Hola

Meme - have you got any massage oil? You can try putting a few drops in to some massage oil and massage your back, or ask your Dh to if he is around.
You could also have a warm bath and put a few drops in the bath - the water will help ease the pain of the contractions as well.
Just hang in there, you are doing great!

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 13:00

Have your waters broken? If they haven't have a lovely long soak with 6 drops of clary sage in the bath and take the oil burner in there with you. Remember to swirl the water around loads so the oil disperses well.
Eat pineapple, drink raspberry leaf tea, bounce on ball or rock on all fours/keep active.
Watch a film that really makes you laugh.

Anyone else got any other suggestions?!

Just be lovely to yourself

mememummy · 05/12/2007 13:03

sounds good, n no i waters are intact, sometold me to put milk in the bath with the oil?

mememummy · 05/12/2007 13:04

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 13:04

By the way you're not useless!!!! You're doing the most amazing thing on the planet, you've decided to have a baby, you've spent the last nine months focussing on and growing your baby and now you're going to give birth to and meet your baby!!! That my honey is AMAZING and you should be so proud of yourself. xxxxxxx

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 13:06

Don't know why you would need to put milk in the bath, not come across that before!
Yes hand massage would be good, anything that helps you relax and focus.

mememummy · 05/12/2007 13:07

im going all watery eyed now i really dont no what i would do wiv out u all u've been such a massive support

mememummy · 05/12/2007 13:09

k will try the massage i too was unsure about the milk i vagly remember her saying that it will help to dispurse the oil

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 13:11

As long as you swirl water loads before you get in it will be fine xxxxxx
Now go and relax and pamper yourself, remember to keep your fluids up - drink plenty of water.

lots hugs xxxxxxxxxx

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 13:56

Hi Sarah, it's my first too so don't really have much advice just support, i can just echo everything i said to meme, you'll be fine, what you're doing is amazing and trust your instincts!!

FurryFox · 05/12/2007 14:03

meme & Sarah I really hope this is it for you, good luck

Oohhh it's so exciting!

SarahPT · 05/12/2007 14:24

Thanks guys!
If they ARE contractions then according to the contraction timer thing they are about 10 minutes apart so think I've got a while to go yet
But no other signs at all
Am off to put my feet up and watch trashy TV and see what happens
x

Bouncingturtle · 05/12/2007 15:05

Go Sarah and Meme
I'm a first timer too... just going on what others tell me!

FurryFox · 05/12/2007 15:12

I'm a second timer and I think I've forgotton everything and it wasn't even two and a half years ago since I last did it! In fact, I think I'm more nervous this time than I was first time because I know a little more of what to expect

claireybraxtonhicks · 05/12/2007 15:19

Congrats RG!
Good luck Meme and Sarah and anyone else.

Was feeling bit funny all day yesterday which put down to lack of sleep then got that heavy pre period feeling followed by period pains followed by contractions in evening. Took some paracetamol and went to bed to try and sleep, eventually did and when I woke up for a wee at midnight the contractions had stopped. Was very wierd having mild contractions as never had that with dd-with her it was nothing(never had any BH either), oh waters have gone, ow contractions less than 5 mins apart. Have never had the wondering "is this it?" before and I have to say it is very frustrating!

Had what should be my last consultant appointment today. Saw the head consultant rather than my usual one due to my scan result on Friday. He was quite stern and scary to begin with but actually ok! He at first wanted to induce me due to slow growth but sent me for a CTG trace (dd was a little angel and just sat quietly next to me on the bed for the full 20 mins-was very proud of her!) and HB was strong and lots of movements so all ok and he is happy to leave me for another week. I have another CTG on Saturday and scan and consultant appointment next weds (40+2)but he thinks if I havent gone by then they'll almost certainly induce me as think baby will do much better when out and on milk-they think there is a high risk of the placenta failing if I go anymore overdue than that.

DH is away tonight at a conference so I don't want baby tonight but please send me labour vibes between tomorrow and tuesday so I don't have to be induced!

RGPargy · 05/12/2007 15:30

Hi everyone! Sorry, have done some cutting and pasting coz i'm still spun out by the whole thing hehe.

Wow, what an amazing experience!!

I'm still reeling from it all so dont have much to say at the moment (that's a first!), but will post up my birth story a little later.

Ellie is beautiful and we are so very proud of her! Her pic is on my profile.

She's not feeding very well at the moment tho. She latches on fine, has 2 or 3 sucks and then comes off and that's that. Is this normal? The MW told me to "cap feed" her, i.e. put some dreaded formula in the cap of a bottle and tip a little into her mouth just so that she gets something inside her. Has anyone else had to do this?

mellymooks · 05/12/2007 15:40

Oh RG she's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not sure about the formula thing, if you get a chance you might want to scan Jarm's thread about bf - really good lots of tips, perserverance seems to be key, i'll send link in a min.
Congrats to you and MR RG!!!
Enjoy every moment she'll only stay tiny for a blink of an eye. xxxxxxxxx

Jarm's bf thread. xxxxx

claireybraxtonhicks · 05/12/2007 15:55

RG she is gorgeous!
I'm no bf expert but I would say it is still v early to be worrying about just getting something into her-your milk won't have come in yet so all she'll be getting is colostrum anyway.
I would say that cap feeding her at this stage could lead to bf not working out-if she has a full tummy she is less likely to feel the need to suck, will then latch on even less, and you will end up making less milk. IMO the best thing to do is spend some skin to skin time with her, encourage her to latch on frequently and get her sucking as much as possible. There are plenty of other people more qualified than me who can give you advice but that's my take on it...

mememummy · 05/12/2007 16:01

every thins stopped!!! rg your daughter is absolutly gorg,

claraquitemassivenow · 05/12/2007 16:07

RG congrats on your beautiful little girl. Am v but hopefully my time will come soon (m/w had a rummage this afternoon but could not reach my cervix to do a sweep; however she could feel the baby's head and everything seems to be in place so fingers crossed....).

I agree with what Claireyb has said, although I am also not an expert - it is a little early at the moment to worry that the baby is not getting enough milk. They often hardly feed at all at the beginning. Also, if you do "cap feed", rather than putting formula in the cap can't you express a little colustrum and give her that? B/f is very hard work at the beginning but there are loads of people on MN who will be able to give you some excellent advice. I am sure JARM'S thread will be a good starting point.

Good luck, and good luck to all you others who might or might not be in labour....

macdoodle · 05/12/2007 16:49

meme lovely don't worry about wrong or right just do exactly what you want in labour....
I was horrific in labour....I am normally very very calm restrained in control person...and I totally lost it...clamped my legs shut and told midwife if she wanted to F..in push then she should do it herself as I wasn't until anaesthetist came to top up my epidural whilst screaming at the top of my lungs...H was shocked he HAS never seen me lose control like that....
Other second timers (and more) am shitting myself now as it is all flooding back...terrified

Ambi · 05/12/2007 16:52

RG, what a gorgeous little Ellie.

Shells · 05/12/2007 16:54

Wonderful news RG. Have to agree with Clara and Clairey. Skip the formula. She will be fine. If she needs cap feeding then use your own milk. It will interfere with your supply if you don't and its much better for her anyway. Hope she's slowly getting there.
