Hola

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
claraquitemassivenow · 10/12/2007 12:06

Thanks Cazzy - you sound very laid back about being overdue, good for you. I hope it's soon for you (if that's when you want it!) and it all goes nice and smoothly. After today I will be off the computer until later in the week so looking forward to coming back to lots of exciting birth announcements. And hopefully by then we'll have the postnatal board going so can whinge about breastfeeding and sleepless nights....

skidaddle · 10/12/2007 12:07

claraq - don't think it is silly or irrational - of course it matters to you how your baby gets here - and just like bf it can be an incredibly emotional issue. Will your DH be around for the next 6 weeks so you can recover properly? anyway still a few hours to go, you never know...

do you think your dad is just over the novelty of having grandchildren or is there something else? There is certainly a fine line between being too interested and not interested enough - somehow my dad manages to do both - i.e. annoying regular phone calls asking if I've had the baby yet coupled with strange prioritisation of Quaker meetings over birth of new grandchild!!! Sounds like you mum is interested at least though?

skidaddle · 10/12/2007 12:14

lol housemum and loucee - will cross my legs and start reciting the calendar to my bump from today! I'm actually not annoyed at all with my dad - he is just a strange old eccentric. They both have to stay or go (3 hour drive) really so will just have to hope he doesn;t come on Sunday...

loucee - leg wax - wow the mws will be v. impressed!!

housemum - sounds very complicated - maybe you should start reading convenient times to your bump as well!

claraquitemassivenow · 10/12/2007 12:27

Skid - yes my DH should be around a fair amount in the next 6 weeks or so, bar a few courses he has to go on. Tbh though it didn't take me that long to recover last time (I think I was driving within about 3 weeks) and most people say you recover quicker the 2nd time. Of course I didn't have another child to look after that time....

I think my dad can only concentrate on one thing at a time, which is why he wasn't thinking about the baby. And I guess the 7th (and probably last!) grandchild is never going to be as exciting as the first.

My mum's still well into it though - I think most women of her age adore newborns!

Loucee - ouch at leg wax, I thought I was doing well to shave my legs the other day (without falling over in the shower). But I am going to wash my hair tonight and tidy myself up a bit to look as good as poss for the first pics!

SAmbiClaus · 10/12/2007 13:08

Claraq good luck for you, hope it all goes well. Just think, no conehead baby, is that a bit shallow?

SAmbiClaus · 10/12/2007 13:13

I've managed to add another couple of weeks to my due date by looking at a calendar with my true dates, (long cycles), which means I'm not even 40 weeks now! Oh well, that's not what the medical peeps work to and have my consultant appt on thurs to discuss induction, although DH seems to think I'll not make it that far. I've made a bet with him that if we do go to that appt, he deals with all the dirty nappies in the first week. Trying to make light of my impatience.

Amani · 10/12/2007 13:13

Morning ladies
Hugs to all you who aren't feeling well and lack of sleep.

I must say after this awful weekend of horrible B-H contractions, pain at the bottom of my bump, I actually feel quite good today - not even a twinge plus I had a good night sleep, which is becoming more of a novelty. I must say I would much rather be in labour and having this baby though.

Took DD to parent and toddler classes today and how I miss being able to 'fold' in the middle and do some of the activities, oh well, fingers crossed for baby arriving ASAP.

Loucee - ouch to leg wax - was thinking of doing the same then at least I will have nice silky legs when giving birth!

Skid - your dad priotitising Quaker meetings to you giving birth? what's that all about??

Bouncingturtle · 10/12/2007 13:32

I remember my friend telling me that when she went into labour, she:

  1. Had a bath
  2. Shaved her armpits
  3. Waxed her legs
  4. Washed and styled her hair
  5. Plucked her eyebrows! All while she was having contractions She'd done her bikini line the week before...
BunnyBaby · 10/12/2007 13:52

Hi guys, still here. Not too worried as midwife here today, and said all mild regular contractions a good sign, and as I am a healthy 41 weeker - just what she'd expect from a first timer.

She is a bit annoyed at hospital revising due date at 20 week scan. LMP date would have been 3rd Dec, and they revised forwards to 28th Nov.

My midwife is an independent and the hospital involved induced another of her clients as they scan dated her a month forwards, and when she was induced at '42 weeks' she gave birth to a perfect 38 week old baby. This caused the mother a massive amount of stress when faced with induction because hospital got dates wrong .

Lovely midwife is ringing hospital today to let them know I'm not going in for monitoring until friday If I'm still pregnant by then .

Wizzska · 10/12/2007 14:46

Hello everyone. How are you all coping with your waiting games?

The post natal thread I found for December seems awfully quiet so I'm still lurking here. Perhaps everyone is a little preoccupied with their babies.

Little Rory is sleeping now so I've got a little time to myself. Am recovering from the section quite well but my hormones are everywhere. Yesterday I couldn't stop crying and felt I'd never cope. Today I feel a little more normal, but my nipples are killing me.

cazzybabs · 10/12/2007 14:51

They are all sleeping Wizzka!!! I remember the painful nipples - Iused nipple shields! Hope you are enjoying it and getting some sleep.

fifisworld · 10/12/2007 14:55

Hello everyone

Wizzska - I'll be over to join you at the weekend on the post-ntal thread, having my cs on Thursday , although i'll probably still lurk on here too for news of everyones babies.
Glad to hear your feeling better today though.

