@Magik01 wow that's ages!!!!! I've been told I'll be in 2-3ish but fast from 5am and I'm allowed to drink water and tea without milk up until surgery (a few other things were allowed like squash but I don't drink those anyway). They said they used to say no fluids but realised women recovered better if they were hydrated. Odd how it varies from place to place. You must have felt so shit after so long without anything!! Glad it's al over for you now and you have your boy 💙

@BertieBotts have just reminded myself of the numbers above 50 so think I’ll do it (in my head) 😂 good tip!

@Magik01 that’s good, everyone seems to say the same so I’m sure I can manage it! I will just need to keep asking then. I don’t know how accurate the scans are likely to be but I don’t feel like he can be over 8lb. I would be very surprised if I’m carrying around an 8lb baby when I feel totally fine 🙈 I have three of the smaller ones in I think so will leave a pile of them out. My partner will go home for dinner I think then come back in at night so he can swap things over then! I think it’s all the people in the room that are going to scare me and the fact you walk in with nothing wrong with you. Somehow getting wheeled in would feel better 😂 I listened to the mindful birth group’s c-section hypnobirthing stuff last night and one of them was all positive affirmations and stuff which usually wouldn’t help me but actually it was good and helped me block out any of the bad thoughts! I think the sickness thing is related to low blood pressure and mine is low normally anyway, even since being pregnant so I might even mention it before I lie down as I’m pretty sure it will happen to me 🙈

@Magik01 congratulations on your baby boy! Isaac is such a beautiful name! Glad you and little one are well. This is exciting c

congratulations @Mummywantsaweewee @Magik01
@Ready2020 omg she’s so gorgeous. Congratulations to you too
@PurplePansy05 brilliant news, hope he settles in well at home x

PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 11:41

Thank you ladies! ❤

@Magik01 Huge congratulations on the birth of your lovely boy Isaac, well done, lovely 💙 Glad it went well and you're both feeling ok! xx

Your murder story made me laugh, I got up after the C-section to have a shower and forgot I still didn't have any pants on and omg it was like floodgates of hell have opened straight onto the hospital floor 🙈 I called the midwife and was very apologetic for the mess, but obviously they've seen it all before 🤣

I had the same situation as you, was going to go in first because of my GD and didn't eat from midnight the night before, well technically from 10pm. I ended up going in at 2pm because of 2 EMCSs one of which was rather bad from what I heard from the mum who had it, bless her. I was at the point of starved to death by then. When the anaesthetic went in my bp has plummeted and I was nearly sick straight away but had a wonderful anaesthetist who pumped me up straight away and I felt absolutely fine. I needed 6 or 7 top ups of whatever they give you in total, but I was with it all the time and she was talking me through every step of what she and the rest of the team were doing. That was amazingly reassuring as it feels a bit worrying when you can't feel your body from chest down pretty much at all. I will be sending a big thank you card and chocolates to my hospital team and in particular to my anaesthetist and the delivery team who went above and beyond.

@sarah13xx You're not necessarily wheeled in for the section. DH and I casually walked in, we had a good chat and a laugh with the whole team, everyone's introduced themselves by their name so it felt very personal. You will likely meet your anaesthetist and obstetric surgeons before the surgery too, I did and it was super helpful. I loved the whole experience.

I second everything @Magik01 has said about the painkillers, just take them as recommended even if you're not in pain. I didn't and thought I felt great but when the pain hits me it's quite sudden and a bit different to normal, it's it not really painas such, but a weak/dizzy wave. So prevent that if you can, just take your paracetamol and diclofenac and don't think you're a superhero straight away xx

WinterBabyof89 · 07/08/2021 12:07

@Magik01 congratulations! Lovely name :)
My LO was the same weight and is in first size. I love a good fit on a baby grow otherwise they’re all arms and legs flapping around ha

@Ready2020 gorgeous baby! Congratulations!

WinterBabyof89 · 07/08/2021 12:10

@PurplePansy05 yay to going home!

Floodgates of hell haha that made me laugh. My bedsheets were atrocious even with the puppy pads ha

BertieBotts · 07/08/2021 12:33

I remember having a shower after I had my first baby. (This is very TMI) They had given me some kind of suppository for pain relief but it had some weird side effect of diahrroea Blush I was so weak I couldn't actually stand in the shower because the water was too overwhelmingly loud, so I just crouched down and there was this river of blood and poo going down the drain. It was a bit too much so I just pulled the emergency cord as I felt like I was going to pass out! They did not make me wash any more and let me get back into a clean bed :o

Daffodil21 · 07/08/2021 12:46

Thank you all for sharing your post birth grimness 😂 I like to be prepared so it's good to know what to expect!!!! I'm sure they've all seen it before on the wards though!

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 13:09

@BertieBotts They still give them suppositories Grin I didn't go to the toilet between Tues and yesterday and suddenly had 7 shits yesterday Grin🙈 Sorry for poo TMI all! xx

Daffodil21 · 07/08/2021 13:18

Is diarrhoea a common side effect of the suppositories..?

