love her. We had a newborn photo shoot when she was 11 days old and it was so much fun. Although she was completely awake even after feeding which was not the plan.

Also grateful for you ladies. Your posts help answer any questions that I've had in the last 2 weeks! Thank you! We're all amazing mummas! Cheers to us ❤️👏🏽

afictionado · 24/08/2021 09:52

@PurplePansy05 So glad that he seems to be okay now, it's so stressful when you know there's something wrong but not what it is. Especially when they're still this small. ❤️

biscuitcat · 24/08/2021 11:43

@PurplePansy05 so glad Leo is OK - it must have been really scary, well done you for staying cool xxx

In case it's useful, there's an app called BabyCheck which might be handy (I can't remember if it was on one of these threads that someone else recommended it actually!) - it asks you questions about baby's symptoms and makes suggestions about whether to seek help/who to seek help from.

@Ready2020 it sounds like a really good idea to ask for some support - always better to ask sooner rather than later 💜

PurplePansy05 · 24/08/2021 11:49

@biscuitcat I got this app and also The Red Cross one is fab, tells you exactly what to do depending on what the emergency is, but between them they actually didn't cover our scenario. Typical, eh! Thank you Flowers He's now cuddled up to me and couldn't look happier ❤ xx Thank you @afictionado as well, glad to have my happy little boy back ❤ xx

Hi Ladies , haven't caught up yet but just wanted to pop on and say I gave birth at 4:27am this morning to a little girl Evelyn Rose after labour only starting at 10:26pm last night, was very quick and by the time I got to the MLU at 2am was already 7cm dilated. I actually got the birth I wanted and had a very positive experience 🥰🥰 can't believe she's finally here.

Due August 2021 - Welcome to the World!
sarah13xx · 24/08/2021 12:32

Also glad to hear from you @Whatshouldbemyusername sounds like you're doing a fab job! My DS is not back to birth weight yet and he's 3 weeks old so you've done very, very well in 12 days. I hope by next week we'll be back to it next week 😊

Time to update the list I think!

@lucyrp massive congrats! Looks like your sweep worked after all Smile glad you got the birth you wanted without induction. How heavy was she if you don’t mind me asking as I know that was a worry for you?

@biscuitcat thanks for the app recommendation I didn’t know something like that existed!

Daffodil21 · 24/08/2021 13:06

I think I've missed congratulating a few people - sorry! Many congratulations to all who's little ones have arrived.

Those who are left - hang on in there! Thanks

Jessicapebbles · 24/08/2021 13:22

Congratulations ladies! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying Mummy life. Ebony is just over 3 weeks old now - unfortunately she has really bad reflux so she’s on Gaviscon but it seems to be doing the trick! She’s now 7lb 6oz (born 6lb 2). I will attach a photo. Love to hear how everyone is doing? X

Due August 2021 - Welcome to the World!
lucyrp · 24/08/2021 13:53

She hasn't fed yet at all, tried getting her to latch in hospital but midwife seemed okay with her not latching yet as I've breastfed before and she knew what she was doing looking for it etc putting it in her mouth but she's been sleeping all day 🥺

Daffodil21 · 24/08/2021 13:54

@Jessicapebbles she is gorgeous - I love that onesie!

Jessicapebbles · 24/08/2021 14:07

Awww thank you @Daffodil21 it’s actually my friends children’s clothing business called “Lily Dennison Design”, please take a look if you fancy some organic clothing 🥰🥰

wimbler · 24/08/2021 14:11

Congratulations @lucyrp! She’s gorgeous.

@Jessicapebbles how did you get reflux diagnosed? Wondering if little man has it but not too sure when normal colicky/posseting actually becomes something to get checked out.

@PurplePansy05 what a scare but glad everything is ok. Low temp is also a sign of sepsis so you definitely did the right thing going in to get checked. Was he noticeably cold before you took his temperature?

Jessicapebbles · 24/08/2021 14:14

@wimbler So since birth she has been really uncomfortable after every feed. Lots of growling and grunting. Then we got to the point where she threw up an entire feed every time and the distance on it was insane!! So rang the docs who checked her over and after explaining it all he agreed it was reflux. So much better now we’re using gaviscon! Xx

Smurf123 · 24/08/2021 14:27

@Jessicapebbles was she sick after every feed? I've been wondering about reflux for a while for dd too but she isn't actually sick after feeds but the grunting, groaning, almost gagging type noises, hiccups, legs up etc but don't know whether it's just normal or not..
I've phoned the gp as she has some discharge from her belly button since the cord came off .. it's not a lot but a bit each day and it's been a couple of weeks since cord came off. Waiting on a call back.. she seems otherwise fine.
@PurplePansy05 really glad Leo is ok!
I had a nap in the car yesterday.. I'll be honest I really wanted to cancel and not go but actually I'm really glad we did, it was a lovely day spent outside by the sea and ds had such fun playing with our friends 2 girls. He went searching for hammerhead sharks and vampire squids in the sea (who can guess his favourite tv show ?)

wimbler · 24/08/2021 14:28

@Jessicapebbles thanks - ds is sick a lot but usually small amounts over the space of the day. Think it’s just gulping lots of air when feeding as his latch isn’t that great. Went to a breastfeeding clinic yesterday to get some help. Turned up and it was cancelled 🙄

Jessicapebbles · 24/08/2021 14:35

@Smurf123 Yeah she was sick after every feed, it was heartbreaking. She was constantly hungry because she kept throwing it back it was so difficult. Sometimes it was projectile and sometimes not all of it would come back. But the grunting and groaning was awful along with tummy ache etc. Let’s just say since we’ve started gaviscon she has not grunted once and is so content after feeds!

@wimbler that is so so frustrating for you!!

Daffodil21 · 24/08/2021 15:03

Wow some lovely things on there @Jessicapebbles and really good prices. I might have to treat myself. I mean, treat Elliot 😀

Jessicapebbles · 24/08/2021 15:25

@Daffodil21 They’re gorgeous aren’t they! X