Ive just washed all of ds's bedding ready for him staying with my dad and then my mil while im in hospital. Im going to pack his bag later then he's all done.
Im trying to find things to do to keep myself occupied for the next couple of days but im running out of things to do.

Clara - good luck for tomorrow

Wizzska · 10/12/2007 15:08

Good luck Fifi and Clara.

Cazzy, all the midwives draw a sharp intake of breath when I ask about nipple shields. They say just use the ointment. Are they just being hippy dippy idealistic breastfeeding purists? I get the feeling they all seem to have a bit of an agenda.

insywinsyspider · 10/12/2007 15:11

wizzka - hope the hormones settle down, its a crazy time for them and have you tried the nipple cream for sore nipples? and lots of fresh air

clara - good luck for tomorrow, can't believe that you'll have your baby tomorrow must be quite surreal to know that - what time are you booked in for?

skiddale - off to try bath bomb now, may as well seeing as just got it, should be having a nap but baby has decided not to move much today and getting a bit worried, seen midwife and she's advised going to hosp later for monitoring if I don't get 10 movements, only had 5 so far and a strong cup of coffee... nothing... not even a wriggle - she found a good strong heartbeat tho so feeling much more reassured

I've finished all the xmas shopping now, still no tree but think I'll persuade dh to do that tonight - my mum is in a panic because I'm taking ds to see dh's family who live hour away on wed to exchange pressies and she's absolutly convinced I'll have baby on the hard shoulder of the M40 I'm 39 wks tomorrow and this was the day I went into labour with ds but who says it'll be the same?!? not happy about becoming trapped at home for the next 3 wks 'just in case' it'll make xmas v boring

insywinsyspider · 10/12/2007 15:15

wizzka - I know a friend used nipple shields and her dd got v used to them and she wouldn't feed without them - something about nipple confusion I think - BUT it did mean she could bf so it depends on how you feel, if you can bear it without keep trying and use the cream but if it gets too much they could be worth trying... I think with everything baby related go with what you feel is best for you and baby x

Wizzska · 10/12/2007 15:42

I guess I'll just wait for my nips to harden off into cowhide. Please roll on the day that that happens. Thanks insy for the advice.

Bouncingturtle · 10/12/2007 15:59

Hey Wizzka - sorry to hear about the sore nipples!
Going to have a nap soon, been out to Asda to do some shopping, and am knackered now!
Bought some really cheap Smart price bath sheets for my hospital bag, ok they are white but at 2.50 each if I throw them I'm not too bothered!

mellymooks · 10/12/2007 16:06

Hello Everyone!

Good luck for tomorrow Clara!!

Just done another big walk up and down hills in the hope things might start, baby now very active and feels ridiculously low down in my pelvis but I'm not getting any twinges.

I really don't know what to do if nothing has happened by Wed. still very unsure that I want a sweep but also so want something to happen....

Hey ho, feel a lot happier than I did this morning just for getting out in the fresh air, walking and seeing friends. It's far too easy to let myself procrastinate and let my mind spiral off while crap daytime telly goes on in the background!

Hope everyone doing ok, have we heard anything from Mememummy?

loucee · 10/12/2007 16:25

Wizz - I used nipple shields for a few feeds one day when I was in so much pain from feeding DD that I was ready to give up. It had no ill effects on DD's latch or my supply so if you need to use them temporarily I would! Does your nipple look like a brand new lipstick shape when your son has been feeding? Could be his latch making you sore.

Bouncing - Asda is enough to make anyone need a nap! Their stores are huge and I always find myself wanding up all the aisles to make sure I've got everything I need.

Think I've got that carpel syndrom as well (sorry can't remember who mentioned it), on my right had my fingers feel like they have constant pins and needles.

Insy - could be any day for you then if you went at 39wks before. You said the baby has been quiet as well, don't they say that's how they are as they are preparing to come out?

Clara - good luck, hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow and look forward to your birth story/announcement

Amani · 10/12/2007 16:39

Good luck clara!

cazzybabs · 10/12/2007 16:55

I think they get worried that you will not be able to feed without the shields...but I found them a lifesaver with regards to dd1 - god it was so painful! Better to breastfeed with them then feed without them...I think I used them for the 1st few weeks and then my nipples became hardened!

God I am so tired today...cycling to pick up the dds nearly finished me off today! Anyway poor children I am now back in bed resting with choas descending all around me!

Fifi - good luck for Thursday!

HoHoHousemum · 10/12/2007 17:39

Bouncing - good idea on the cheap towels! I was putting a flannel into my bag and DH kindly pointed out that it had a hole in - I replied that I knew, I just figured it would be good enough for sponging down afterwards then I'd chuck it! Likewise the skanky old towel that I use for when I'm dying my hair will go in the hosp bag just in case, though I think I used hospital towels last time (our hosp scores pretty well on cleanliness)!

Amani · 10/12/2007 18:06

Can I just ask - how do you know if your waters are leaking as opposed to havng a discharge?

Was reading about the signs of labour and read that waters can trickle slowly aswell as come quickly out - did anyone else know that??

Bouncingturtle · 10/12/2007 18:20

yes I bought some chap flannels too - only 20p each!
Now have quite a collection of baby towels, I bought some and a few people have bought me some also, so the ones that I've bought, which were cheapies from Tesco, are coming with me to the hospital and the nice ones that other have bought are staying at home.

Bouncingturtle · 10/12/2007 18:21

Amani - yes i think i heard that in my AN class, doesn't always gush!