OP posts:
sarah13xx · 07/08/2021 13:24

@PurplePansy05 did you get any kind of stool softener or was it just the suppositories that did it? Have heard you don’t go for a while after and the first time can be an experience 🙈

PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 13:29

No. I had Lactulose ready in my hospital bag, but it turns out I didn't need it. Had a fair bit of trapped wind, but not painful and then just went...and again....and again 🙈 Must be the suppositories. I swear I don't even look like I was recently pregnant after my shitstorm yesterday 🤣🤣🤣 xx

WinterBabyof89 · 07/08/2021 13:34

@Daffodil21 it might be a side effect but not sure how common it is (could be) - I’m the same as @PurplePansy05 as I went yesterday for the first time since Tuesday but it was in tact ha!

Isn’t childbirth glorious ha

A midwife was supposed to come for the 3 day weighing yesterday but I got missed off the list so they’re sending somebody today. Baby has a tinge of jaundice so just want to know if it’s within a normal range.

Hope the pregnant ladies are feeling okay. I barely slept those last few days with being so uncomfortable so hoping your pregnancy days are numbered!

BertieBotts · 07/08/2021 14:27

I have absolutely no idea! I think it was Voltarol they gave me, this was 13 years ago though.

sarah13xx · 07/08/2021 14:54

@PurplePansy05 can only be a good thing now though surely 😂

sarah13xx · 07/08/2021 14:57

Had my pre-op appointment at the hospital yet still can’t accept I’m going there to have an actual baby on Monday 😂 someone was meeting their partner at the door to transfer baby into the car seat to go home and I just thought how crazy that will be me in a few days! Covid test and blood test done.

Bought a load of healthy-ish ready meals so my husband can make them for me next week. Got a nice dinner for tonight and will have my last glass of non-alcoholic wine 🍷 can’t believe it’s coming to an end and I’m going to meet my baby soon!

PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 15:57

So excited for you ladies awaiting your little bundles of joy next week 🥰🥰🥰

I sympathise with those of you still having to wait longer. I felt rubbish in the final few weeks and remember thinking I wish I had the energy to do the things you were doing at the time. The very end is really hard but you will get through it and it will all be worth it in the end xx

HopefulB · 07/08/2021 16:31

Wow, lots happening!

Congratulations to all those with new arrivals! 🎉 Keep the cute pics coming to remind the rest of us it will all be worthwhile.

Great news @PurplePansy05 that you & Leo can head home. Seems like you had a good experience, even if it wasn’t what you’d perhaps initially expected/hoped for?

I’m well and truly fed up now, really hope madam puts in an appearance closer to 38weeks than 40. Still got very limited ankle stability, had to cut my walking right down since 28weeks (fortunately no more falls!), today I did 2 miles and my glutes are feeling it, usually I wouldn’t blink at running double that 😂 The bike is getting harder, but actually ok - I’m just too paranoid to cycle on the roads in fear of someone not paying attention. Stopped swimming as Last time I went to the pool I felt my Intercostal muscles straining as I turned to breathe, then they went again, picking a bay leaf!! Lying down/getting up is so much effort that I’ve been delaying going to bed, but then I wake every morning at 5am with cramps in my calves! So much for glowing and enjoying how your body changes - turns out that’s
about 8 weeks out of 40!

WolfMother326 · 07/08/2021 17:06

Congratulations to everyone on their new babies - so gorgeous to see!

I'm curious - has anyone been told that they can register the birth with their hospital before leaving, or had experience doing this in the past? I this some hospitals offer this (or used to).

PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 17:09

@HopefulB Absolutely, a very good experience and thanks to this I feel ready to get on with things at home.

Btw, if you have any BF concerns ladies, please, please, please ask to speak to the specialists BF team before you're discharged or at least for it to be arranged swiftly in the community if not possible. I had a wonderful meeting with a specialist consultant BF midwife before we were discharged and it's made such a difference to how I'm feeling. Being positive about it will make a big difference I hope. xx

PurplePansy05 · 07/08/2021 17:12

@WolfMother326 My hospital doesn't offer it, I asked. I was explained what to do and the details are in my postnatal notes. Word of advice, I went to book our appointment online today and in my area there are no appointments for over a month, so if you want to get it done quickly please get your OH on the case or do book it yourselves quickly if you can. I suspect this is still the covid backlog 🙄 I think there's an option to claim child benefit without it but it's all confusing so we're waiting to register first xx

lucyrp · 07/08/2021 17:13

Had a bit of a giggle to myself that I completely forgot it's my birthday in 10 days because I've been so concentrated on my due date which is the day before my birthday. It was only when someone asked me yesterday about it I was like oh yeah my birthday 🤣🤣

WolfMother326 · 07/08/2021 17:53

Thanks @PurplePansy05 - annoying that you have to wait so long!

Aaaaa1519 · 07/08/2021 18:39

@lucyrp oh your birthdays only 3 days before mine funnily enough I couldn’t care less this year just want the baby out 😂
Let’s hope we both have our babies soon as early bday presents
